LG begins shipping G4 to carriers and retailers later this week
It’s still a couple of weeks or so to go until people begin receiving their leather clad LG G4 smartphones, but in the meantime we can report that the Korean company will begin shipping its latest flagship handset to key markets later this week.
Network providers and retailers in Hong Kong will be the first to receive the G4 handset, followed closely by Turkey, Russia and Singapore. After that, it will be the turn of North America, Europe, CIS, Southeast Asia, Middle East, Africa, Central America and finally South America. All-in-all, the G4 will be available from around 180 carriers and retailers worldwide.
We have most recently seen that the G4 has become eligible to pre-order from Carphone Warehouse (UK) with a shipping date of May 28th, rumours of the handset launching at Verizon Wireless on June 4th, and also becoming available to order via Canada’s WIND Mobile on June 19th. Is the LG G4 your next smartphone? Let us know in the comments below.

Could Verizon’s LG G4 have a June 4 release date?
There’s been a lot of excitement surrounding LG’s flagship device, the G4. Now, according to a press image, its entirely possible that we could see a June 4 launch on Verizon Wireless.
On Verizon Wireless’ update page for the LG G4, the press image of the smartphone shows a data of Thursday, June 4. This is purely speculation, but could this hint at a June 4 release date?
It certainly isn’t confirmed, but in the past, even Google has hinted at various product or software releases through the current time on the press image of a Nexus device.
If it’s truly set for a June 4 launch, there’s no doubt we’ll hear about it sooner than later for pre-orders and such. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Could we see a June 4 launch date for the device? What do you think?

LG kicks off G4 global rollout starting this week

Announced at the end of April, the LG G4 will soon be available in the first markets.
LG announced today that 180 carriers and retailers have signed up to sell the G4 around the world, with the first market set to receive it being Hong Kong. The leather-bound device will go on sale there this week, with Turkey, Russia, and Singapore following next.
Eventually, the G4 will be available in “most of Europe, North America, CIS, Southeast Asia, Middle East/Africa and South/Central America.”
LG is yet to reveal an official price for the device, but thanks to the sweepstakes ran by T-Mobile and Sprint in the US, we suspect the G4 will cost about $600 unlocked. That’s a bit lower than the suggested retail price of the Samsung Galaxy S6 or the HTC One M9, for comparison.
More details should be revealed in local announcements coming this month and in June. In the United States, all four big carriers said they would carry the LG G4, though only Sprint gave a timeframe so far: “June.”
“The LG G4 is our most ambitious smartphone yet because it is unlike any other flagship mobile phone on the market today,” said Juno Cho, CEO of LG. While we can’t entirely agree with that, we do like the G4 a lot. Check out our review.

We think we have a winning formula because the initial reaction to the G4 has been tremendously positive.”
Prices and additional purchase details will be announced locally at time of availability, and may vary by carrier and market.
The LG G4 displays its resilience in twice taken drop test
Smartphones are often quite delicate devices, sometimes the shortest fall can result in the handset being unusable, whether because of a smashed display or scrambled innards. Sadly, every time a new smartphone is released, we get to see it being dropped on the floor, sometimes repeatedly. Today, it’s LG G4‘s turn to be tortured by YouTube user TechRax.
As you can see in the video below, the G4 is dropped twice. The first drop sees the handset hit what appears to be a concrete surface with minimal consequences. The second time the G4 is dropped, its display is facing towards the ground. Needless to say, the display hits the ground first, and the shock waves of the landing separate the rear panel and battery from the handset. As for the display, well it’s shattered to the extent of looking like crazy paving.
What is impressive is the fact that the display still recognizes touch input and functions normally, meaning that the damage is cosmetic and not fatal. It should be said that this is most likely a fluke result, I certainly wouldn’t recommend duplicating the test at home with your own G4. Sadly, I’m sure we will see the LG G4 being drop tested a few more times in the comings days and weeks. The inhumanity of it all.

