LG G Pro 2 is now official, boasts 4K, 120fps and slow motion video recording Chops
Today was D-Day for the unveiling of LG’s latest smartphone and they didn’t disappoint: the LG G Pro 2 is now official and it might even have its main competitor, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, quivering in its shoes. The successor to the LG Optimus G Pro upgrades its screen size to a massive 5.9-inches, behind which it packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, 3GB RAM, either 16 or 32GB storage (with additional microSD slot) and a 3,200mAh battery.
Also running Android 4.4 KitKat, the G Pro 2 also features a 2.1MP front camera, and crucially a 13MP rear camera which LG says is capable of recording 4K video. This 13MP camera, which utilizes LG’s proprietary OIS+ technology, can also capture HD video at 120fps as well as being able to edit videos into 4 different speeds which include slow motion. LG also brings its KnockON feature over from the LG G2 which allows you to unlock your phone using just a light knock against the screen. The full list of features for the LG G Pro 2 include:
- Chipset: Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 800 (2.26 GHz Quad-Core)
- GPU: Qualcomm Technologies’ Adreno™ 330
- Display: 5.9-inch Full HD IPS (1920 x 1080), Slim Bezel
- Memory: 3GB DDR3 RAM / 16GB/32GB eMMC ROM / microSD slot
- Camera: Rear 13.0MP OIS+ / Front 2.1MP
- Battery: 3,200mAh (removable)
- Operating System: Android 4.4 KitKat
- Size: 157.9 x 81.9 x 8.3mm
- Weight: 172g
- Network: LTE / HSPA+
- Connectivity: Bluetooth Smart Ready (BT 4.0) / USB / WiFi (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac) / NFC / SlimPort
- Colors: Titan, White, Silver
- Other: Knock Code™, 1W Hi-Fi Sound, Content Lock
The LG G Pro 2 is available now in Korea in Titan, White and Black, though no price has been named, and while LG has not specifically said where the phone would be headed outside of Korea, it’s hard to imagine that it wouldn’t be available in every major market very soon. I’m still disappointed LG didn’t include a stylus with its phablet, which could be a key area that the Note 3 has a monopoly over in the phablet space, but I think the impressive camera firmly puts it as one of the best devices available on the market right now.

LG’s extra-large G Pro 2 packs a 4K video camera and knock code unlock feature
Looks like LG wants to get out ahead of all the smartphone news soon to come from Barcelona at Mobile World Congress, as the South Korean company has officially announced the G Pro 2. As prior leaks indicated, it’s a larger version of the original G Pro — it packs a 5.9-inch screen, as opposed to its predecessor’s 5.5-inch panel. That means the G Pro 2 matches Samsung’s Galaxy Note 3 in terms of size and it packs the same 1,920 x 1,080 resolution display. Additionally, it has an evolution of the G Pro’s knock-to-unlock feature that allows you to unlock and power up the phone by tapping on the screen in a specific cadence.
LG’s latest also has an optically stabilized, 13-megapixel camera and 32GB to store your photos and any 4K videos you shoot at up to 120 frames per second. Plus, it’ll ship with Android’s latest version 4.4 (KitKat) and can be had in three colors: white, silver and black. Naturally, LG has declined to give us a price or a ship date for its new flagship here in the States, but hopefully they’ll give up all those details and more at MWC.

LG G2 Mini Teased on LG’s Facebook Page, Feb 24th Announcement Date
Mobile World Congress is fast approaching and now is the time for various company’s to start teasing what they will be unveiling. We see everything from little hints in press invites to meetings, to teasers on YouTube to images posted through their various social channels. While they don’t always lead to what we suspect sometimes, they are usually pretty darn close. LGs photo that went up on their Facebook page hints at a new device and then shows it. Obviously the image is hinting towards the LG G2 Mini.
The image offered up a tag line of “Experience the MINI.Mobile World Congress. 2014-02-24″. It is pretty clear that LG will be showcasing the LG G2 Mini in just 12 days. Not a lot is really known about this little guy though. Talks put it at a 4.7-inch display, which would be mini compared to the 5.2-inch big brother. The image does show that it will have a fingerprint scanner on the back.
I just hope LG doesn’t go the route that many of the other mini variants have. I can live with a screen resolution and battery reduction, but I would like to LG pack in the same hardware to a smaller frame like Sony did with the Z1 compact.

