Is this the next Huawei Nexus?
We have heard a lot about Huawei making the next Nexus phone, but now a new video has surfaced showing an unamed prototype by Huawei.
The video is not very clear, but from what we can tell it seems to have a random square that is possibly a finger print reader. To be fair it doesn’t actually have the Huawei logo anywhere on it and could be a prototype phone from any manufacture. We are only assuming it’s from Huawei based off of what we have been told.
There is a word written on the back of the bottom, but I can not make out what it says. If you can please leave it in the comments below.

Purported Huawei Nexus gets shown off on candid camera
Yesterday, the specs were leaked for the two of the most highly anticipated devices of the year. The LG Nexus 5 (2015) and the Huawei Nexus specs were leaked to the world via GizmoChina. Today, we may have our first looks at what the Huawei Nexus will look like thanks to Steve Hemmerstoffer on YouTube.
In the video, the screen doesn’t turn on, and there are is no branding that can be seen, however, this video adds more fuel to the fire. The Huawei Nexus is expected to have a fingerprint scanner, which is clearly visible via the back, right below the protruding camera.
The video is only 10 seconds long, but if this is really the Huawei’s take on the Nexus, it’s going to fit right in along side the huge Nexus 6. So only time will tell if this is the real deal. In terms of the specs, GizmoChina stated yesterday that the Huawei Nexus would sport the following goodies, under the hood:
- 5.7″ WQHD Amoled Display
- Metal Uni-body Design
- 21-megapixel Sony IMX230 sensor
- Rezence/WiPower Wireless Charging
With these leaks coming more and more frequently, it’s only a matter of time before we get to see the real deal in all its Nexus glory, before it’s ready to hit prime time. Let us know what you think about the rumored Huawei Nexus, as well as the rumored Nexus 5 (2015) in the comments below.

Is this a prototype Huawei Nexus?

For the past month, we’ve heard rumours suggesting that Google was planning two Nexus handsets for later this year and was working with LG and Huawei to make the two handsets. LG’s Nexus is expected to be the lower spec version of the two and today, we’re getting a first glimpse of what might be a prototype Huawei Nexus smartphone.
The video in question comes from Steve Hemmerstoffer, the man behind the @onleaks account, who has a pretty decent track record when it comes to leaking as-yet unannounced smartphones. Based on the design of past handsets, the Huawei Nexus definitely looks like it has been designed by Chinese manufacturer Huawei but does seem to sport a matte rear cover like the Ascend Mate 7 and Huawei Honor 7.

One of the features in Google’s upcoming Android M operating system is native support for fingerprint readers and it’s unsurprising to see the Huawei Nexus sport one on the rear, underneath the camera like Huawei’s previous handsets and future Nexus devices are also likely to have the feature. The camera sensor also looks similar to that found on the Nexus 5 and doesn’t sport the design traditionally used by Huawei in its smartphones.
The Huawei Nexus is expected to also be a first for Huawei thanks to its Quad HD display, which should be accompanied by a large battery, pure Android experience and a Snapdragon 820 processor. The LG Nexus on the other hand is expected to have lesser specs but should still have a smaller Full HD panel, an octa-core processor with 2GB/3GB RAM and possibly a 13MP camera, like the one found in the Nexus 6 and Motorola Moto G.

Samsung and LG now make up for 78% of all USA Android sales

Apple’s iOS sales continue to drop in the USA as a couple Android manufacturers take control over the market. Yes, you heard that right – a couple. We say this because Samsung is no longer the only big Android player in the USA; in fact, their numbers have been dropping. On the other hand, “Life is Good” for LG, which has been growing by massive proportions.
According to the latest sales data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech, the USA market is not as varied as Europe’s and Asia’s. Two Android manufacturers rule here (Samsung and LG), owning about 78% of all Android mobile sales during Q2 of 2015.