Could it be? A LG Nexus smartphone is “under consideration at LG”

The Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 have been two of the most popular Nexus devices to date, and many would like to think that manufacturer LG had a lot to do with their popularity. One thing’s for sure: the latest Nexus 6 made by Motorola hasn’t quite reached the same commercial success that its predecessors did and a large part of that was down to pricing, something the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 definitely didn’t have issues with. So when the news dropped today that another LG Nexus smartphone was possible, we had to take a closer look.
Today’s rumour allegedly comes from sources within LG who say that the Korean manufacturer is considering making the 2015 Nexus smartphone. This is decidedly interesting as quite a few rumours about a Nexus smartphone so far have named Chinese manufacturer, Huawei, as the front runner. Whether this is true or not, we’ll never really know until Google drops the bombshell presumably later this year as they have done the last few years. A LG Nexus based on the LG G4 anyone? Here’s to hoping.

LG G4 Mini spotted in Vodafone database
Riding on the buzz generated by their new LG G4 flagship smartphone, the manufacturer is rumored to be preparing a smaller version of the device for the mid-range market. A new listing in a Vodafone database for the Hungarian market appears to confirm this is the case. Although a previous listing on a Dutch site showed the device as the LG G4C, the Vodafone listing has it as the LG G4 Mini.
Sources indicate the LG G4 Mini will sport a 5-inch display, possibly only running at a 720p resolution, and will be powered by a Snapdragon 615 processor. The device is expected to be available this summer, possibly as soon as June in some markets.
The listing has since been taken down by Vodafone.

LG G4 retail price revealed in carrier give-aways

The expected retail price of the LG G4 has been revealed a little early, thanks to a pair of give-aways being run by Sprint and T-Mobile. The handset will cost around $600.00 up front. This isn’t the first time that we’ve seen rough retail prices leak in competition T&Cs, and it probably won’t be the last.
The estimated Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”) of each prize is $600.00. – Sprint
7 LG G4 mobile devices. Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”): $600.00 each – T-Mobile
This leaves the LG G4 looking like it will be marginally less expensive than its flagship rivals, but only by around $50. The closest equivalent Samsung Galaxy S6 with 32GB of memory costs $648, as does the new 32GB HTC One M9 from Sprint.
As for the competitions, both companies are giving customers who pre-register for the LG G4 the chance to win one for free. Sprint is giving away eight free phones, while T-Mobile has 38 up for grabs over four entry periods. You can check out further details from the source links below.
It will be interesting to see if there are any major differences between the contract offers for the G4 and its rivals. Is a $50 saving enough to temp you, or is your money earmarked for another handset this year?
LG G4 trial program comes to Canada, lucky participants will take home their own G4

LG recently launched LG G4 trial programs for the United States and the U.K., giving users in those countries a great opportunity to try out the flagship before everyone else. Now LG is bringing a similar promotion to Canada, allowing some lucky users to test drive the device for four weeks.
If you’re interested in the program, you’ll need to head over to the enrollment page and sign in to your Facebook or Twitter account. Next, you’ll need to explain to LG why you deserve to test drive the device, and that’s it! LG will select 35 lucky participants who will get to use a review device for four whole weeks. Unlike the other two trial programs, though, Canadian participants will have the option to win their very own LG G4 by completing a series of “missions” during their time with the device.

FDP 016: Android M and LG G4
The gang gets together for another episode of the FDP! Yes, we changed the name of the podcast and in the beginning of this spirited conversation the team talks about why it happened. Jonathan Feist, Joseph Hindy, Andrew Grush, and Nirave Gondhia join Joshua Vergara for a longer talk this week as they go through a number of different topics. They think of what the new Android M iteration might be called (and, true to form, Joe comes up with a left-field answer) and then get into what features they would want from the next iteration of Google’s mobile operating system. A talk about the newly reviewed LG G4 rounds out the conversation, including a much needed discussion about how we view good battery life.
