LG confirms the LG G3 in their Q1 2014 earnings report

Clever marketing or a typo? It seems like LG just confirmed that the LG G3 is on its way to market during their Q1 2014 earnings report published today, after seeing a leak of what was suspected to be the actual device.
Whilst reporting their increased 6 percent profit and attributing their success to the LG G2, LG then continue to state that even higher revenues are expected in the second quarter of 2014 with the launch of the LG G3.
Revenues of KRW 3.41 trillion (USD 3.19 billion) increased 6 percent year-on-year and operating profit margins rose quarter-on-quarter due to the launch of G Pro 2 in the domestic market and more efficient marketing spending. Higher revenues are expected in the second quarter with the release of the flagship LG G3 smartphone and wider roll-out of the mass-tier L Series III.
Not only have LG confirmed the existance of the G3 device, but also gave a window to expect it. With the company expecting to see increased revenue from the LG G3 release as soon as Q2 of 2014, we can expect to see the new flagship handset launching very soon.

LG is making a webOS TV range just for John Lewis stores
John Lewis is a big fan of cornering retail exclusives on gadgets, and it now appears that this love is extending to smart TVs. Pocket-lint has noticed that the department store chain is teasing the JL9000 series, a line of self-branded, LG-designed webOS TVs that should be more than just a rehashes of the sets we saw at CES this year. The 49-, 55- and 60-inch models will all include stands with built-in 2.1-channel soundbars, giving you decent (if likely unremarkable) audio out of the box. There’s also promises of support for local streaming services such as BBC iPlayer and Now TV, although we’d frankly be surprised if these didn’t appear on a UK-specific set.
The catalogue only promises that the JL9000 range will be available “next month,” so it’s not clear exactly when you’ll get to swing by the local shop for a look. However, these models will certainly be pricier than garden variety webOS sets. The 49-inch variant will start things off at £1,499, while the 55- and 60-inch editions will respectively cost £1,899 and £2,299 — apparently, those speakers command quite a premium.

LG one of the few making money from TVs as profits triple
While LG’s earnings and profits are dwarfed Samsung, at least it has some bragging rights this quarter. Unlike its Korean arch-enemy, LG actually made money with its home entertainment and display division, which it chalked up to better sales in large TVs. In fact, the company claims it now sells more big-screen displays than any other, including Samsung, with a 27 percent share of the market worldwide. That helped contribute to 14 trillion won ($13 billion) in total sales, with an operating profit of 504 billion won ($471 million) — triple what it managed the same time last year. (For a sense of scale, Samsung pulled in around $52 billion dollars and made $8 billion or so in profit.)
LG didn’t do bad in mobile, either, as it shipped 12.3 million smartphones, almost 20 percent more than last year. (Again, for a little perspective, Samsung sold 112 million smartphones in the same period.) Another feather in its cap was a 79 percent increase in LTE smartphone sales over last year — though that also reflects a significant uptick in 4G infrastructure around the world. Despite those bright spots, the company still lost a bit of money from its mobile division. However, LG confirmed that it’s set to launch the G3 during the next quarter, as expected. That should boost sales, since that handset will succeed its best-selling G2 model.

Alleged first look at LG G3 backside

LG will once again employ the rear volume and power button configuration for the successor to the G2 smartphone. That is, of course, provided these recently leaked photos prove to be legitimate. In one image we see what appears to be the back side of the device while the other alleges to be a protective case for the phone.

Assuming the image of the smartphone is real, the buttons have undergone a slight change in layout and look. Not that we would expect otherwise. Flanking the camera we have two objects, one of which we figure is a flash. The other, as some point out, could be a fingerprint sensor or hear rate monitor.
It’s worth pointing out that the case does not look like it would match up perfectly; proceed with caution. Otherwise, we’re cool with the look and think it works well for LG.

Leaks hint at a sleeker UI and a Google Now-like service on the LG G3
The latest rumors about LG’s G3 handset have mentioned a Quad HD display, but now it’s time to take a look at what you’ll see on that screen. According to leaked screenshots acquired by Digital Trends, the upcoming smartphone will feature a completely new interface with a flat design and brighter icons, along with a revamped notification drawer with circular icons. The screens show a phone UI that’s leaps and bounds sleeker than what you’ll find on the G2, and it’s a more than a tad reminiscent of Apple’s aesthetics in iOS 7.
An improved design is one thing, but the leaked screens also hint at some new functionality. The G3 appears to offer a concierge-like personalization tool, which apparently pulls in weather and other info à la Google Now. Digital Trends‘ source says LG’s software will “go beyond Google’s system,” which likely means a huge focus on learning your habits in order to deliver better suggestions.

T-Mobile, MetroPCS add LG Optimus L70, L90

T-Mobile and MetroPCS on Tuesday confirmed the availability of the LG Optimus L70 and Optimus L90 smartphones. Both were announced earlier in 2014, and feature Android 4.4 KitKat with LG’s custom UI enhancements.
T-Mobile will carry the 4G LTE-ready Optimus L90 starting from April 30 with a full retail price of $228. Broken down over 24 equal monthly payments, users can expect to pay $9.50 per month. Specifications include a 4.7-inch qHD display, quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, 2,540mAh battery, and an 8-megapixel/1.3-megapixel camera combo.
The Optimus L70 is sold by MetroPCS for $49 after a $100 instant rebate; a limited promotion sees an extra $49 rebate to those who prepay their bill two months in advance. Specs here include a 4.5-inch (800×400) display, dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB, a 2,100mAh battery, and a 5-megapixel/VGA camera combo.

LG’s upcoming G Watch detailed with new specs and images
LG’s official site has just spilled a few extra tidbits about the G Watch, which is due out in the summer and will be based on Google’s Android Wear platform. For a start, there’ll be two color options: “stealth black” or “champagne gold,” both with plain rubbery straps and slab-like faces that are meant to look “timeless.” Fortunately, though, the G Watch will have the time written all over it during actual use, because LG is promising that the screen will never go to sleep — unlike Samsung’s Gear 2, where you have to wake up the display with a movement of your arm. One last important detail is a confirmation that the device will be waterproof and dustproof — something that, strangely, still can’t be taken for granted in the smartwatch market.

LG G3 Mini expected at AT&T

In past few months, we have seen the LG G3 in news quite a few times, as it will be LG’s successor to go head-to-head with HTC One M8 and the Galaxy S5. But it seems LG is already working on the mini version of the LG G3 as well, and apparently it will be an AT&T exclusive. Folks over at MyLGPhones spotted some information about the LG G3 and LG G3 Mini in a UA Profile, which also tells us that the codename for LG G3 is LG B2, and model number for 4 major US carriers will be: LG-D850, LG-LS990, LG-D851, and LG-VS985. Have a look below:
You can see the D725, with codename ‘B2MINI’. The only thing we know about it is that it will come with an 8MP camera, its display resolution will be 720×1280, and it will be running on Android 4.4.2. It seems that AT&T will launch the LG G3 and the LG G3 Mini with it in near future.
Stay tuned with us for more information, and do you think a mini version of LG G3 is a good idea?
