LG’s newest video is redefining the curve

LG has recently released a new trailer for one of the hottest items announced at CES 2015.  The LG G Flex 2’s newest intro video showcases some of the devices impressive features.  Along with its signature curved glass display, LG has retained the “self-healing” back design from the last G Flex model.  LG’s exclusive curved 5.5 inch full HD screen is being marketed as a fully immersive experience for viewing content. The Android 5.0 Lollipop powered mobile device includes a 64-bit octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 and a 3,000mAh fast charge battery.

Bigger batteries are great for devices with larger screens; however, this is not the only improvement made in this iteration of the G Flex.  A faster 13mp camera designed with OIS+ and a laser focus is also included in this year’s model.

What do you think?  Are you more excited for the G Flex 2 after watching the new trailer?

Image of an LG flip phone with Android appears

lg_ice_cream_smart_flip_phone_upleaks

Forget about the LG G4 because this device, if real, should have your attention. Earlier today on Twitter, @upleaks provided the image above. It shows a flip phone with Android running as the operating system. How do we know it is Android? The layout and icons are identical to what is found on any LG device. Here, it is just minimized. The name “Ice Cream Smart” is attached to the image; therefore, we could be looking at a possible name because the company already released an Ice Cream in 2008. While Ice Cream Smart would be very random, the name would be original for LG.

Would you be interested in a flip phone with Android, particularly for someone that needs a simplified handset? Let us know in the comments.

Official LG G Flex 2 intro video highlights unique features

If you prefer your smartphone features reeled off to heroic backing music provided by a string quartet, then you should definitely have a gander at LG’s G Flex 2 official introductory video above. Don’t worry, this video is much better than the incredibly odd advert for the original LG G Flex.

In case you missed any of it, the G Flex 2 is packing in some seriously impressive hardware. Between the 1080p flexible display, Android 5.0 Lollipop, and a new high-end 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 SoC, you’re looking at a cutting edge piece of kit. LG has also made some improvements to technologies seen in its previous handsets, including the miraculous self-healing back cover from the original G Flex and a faster camera laser focus system from its flagship G3.

We rather enjoyed our hands on time with the G Flex 2 at this year’s CES. In fact, the smartphone was one of our top picks from CES 2015, awarded for its impressive 1080p curved display, build quality, and cutting edge hardware specs.

Which, if any, of these features have caught your eye, or is the G Flex 2 a tad gimmicky for your tastes?

Could a next-gen LG G Pad 8.3 be on the way for Verizon?

LG G Pad 8.3

A leaked document from Verizon shows a device codenamed “LG-VK815″ listed next to other Verizon Wireless tablets: LG-VK410 and LGV700.

The 815 seems to be a step up of sorts from the original LG G Pad 8.3′s codename, 810. This could be suggesting the 815 is a new G pad tablet coming from Verizon — of course this is all very speculative, but it’s something to keep an eye out for nonetheless.

Android 5.0 Lollipop for the LG G2 is now live in South Korea

A few weeks ago, we got a sneak peek at Android 5.0 Lollipop for the LG G2 and now it appears the software update is now officially rolling out in South Korea. Prior to this, the update was in testing, which is presumably where the leaked footage came from, but the V30D update has been confirmed […]

What we know so far: LG G4

LG G3

Earlier this week, we wrote about some early rumors of the LG G4, the expected flagship from LG for 2015. Those details included the possibilities of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, and a wide-angle 16-megapixel camera. It is also expected to run Android 5.0 Lollipop right out of the box.

Android Pit also excellently rounded up some rumors of the device, which are featured below.

Price

Since the LG G3 is available for 599.99 USD off of contract through Amazon, it is safe to assume that an unlocked LG G4 will cost the same or more at its launch. On contract, we can expect it to go for at least $200.

Design

Korean site Heraldcorp reported that LG (and Samsung) is scaling back on smartphone production. In addition, Phandroid discovered that LG has launched a trademark filing for the G Pen, a new stylus.

This may mean that LG may add a stylus to current and/or future devices as a means to maintain profit while scaling back smartphone production. Android Pit added that this could also be a re-branding of the LG G series in the making. Therefore, the LG G4 could be a direct challenger to the Samsung Galaxy Note 5.

The G3 has a brushed finish on its backside in order to give its plastic a premium appearance. However, the G4 may go for an aluminum body especially since Samsung has already used it for its Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Alpha handsets.

