LG G4 Pro specifications spill out early

We all were a little disappointed when LG launched the G4 with Snapdragon 808, a hexa-core processor, instead of the Snapdragon 810. Well, it looks like the Korea tech giant is ready to launch an upgraded version of the LG G4. Rumors are flowing around that LG is all set to bring the LG G4 Pro to the market.

g4

According to the rumors, the LG G4 Pro will come with a 5.8 inch QHD(1440*2560p) Quantum display which we had already seen on the LG G4 and it looks crisp and bright. For RAM , it’s slated to come with 4GB of RAM, which would be more than enough for day to day tasks and high-end gaming. It’s also supposed to have optional 32GB or 64GB of internal memory, which can be further expanded upto 128GB via a micro-SD card. The rear camera is also upgraded, from 16-megapixels to 27-megapixels. The front facing camera is the same 8-megapixel sensor that comes with the LG G4.

The Snapdragon 820 is an interesting choice. As its not ready yet for mass production as Qualcomm mentioned that the very first device using Snapdragon 820 will be out either at the end of this year or early next year. From this perspective, it looks like LG G4 pro is not coming anytime soon.

In my opinion, the specifications seems too good to be true and current owners of the LG G4 will be disappointed if these rumors comes to life. However, these are just rumors and there is no leaked image or video that confirms the same. The official unveil is expected to be sometime in October. LG has released some mightier phones in the recent past and we would love to see what LG hold next.

Best Android phones for taking gorgeous photos [June 2015]

LG_G4_From_NYC_Featured_Large

As much as we tell ourselves that smartphone cameras aren’t suitable for professional photography, manufacturers seem to be adamant on proving that wrong every year. Manufacturers up the ante with their smartphone cameras, bringing professional grade quality to your fingertips.

HTC Desire EYE

HTC_Desire_Eye_Back_Rear_Camera_Dual_LED_Flash_TA

This one gets an honorable mention in our list for packing an insanely large 13MP camera on the front. The back is also accompanied by the same sensor, but with some added software customization. If you’re one for selfies, the Desire EYE has to be an instant choice given the kind of hardware on offer. It also has LED flash paired with both the rear and front-facing cameras, so you can take selfies even in a dimly lit room.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4

Samsung_Galaxy_Note_4_Back_Slanted_Camera_Lens_Heart_Rate_Monitor_ATT_Logo_TA

It’s no secret that the Galaxy Note 4 from Samsung is an excellent multi-featured device as the company has covered all its bases with this 2014 device. There’s a beautiful Quad HD AMOLED display, plenty of storage and the gorgeous 16-megapixel camera sensor on the back which can take incredible pictures and video.

Samsung has used a dedicated optical image stabilization sensor on the smartphone to provide better images even when you’re slightly rushed. Ultimately, the Galaxy Note 4 is an incredible handset and is well worth a look if you want a high-end phone with a camera to rival the best in the market.

Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge

Samsung_Galaxy_S6_Edge_Back_And_Galaxy_Tab_S_Back_TA

Currently rated as the best smartphone(s) camera in the world, the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge offers the best experience as far as mobile cameras are concerned.

The exposure level and the autofocus speed have been praised by the experts, which are some of the most crucial aspects of a mobile camera as most of the images are taken in a hurry. Low light images on the handset are very capable too.

Video quality of the handset has received significant praise as well, so the cameras on the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge have scored very good points overall.

LG G4

LG_G4_From_NYC_03

This might be a bit of a surprise inclusion for many, but from what we’ve seen, the 16-megapixel camera on the LG G4 trumps the competition by a fair margin. In our camera shootout with the Galaxy S6, it was revealed that the sensor on the G4 allows for more manual controls, with the ability to take RAW images by default available as well.

The larger sensor allows for more light to make its way in the images, which is always a good thing, especially in a low light setting. With an aperture size of f/1.8, it is the best mobile camera sensor (at least one paper) to have launched to date.

