LG Urbane arrives to Google Store, G Watch R and Moto 360 prices slashed down

The LG Watch Urbane is one of the latest Android Wear watches to hit the market, and now it has arrived to the Google Store as well! Sporting a 1.3 inch P-OLED display with Gorilla Glass 3, and coming in your choice of Rose Gold or Silver body, the LG Urbane is one of the best looking Android Wear watches we’ve seen so far.
At $349 on the Google Store, the LG Urbane is the same price as the lowest end Apple Watch. For your money, this watch comes with the latest specs, offering 512 MB of RAM and a 1.2 GHz processor and coming stock with the new Android 5.1.1 software, the first watch to receive the update. To go along with the software update, it is also the first to be able to take advantage of the Wi-Fi chip that is built-in, alongside Bluetooth 4.0.
Meanwhile, if $349 is a bit too much money to be placed into a smartwatch, a few older Android Wear watches had their prices cut down. The G Watch R is now $249 from $299 and the Moto 360, which was for a while on the high end of smartwatches, is now only $179 from $249. In addition to these price cuts, both watches are slated to receive the Android 5.1.1 update. While the G Watch R will not have Wi-Fi capabilities due to hardware limitations, the Moto 360 will be able to connect to Wi-Fi.

With the Smartwatch market growing at a very fast rate, the LG Urbane will have tough competitio, namely the Huawei Watch which features a Sapphire Crystal display. There is no doubt that the LG Urbane is a top contender currently. One concern with smartwatches in general, however, is the duration of support. It does not seem likely that people will be inclined to buy a new watch every year or two, as they are with phones. It is up to Google and device manufacturers to determine how long a watch will receive updates.

LG announced earlier this week that its latest smartwatch, the LG Watch Urbane, was going to launch this week in Korea, and it has now done so overnight. Hosted on the Google Play Store, we’re now finally able to see what this new premium smartwatch from LG is going to cost, and surprisingly it doesn’t look like the premium-marketed smartwatch is going to break the bank. In equivalent US dollar terms, LG’s last smartwatch, the LG G Watch R, launched at about $332 and the LG Watch Urbane is going to cost a little more at $365. Whether that same difference in pricing carries over when it crosses the oceans is anybody’s guess, but it’s certainly not so much more that it makes it inaccessible to the average Android enthusiast.
As mentioned in LG’s announcement a few days ago, the LG Watch Urbane will be the first Android Wear device to get the latest update which introduces a spate of great new features including Wi-Fi support, which will allow your phone and watch to stay connected as long as your watch maintains a Wi-Fi connection and your phone has a mobile data connection. We’re interested to see how the watch is actually received when people start getting it into their hands so stay tuned.

LG has today announced that the LG Watch Urbane will be the first Android Wear device to receive and be sold with the latest Android Wear update that we detailed a few days ago. Not to be confused with the similarly named LG Watch Urbane LTE which doesn’t run Android Wear, the LG Watch Urbane will start being sold this week in LG’s native Korea, gradually rolling out in other markets including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Spain, the UK and the US, and it will be available right from the Google Play Store. There’s still been no word on pricing, but we’d be surprised if it got much more than $300 USD, which is pushing it in this current wearable climate.
For those who have forgotten what the LG Watch Urbane is all about (including us), it’s LG latest Android Wear device which incorporates a stainless steel body with genuine leather strap for LG’s most premium smartwatch yet. Inside, though, it’s almost identical to LG’s previous two smartwatches, the LG G Watch and LG G Watch R, though LG is touting two new features available only on the Urbane including LG Call and LG Pulse, the former for making calling easier and the latter for much more accurate fitness tracking.

