Samsung Hires new Head of Design Again
After replacing its Head of Design last year due to dismal reviews of the aesthetics of the Galaxy S5, Samsung is again changing things up on the personnel side of things. Lee Dontae, former head of Tangerine, has been hired as the new Head of Design for the Korean tech company. Tangerine, as you may recall, was founded by Jonathan Ive, Apple’s current Senior VP of Design. Lee Dontae has made a name for himself in the world of design, consulting with companies like Samsung, LG, Toyota, and British Airways.
Lee Dontae’s official title is VP and Global Design Head of the Design Management Center. He is hoping to elevate the design prowess across the board, instead of focusing on one product. This is welcome news for tech lovers everywhere, and potentially Samsung’s upcoming sales figures. For quite a while, it seems that Samsung has been stuck in the “Design Doldrums,” with a relatively stagnant aesthetic ideal.
Do you think these changes will help Samsung embark on the next leg of its journey in the right direction? Or will it just be more of the same, to the chagrin of potential customers? LEave a comment below and let us know what you think!

LG G2 Gets Sweet News
LG’s hit smartphone of 2013 has finally gotten its turn for a treat. The Korean version of the LG G2 has officially received Lollipop. That means that all of the new, exciting features of Android’s latest version is now available for all users of the fancy device. If you own the Korean version, you should probably go check for the update if you haven’t already. This news, of course, is hardly surprising, considering the video that surfaced a few days back of the LG G2 running an official version of Lollipop.
Here’s to hoping that the new update is bug-free and completely stable!

Early LG G4 rumors suggest 16-megapixel wide camera, Snapdragon 810 CPU

With CES in the rear view mirror and Mobile World Congress fast approaching, we’re in that time frame where unannounced devices are being leaked. The next few months should give way to rumors and conjecture. Such is the case, already, for the successor to the LG G3.
Early chatter around the handset suggest the next-gen flagship could feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with 3GB RAM. The camera, allegedly, is being bumped from 13-megapixels to a wide-angle 16-megapixel shooter.
Other hardware is not clear at this point; it is expected to run Android 5.0 Lollipop.
LG has increasingly shortened the window of time between flagships so we might not be surprised if the so-called G4 arrives at Mobile World Congress. Historically, LG brings quite an arsenal of new products to Barcelona. Perhaps this one will be along for the ride.

LG G Flex 2 for U.S. Cellular appears in FCC filing
Last week at CES 2015, the LG G Flex 2 was introduced to the world. Both Sprint and AT&T were quick to confirm the handset’s availability to their customers. We can add U.S. Cellular to the list of carriers offering the G Flex 2 because an FCC filing reveals that the carrier has its own variant. It supports LTE bands 5 and 12 in addition to the 850 and 1900 CDMA bands. All of these are supported by U.S. Cellular. The exact model number for the handset in this FCC filing is LG-US995.

Gas leak forces LG factory to halt OLED TV production
A tragic gas leak at one of LG’s domestic OLED TV panel plants this week might have some big ramifications for the TV market. South Korea’s Ministry of Employment and Labor has ordered LG to shut down the factory while it investigates the accident, which killed two workers and injured four. A spokeswoman wasn’t willing to predict the closure’s effect on sales for Reuters, but it comes days after LG unveiled its Best of CES-winning Art Slim OLED sets and might affect a timely launch (at least for Koreans) if the investigation takes a while. The victims and the plant’s safety undoubtedly take higher priority — just don’t be surprised if there are ripple effects.

US Cellular bound LG G Flex 2 swings through the FCC
LG had a pretty great showing at CES 2015. Among the announcements was the refreshed G Flex, the LG G Flex 2. It really stole the show since there weren’t any phone announcements from major players that week. Not unless you count Polaroid and a few randoms. A model number of LG-US995 has now swung […]

LG G2 Shown Running Android 5.0 in Video

A YouTube video has surfaced of the LG G2 running on Android 5.0 Lollipop. The nearly three minute video below, filmed with a Galaxy Note 3, shows a person take a tour of the software.
There is no doubt this is indeed Lollipop as can be seen from the presence of Material design. For example, just 14 seconds in, you can see the multitasking view has the carousel effect that is present in Android L.
Since the LG G2 was the company’s flagship of 2013, hopefully, this should mean an update is also coming to its successor, the G3.

LG G Flex 2 rumored with more affordable sticker price

The LG G Flex 2 could come in with a more affordable price point than its predecessor, or so it might appear. According to a listing on Amazon.de, the new flagship handset is listed with an off-contract cost of EUR 599 or shakes out to around $600 US. Cheaper than the first generation by about $100, it likely will bring the contract price down as well. As some may recall, the first G Flex ran $299 with a two-year agreement when it first launched.
Price point aside, we’ve been very impressed with what we’ve seen in the G Flex 2. Pictures and specs don’t do this one justice; it’s truly a gorgeous device and one we can’t wait to get our hands on. Throw in this rumored lower cost and we’re really feeling it. How about you?

LG G Flex 2 priced at €599.99 on Amazon.de

The LG G Flex 2 was recently unveiled at CES 2015 and comes packing plenty of cutting edge hardware, including LG’s latest flexible display and Qualcomm’s new high-end processor. According to a listing on Amazon.de, the LG G Flex 2 will retail for around €599.99 off-contract. This will probably work out to around $600 in the US, give or take, based on the usual price differences.
This puts the G Flex 2 just on the cheaper side of your typical flagship smartphone and certainly isn’t an unreasonable price for a handset featuring a 5.5-inch 1080p flexible display, 13MP OIS+ camera, Snapdragon 810 processor, and a self-healing cover. However, what isn’t clear is whether this is the 2GB RAM/16GB storage or 3GB RAM/32GB storage variety of the handset, although the price probably suggests the former. Unfortunately, there’s no mention of a release date either, although pre-orders are available now via the link.
If you would like a closer look at what the G Flex 2 has to offer for €599.99, check out our coverage of the launch announcement and our time spent going hands-on with the handset at CES.
