LG G Pad 8.3 with LTE could be on its way to Verizon
With LTE speeds putting coffee-shop WiFi to shame, many tablet makers now produce in pairs: one model with WiFi, and another with extra 4G radio and SIM slot. Not LG’s G Pad 8.3, though, as both skinned and Google editions of the slate spurn LTE for the sake of their ol’ buddy WiFi. It appears, however, that Verizon may’ve persuaded LG to pull together a cellular version of the G Pad for its network, if puzzle pieces from a recent FCC filing end up fitting together as we’d expect. All we know from the official docs is that an LG tablet, model number VK810, has been approved for the US market with LTE support for Bands 4 and 13 — Verizon’s magic numbers. As PhoneArena points out, the mystery tablet’s dimensions are more or less identical to those of the G Pad 8.3, which is where the trail ends. So, it’s more than likely we’ll see LG launch a 4G model with Big Red soon, but if being tied down ain’t your bag, then at least let it’s existence foster hopes of a carrier-agnostic LTE model sometime later.

Price drop for T-Mobile LG G2, Now Just $499.20
Looks like a price drop just happened for the T-Mobile LG G2. A slash pulls it down from $600 to $499.20. That would be a savings of $100.80. Seems like an odd price tag, but when you consider that this is with $0 down and EIP payments of $20.80, it adds up just fine over the 24 months period.
That isn’t all though. It also looks like the price drops even further if you happen to qualify for an upgrade. As TmoNews pointed out, thanks to a reader, the LG G2 is hitting at $403 with $0 down and only $16.80 for 24 months. That would also appear to be a WEB ONLY offer.
Guess it is time to clear out some stock to make room for the LG GFlex. Head over T-Mobile.com if the LG G2 has been something you have been eyeballing.

LG G Pro 2 due in February – Korean report
LG will introduce the G Pro 2 at Mobile World Congress in late February, says Korea’s ETNews. The handset is expected to run Android 4.4 KitKat and feature a 6-inch display, 3GB RAM, and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 processor.
LG has a history of unloading a number of devices in the days leading into MWC so we should look for that this year, too. It’s not clear whether this will come stateside or if we’ll have to wait for a successor to the G2 instead.

South Korea preparing 5G network for launch in 2020
In the middle of last year, we heard that Samsung had uncovered the technology required to achieve 5G network speeds, alleged to be a hundred times faster than existing 4G LTE networks. While researching the technology is one thing, actually building a mobile network capable of 5G speeds is quite another thing. Naturally then, one of the first countries to attempt building such a network would inevitably be South Korea, home to one of the world’s first LTE-Advanced networks.
To do this, it’s going to require the teaming up of South Korea’s greatest telecommunications giants including Samsung, LG, Korea Telecom and SK Telecom to build the network which is planned to be one thousand times faster than 4G networks. Yes, you read that right: one thousand. This would allow the network to top out at 1Gbps and achieve downloading feats such as downloading a 800MB movie in just a second. It almost sounds too good to be true, or at least, cost a trillion dollars to develop and finish. Actually, it’s a little closer to 1.6 trillion. 1.6 trillion won to be exact, or around $1.4 billion USD, and the planned finish date of the network is in 2020, with a trial service to occur prior to that in 2017.
It’s noteworthy to mention that South Korea isn’t the only country working on a 5G network at the moment either; Huawei is using its network expertise to develop its network in China and NTT Docomo is doing the same in its native Japan. At this point, it looks like a race to the finish, but at the end of the day, when 5G is commonplace, we all win.

LG reportedly opts for fingerprint scanners in flagship devices
Fingerprint sensors are becoming a new trend in smartphones. Recently, we saw the HTC One Max with a fingerprint sensor on its back, and also the new iPhone was launched with one as well. Now it seems that LG is planning to introduce the new trend in their phones as well. According to ETNews, future LG smartphones i.e. LG G3 and G2 Pro will feature fingerprint recognition technology and it will be located on the back, just like we saw the volume and power button on the G2.
It is said that LG wanted to launch the G2 with such technology, but due to lengthy development process and low yield, they had to let it go. It is expected that LG will release the new G3 in May 2014, and G2 Pro before that. So it seems LG got a lot up their shelves.
What are your thoughts about it? Tell us about it in the comment box below.

LG G Flex to launch in over 20 European countries this February
The G Flex’s world tour continues: following news of launches in the US, LG has announced that its bendy smartphone will reach more than 20 European countries this February. The continent-wide release involves larger countries like Austria, France, Germany, Italy and the UK. LG hasn’t named carriers just yet, although we already know that both EE in the UK and Orange in France will carry the 6-inch Android flagship. Given the pricing we’ve seen so far, it’s safe to say that European G Flex variants won’t be cheap.

LG G Flex will be $300 on AT&T, pre-orders begin January 24th

Sprint was the first out of the gate to announce LG G Flex pricing and availability for the US, but AT&T isn’t too far behind. The network just made it be known that the curved smartphone will be available for pre-order online and at retail stores starting January 24th. We haven’t been given specifics on when the device will get shipped out to early adopters, nor do we have a date on when it’ll be stocked on shelves for everyone else — but we do know, however, that it’ll be all yours for $300 with a two-year contract. If you’d rather get it on a Next plan, you can do so by paying $27 per month (on an 18-month plan) or $35 per month (on a 12-month plan).

Android 4.4 for LG Optimus G and Optimus G Pro spotted in Testing
After HTC announced that its HTC One X and One X+ would not be moving past Android 4.2.2, many phone owners could be forgiven for thinking that their manufacturer would also be leaving them high and dry without a software update past Jelly Bean. Not so for some LG owners as Android 4.4 for LG Optimus G and LG Optimus G Pro has been spotted in the wild being tested.
The User Agent profiles, first seen on Phone Arena, appear to list quite a few models of both the LG Optimus G and LG Optimus G Pro suggesting that Android 4.4 is being tested for these devices. This is great news for Optimus G owners in particular as many of them have been wondering what’s been taking so long seeing as it is basically the same device as the Nexus 4. All the same, it’s great to know that LG is still support at least some of its devices, even if Android 4.4 for its flagship LG G2 is still no where to be seen. No word on when the update will become available, but we’ll let you know when we do.
Any owners of an Optimus G or Optimus G Pro excited to hear that Android 4.4 exists for your device and is being tested right now? Let us know how you feel in the comments.

It’s Official: LG G2 Available In Gold And Red Variants
I’m not a fan of gold phones: I think they’re gaudy and slightly pretentious, but I may be in the minority seeing as almost every major phone manufacturer has produced a gold version of their flagship device. The latest addition to this exclusive gold club is the LG G2 as part of LG‘s official announcement to make the LG G2 available in gold and red.
Unlike the smooth, glossy back of the original G2, these limited edition gold and red handsets appear to use a grooved plastic. It’s unclear whether this was a practical or purely cosmetic alteration, but you’ll definitely get a better grip on the device if you aren’t using a case. Hardware specs predictably haven’t changed and TechDroid is saying that it is available for purchase now in Singapore for $898 SGD. We’re still waiting to see details on how much these variants will be in other regions, but seeing as it is limited edition, I wouldn’t hold my breath if you don’t live around Asia.
What are your thoughts about gold phones in general: do you think people like the colour scheme? Let us know what you think.
