Hey T-Mobile users, check LG Bridge for your LG G4 Marshmallow update

LG is on a roll when it comes to updates, and the latest to join the Marshmallow club is the LG G4 model sold by T-Mobile in the United States.

Following the release of the Android 6.0 to the unlocked G4 sold across Europe, in South Korea, on US Cellular and on Canada’s Telus and Rogers, LG has now made Marshmallow available on the T-Mobile LG G4 (H811) via its PC synchronization software LG Bridge.
Many users have reported being able to update their LG G4 to Marshmallow by connecting their phone via USB to PC and checking for an update manually. Note that an over the air (OTA) update is not yet available and T-Mobile’s support page for the G4 doesn’t yet mention yet the availability of the update.
As with other recent LG devices getting the Marshmallow upgrade, you’re looking at improvements for Knock Code, the implementation of the new app permissions model, a redesigned Silent Mode, Peek mode, and some visual changes.
If you’re into rooting and ROM-ing, the folks over at XDA-Developers already have you covered with a fully stock ROM available for flashing, as well as the necessary rooting methods.
Thanks, Brooke!
LG G5 to be announced February 21st, LG posts confusing marketing material everywhere
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
We’ve known for some time already that LG is planning to hold a press conference at MWC 2016 on February 21st, and while everybody and their dog expected them to announce the LG G5, that fact has been essentially confirmed by the Korean manufacturer themselves. On Twitter yesterday, LG posted a number of photos featuring the number 5 accompanied by the hashtag #LGG5, though the tweet has since been pulled down – clearly somebody was a little trigger-happy.
Since then, LG’s Korean social blog has posted another image, depicting what it calls “LG G5 Day” for February 21st. While this definitely confirms that LG will be announcing the LG G5 at MWC 2016, it’s so very unusual that these two pieces of marketing material depict such a startling difference in tone. The photos are clearly an artistic statement – no doubt an advertisement for the probably fantastic camera – whereas the other image presumably depicts a device that can be considered fun and childish. Who knows what LG is trying to say, but we’ll definitely be finding out in just over two weeks in Barcelona.

PSA: You can download the Marshmallow update on T-Mobile’s LG G4 via LG Bridge
Those who own an LG G4 on T-Mobile’s network can now download Marshmallow through the LG Bridge PC software. Many folks over at Reddit are reporting that they’ve been able to successfully upgrade to Marshmallow through the tool, though status on an OTA update remains to be seen.
T-Mobile has yet to mention anything about the update; however, if you plug in your smartphone and check for an update via the LG Bridge tool, you should be prompted to download the software.
A quick search on T-Mobile’s website says that Marshmallow is in the “Manufacturer Development” process, though that probably isn’t the case anymore. With the update available through the LG Bridge tool, it’s likely that it’s actually in the T-Mobile testing phase, indicating that a full rollout might only be a couple of weeks out.
Again, there’s been no official word from the carrier, but if you’re wanting to get your hands on Marshmallow early, you can grab the LG Bridge PC tool here to start the process. But, if you don’t mind waiting, that OTA is probably not far off.
As a quick refresher, Marshmallow brings some neat feature like Doze, Google Now On Tap, App Permissions, some improved design elements, and much more.
The LG G4 in Canada began receiving the update to Marshmallow earlier this week.
Have you downloaded the update from LG Bridge? Let us know what you think!

New cases surfacing on Amazon reveal LG G5 details
The LG G5 is set to be announced later this month in conjunction with MWC 2016 and the device is expected to bring some big changes to the design of LG’s flagship. One group that looks forward to the release of any new smartphone is accessory manufacturers. This is especially true when there are significant changes that will prevent the use of prior generation accessories as it creates an open market for new sales. Case makers are probably excited to see the new LG G5 launch approach and have already started loading up sites like Amazon with their wares. That is good for us as these listings help reveal what LG has in store for us.
For the LG G5, several sources have indicated the smartphone was getting a new dual-camera setup and the volume rockers were moving around compared to prior generations. Some new cases that are listed on Amazon show us what the new setup is going to look like in some of the clearest images yet and help confirm these rumors.
These listings reveal a pair of camera lenses sitting side-by-side when the phone is held in a vertical position with a pair of dual-LED flashes sitting in between. As part of the camera module, there also appears to be a laser autofocus unit which would be consistent with LG’s past G series and V10 history. Below the camera module is the power button that is believed to double as a fingerprint scanner. The cases also clearly show the volume rocker being moved to the side of the device.