The LG G4 Pro will allegedly have a Snapdragon 820, 4GB RAM and a 27MP camera

If you thought the LG G4 was lacking a bit for power, then you’ll be happy to hear that it’s bigger brother could be packing lots of it. LG isn’t unfamiliar with the practice of pushing out a larger version of its flagship devices – a la the LG G Pro 2 – so it’s no surprise to hear rumours that the Korean manufacturer is readying a device called the LG G4 Pro that will essentially be a bigger, badder version of the LG G4. Headlining the alleged specifications of the G4 Pro are a Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM and an impressive 27 MP camera which should put any naysayers firmly to bed.

Other notable specs are a 5.8-inch Quad HD display, a 8MP front camera and is allegedly going to have an all-metal body. If all that has got you salivating, you’ll need to keep hydrating because the device isn’t due out till October – at least, that’s what the report says, and of course that’s after taking this news with a grain of salt. It’s definitely a plausible strategy for LG to engage in, so we’ll have to wait and see if any other LG G4 Pro related rumours drop in the near future.

The LG G4 already offers a ton of benefits that many users are clamoring for. Hardware wise it packs a fair amount of power with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, 3GB or RAM, a 5.5 inch 2560 x 1440 display with a 538 ppi and Android 5.1 on board. It is quite a beautiful device. Not to mention the 16MP camera with insane abilities like shooting in RAW format and adjustable shutter speed. Toss in the removable battery, interchangeable back plates and micro SD support (up to 2TBs) and it has the making of being the best handset on the market, in many eyes. At the time of launch LG pushed out a monumental promotion for early adopters of the device and they have now extended the offer a little bit longer.

For those who don’t already know, I’ll tell you all about it. If you picked up an LG G4 you could head over to the LG offers page and type in a little bit of information like proof of purchase and such, and LG would ship you out a spare 3,000 mAh battery with charging cradle for it along with a 32GB micro SD card. The offer crossed all carriers, in the US, and even to Amazon, Best Buy and the likes. Previously you had until June 21st to submit your details to be able to claim the extras, which LG values at $105 worth of goods. Now you have until June 30th. That gives you another 9 days to make up your mind and grab the device.

LG G4 Promotion

If you already picked one up and didn’t know about the promo you might want to dig out your receipt and get your goodies ASAP. Simply direct your browser to LG G4 promotion page.

LG G4 promotion extended – get a free microSD card, spare battery and charger by June 30th

lg-g4-offer-battery-microsd

The LG G4 is an amazing phone for many reasons, but two of its key features are definitely the microSD card slot and removable battery. These are characteristics most smartphone manufacturers have been doing away with, despite users begging to keep them on board. This is why the Korean manufacturer decided to highlight these now-rare features with its G4 promotion, which has just received a time extension.

Let’s refresh your memory about this awesome offer, just in case you have forgotten about it. Any LG G4 buyer has the chance to get a free 32 GB microSD card, spare battery and a charging cradle for said battery ($105 value). They just have to offer proof of purchase and fill out a form before June 21st. It made buying an LG G4 pretty much a no-brainer for many of our readers, and now more of you can join the festivities.

lg g4 review aa (18 of 34)

Life is Good with LG, as they have just decided to extend the offer period until June 30th. So if you were thinking about purchasing the phone a little later and were worried you would no longer be able to take advantage of this, you can rest assured knowing you have at least a little more time to get your new handset.

Do keep in mind this promotion is still limited to the US, but it does cover both carrier and retailer purchases (including Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, Sam’s Club, Target, Walmart and other authorized dealers). You should be in the clear. Just go ahead and take care of the form, which is at LG’s official offer page. It needs to be turned in by July 14th. If you are submitting it by snail mail (seriously?!), the letter has to be postmarked by the same date, and it has to get to LG’s facilities by July 21st.

Those of you who are on the fence about buying the device should definitely go ahead and check out our full LG G4 review. It’s one hell of a phone, and we have a lot to say about it.

LG G4 will come with an extra battery and microSD card until June 30

LG-G4-campaign-promotion-june-30

LG announced today that they are continuing the promotion where the company is giving away an extra battery and microSD card with the purchase of an LG G4 until June 30.

Keep in mind that this promotion extension is specifically for the United States. The promotion was originally set to end on June 21.

If anything, this campaign is subtle jabs at other manufactures that have gone the way of Apple, refusing to offer support for external storage and a battery replaceable by the user.