Press Release
PREMIUM LG WATCH URBANE FIRST NEW
ANDROID WEAR DEVICE TO FEATURE LATEST OSElegantly Designed Smartwatch Rolls Out Worldwide
With Latest Technology and Performance
SEOUL, Apr. 23, 2015 ― LG Electronics (LG) will begin the global rollout of its premium LG Watch Urbane this week in South Korea to be followed by key markets in North America, Europe and Asia in the weeks to come. Customers in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States will be able to purchase the LG Watch Urbane on Google Store starting this month. At MWC 2015, the LG Watch Urbane received numerous awards and accolades from consumers, media and industry thought leaders for its modern design, full-circle Plastic OLED (P-OLED) display and overall usefulness. The LG Watch Urbane carries over the 1.3-inch P-OLED display from the LG G Watch R but features a less prominent and lower profile bezel. Its dimensions are smaller overall and thinner, without reducing the size of the display or the battery. Responding to consumers’ desire for style as well as function, the LG Watch Urbane has a full metal body with a stitched genuine leather strap. The stainless steel body is available in a luxurious polished rose gold and silver, accentuated further with a narrow bezel that gives the device the sleek lines of a classic timepiece. Unlike many other competing smartwatches, the band can be exchanged with any replacement 22mm leather, silicone or metal strap for the ultimate in convenience and personalization.
LG Watch Urbane is the first new smartwatch powered by the latest version of Android Wear which works seamlessly with smartphones running Android 4.3 and above. Some of the features available for the first time on any Android Wear device include Wi-Fi connectivity, always-on apps to keep the display from going dark when running, navigating or even grocery shopping and an improved UX that makes launching favorite apps and getting in touch with friends easier than ever before with everything now front-and-center.
The latest OS allows users to send emojis by drawing them directly on the LG Watch Urbane. Draw a smiley face, a clock showing a certain time or any other pictures and Android Wear will match your drawing to the closest Unicode emoji for sending to another Android Wear watch, smartphone, or computer. Other improvements include the ability to change the font size and see notifications even when looking at another function on the display, such as directions. What’s more, the screen on the LG Watch Urbane can now be set to lock automatically when it is removed from the wrist.
Included in LG Watch Urbane are two new and useful features not available on other Android Wear devices: LG Call and LG Pulse. LG Call allows the wearer to access recent calls and the favorite contacts list on the connected smartphone to dial out directly from the watch. When connected to a Bluetooth headset, there is no need to remove the phone from one’s pocket to place a call. And LG Pulse takes health monitoring to a whole new level by measuring the wearer’s heart rate every second during exercise with no maximum time limit. At the end of the activity, LG Pulse will report the average heart rate over the entire duration of the activity and display a heart rate graph on LG Health (coming soon).
“The LG Watch Urbane is the third Android Wear device introduced by LG in the past year which demonstrates our commitment to this platform,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “More importantly, LG Watch Urbane is a perfect example that Android Wear watches can be functional and beautiful and a useful accessory that complements any wardrobe. No one would mistake LG Watch Urbane for a computer on your wrist.”
Price and additional purchase details will be announced locally at the time of availability.

AT&T has already confirmed it will sell the LG Urbane

With the days counting down until Apple’s presumed Watch press event, the fever pitch for wearables is about to reach an explosive high. LG, having already tested its hand with both the Android Wear-launch G Watch and subsequent LG G Watch R (the platform’s second circular smartwatch), is set to release the upcoming LG Urbane, and AT&T has wasted no time in announcing it will be selling the non SIM-smooching device.
While pricing, availability, and additional details are to be forthcoming at a future time, the fact that a major US carrier has already committed to this fascinating new product’s release can only mean good things are in store for LG. It’s highly likely that in the coming hours, days, and weeks, more carriers will jump on-board.

- 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor
- 512MB of RAM

LG releases a new ad for the LG Watch Urbane showing off different straps and watch faces
Last week, LG announced its latest smartwatch device, the LG Watch Urbane, and unlike its previous two smartwatches, this one was targeted squarely at the high, premium end of the scale. This much is obvious when LG offers only a silver or gold option for the device – a smartwatch for the fashion conscience, to be sure. Today, […]

Android Wear 5.0.2 update now being sent out to the Samsung Gear Live and the LG G Watch R
Manufacturers are said to be rolling out the Android Wear 5.0.2 update to a series of smartwatches today. As of now, users of the the LG G Watch R as well as the Samsung Gear Live are reportedly seeing the update notifications on their devices.
The Moto 360 started receiving the update yesterday, so we expect the likes of the ASUS ZenWatch, Sony SmartWatch 3 and the LG G Watch to get the update subsequently.
Android 5.0.2 mostly introduces bug fixes, so don’t expect any visual changes post the update. The update modifies Google Play Services along with bringing performance enhancements to the devices.
It will arrive over the air (OTA) and will require your wearable to have at least 80% of battery before proceeding. Are you seeing the update on your LG G Watch R or the Samsung Gear Live yet? Let us know below.

An LG G Watch R owner sanded down his watch and it looks awesome
The LG G Watch R made waves after its announcement, largely due to its round display and premium build quality. In our full review of the device, we said the watch featured a fantastic build quality and a beautiful design. However, that may not be the case for some people. At least, it wasn’t the case for a certain LG G Watch R owner.
On his Google+ profile, Anthony B posted pictures of his G Watch R that’s been sanded down to remove the black paint. And paired with his metal watch band, the combination looks really nice. Now, I’m absolutely not telling you to go out and do this to your own G Watch R. Once you start sanding it down, there’s no turning back. Modifying products like this can always provide mixed results, so if you’re going to try it, be careful! If you are interested in doing it, however, just note that the above image shows some scrapes and scratches from the sandpaper, so you may want to take that into consideration before you do something this drastic.
But if you don’t want to modify your watch, LG just announced the LG Watch Urbane, a new Android Wear-powered smartwatch that gives off a similar look to the sanded down G Watch R.
So, what do you think? Do you prefer this design over the plan black look?
LG is bringing a stylish new smartwatch to MWC, the LG G Watch Urbane

We recently discussed wearables, smartwatches in particular, in our Friday Debate podcast and post. One of our shared opinions what that current Android Wear and wrist bound devices could use a little design makeover. It seems LG felt the same way already, we are hearing that they will have a new, classy watch headed to MWC in March, the LG Watch Urbane.
At first glance, the LG Watch Urbane appears to take the basic rounded design of the LG G Watch R, and glam it up a bit. We’re told it is a full metal design, save the watch-face itself, and can accept any 22mm band of your choosing.

