[RUMOUR] LG G Pro 2 release date apparently set for February 13th

LG G Pro 2 release dateBeing so close to Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, we kind of assumed that most devices that were rumoured to be released around now would be announced at the industry event. It turns out our assumptions might have been wrong as it’s being reported that the LG G Pro 2 release date is going to be February 13th, 2 weeks before MWC. This contradicts some of the rumours we have previously heard, but if it’s true, LG could potentially get the jump on its competition who will be making announcements at MWC 2014.

Invites have already apparently been sent out for the announcement event in Korea, featuring the statement “Knock-knock knockin’ on” which presumably refers to the Knock On feature first seen on the LG G2; this feature allows a user to wake up the device’s screen simply by knocking on the screen.

The LG G Pro 2 is expected to be the spiritual phablet successor to the LG Optimus G Pro after dropping the ‘Optimus’ nomenclature from its premium family of devices. While expected specs of the device are pretty thin, we’d suspect the G Pro 2 to have a minimum of a Snapdragon 800 processor, and we have heard that the 13MP rear camera will be augmented with something LG calls “OIS Plus” for image stabilization and 4K resolution video recording. Whatever the G Pro 2 ends up rocking, we hope it gives Samsung’s Galaxy S5 a run for its money come MWC time.

Do you think the LG G Pro 2 will be a worthy device to compete with Samsung’s flagship devices? Let us know what you think about the device in the comments below.

LG Patent Shows “Slap-Bracelet” Stylus with Smartwatch Built-In.

A new pantent filing has surfaced showing off what LG has been upto lately. The recent filing shows how they are attempting to reinvent, and modernize, the slap bracelet. You remember those, right? They layout flat and you can”slap” them on your wrist for a fast, cool looking accessory. Well, maybe they weren’t so fashionable, but LG is looking to change that.

The new filing depicts a slap-bracelet that has a stylus tip on one end and a flat block on the other. Next to the block, which I assume houses a battery and some other electronics, is a small display. It is described in the USPTO filing as being touch sensitive.

LG Patent Slap Bracelet

It is an interesting patent. We actually saw a slap bracelet stylus at CES. Obviously it didn’t incorporate a screen of any kind or potential smartwatch/fitness tracking capabilities.

This could very well be the future of the LG Life Touch band. LG does have the ability to create flexible screens. I do worry about how well it would hold up if you were to “slap” it on your wrist in the typical fashion that we used to do when we were kids. The LG patent filing doesn’t mean they will be releasing anything like this soon though. It just means they want the patent rights to it so someone else doesn’t copy it. It would be king of cool to see though. What do you think? Is a slap-bracelet smartwatch / activity fitness tracker with a stylus something worth looking for?

This is the red Nexus 5 (hands-on)

Valentine’s Day is coming up, and ’tis the season for special red versions of well-established phones to magically pop out of the woodwork. It seems to happen at least once or twice this time of year, and the first one to make an appearance this year is the Nexus 5. Just like its black and white counterparts, the collaboration between Google and LG is now available in the Play Store for $350 (16GB) and $400 (32GB) and comes with all of the same specs.

The red Nexus 5 showed up at the door, so we wanted to take the opportunity to snap a bunch of shots for those of you who may be on the fence about whether or not to buy one. Is it any better than the other colors? Not really, but it all comes down to personal preference. The red version has the same smooth matte finish as the white model (in contrast to the black model, which has a soft-touch plastic feel). As you can see, LG and Google opted for red sides and edges, as well as a red-earpiece to go along with it. As there is more to look at than to actually say about the new hue, head straight down to our gallery below, which offers a perspective from nearly every angle.

Don’t look down: LG tests its robotic vacuum cleaners at extreme heights

When LG wants to show off the spatial awareness of its robotic vacuum cleaners, it doesn’t just set them off in a dummy living room. No, instead, the company has taken its latest Roboking to the roof of a skyscraper to prove that, when left to its own devices, the hardware can go right to the edge of a surface without diving off the side. Even when playing a quick game of rooftop soccer, the vacuum managed to stay in one piece and make the tiles look pristine. In another test, LG balanced the cleaner on a metal plate, hanging 100 meters off the ground, a challenge that was met with ease. Most people’s living rooms aren’t half as dangerous as this, of course, but if you enjoy watching robots skirting with death, you’ll be well catered for by the videos below.