The back of the LG G3

Display

Due to the popularity of the G3’s QHD display, it is safe to assume to expect one with an equal or higher resolution on the upcoming successor. Android Pit doesn’t expect the screen to grow likely because this would make it more difficult for users to reach the rear power and volume buttons.  With rumors of the Samsung Galaxy S6 having a 4K display, LG may not settle for anything less than one on the G4.

LG G3 Display

Software

Android 5.0 Lollipop with LG’s Optimus UI is probably the rumor likeliest to be accurate on this list. Although, it is not far-fetched to believe it will incorporate a fingerprint scanner on the rear next to the controls. Perhaps, the company might even add an eye/retina scanner.

Android 5.0 Lollipop

On the G3, LG offers the option to remove some of the pre-installed applications on the smartphone, which was well received by consumers. Generally, such an action requires root access. Hopefully, it will bring this feature to the G4 with the option to remove any application from the device.

Release Date

LG’s next smartphone should not be expected until at least May of this year. In the previous three years, the G Pro was released on May 10, 2013, and the G3 was released on May 28th, 2014. The G2 was the anomaly. It was released on September 12, 2013.

Specifications

Lastly, Android Pit has reported on two sets of specs so far. The first that is more likely to be confirmed as true has the G4 running the aforementioned Android 5.0 with Optimus UI and a Snapdragon 810/808 clocked at 3GHz. The other specs include:

  • a 5.7-inch, 3840 x 2160p display
  • 3 to 4GB of RAM
  • 32/64GB of internal storage with microSD expansion
  • a 3,500 to 4,000mAh battery
  • a 16MP rear-end camera and a 5.1MP front-facing camera
  • HSPA, 4G, NFC, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi connectivity

The second set, brought to us by wccftech, lists:

  • a Snapdragon 810 processor
  • a 5.3-inch QHD screen
  • a 20.7 MP rear-end camera
  • 4GB of RAM
  • a 3,500mAh battery
  • 32/64GB of internal storage with microSD expansion

As Android Pit has done, we must note that this site does not mention a source and should be taken more lightly than the preceding specs for now.

CES is a tech show that isn’t lacking in TVs. That’s especially true for the major central hall, where you’re never far from the glow of a giant sumptuous TV. It makes choosing the Best TV on show a difficult task, but we got there. LG’s Art Slim 4K OLED took the prize, boasting the beauty of OLED technology, 4K resolutions and a handful of sizes set to go on sale in 2015. Sure, there’s curved and curving options too, but it was the more typical, flat designs that we were drawn to.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 shipments to LG and Xiaomi will still be on schedule

We heard the other day that Samsung could be ditching the latest and greatest processor from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 810, for most of its Galaxy S6 devices. This change in direction was said to be partly due to severe overheating issues that the chip is exhibiting and also because contracted manufacturer, TSMC, is struggling to […]

Sprint Lease program adds Samsung Galaxy Note 4, LG G3

sprint-logo

Bringing home a new device can be expensive. Whether it is paying the full retail price or even signing a contract, a fair amount of money is required. Fortunately, carriers are starting to do what they can to spread costs for customers. The Sprint Lease program provides customers with a new device without any money being paid upfront. Instead, the lease lasts for twenty-four months and customers have a choice to make at the end of it. They can extend the lease with the current device, purchase the current device outright, sign a new lease with a different device, or walk away from Sprint altogether.

Late last year, the program launched with two Samsung devices. Now, another Samsung device as well as one from LG are joining the Sprint Lease program. Leasing the Galaxy Note 4 will cost $25 per month and the LG G3 has a monthly charge of $15. Two devices with impressive specifications will relatively low monthly payments. Not too bad considering the benefits of the Sprint Lease program.

Hit the break for the full press release.

Alleged LG G4 specifications leak, Snapdragon 810 and 16MP camera included

LG_G3_Back_Rear_Controls_LG_Logo_TA

The most anticipated devices to launch in early 2015 will come from Samsung and HTC. However, it seems that LG can be added to the mix. Why? Information involving the LG G4 has been trickling in over the last few weeks. And now we have learned about some of its alleged specifications. Unsurprisingly, the Snapdragon 810 from Qualcomm will be the processor selected. The amount of RAM joining the processor is 3GB. A system dump of the Android 5.0 operating system makes it appear as if a 16MP camera will be included. In all (if true), LG has quite the handset on its hands.

A launch at Mobile World Congress 2015 in March is a possibility for the LG G4.