Deal: LG G Flex 2 now going for only $199.99
Despite being released a year ago now, the LG G Flex 2 has actually aged pretty well spec-wise, even when stacked against the newest high-end smartphones of late 2015 and even early 2016. This bad boy definitely performs, and it was one of the first mainstream phones to come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, a processor many of the best phones around still tout.
Now you may have heard some mixed reactions regarding the G Flex 2’s performance, and while many of these claims were quite true in the beginning, software fixes have helped stabilize the phone’s performance substantially. Unfortunately, not without somewhat tarnishing the reputation of what is easily one of the most unique looking phones to come out of 2015. On the bright side, the mixed reception, and the fact the phone is a year old now, means you can get the LG G Flex 2 for a really good price.

Previously the cheapest we’d seen this phone was for around $230 to $250, but Daily Steals is now offering up the device for just $199.99. This is the AT&T version (H950, in black), though it is brand new and fully unlocked for use with other carriers.
Specs include the Snapdragon 810 processor (as mentioned above), 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage, a 5.5-inch 1080p screen, a 13 MP rear camera, a 2.1 MP front shooter and a 3000 mAh battery. Putting things into perspective, you are getting a phone with similar specs to devices like the Droid Turbo 2, but at a price that’s on similar level to devices like the 3rd gen Moto G. In other words, instead of buying an affordable mid-range handset, you could just go with a phone that is a little older, yet still carries the specs that power plenty of current flagship phones.

Tronsmart Titan 10A/90W 5-port USB charger charging station: review
Being a mobile enthusiast is a fun hobby. I find technology vital to staying connected while it helps me be efficient and on task. With that comes the need to charge a wide range of devices. And I can honestly tell you that with different charging specs on tablets, smartphones, smartwatches, speakers and cameras that having the right charger can mean the difference between destroying a battery and staying powered up.
I have been using the Tronsmart Titan 90W Charging Station with five ports to charge up all of my devices lately and I can tell you that I love it. Chargers are more commonplace than any other accessory, but high-quality chargers are a rare breed.
Design
The Tronsmart Titan is a 90W charger with enough power to charge five devices at full speed all of the time. The five port charging station is relatively big for a charger with a decent amount of weight, but really isn’t an issue for me. I don’t like desktop chargers that are so light that they shift around with light movement. It measures 6.25 x 3.25-inches while being about an inch thick and comes in a matte plastic finish with four rubber feet on the bottom.
There are five full USB sized charging ports in the front, with good spacing between them, so you don’t have force fit the five cables right next to each other. The center of each port is colored green which is a thoughtful addition as it makes it easy to see each port against the black plastic.
Each USB port is rated at 18W for a grand total of 90W, and each port comes with smart technology that allows you to charge your latest devices at the fastest speeds, including Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 2.0.
The back of the charger holds the power switch so you can turn the charger on/off and not worry about vampire energy drain which can end up costing you a lot of extra money.
What are Energy Vampires?
Check out this excerpt from energy.gov:
Take, for example, the seemingly innocuous cell phone charger. As cellphones have become a staple of modern life, so have the devices that power them. To ensure that they’re able to be in constant contact, many Americans carry chargers in their bags, have them in their cars and even their office. So it shouldn’t come as much surprise to find that many cell phone users have one or more chargers constantly plugged in at their home. What most people don’t realize is that these chargers are continually drawing power, even when no device is connected to them. In fact, the average charger is consuming .26 watts of energy when not in use, and 2.24 watts even when a fully charged device is connected to it.
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
By themselves, those watts won’t cause a huge increase in your energy bill. But if you add other common devices to the equation, you’ll begin to see why energy vampires are often responsible for adding 10 percent or more to your monthly utility bill.
Usage
I normally don’t think twice when it comes to chargers, but with my recent switch to Nexus devices with USB Type-C, and to unlocked smartphones, having the right charger has never been more important to me. The Tronsmart Titan touts VoltIQ technology which is the brains behind controlling the charging speeds depending on needs. Once you plug in your devices, the VoltIQ smart tech automatically identifies the voltage settings and adjusts charging speeds accordingly to make sure your device does not overheat and overcharge.
I really have no complaints when it comes to using the Tronsmart Titan. It charges all of my USB devices at the proper rate, and it is safe for the most sensitive devices like those with USB Type-C. I use it with my Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Nuu Z8, Samsung Gear S2, Huawei Watch, LG V10, and NVIDIA Shield. It comes with me on all of my business trips in place of bulky individual chargers, and helps me minimize vampire energy drain with a simple flip of the power switch.
Specifications
Input: 100-240V (Max)
Output: 5V/2A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.5A (Max)
Total power:90W
What you will get
1 x Tronsmart UC5F Desktop USB Charger
1 x 5 Foot AC Power Cord
1 x Welcome Guide
Summary
Overall the Tronsmart Titan 90W 5-port USB charger is everything I could want in a desktop charger. It’s smart, safe and charges my devices at the quickest possible speeds. You can find it on sale now at Amazon.com for just $37.99. I highly recommend it.

