German designer Jil Sander launches Windows Phone 7.5 smartphone

We can’t think of technology much more stylish than the live tile interface of Windows Phone. No surprise then that uber minimal German designer Jil Sander has jumped on board the good ship Windows Phone 7.5 and launched a sleek little handset built by LG.

Sander is well known for her extremely simple and minimalist, almost Kraftwerk-like approach to fashion, not dissimilar really to the Windows Phone 7 UI.

She also has a signature blue stripe which she likes to slap on her designs, which is featured here in her Windows Phone handset.

The decision to include up-to-date specs like Mango and a decent 1GHz processor is unusual for “fashion phones”; previous companies like Prada have tended to go more for looks rather than cutting edge technology.

Windows Phone is nothing without a juicy sweet display for all that live tile excitement, which the Jil Sander phone appears to have. It boasts a 3.8-inch 800 x 480 display, which whilst not quite AMOLED or IPS is decent enough.

On the back is a 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash and is capable of shooting 720p video. In the box you get a rather swish looking pouch for the handset as well as a “premium wired headset” with blue earbuds.

There is a bundled Jil Sander app included with the phone that allows you to do things like shop and locate stores as well as browse clothing collections.

The Jil Sander LG handset will go on sale in Germany, Austria, Italy, France and the UK from 7 October

LG Optimus 3D review

Cilantro might be the most polarizing thing on this planet. Some people can’t eat a fish taco without it, others cry frothy tears of dishsoap at its mere mention. The same may well be true of the LG Optimus 3D (known as the Thrill 4G in the US). We already felt a little torn about the device when we first got our hands on it back in February. Sure, it packed some extra heft and, ahem, Android 2.2.2. But its stupor-inducing, 3D display (combined with some truly poignant marketing) was just enough to whet our appetites. Plus, after having already scarfed down a bowl of HTC’s EVO 3D, we were more than a little keen on tasting LG’s take on the glasses-free 3D recipe – a young and intriguing smartphone genre. Now that we finally have, we’re ready to tackle a question for the ages: dishsoap or delicacy?

LG Optimus 2X shows 1080p HD quality in video footage

There’s been a lot of talk about the LG Optimus 2X and the power it holds compared to other Android devices. We saw the LG Optimus 2X officially announced at CES 2011, then followed that up with a “Hands on” from our team at CES as well. The smartphone is really at the top of the list when it comes to specs. One of those specs is the ability to shoot 1080p HD video, which is something rare in the smartphone scene still.

Here we have a user submitted video showcasing the awesome recording capabilities of the LG Optimus 2X, and how the NVIDIA Tegra2 dual-core processor is a perfect match for it. Have a watch, but if you would really like to see it in full effect, we recommend you watch it at YouTube and switch the video mode to 1080p full screen

LG Optimus Black and LTE-equipped Revolution coming to CES

LG is busily preparing its CES presentation area right now, where the well known Optimus 2X is being joined by a pair of intriguing new devices, the Revolution you see above, an LTE-connected handset that seems destined to ride Verizon’s minty fresh 4G network, and an Optimus Black (pictured after the break). The latter handset promises the “power of light” housed within an “innovatively slim smartphone with the best display clarity.” Both the allusions to slimness — we’ve found specs listing it as a 9.2mm-thick device with a 4-inch screen — and display prowess match up to the LG “B” device we’ve seen leak out previously, which LG itself promised will be launching at CES. Other details include Wi-Fi Directcertification and the world’s first two megapixel front-facing camera. It’s gonna be a fun week, to be

LG Optimus 7 vs Samsung Omnia 7

As the mad rush that followed the highly anticipated launch of Windows Phone 7 has more or less died down, it’s now time to step back and and take a good look at the handsets to decide whether you want to invest in one or not. We’ve already seen the LG Optimus 7 pitched against HTC’s 7 Trophy, but how will it compare when it stands toe-to-toe with its main rival from Samsung? With its big, 4-inch AMOLED screen, the Omnia 7 has set itself apart from the pack. But, which is the better phone? We engaged the two handsets in a tense spec-off to see which came out best…

Form Factor

Winner: Omnia 122.4 x 64.2 x 10.99mm; 138.5g
Loser: Optimus 125 x 59.8 x 11.5mm; 157g

Size is an important factor to consider when you’re shopping for a smartphone, as it’s something that you’re going to be carrying around with you all day long. Although smartphones tend to be on the larger side in order to accommodate their luxuriously large screens, it’s still important that they’re small enough to slip into a pocket. At 122.4mm long, the Samsung is shorter than the more elongated LG handset, while it’s also considerably lighter and slightly slimmer too. On account of its compact dimensions, the Samsung storms into the lead on the first round. Read more »

LG's 4-inch Android phone with dual-core Tegra 2 and 1080p video coming in early 2011

Wow. LG did say it’d bring some heat to its Android Optimus line and here’s our first look at it, folks! An 8 megapixel camera-wearing, 1080p video-recording, dual-core superphone to appease all the spec fanatics out there. Aimed for release early next year, as the very first dual-core Android handset, this device will finally bring NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 into the smartphone realm. Our tipster tells us it’s codenamed Star internally, though that’s certain to change in the final product nomenclature. You might think that massive Google logo on the back would imply stock Android and you’d be right — we’re told it’ll be a nearly untouched representation of the Google OS, though it’s still not clear which version it’ll be. We’ve also spotted a front-facing camera on the front, while the innards include microSD memory expandability, microUSB connectivity, and a 1500mAh battery.

LG Optimus T and Optimus S review

It wasn’t long ago that buying a smartphone meant spending at least a Benjamin and committing to an expensive 2-year contract. But things are changing, and shopping for a smartphone on a budget is getting easier than ever, thanks in great part to a recent flood of reasonably-priced Android devices that are pouring into the market. We’ve already talked about the HTC Wildfire, Huawei Ascent, ZTE Racer and Blade/San Francisco, and the Motorola Citrus — not to mention the lovely Comet (and its international cousin, the Ideos) on T-Mobile. Enter the LG Optimus T ($30 post-rebate on T-Mobile) and Optimus S ($50 post-rebate on Sprint), two Android siblings that might prove once and for all that “affordable” doesn’t mean “cheap.” Let’s dig in. LG enV Pro pictures and specs

The LG enV Pro running Android has been sort of a mystery up to this point with zero pictures in the wild and just a rumored release date of November 11th on Verizon.  It’s rare that we see a device come this close to a launch date without a leak, but today we’ll gladly end its run.  As you can see from the shots below and the one above, the device has a pretty nice form factor including what appears to be an amazing keyboard.  Sporting dual screens, just as old enVs have, the device (according to the UG) will also come loaded with Swype, Bing, and the rest of the bloatware we’ve seen on non-DROID branded VZW Android phones. LG Optimus 7 Review

LG officially announced the LG Optimus 7 at the Microsoft Windows Phone 7 launch on Monday and Pocket-lint was there to grab a hands-on play with the new handset – just to see how it matched up against the competition from Samsung, HTC and Dell. In the UK the Optimus 7 is the only smartphone LG is currently offering and the new smartphone will be exclusively available on Vodafone. It is an all touchscreen affair with the QWERTY variant – the LG Quantum – destined for the US and elsewhere.

Dominating the overall design of the handset is the 3.8-inch, 800 x 480, capacitive touchscreen display that is both bright and crisp when viewed inside. Outside and, as our pictures show, you will start to suffer from that reflective screen – as you do for most phones. Most Windows Phone 7 handsets come with devices in this ball park (3.7 to 4.3 inches), but the AMOLED screen found on the new Samsung Omnia 7 wins out if this is important to you. Read more »