LG teases G2 Mini for Mobile World Congress 2014
As Mobile World Congress approaches quickly, the rumors are in full swing. This time it’s LG with the announcement confirmed for the G2 Mini.
According to a recent Facebook post from the official LG profile, the G2 Mini will be announced at MWC on 02/24/2014.
That’s about all the info that the post gives us for now. We have previously heard some rumored specs for the device, but not much. It should be sporting a 4.7 inch, 720p display, with an 8MP rear-facing camera.
Hopefully the jump from the G2 Mini to the G2 will be more like the Sony Z1 Compact to the O.G. Z1. When Sony made the Compact a smaller version of the Z1 without sacrificing any specs, it was a big change from what we’re used to. “Mini” phones tend to take a hit in specs, not only screen size, so we’ll have to wait and see as more details arise.
Stick around for more news about the G2 Mini and other MWC news!

LG is also shrinking its flagship phone: G2 Mini to launch later this month
Blazing a trail set by the likes of Samsung, HTC and Sony, LG is set to become the latest phone maker to release a smaller version of its flagship smartphone. In a image shared on its Facebook page, LG has given us a first look the new G2 Mini, which is set to make its big debut on February 24th at this year’s Mobile World Congress. While LG isn’t disclosing any specs right now, the teaser image does show that the Mini will retain the same unique backside as the G2, placing the volume rocker and power button just below the rear camera. Beyond that though, it’s hard to tell what other features the G2 Mini will retain. But with Mobile World Congress less than two weeks away, we’ll get the full lowdown soon enough — that is unless LG decides it wants to share more details before then.

Samsung and LG intro first triple-SIM devices
Multiple SIM smartphones may not be that popular in the U.S., but have been in markets around the globe, usually supporting dual-SIM cards.
One upcoming phone, codenamed the Nokia Normandy, is even said to support two SIM cards so you can have multiple numbers on multiple networks if you desired.
While dual-SIM is great and all, Samsung and LG are already thinking ahead. Recently, LG and Samsung Brazil unveiled two new smartphones with triple-SIM support, the Samsung Galaxy Star Trios and the LG Optimus L1 II Tri.
If you’re all about having a high-end smartphone, you’ll need to look-elsewhere as both have low-end specs with “tiny QVGA screens,” 512 MB of RAM, among other meager specs. Such low end specs also come with a low price of $165 for Samsung’s smartphone and $127 for LG’s. If you’re looking for a beefier budget smartphone, you may want to look to Motorola’s Moto G, but you lose the key features these offer. These phones do run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, so I guess that’s maybe another plus.
Don’t expect to see these in the U.S., but look for them in emerging markets.

LG’s heart rate-tracking earbuds could arrive in the US soon
Back at CES, LG was talking up the Lifeband fitness wearable and a pair of heart rate-sensing earphones, but neglected to mention when we’d actually see them in stores. Thanks to the FCC, however, we can get a reasonable idea that the latter device will arrive shortly. Now that the Bluetooth earphones, packed with Valencell’s optical heart rate-monitoring technology, have been deemed fit for human consumption, it shouldn’t be too long before this gear is available to buy — and we can get back to wondering when the Nike-troubling Lifeband will make an appearance.

LG cuts the price of its curved OLED TV to a vaguely reasonable $7,000
The US price of LG’s first curved OLED TV dropped from $15,000 to a slightly less stratospheric $10,000 late last year, but that five-digit sticker was still bound to scare away all but the richest buyers. It’s a good thing, then, that LG has cut the 55-inch set’s price a second time. You can now pick up the curved screen for $7,000 — or rather, $8,000 plus an instant $1,000 rebate. It’s not a great bargain when you can buy a larger 4K display for less, but those who insist on having an exotic-looking TV in the living room will likely appreciate the savings.

LG event in Korea could reveal the G Pro 2 earlier than expected
LG was expected to announce the G Pro 2 at MWC in Barcelona but ZDNET Korea is reckoning that locals might get an early peek. A “knock-knock-knockin’ on” invite has it thinking that the LG’s new smartphone might be ready over a week ahead of arguably the world’s biggest mobile tech show. (Although, that particular Dylan song might not offer the appropriate upbeat message LG is hoping for.) The company has already promised substantial camera upgrades for the new flagship, and going by LG’s record on its Pro models — and those leaked photos — you can expect it to keep the styling of the original G2 (buttons on the back, dominating screen up front), albeit with a larger display on board. We’re hearing that it’s a smallish event for Korean media — expect the full global fanfare when it appears in Spain.
