LG_G2_Back_Camera_Lens_Power_Volume_Buttons_TA

Starting today, T-Mobile customers with the LG G2 will begin to receive a software update. It unsurprisingly is for Lollipop. The carrier says that the update will take place between April 14 and May 22, but we assume everyone will be updated fairly quick. The changelog issued by T-Mobile only states that Android 5.0 Lollipop is among the new features.

Let us know in the comments when you receive the over-the-air (OTA) update.

Lollipop is rolling out to the AT&T LG G2 today

lg-g2-front-left copy

Not more than a few hours ago, we told you that T-Mobile’s LG G2 was beginning to see Lollipop. Whether it’s a coincidence or not, AT&T has also started pushing out the Lollipop update to its version of the G2. The update, which will bring your software version up to D80020y, weighs in at 721MB.

Android 5.0.1 Lollipop will bring a number of notable changes, both aesthetic and under the hood. Once you update your device, you’ll notice a cleaned up notification panel, new Settings menu and updated Lollipop-style softkeys to coincide with the other enhancements Google’s Material Design brings to the table. A bevy of performance enhancements are also present in the update, including the switch to the Android Runtime (ART), and new security features like Smart Lock. Among others, you’ll also see a new Priority Notifications mode and actionable lock screen notifications. AT&T also says the following applications will be removed along with the update: Browser Bar, Famigo, AT&T Code Scanner and Beats Music.

This update is just beginning to roll out today, so it might be a few days until you see it come to your phone. If you’d like to check manually, you can do so by heading to System settings>General>About phone>Software information>Check now. Be sure to let us know in the comment section when you get the update!

Verizon LG G2 gets Android 5.0 Lollipop, ahead of the G3

LG-g2-1

While LG G3 owners on Verizon’s network are still rocking KitKat, owners of its predecessor are in for a pretty sweet treat starting today. That’s right, Android 5.0 Lollipop is now rolling out to Big Red’s LG G2.

The new software is dubbed version VS98039A, and with it comes a number of improvements such as an improved notification panel, Lollipop style navigation buttons, searchable settings, and more. Even the aesthetics have been revamped a bit with this update, but it’s not Lollipop’s Material Design changes that we’re seeing. Instead, the LG G2 is being upgraded to a new flatter, minimalist design that is in line with the custom UI found on the LG G3.

For full update notes, you’ll want to head over to Verizon’s website. Keep in mind that the update is just starting to roll out, so it may be hours, days or even weeks before it reaches your device. Anyone receive the update yet? If so, what do you think so far?

LG India says the G2 will get Lollipop next quarter

LG_G2_Front_Bottom_LG_Logo_TA

Quite a few devices are still without Lollipop, leaving consumers frustrated with the waiting. The LG G2, released in 2013, is one of the devices still without the latest version of Android; however, the wait may not be much longer.

On Twitter, LG India confirmed that a software update with Lollipop is coming in the second quarter of 2015. That means owners of the G2 located in India can expect Lollipop by the end of June. Elsewhere, such as the United States, we still do not know when Lollipop is coming.

Deal: LG G2 for just $189.99, unlocked

att-lg-g2

With the LG G4 not too far off from announcement, the G2 is surely starting to look a bit dated, but don’t let its age fool you, the year and a half old handset is still more than capable of providing a solid Android experience. For those that don’t need the latest and greatest, Ebay seller qualitycellz is offering up a new factory unlocked AT&T version of the LG G2 for $189.99 with free shipping.

If the seller’s name sounds familiar, that’s because we’ve written about some of their deals on devices like the One M8 and Galaxy Alpha in the past. While buying phones on Ebay can sometimes be a bit risky, qualitycellz is a well-known seller with over 67,000 feedback, 99% of which is positive.

As a refresher, the LG G2 is powered by a Snapdragon 800 with 2GB RAM, has a 5.2-inch 1080p display, 32GB storage, a 3000 mAh battery and currently runs KitKat — though a Lollipop update shouldn’t be too far off. Not sure if the LG G2 is right for you? Be sure to check out our original review.

For sub-$200 you’ll be hard-pressed to find a handset with these kind of specs and performance, putting aside the device’s age and the fact that the phone’s days of future update support are likely coming to an end. Anyone planning on picking this one up at this price?
