LG Unveils New Chromebase Desktop
The Chrome OS jumps from the laptop to the desktop, as LG unveils a new all-in-on desktop with a new version of Chrome called Chromebase on it. LG plans to make this desktop affordable for those out there who do not want to spend a ton on a new desktop, and they plan on showing it off in January at CES 2014. Here are the specs to the new desktop:
- Processor: Intel® Celeron® CPU
- Operating System: Chrome OS
- Display: 21.5-inch Full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS
- Memory: 2 GB
- Storage: 16GB iSSD
- Ports: HDMI-in, USB 2.0 x3, USB 3.0 x1, LAN
- Accessories: Keyboard, Mouse, Cable Organizer
- Webcam: 1.3 M 720 HD
Not too bad if you aren’t looking for anything extravagant. Hopefully we will run into LG’s booth at CES, so we can give the new desktop a run. Let us know your thoughts about the new desktop. Would this be something you would get?

LG’s 21.5-inch Chromebase all-in-one puts ChromeOS on the desktop
Besides Samsung’s Chromebox series ChromeOS has appeared mostly on laptops, but now LG is ready to put its new Chromebase up against Apple’s iMac and Windows-based all-in-one desktop PCs. According to the spec sheet, that 21.5-inch 1080p LCD hides an Intel Celeron CPU, 2GB of RAM and a 16GB SSD inside, along with an assortment of ports in the back and on the sides. It won’t compete with high-end PCs on horsepower or internal storage, but it’s ready to play a part in Google’s vision of network computers that run mostly web-based apps, are hassle free and require no real maintenance. We’re not expecting to get Steam loaded up on here, but when we’re playing IT for relatives over the holiday something like this may be on our minds. Without a pricetag however, it’s hard to judge this one properly, so we’ll look for that and more information next month at CES.

LG G flex spied headed to Sprint, leak indicates
Sprint is expected to offer the recently introduced LG G Flex at some point in the near future, says reputable source @evleaks. Although the exact timing and price are not clear, the LS995 is likely closer to the United States than previously thought.
There’s no physical branding on the device yet the Sprint name in the calendar is a tip-off. Also, that symbol in the notification bar is for Sprint’s new Spark LTE service; the G Flex should debut with support for the carrier’s tri-band 4G LTE network.

Considering that we’re looking at a press-ready photo, and CES is a few weeks away, we may count on Sprint announcing the device for the future.
If LG follows its recent path we should look for the LG G Flex to hit multiple carriers in the United States over the next few months.
For those wondering what all of the hoopla is for the G Flex, check out this video of the device flexing under weight and healing itself.

LG debuts 5.5-inch Gx for native Korea
That didn’t take very long! Just a few days after first landing on our rumor radar, the LG Gx has been officially introduced. The Android Jelly Bean-powered smartphone features a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display, a 13-megapixel rear camera, and 32GB internal storage. With a design that calls to mind the Nexus 5 and Optimus G Pro, the Gx boasts 2GB RAM, a 3140mAh battery, and 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
Unlike the LG G2, this one goes for the more traditional approach with home, back, and menu buttons across the front. All in all, this is a sharp looking device which squeezes into a svelte 9.2mm frame.
In terms of software, the Gx includes some of LG’s custom touches; Q Remote, Media Time, and Smart Day, for example.
There’s no indication as to whether the Gx will make its way outside of its native land of Korea but we might not be surprised if it does. We’ve got Consumer Electronics Show (CES) and Mobile World Congress (MWC) coming up in January and February.; both are ideal places to announce U.S. versions.

LG GX Is Launched In Korea Bearing A 5.5-Inch Display And Snapdragon 600
Ever since the release of the LG G2, we’ve been expecting LG to launch a phablet smartphone soon after, much like the Korean outfit did for the LG Optimus G which was followed by the LG Optimus G Pro. Well, LG has indeed launched a phablet called the LG GX, though it’s not quite the phone we were expecting.
Spec-wise, the LG GX possesses a Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB RAM, 5.5-inch IPS display, 13MP rear camera, and 3,140mAh. Does that sound familiar? It should, because that’s exactly the same specs of the LG Optimus G Pro, the GX’s “predecessor”. While the GX may be the same on the inside, its exterior is quite different to the G Pro’s, though interestingly, it doesn’t take that many design cues from the G2 either, ditching the rear volume buttons for a more conventional side bumper.
There are some obvious upsides to the GX over the G Pro, namely LTE support and the benefit of some of the G2′s software gimmicks like the “knock on” feature which lets you wake up your phone with some tapping. Although the GX is only available in Korea for now, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the phone move to overseas markets, but we’ll let you know when we hear more. Would you get the LG GX? Let us know in the comments below.
LG finally joins the Spotify Smart TV party
Spotify has been available on a number of LG’s home theater products since March, but only now are Smart TV owners getting the chance to enjoy it on their flatscreens. The company announced today that the new app is coming to all of its 2013 model Smart TVs, but it will only be available to Premium account holders. While Spotify now offers free streaming to mobile and tablet users, the LG app requires a monthly subscription, but a month’s free trial may soften the blow if you’ve yet to sign up. With LG in the bag, the music service now supports three major TV makers, having already launched apps for Samsung and Philips sets. It gives the company a considerable advantage over its streaming rivals, which include Rdio, Google and Apple, by letting users access over 20 million tracks from an ever-expanding range of devices. LG says the new Smart TV app will go live in over 30 countries over the coming days, giving you the perfect opportunity to load up your playlists in time for Christmas.

LG launches GX smartphone in Korea with 5.5-inch display, Snapdragon 600
Expecting a lazy Sunday night? You aren’t thinking globally: it’s midday in Korea, and LG’s announcing a new large-screened smartphone. The LG GX features a wide 5.5-inch full HD IPS display, a quad-core Snapdragon 600 CPU, a 13 megapixel camera, 32GB of onboard storage and a 3,140 mAh battery. Don’t be too surprised if that sounds familiar — it matches the LG Optimus G Pro blow for blow, distinguishing itself primarily by design, locality and few updated user interface features. Namely, the GX has adopted the G2′s “knock on” feature, which allows users to double tap phone’s screen to rouse it from sleep, and it can also integrate with LG smart TVs to display call and text information while you’re watching the game. Naturally, the LTE-toting slab is only available in Korea for now, but if you’re looking for an eyeful, check out LG’s Flickr gallery at the source link below.

Nexus 5 now shipping with slightly altered physical appearance
Over at XDA Developers forum, some new owners of the Nexus 5, and those that returned theirs for defects, are reporting that their devices are slightly different from those that originally shipped at launch.
According to XDA member shinral, some devices had noisy buttons, a protruding SIM card tray and a “cutting edge” or sharp display frame.
With the recent long shipping times for the Nexus 5 to come back in stock, Google and LG must have been busy making slight tweaks to the production line.
All of these imperfections are reported to have been fixed and one of the other differences noted between the original and new Nexus 5 are larger microphone and speaker holes.
Have you had any issues with your Nexus 5 or noticed any of these changes?

LG and Google tweak Nexus 5 production to fix speaker and loose buttons
Owners of brand new Nexus 5 handsets are starting to notice a few subtle differences compared to the version that sold at launch. The mono speaker grille holes are slightly larger, for a start, which could potentially offer a decibel or so of extra volume and prevent buyers from having to go all crazy with a hot needle. The volume and power buttons seem to have been made stiffer too, suggesting that complaints about excessive rattling noises reached receptive ears at LG and Google. None of this will help those of us who bought launch day models, of course, unless there’s the option of seeking a replacement, but we reckon the Nexus 5 remains the best $350 option on the market even with all its original foibles.
