Sprint to off the LG G Pad F 7.0 for free on two-year contract on March 13th


LG g pad f 7.0If you’ve been considering adding a tablet to your monthly cellular plan, Sprint will soon be selling LG’s G Pad F 7.0 on a two-year contract. The tablet comes equipped with LTE radios for Sprint’s network and is the first LG tablet that the carrier has offered. The tab is free on a two-year contract, and it runs just $10 a month on Sprint EasyPay.

The G Pad F sports a Snapdragon 410 CPU and a 7-inch IPS display, so while it’s not a top-of-the-line device, it’s not a bad deal for what it costs. With LG’s Q Pair, you can even sync the tablet with any Android phone to mirror notifications like texts and calls to the tablet, so you can effectively replace your phone with this in a pinch.

New Watch Urbane model offers LTE, NFC, but no Android Wear

LG just took the wraps off a new version of the Watch Urbane (itself a version of the G Watch R), but this time changes are more than skin deep. The new Watch Urbane LTE runs LG’s “all new Wearable Platform” OS instead of Android Wear, and offers voice calling, thanks to the integration of LTE.

Watch Urbane LTE looks similar to the “regular” Watch Urbane, with the biggest difference being the presence of three buttons on the side, instead of one, like on the Android Wear model. The top button offers quick access to settings, the middle button switches between the watchface and the app launcher, while the bottom one acts like a back button. Long pressing this last button can be set to trigger a call to a certain number and to send out the wearer’s location coordinates. This safety beacon feature is similar to the one on the kids-focused LG Kizon.

Thanks to cellular connectivity, you can use the Watch Urbane LTE to make phone calls and the device even works in walkie-talkie mode, where Push-To-Talk services are available. Another cool feature of the device is NFC – LG says you will be able to pay for things like movie tickets or transit fares by waving your wrist against an NFC reader, though details are lacking for now.

To accommodate the power-thirsty LTE function, LG packed a 700-mAh battery on the new Urbane, which is significantly larger than the 410-mAh unit on other models. No details were offered, but the Watch Urbane LTE should be good for “long talk and use times and can go for days in standby mode.”

Other than the larger battery, the Watch Urbane LTE features the same specs as the Watch Urbane and G Watch R.

LG is very vague about it, but the Wearable Platform OS powering the Urbane LTE seems to be a version of webOS. In fact, the smartwatch seems very similar to the mystery LG webOS smartwatch that an Audi representative showed to the press at CES. We look forward to see this new incarnation of webOS in action, probably at MWC.

No info yet on price and availability, but we should learn more next week.

LG showcases everything about the phone from the 5.5 inch curved 1080p P-OLED display, powered by the 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, to the durable body and glass that can withstand much more than other phones, including its upgraded self-healing back cover.

LG G3 now receiving Lollipop update in Canada

LG has just started rolling out the much-anticipated Lollipop update to all unlocked variants of the G3, located in Canada. This upgrade brings the latest version of the Android operating system, together with a multitude of new features, bug fixes and stability improvements.

  • New notification options.
  • Longer battery life.
  • Increased security against malware.
  • Automatic device encrytption.
  • Settings for multiple device users.
  • A new quick settings drop-down menu.
  • Improved internet and Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Voice activation when screen is off.

To download the update, make sure you’re connected to a Wi-Fi network. Then, from the home screen, press the Menu key, followed by Settings. Scroll to the bottom and tap ‘About Device’, followed by ‘Software Update and ‘Update Now’.

After unveiling its G Flex 2 at the Consumer Electronics Show last month, LG has today announced that its second-generation curved smartphone has begun its global rollout. The device will be available from major carriers in the United States, Hong Kong, Singapore, France, Germany and the United Kingdom as early as next week.

Just in case you need a refresher on its specs, the G Flex 2 packs a 5.5-inch curved P-OLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 chipset, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of expandable internal storage, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2.1-megapixel front-facing shooter.
