Sprint offering Black Friday deals that bundle LG TVs, Amazon Prime, and cheap Samsung phones

sprint_logo_wall_signSprint is preparing some great Black Friday deals for new and existing customers, and you’ll get more than just a smartphone with what the carrier is planning.

If you’re interested in a new phone, they’re cutting the price of the Galaxy S6 in half on a leasing plan. This offer is good for new and existing customers, and will knock the monthly price down to $9. That’s the only Samsung Galaxy phone with a cash discount, but if you activate any of Samsung’s 2015 flagship devices on Sprint, you’ll score a free year of Amazon Prime. That includes the GS6, GS6 Edge, GS6 Edge+, and Note 5.

If Samsung isn’t your thing, Sprint will bundle in a free 24-inch TV with the purchase of a new LG G4. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a phone/TV bundle like this before, but it sounds like a pretty great deal for anyone that’s going to buy a G4 anyway. This offer is also available to new and existing customers.

Outside of the phones, Sprint is marking down Fitbits and LG Tone Pro headset with varying discounts. Those are good for any phone on any network, obviously, and make great stocking stuffers.

LG Urbane 2nd Edition smartwatch pulled off shelves due to screen issues

The LG Urbane 2nd Edition smartwatch gained fame because it was the first Android Wear device to arrive with LTE connectivity. Prior to the second generation Urbane, all Android Wear devices required a Bluetooth connection to a smartphone or WiFi to fully utilize the features. It was the first Android Wear device that could make calls and send texts directly from the watch independant of a smartphone.

IMG_20151114_125918

And then LG gained notoriety for that same LTE watch just a week later. The LG Urbane 2nd Edition smartwatch was available in AT&T stores, online to both AT&T and Verizon customers, and then LG abruptly pulled the watch off the shelves and quietly cancelled any new sales. Customers who purchased the available watches were left dumbfounded as to what the reason could be. Most of those customers only had good things to say about the LG Urbane 2nd Edition, including me. I thought it was the best Android Wear watch of 2015 and boy was I WRONG.

LG finally notified The Telegraph of the reason:

“For competitive and supplier relations reasons we are not in a position to communicate the specifics of the issue that led to this decision. However, what we can share is that the hardware issue was related to a new advanced component that we had incorporated in the device that had never been used in an LG wearable device before,” the company said. “During aggressive testing over thousands of hours under severe conditions, it was revealed that this component failed to meet LG’s quality standards and could potentially impact our image quality over the life of the device.”

Apparently the cancellation was due to the faulty nature of new components in the display. Hopefully that means if the device isn’t used under “severe conditions” that the display should hold up over time with normal usage.

Due to the abrupt nature of the cancellation, I am sure LG is still figuring out what to do for those devices that have already been sold. Some owners of the Urbane 2nd Edition have taken to ebay where the device is selling for two to three times the original price of $299. As of right now, LG has yet to recall or offer a clear path on what to do with the watch, so keep your eyes peeled if you own one. I seriously hope LG fixes the issue and releases this watch again – it really is one of the best Android Wear devices to be released in 2015, outside of the hardware issue.

LG Watch Urbane LTE gets pulled globally, refunds underway

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

The LG Watch Urbane 2nd edition was a huge roll-out device for LG. I believe it was bundled in with a price cut for AT&T customers who purchased the LG V10, but I might be wrong. The latest watch from LG was to bring in LTE support with a separate SIM card that gives you connection for notifications, directions, calls and more without needing your phone with you too. Now customers are being notified that a ‘quality issue’ has put a stop to the devices roll-out and refunds for those that already purchased one are starting to be issued.

LG has acknowledged the issue, but aren’t stepping up to say what it is exactly. According to sources though, the quality issue directly relates to the watches day-to-day use of the watch. LG is now cancelling the rolling out of the 2nd gen watch on a global scale. From the sounds of it, they aren’t sure if they will even resume roll-outs or shipments of the watch at all in the future. Read a blurb from LG that was sent over to AndroidPolice yesterday.

We understand that you are currently reviewing our latest smartwatch; however, late in the quality assurance process for the LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE, our engineers were made aware of a hardware issue which affects the day-to-day functionality of the device. After further investigation, the decision was made to cancel the rollout of the Urbane 2nd Edition LTE due to the complicated nature of the issue.

Whether the device will be available in the future will be decided at a later time. For now, our top priority is to ensure that only products that meet our very specific quality standards are available for purchase.

Those of you that got the watch are now in an interesting elitist group of users. Any of you guys out there experiencing any major issues that might be of concern?

Nexus 5x now available through Amazon and B&H

nexus 5x first look aa (21 of 28)
While the Nexus 5x has been available in the United States for over a month now through the Google Store, those who prefer to buy from other retailers now have two new options in Amazon and B&H.