This may not be a huge accomplishment for Samsung, but it is for the other Korean phone maker. LG’s sales have doubled… again. Today also marks a special milestone in LG’s road, as they managed to get more first-time smartphone buyers than Samsung.
“While the Android ecosystem in Europe and China continues to offer several brands to choose from, Android in the U.S. is undergoing its strongest consolidation yet, with Samsung and LG now accounting for 78% of all Android sales. LG is the real success story of the quarter. Not only did it double its share of the U.S. smartphone market once again, but it was also able, for the first time, to acquire more first-time smartphone buyers than Samsung.” -Carolina Milanesi, chief of research at Kantar Worldpanel ComTech
Obviously, the report will seem like great news for LG, Samsung and Android fans in the USA, but we have to step back and look at what’s going on in our market. We have a duopoly going on in the Android ecosystem, at least in the USA. Choice doesn’t look so varied once you look at other major markets. Manufacturers like Apple, Huawei and Meizu have been growing elsewhere. In fact, Meizu grew a stunning 700% when compared to Q2 of 2014!
Of course, Meizu, Xiaomi, Huawei and OnePlus are only brands you will see in Asia for now (at least at larger scales), but they are coming, guys. We have put together a neat list of up-and-coming manufacturers that we believe will change our world once (and if) they enter the US market. We need a change, as well as more variety, and I believe it’s coming from these Asian “small timers”. Would you agree?
LG and Huawei Nexus get another leaked specs treatment
We’re all impatiently waiting to know what the Nexus duo this year will be all about. Thankfully hot devices are prone to gossip, in the form of alleged specs, to keep our anticipation at bay. Today, GizmoChina may have given us a clearer picture of both the LG and Huawei Nexus, depending on how much salt you like to take with your rumors.
LG Nexus 5 (2015)
The more one-handed-friendly LG Nexus 5 successor is said to have a slightly larger display, at 5.2″. It will sport a modest 1080P resolution (completely reasonable at this display size) and a P-OLED panel, which isn’t too far-fetched considering LG’s past use of the plastic-based screen technology. Powering it will be the Snapdragon 620, succeeding the current Snapdragon 615 with more powerful Cortex A72 cores.
Some may question the mid-range processor, but bear in mind that this Nexus will continue the budget tradition that was once lost. The price is targeted around the $300 price-point, like the original Nexus 5.
But wait, there’s more! The rear camera is said to use a Sony IMX278 sensor with f/1.8 aperture lens and laser autofocus. The fingerprint scanner will be integrated on the rear power button. There were also be front-facing stereo speakers, which is unlike LG. Google may have pushed front speakers to be standard after the Nexus 6.
Other juicy specs include: 4GB of RAM (DDR3), up to 64GB of internal storage, a 3,180 mAh battery, USB Type-C with QuickCharge 2.0, wireless charging, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.2.
If all these specs are true, at that $300 price-point, this will be the deal of the century.
Huawei Nexus
We know that the Huawei Nexus will be the larger device. GizmoChina confirms the 5.7″ screen size. The display is said to use WQHD resolution (same as QHD, 2560 x 1440) and an AMOLED panel.
The rear camera will have Sony’s new IMX230 sensor, the same sensor debuting on Sony’s new smartphone lineup. There’s no word if Huawei is including the hybrid autofocus or 192-point phase detection autofocus that Sony touted with the sensor.
One neat feature will be Qualcomm’s Rezence/WiPower wireless charging. The Huawei Nexus is said to be of a metal unibody design, and we’ve known that metal phones haven’t been able to utilize wireless charging. WiPower is Qualcomm’s solution for this.
And of course, the Huawei Nexus is expected to include all the other goodies stated for the Nexus 5, such as USB Type-C and a fingerprint scanner. There’s no word on the pricing.
If these specs are accurate, are your expectations satisfied? Stay tuned to hear more as we get closer to the release!

Huawei’s next Honor device may have a sliding camera

Huawei’s Honor sub-brand may have only announced its new Honor 7 smartphone a few weeks ago but the company is already working on the next device but this will have one key difference. Past Huawei devices in general have always had relatively large bezels above the display but to curb this, the next Honor handset could use a sliding camera.

A trip to Chinese certification authority TENAA has revealed the unique camera placement of the camera and essentially, the design means a single unit will house both rear and front cameras. The rear camera will be accessible at any time but to use the selfie camera, you’ll need to slide the assembly upwards by pressing a dedicated hardware button on the left hand side.

Based on the images from TENAA, it seems that the strategy might pay off as the bezel above the screen does look a lot smaller than on recent Huawei devices. The feature will also add a dual camera flash for both cameras and especially for selfies, this could definitely be a powerful feature when paired with a large camera.
The dedicated button could also be used for a fingerprint sensor with the handset pictured – which is known simply as ATH-AL00 – likely to sport one that’s embedded into the button. Both the Ascend Mate 7 and last month’s Honor 7 have a fingerprint reader on the back and a change to an embedded button could also signal a sign of things to come in future devices. Like past Honor devices, the handset will have a secondary slot that can house either a microSD card for expandable storage or a nanoSIM card for dual SIM functionality and will be powered by Huawei’s own Kirin chipset.
Huawei ATH-AL00 passes through TENAA, features a unique sliding camera system
Over the years, we have seen Chinese manufacturers come out with some interesting innovations in the camera department. The Huawei ATH-AL00 is a new device that does just that.