While it’s sad to see external storage slowly become extinct on flagships, the battery issue isn’t much of a problem, considering that charging technology is getting better and better.

Click here to view the embedded video.

Either way, consumers still get to reap the rewards of LG’s campaign until June 30. Are you picking up LG’s latest flagship?

The LG G3 may not be updated to Android 5.1, skip straight to Android M

Many of you will know that I own a LG G3, so excuse me if I get a little emotional during this post. News is circulating today that the LG G3 may not be updated to Android 5.1 after being updated from Android KitKat to Android 5.0 not long after Google’s official unveiling of Android Lollipop. It seems relatively legitimate news after comments made by LG on the LG Greece Facebook page said that there were no plans to bring Android 5.1 to the LG G3. Bummer.

Of course, this might just mean that LG is skipping Android 5.1 in favour of Android M, the next verison of Android due for release later this year – however given the state of the LG G3 right now on Android 5.0, I’m a bit disappointed that LG isn’t going to try and fix some of the more crippling problems like instability and battery drain that some users are experiencing. It’s especially unusual since the work has already been done for the LG G4 which ships with Android 5.1. All the same, we’ll take this news with a grain of salt just in case LG Greece just meant that devices in that region shouldn’t be expecting an update (sorry, Greece!).

What do you think about the news the LG G3 may not be updated to Android 5.1? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

LG G4 allegedly plagued by touchscreen issues

lg g4 review aa (24 of 34)

Our LG G4 review was very positive, and most of our readers agree that this is the best smartphone of 2015 so far. Needless to say we love the device here at Android Authority, but that doesn’t mean LG’s latest flagship smartphone is perfect. In fact, it seems the device may be plagued by touchscreen bugs.

A recent onslaught of LG G4 touchscreen issue reports inspired XDA Developers senior user liamR (who is also experiencing this problem) to create a forum post touching on the matter. The matter in question is that the phone seems to dismiss quicker taps and swipes, which is not standard when it comes to smartphone performance.

lg g4 review aa (19 of 34)

This is not only a problem during day-to-day usage, but it can murder one of the hottest features the LG G4 touts. This would be Knock On (and Knock Code). Definitely a cumbersome situation for LG G4 users, but not everyone seems to be affected by it.

The guys at XDA Developers also conducted a poll and so far 40.21% of the 194 participants have reported no issue at all. That also means nearly 60% of the voters did find a problem, though, and that is a significant number! By the way, 27.32% of voters reported having issues while using no screen protector, so we really can’t blame those.

Are you having problems?

Some of us at Android Authority have been using the LG G4 and have found no problems so far, but maybe you are. You can check your touchscreen performance by following these steps:

  1. Open the Dialer and enter 277634#*# to enter the Service Menu.
  2. Go to Device Test -> Service Menu – Manual Test -> Touch Draw Test – Manual.
  3. Now touch/tap/knock/slide on the test area (all of it) until its almost full and watch for missing registration (you will touch the screen and there will be no red mark). I repeated the test several times and almost every time I had misses.

lg g4 review aa (5 of 34)

Please do let us know in the comments if you have encountered any issues. This seems to be more than just a slight manufacturing mistake, so we would love to hear more from users and get to the bottom of this.

Let’s just pray this is simply a software issue and LG can fix it soon. I have gone ahead and reached out to LG for a statement. Hopefully we can get a response soon. Until then, sound off in the comments and share your experiences!

LG Quick Circle Case

lg-g4-quickcircle-case-official-1-lg-qcsg4

Launched as an official accessory alongside the G4, the newest Quick Circle Case from LG replaces the phone’s back cover and adds some extra functionality to the device. The case works in conjunction with a pre-installed Quick Apps application on the G4, which allows users to customize what’s shown through the circular opening on the front of the case. Along with the added functionality of the “quick circle”, these cases also enable Qi wireless charging on the device. At just under $50, these are some of the most expensive cases for the G4, though we imagine the added functionality will be worth it to users.

You can pick up an LG G4 Quick Circle Case from eBay in 5 different color options, though they won’t be officially available for a few more weeks.

The Mophie Juice Pack Case for the G4 is currently on pre-order, but the Mophie team says they’ll ship out in late June. You can pre-order your case now for $99.95.
