New LG G Pad Series tablets in 7.0, 8.0 and 10.1-inch variants: looks like Samsung was onto Something
Not many people will admit that Samsung is right about its market strategy; with device coming out of their ears, it feels like Samsung is often trying to get its fingers into too many pies. However, it looks like Samsung might have been right about the tablet market, at least implicitly, with LG announcing new LG G Pad Series tablets in 7.0, 8.0 and 10.1-inch variants, which will replace the outgoing G Pad 8.3 and come in the same sizes that Samsung is launching its Galaxy Tab 4 tablets in.
Speaking about the new line of tablets, Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile, says that they have rethought their G Pad series:
“Unlike smartphones, tablets are not one size fits all. So we designed the G Pad Series for a diverse target audience, some who prioritize portability while others want the best multimedia experience possible.”
Or in other words, the G Pad 8.3 should not have been their only tablet entry last year. With the market share that the G Pad 8.3 did garner, LG is hoping to build upon that with their new tablets which will feature trademark LG user experiences like Qpair 2.0 (a feature introduced on the G Pad 8.3) and Knock Code. Prices and specifications have yet to be announced, however we aren’t expecting anything too posh as these tablets are likely competing with Samsung in the mid-range tablet market.
What do you think about LG’s strategy to launch three new tablets in familiar fashion? Would you consider getting one? Let us know your opinion in the comments.

LG G Watch Featured in New Fancy Video
New Smartwatches featuring Android Wear will be hitting our wrists fairly soon, and LG wanted to remind us about their new LG G Watch. It was announced the same day as the Moto 360, and even though it seemed that people were preferring the 360 over the G Watch, the G watch still looks pretty sexy. LG just released a new promo video featuring their new smartwatch, and they pulled out all the stops in this one. Spiffy special effects really give the G Watch an elegance to it, and it might sway people towards it from looking at the Moto 360. So check out the new video and let us know what you think about it.
G Watch promo video gives us another peek at LG’s Android-powered wristwear
We’re not expecting to find out all about LG’s “G Watch” smartwatch (and new top of the line G3 phone) until the end of this month, but if you needed another teaser then here it goes. A short promo video for the device doesn’t introduce much in the way of details, but if you want to see its Android Wear software in motion or a few 360-degree rotations of its “timeless” metal body, this will suffice. LG is still promising to the “define the smartwatch” with all-day comfort and readiness for anything on a single charge despite an always-on screen, all in a water- and dust-resistant shell.

LG admits that one size doesn’t fit all with three new G Pad tablets

LG hasn’t quite pulled a Samsung with its new G Pad tablet family, but it’s coming close by offering the slate in three different sizes: 7-, 8-, and 10.1-inch. We liked the original 8.3-inch G Pad tablet just fine, but found it was a little too expensive compared to others in the in the 7- to 8-inch size range. Pricing details aren’t available yet so we don’t know if the company has addressed that angle, but the new tablets will include all of LG’s latest software tweaks like Knock Code unlocking, and QPair Bluetooth syncing of notifications with an Android smartphone. Information on availability is also TBA, but the public’s first chance to put their greasy palms on these screens will come at the MedPl 2014 trade show this week in Monaco — we’re sure you were already on your way there.

LG G3 image leak shows off brushed back plates

It’s been 9 months since the LG G2 was unveiled and to this day it is a great phone. The announcement day for it’s successor, LG G3, is getting closer and along with that we’re getting more and more rumors/leaks regarding that much anticipated LG phone.
A few days ago a gold image of a possible LG G3 unit leaked showing of a brushed back plate, this time around we have a similar image showing the device in black and white colors with the same brushed back. Our best guess is that the back plate is plastic even though it kinda looks metal, we’ll let you be the judge of that.
Regarding the specs, LG G3 is rumored to have a 5.5-inch 2560×1440 QHD display, Snapdragon 805 processor along with 3GB of RAM and a 13MP camera with OIS+ included in the package. The announcement of LG G3 is going to take place on May 27, we’ll just have to wait and see what LG has up its sleeve for this much anticipated smartphone.

Yet another LG G3 leak, this time being shown off in shiny grey and White
We’re well into LG G3 leak territory now. Yet another leaked photo of LG‘s next rumoured (and basically confirmed) flagship, the LG G3, has surfaced today, this time showing off grey and white variants of the phone side-by-side. While we got a good look at the gold version yesterday (and we see it hanging around at the top of this photo too), the grey and white versions we see today basically confirm that the design of the LG G3 will most likely look like this.
While we’ve had several suggestions that the LG G3 may have a brushed aluminium back cover, it’s increasingly looking like the phone actually just has a plastic back cover that has been made to look like brushed aluminium. Aesthetic-wise, this probably isn’t much of an issue, however it will lack the more metallic feel that is so far best represented by the HTC One M8. Still, the LG G3 is looking like it’s shaping up to be a fantastic phone, with rumoured specifications like a Snapdragon 805, 3GB RAM and a 13MP camera with OIS+, assuming it is announced at LG’s event on May 27th.
What do you think about the appearance of the LG G3 in grey and white? Which would you get? Let us know in the comments.