The Huawei ATH-AL00 is a part of the Honor lineup received certification from TENAA. Interestingly, the pictures show a camera setup that looks very unfamiliar to the eye. The new design connects both the front and rear cameras in a sliding pod. The rear camera and dual LED flash look just like any other smartphone, but to use the front-facing camera the unit must be pushed upward in order to show the front-facing camera and flash. We have seen similar innovations in the camera department, for example the camera(s) on the Oppo Nx and Huawei Honor 6 Plus. Unfortunately, TENAA didn’t include a list of specifications for the device.
Hopefully, Huawei has something up its sleeve with this new setup that will boost camera quality instead of just having cool looks. The leak from TENAA also shows a camera shutter button located on the side of the device, and a button to pop-up the front-facing camera. It can also be noted that the device will include dual SIM card compatibility. Huawei will probably offer the device in a few variants that bring different storage options and slightly altered specs, similar to what the company has done in the past with their recent handsets. There is no word on pricing and availability.

Huawei Honor line of smartphones lead huge surge for company in 2015
Huawei has announced that their Honor line of smartphones have been selling at a phenomenal rate during the first half of 2015. Thus far, revenue has increased to $2.63 billion on 20 million devices produced during the first six months of the year. For the six months, Huawei Honor has already exceeded the totals for all of 2014 and Huawei expects to double the 2015 results before the end of the year.
Huawei managed to grow their market share by 39 percent despite the global smartphone market only growing by 7 percent compared to the first half of 2014. Out of that growth, the company’s flagship Honor smartphone accounted for 40 percent of the 48.2 million smartphones shipped by Huawei.
Huawei vice president in the Middle East, Chris Sun Baigong, said:
“As a bold and brave new brand, which was launched globally as recently as the end of 2013, we have already received highly positive feedback in comparison to other brands. We are excited to be entering the Middle East market and see huge potential to grow by offering something unique to our new dynamic customers.”
Huawei has already entered 74 markets around the globe and continues to expand.

Huawei shipped over 20 million Honor handsets in H1 2015

Huawei launched its Honor brand of smartphones to help break away from the perception of being just another low-cost Chinese manufacturer and the tactic seems to have worked. The company has shipped over 20 million Honor branded smartphones so far this year, resulting in a revenue of $2.63 billion.
Huawei has already shipped more Honor smartphones in the first half of 2015 that it managed in the entirety of 2014, marking substantial growth in the company’s sub-brand. Revenue is said to have doubled year on year and Huawei is looking to shift 40 million Honor phones by the end of the 2015.

In total, the Honor brand accounts for around 40 percent of the company’s entire smartphone shipments, which has reached 48.2 million units this year already. Last month, the company announced that it has seen its total smartphone revenue increase by 87 percent to $7.23 billion.
The Honor series has proven particular popular in Europe, where its range of smartphones offered good value for money at a lower price than much of the competition. As a result, Huawei has seen its smartphone shipments grow by 39 percent year on year, while the rest of the market has grown by a smaller 7 percent. The company’s latest Honor 7 phone is scheduled to launch in Europe later this month.

Outside of its Honor brand, Huawei continues to be a dominant player in China, where the company currently sits in second place. Looking to the future, Huawei plans to expand its Honor series to Middle Eastern markets, such as Saudi Arabia, as well as continuing to focus on Europe and the increasingly competitive emerging markets.
New variant of the Huawei G8 is coming to China
You may recall last week when Huawei unveiled its G8 smartphone in China. A new report from Gizmochina suggests the company is working on a new variant of the handset. It will likely feature the same all-metal body design on the G8, but there will be some subtle differences in the upcoming handset’s internals.
Unlike the Huawei G8 which came with the popular mid-range Snapdragon 615 chipset, the new handset will feature a slightly upgraded Snapdragon 616 processor. But don’t get your hopes up, we aren’t looking at a major revamp.
You will get the same Cortex A53 cores, half clocked at 1.7GHz and the other four clocked at 1.2GHz. This is a very minor difference in clock speed, and even the GPU will be the same Adreno 405 as the G8 smartphone. The major difference is that the new Snapdragon 616 will come with X5 LTE World Mode modem, which brings additional connectivity options in addition to Cat. 4 LTE speeds (up to 150MBps) with LTE Advanced 2x10MHz Carrier Aggregation (CA).
Other internal specifications will be kept mostly the same as the G8 smartphone. The handset will come in two different models. One 2GB / 16GB version, and one 3GB / 32GB model. Pricing for the new handset will start at 2099 Yuan for the lesser model and increase by 400 Yuan if you want the extra storage.