Rounding out the specs list, expect the same internals as the G Watch R, a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 SoC, 512MB of RAM, 4GB internal storage, that 1.3-inch rounded display and sensors including accelerometer, barometer, compass and heart rate sensor. A 410mAh battery should keep the lights on for a day, hopefully. The LG G Watch Urbane will also be dust and water resistant.
Keeping things running, the LG G Watch Urbane will ship with the Android Wear operating system, Google’s home-grown OS for wearables.

We’ll be at Mobile World Congress in March to see LG’s new watch, and a large list of other exciting new devices in action. Sadly, we may have to wait until then to learn more about the LG G Watch Urbane, including pricing and availability.
What do you say, would you purchase the LG G Watch Urbane, the full-metal luxury variant of the G Watch R?
LG WATCH URBANE MELDS CLASSIC LOOK WITH ENHANCED FEATURES
Elegant, Full Metal Smartwatch from LG Coming to MWC 2015
SEOUL, Feb. 16, 2015 ― LG Electronics (LG) will unveil its first all-metal luxury Android Wear device, LG Watch Urbane, at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2015. As its name suggests, the smartwatch is designed for a sophisticated and cosmopolitan wearer that delivers unparalleled technology and performance. LG Watch Urbane is the perfect device for wearers looking to add both style and high-tech flare to their everyday lives.
The LG Watch Urbane follows closely in the footsteps of the LG Watch R, the first smartwatch with a full circular Plastic OLED (P-OLED) display, which LG launched in October 2014. While the LG Watch R was designed with the active user in mind, the LG Watch Urbane is more formal with a thinner profile making it perfect for either men or women. Resembling a luxury timepiece, LG combined a classic design and innovative features to add style and convenience to everyday life while raising the already high standards set by its predecessor.
The LG Watch Urbane is crafted around the same 1.3-inch full circle P-OLED display as the LG Watch R but features a narrower bezel that gives it sleeker lines. The LG Watch Urbane has all of the hallmarks of a fine watch, making it the perfect fashion accessory. Its stainless steel body is available in polished silver and gold finish and is complemented by a beautifully stitched natural leather strap for a more classic look. The strap can be replaced with any 22mm wide band to suit the occasion or the wearer’s mood. Powering all of this is an intuitive touch-based user interface that makes the LG Watch Urbane compatible with smartphones running Android 4.3 and above.
Like the G Watch R, LG’s latest Android Wear device includes a photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor that can measure a wearer’s heart rate and average pulse during exercise. Always-On ambient mode shows the time on the display at all times in dimmed mode, saving battery life.
“The LG Watch Urbane’s classic design and smart features make it the perfect smartwatch to complement our G Watch and G Watch R, which were designed as more casual and active devices,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “LG Watch Urbane is an important part of our strategy to develop wearable devices that are worn and viewed as everyday accessories, not electronic gadgets.”
Additional details including price will be announced in local markets at the time of availability.

Upwards of 720,000 Android Wear devices shipped in 2014

Android Wear became available to the masses last year after Google released the LG G Watch and the Samsung Gear Live at Google I/O last year. According to a new report from Canalys, Google’s wearable platform has been getting off to somewhat of a rough start. The report states that a little over 720,000 Wear devices shipped in the year 2014, which accounts for around 16% of the 4.6 million “smart wearable bands” sold last year.
While we don’t have any specific numbers, the report states that the Motorola Moto 360 was the “clear leader” among Android Wear vendors, despite the watch’s supply constraints in Q4. Additionally, LG’s G Watch R performed better than the original LG G Watch. We also saw the launch of the ASUS ZenWatch and the Sony SmartWatch 3, but again, no numbers were given on individual sales.
A spokeswoman for Google told The Wall Street Journal:
With six unique watches on the market (round and square), a growing collection of watch faces, and thousands of apps created specifically for Android Wear, our team and developers are helping users wear what they want.
Perhaps the problem with Android Wear isn’t with the OS itself, but that consumers just don’t know why they need a smartwatch. If that message can get through to shoppers, we could see a huge growth in the platform through 2015.

For comparison, the biggest wearable competitor for Android Wear is Pebble, which has shipped upwards of one million units of the original Pebble and Pebble Steel since its launch back in 2013. With the upcoming Apple Watch launch in April and wearable announcements from HTC and other major OEMs, there’s no telling how many Android Wear devices will be sold this year.