[LEAK] All that glitters is not gold, unless you’re a gold LG G3
Another day, another LG G3 leak. The frequency of leaked photos and information regarding the rumoured flagship from LG has definitely increased the last few weeks, and small wonder considering the suspected announcement event on May 27th is only a few weeks away now. The LG G3, which is widely suspected to succeed the LG G2 at the end of May or early June, has had several leaked photos of it recently, but today we get a very clear look at what is probably close to the finished product, a gold LG G3 no less, courtesy of GSM Arena.
In the leaked photos, we get a very good look at both the front and the back of the LG G3. The back of the device looks a lot like the rumours have suspected including the rear volume buttons and a back cover that closely resembles brushed aluminium (though it has been suggested that this might just be plastic made to look like brushed aluminium). The front of the device is much more interesting to take a look at, and while it’s hard to make out in the slightly blurry photo, but the bezels are looking extremely thin on the sizes, and even the space alotted to the LG logo is minimal. Also, is it me, or does the LG G3 look pretty darn good in gold?
It’s been rumoured that the LG G3 is going to be carrying the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor, 3GB RAM, a 13MP OIS+ enhanced rear camera, 3,200mAh battery and a 5.5-inch Quad HD display which has seemingly been confirmed by a formal announcement by LG Display earlier in the week. Whatever the LG G3 does end up having, it’s likely to give the other flagship smartphones out there a run for their money. What do you think about the look of the LG G3 in these leaked photos? Let us know your opinion in the comments.

New Nexus tablet shows up on a Chromium tracker?

Rumors regarding Google’s new Nexus tablet are all over the place. The rumors were initially pointing at LG as the manufacturer of the device and afterwards that spot was taken by HTC. Most rumors point to the fact that the device’s name will be Nexus 8 and that the screen will be somewhat larger than the current gen Nexus tablet, that is 7.9 or 8.9″, we’re heard it both ways. Nothing is set it stone, but this is our guess.
In some new developments regarding the new offering from Google, Myce speculates that the tablet has been mentioned in a Chromium issue tracker report. Codename of the device is “Flounder”, which is an oceanic fish. What makes Myce think this is a new Nexus device is the fact that Google named all of its previous Nexus offerings by a fish, their codenames that is. We can also find a word “fingerprint” in the report, which is probably a fingerprint scanner, but the context is unclear.
Along with the new tablet Google is probably going to release a new version of Android, version 4.5, which is also a speculation at this point, they still might surprise everyone and make that jump to version 5.0.
Do you think this leak is a new Nexus tablet? What do you think it will be called and who will manufacture it?

LG intros 5.5-inch Quad HD display ahead of G3

LG have just announced that their new 5.5-inch Quad HD (or QHD) display will be released for the first time on their upcoming flagship, the G3. If you remember, the LG G3 is set to be released on May 27th.
This new display has a 2560×1440 resolution, four times the image resolution of HD panels, and 1.8 times higher resolution than a Full HD panel. Adding a little bump up in design from last years G2, this display enables the phone to have a mere 1.15mm bezel.
This is looking up to be one of the best displays we see this year. If you didn’t catch it before, the G3 is rumored to have a Snapdragon 805, 3GB RAM, and a 13MP camera. Not only is the display looking great, but the whole phone seems better and better every day.
Seoul, Korea (May 8, 2014) – LG Display announced today that its 5.5-inch Quad HD (QHD) AH-IPS LCD panel for smartphones was certified as a QHD display after passing verified tests by NEMKO, the Norway-based international testing and certification organization for electrical products. The certification comes shortly before the new Quad HD LCD panel will be unveiled with theforthcoming LG’s flagship smartphone to be launched in the first half of the year.
The certified 5.5-inch QHD AH-IPS LCD panel has 2560 x 1440 pixels, four times the image resolution of HD panels and 1.8 times higher resolution than a Full HD panel. With 538 pixels per inch, this panel also meets the 100 percent RGB color reproduction standard.
This panel, which will go into mass production shortly, will offer superior performance to other existing smartphone panels. This is an ultra-slim panel with a mere 1.2 mm thickness and has a 1.15 mm bezel, which will be the narrowest available and 0.05 mm less than panels introduced last year.
In addition, the panel has achieved the same level of brightness as a Full HD panel. It is difficult to raise penetration ratio in higher resolution panels since they have more pixels. However, LG Display successfully achieved higher brightness by improving the penetration ratio through enhancing the pixel structure design and aperture ratio in the LTPS backplane.
The Quad HD display produces images in sharper color and contrast than regular displays because of the greater amount of pixels. This means that high resolution images and videos in the Blu-ray format can be viewed in a fully vivid and realistic manner. The display retains the readability of letters and images without distorting them when they are enlarged while surfing the internet or working on documents.
“This product fulfills the core qualities of smartphone displays, which are high resolution and slim design, and I believe the consumers can enjoy vivid images that are close to real life with this display,” said Byung-koo Kim, Vice President and Head of LG Display’s IT/Mobile Development Group. “LG Display will continue to maintain technology leadership in the super high-resolution smartphone display market above 500 ppi resolution, which will take off this year.”
According to DisplaySearch, the shipment of premium smartphone displays based on LTPS backplanes is expected to grow to 780 million units by this year and 940 million units by next year. These products are going to maintain sufficient competitive advantage in premium product categories where large size, high resolution and low power consumption are key factors.