Both retailers carry the three different color variants – mint, black, white – and have 16 and 32GB storage variants priced at $379 and $429 respectively, with free shipping options included. B&H does offer a small freebie however, with the inclusion of a free tempered glass screen protector that is said to be valued at $20.

For those that haven’t already bitten the bullet, you may be wondering if the Nexus 5x is buying? We recommend checking out our full Nexus 5X review to help you better answer that question. We can tell you that, while the Nexus 5x is certainly an impressive handset, the Android market is more competitive than ever right now. For those looking to spend under $400, there are tons of good options, many of which have at least somewhat better specs as well. That said, if you have your heart set on a Nexus and want something a bit smaller screened than the Nexus 6p or the older (but now much cheaper) Nexus 6, you really can’t go wrong here.

Nexus 5X users reporting issues with touch response during charging

LG Nexus 5X Unboxing-28

Having issues with the touch responsivity of your Nexus 5X while charging it? You’re not alone. Many users on various forums are reporting similar problems.

According to Nexus 5X user Simon Mellins, who posted about the issue on Reddit and Google’s Nexus product support forums, the problem appears when charging the phone with the charger that ships in the box. This 3A/5V/15W charger uses the USB 3.1 Type C standard for fast charging (not to be confused with Qualcomm’s Quick Charging tech).

When charging, users report decreased touchscreen responsivity, which is especially visible when typing. The touchscreen effectively lags, which can really ruin the experience of using the device. It may sound like a small issue, as users can just unplug the device for the time they need to use it. But it appears to be a real issue, nevertheless.

Reportedly, using other wall chargers (with a USB Type C to Type A cable) has no negative effects on the touchscreens. There’s some speculation that the issue is due to insufficient shielding that causes electromagnetic interference in the touchscreen.

Dozens of users on XDA-Developers, Reddit, and Google forums are confirming the problems. A survey on XDA shows that 27 users report having the issue, compared to 22 who said they encountered no problems.

At least one user is reporting a more serious issue, where the device becomes “completely unresponsive” when plugged in for charging and a few minutes after.

The problem may have already been fixed by Google and LG. There’s speculation that the devices manufactured in November (device serial number starting with 511) don’t have the issue.

We’ll keep you updated on this issue. Meanwhile, have you run into similar problems? Let us know.

LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE pulled from shelves due to hardware issues

LG Watch Urbane 2 2nd Edition Hands On -3

Only a week after its launch by AT&T, LG is stopping all sales of the Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE smartwatch. According to 9to5Google’s sources, AT&T has notified its retail stores that those who bought the second-edition watch are eligible for a refund due to the “quality issue.”

LG has given no date for the smartwatch’s return to the market

The reason for this halt in sales and soft recall is, according to LG, “a hardware issue which affects the day-to-day functionality of the device.” The news comes as disappointing to many Verizon subscribers, as the device was slated to launch in their stores tomorrow morning, November 20th. LG has given no date for the smartwatch’s return to the market, and it might even be gone for good.

The Watch Urbane 2nd Edition was the first Android Wear smartwatch to offer cellular capabilities. This was received with much enthusiasm by fans of Android Wear, as it made the device far less reliant on an accompanying cell phone. It seemed like Android Wearers were leaving the days of leaning so heavily on Bluetooth and wifi networks behind. Unfortunately, no other manufacturers seem to have plans in the works to bring a similar Wear device to the market in the near future, although Google insists that we can expect them down the road.

LG Watch Urbane 2 2nd Edition Hands On -4Don’t miss: LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition first look10

Although it’s sad to have the Watch Urbane 2nd Edition pulled away before we even really got to know it, this move is far better for LG and consumers alike, rather than having compromised hardware plague the device. If we’re lucky, LG will get to the root of this unspecified issue and we’ll see the Watch Urbane 2nd Edition rise from the ashes like a mighty phoenix. Only time will tell.

What are your thoughts? Are you a Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE owner? Have you noticed any suspicious issues with your device, and will you be taking it back to AT&T to take advantage of their trade-in? Let us know in the comments!

LG yanks its Watch Urbane 2nd Edition from stores

LG Electronics Inc. Chief Executive Officer For Mobile Communications Cho Jun Ho Presents New Smartphone

Did you have your eye on one of those new LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition from AT&T? Well tough. LG just yanked the smartwatch from store shelves citing “a hardware issue which affects the day-to-day functionality of the device.” The device was the first Android-based smartwatch to include a cellular connection. It had debuted on AT&T only a week ago and was supposed to come to Verizon tomorrow, November 20th. Nope, not any more.