LG confirms optical image stabilization for G Pro 2

Korean smartphone maker LG announced that the upcoming G Pro 2 will feature optical image stabilization (OIS) in the camera. The 13-megapixel shooter should provide less shakiness in pictures and videos; the front-facing 2.1-megapixel camera is reportedly improved as well. Other features detailed in LG’s blog post tell us the camera will be able to capture bursts of up to 20 images in a row with 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution as well as HD-quality slow motion videos.

It’s unclear if LG plans to spill more information on the G Pro 2 ahead of its release, but we’ll not complain if they do. LG has already gone on record as having the smartphone ready to roll for a Mobile World Congress debut.

LG G Pro 2 to get 4K recording from a 13MP camera with OIS Plus

LG G Pro 2 to get 4K recordingJust over a week ago, LG confirmed that it would officially be releasing the LG G Pro 2, the successor to yesteryear’s LG Optimus G Pro which did a decent job of joining Samsung in the phablet space. Since they, we haven’t had too many solid hardware suggestions beyond the fact that it will be bigger and most likely better than the LG flagship device, the LG G2. Well, today, LG itself has dropped some sneak-peek features which include 4K recording and a new image stabilization that LG has dubbed “OIS Plus”.

All of this will apparently be possible with the G Pro 2‘s 13MP rear camera, and will also possess a 2.1MP front camera which allegedly has “improved performance”. One sticking point for millions of smartphone photographers is inherently the issue of image stabilization, so perhaps LG has finally nailed it. Whatever LG has achieved with the G Pro 2′s cameras will be unveiled some time in February, presumably at MWC 2014 where Samsung has just revealed it will unveil its new flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S5. That’s definitely a tough crowd to compete with, but let’s hope that LG has something to surprise us with.

Is anyone considering getting a LG G Pro 2? Did anyone here have a LG Optimus G Pro and enjoy it? Let us know in the comments below.

LG promises upgraded image-stabilizing ‘plus’ camera and 4K video recording on G2 Pro flagship

Taking to its own social site, LG’s stated that the incoming G2 Pro (another smartphone set to debut at Barcelona later this month), will offer imaging skills that will put its current champ, the G2, to shame. While its predecessor was a capable smartphone camera in its own right, LG is apparently adding a software upgrade to the optical image stabilization camera found on its preceding Android phones. It’s calling the feature “Electro Image System” and it will apparently keep those 13-megapixel shots even sharper, augmenting existing hardware stabilization. Video function-wise, slow-motion recording at 25 percent speed and even Ultra HD video capture (at 3,840 x 2,160) will also be packed into the smartphone rumored to be incrementally larger than last year’s G2. Expect a new UX for the camera app, too, when the device is officially presented to the tech-reporting masses in a few weeks.

Red Nexus 5 leaked again, now a little more official than before

If you’ve been keeping tabs on mobile news lately, you’d know that there are more than enough rumors regarding the Nexus 5 in a bright red color.

Courtesy of popular leaker, evleaks, the Nexus 5 in red shows up in a pretty believable press render. Though it isn’t official yet, evleaks is very seldomly wrong – especially given the recent leaks from other sources.

Also, an alleged Sprint memo surfaced yesterday, revealing the possible release date of the red variant – Feburary 4th. With more and more rumors beginning to spread about this device, we’d say that just might become a reality.

Leaked LG G Pro 2 images show rear-mounted buttons

A pair of images surfacing over at Korean site DC Inside are giving us our first peeks at the upcoming LG G Pro 2. Like the G2 and G Flex, this guy appears to have rear-mounted navigation buttons. Set to be offered white with chrome accents, the G Pro 2 is expected to debut at Mobile World Congress in the next few weeks. Among other details, specifications for the LG G Pro 2 are reported to include a 6-inch 1080p HD display, a quad-core Snapdragon 800 CPU, and LTE/LTE-A data networks. In terms of software we should anticipate Android 4.3 Jelly Bean or later, with LG’s custom UI features and enhancements.