LG confirms G5 launch date set for February 21

Unsurprisingly, LG has confirmed via Twitter that it will announce its upcoming G5 flagship on Sunday, February 21st (the same day as the Samsung Galaxy S7). LG previously sent out invitations to its press event that will take place at MWC 2016, and later confirmed to CNET that the G5 would be launching at that event. What exactly we’ll see at the event we’re not entirely sure, but we do have a few leaked specs and rumored features that we think will be present on the new device.

Thanks to our exclusive leak a few weeks ago, we know the LG G5 will come in a thinner, taller and wider package, along with a redesigned chassis. It’s expected to come with some notable goodies such as a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 5.6-inch Quad HD display, an iris scanner, a secondary “ticker” display like what’s found on the LG V10, as well as a “Magic Slot” that can be used with different hardware accessories. Other reports have speculated the device could sport a 16MP rear camera, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage.
We won’t be entirely sure what the G5 will bring us until the 21st, so stay tuned as we bring you the best Android coverage at MWC 2016.

LG confirms the G5 for MWC 2016
We now officially know that the LG G5 will debut at MWC 2016. On Twitter and Facebook today, LG posted teasers that explicitly state the G5 is coming on February 21 in Barcelona.
Hit the break for the teasers.

Much of what is expected from the G5 has been disputed, so I’ll just direct you to our LG G5 hub to pick and choose items to explore. Select sources says a 5.3-inch display is coming and others stand by 5.6 inches, but we’re pretty much guaranteed to get Quad HD (2560×1440) resolution and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 processor. It’s also a tossup whether or not the secondary display found on the LG V10 makes its way over to the upcoming flagship.
What’s known for certain, however, is that Samsung will also be hosting a big launch event on February 21. This puts two of the biggest Android OEMs in the world in the same city to show their new flagships within hours of each other. While Samsung’s event is scheduled for 1:00PM ET, LG will be introducing the G5 (and perhaps other new products and services) at 8:00AM ET.

LG will unveil the G5 on February 21st

It’s no secret that LG has something planned for Mobile World Congress this month (it mentioned an event weeks ago), but the Korean tech giant is now making it clear as to what’s up. It’s posting teasers confirming a G5 unveiling just ahead of MWC, on February 21st. Yes, that’s the same day that Samsung announces the Galaxy S7 — unlike last year, LG isn’t waiting until sometime after the big mobile trade show to debut its latest flagship smartphone.
The company is shy on details right now, although history suggests that it’ll dribble out facts to whet your appetite. That isn’t stopping the rumor mill, though. Historically reliable leaker Evan Blass (aka @evleaks) hears that the G5 may borrow a few pages from the V10, including a secondary display, a fingerprint reader and a dual-lens camera (this time, on the back). You might also get a speedier Snapdragon 820 processor, an “all-metal” enclosure and a “Magic Slot” that alters your phone’s functionality through modules. If this is accurate, the G5 definitely won’t be a me-too device.
