Stylish Huawei Watch release appears right round the corner
There is no denying the usability of smartwatches but usually their bulky design makes the style conscious people wary of choosing them over classic analog watches. But all that is about to change with the release of the Huawei Watch just round the corner.
Although the date of the release has not been confirmed, it is available for preorder on Huawei’s US website. The listing reads, “It is right round the corner. Sign up now for the latest news and updates about the Huawei Watch.” The post makes us believe that it won’t be long before we can lay our hands on the premium-looking wearable that has garnered a lot of interest among users as well as technology enthusiasts right since its announcement in March at MWC 2015.
The Huawei Watch features a 1.4-inch AMOLED display with a 400 x 400 pixels resolution, which comes with sapphire glass protection. It is powered by a 1.2GHz Qualcomm processor and 512MB of RAM. It comes with 4GB on board storage and Android Wear software out of the box.

Huawei’s Android Wear smartwatch is “right round the corner”
Will the Huawei Watch be made available next week, next month, or next year? That is the thought of many since Huawei’s Android Wear smartwatch was announced almost six months ago. The company still has not offered a release date or specified its price. Huawei has remained silent on sharing any details. A new signup page, though, could be an indication that Huawei is preparing to release its smartwatch very soon.
The page is headed by a teaser saying that the Huawei Watch is “right round the corner.” You would be correct in seeing two meanings there. The smartwatch will indeed have a round design and its release is in the near future.
Taylor Wimberly, a Huawei employee, also posted to his Google+ account the following:
Huawei may be waiting for a major update to Android Wear before sales of its first Android Wear smartwatch begin. Until then, you can marvel at the Huawei Watch’s alleged retail packaging.

We are hoping it brings an advantage to picture quality and won’t just be for its unique looks.

Mysterious Huawei device shows up again, likely the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 Plus
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Yesterday, a mysterious Huawei device was leaked out by @evleaks, and today, it’s been revealed that device will be either the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 Plus or 7 Mini. The news broke when a number of images showing this device after completing an AnTuTu benchmark and gives us a better idea of what hardware is going to be inside the device. Namely, the Ascend Mate 7 Plus (we’ve decided this is more likely) is going to have a homegrown Kirin processor, 3GB RAM and a 4.7-inch 1080p display. Previous images have shown us a fingerprint scanner on the back and a 13MP camera.
While this new Huawei device is very exciting, the most notable discussion regarding this news is what’s going to happen to the Huawei Nexus smartphone. According to our previous understanding, the Huawei Nexus is supposed to be based on the Ascend Mate 8, however with this latest news about the Ascend Mate 7 Plus being released and the Ascend Mate 8 rumoured to be delayed till 2016, this really has us scratching our heads right now.
What do you think about the appearance of the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 Plus? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

New Huawei handset images leak ahead of IFA announcement
Evan Blass (@evleaks) is back for one of his now-rare appearances, and this time the leakster is giving us a bit of information on what could be Huawei’s upcoming large-screen smartphone, as well as an image. Let’s take a look at it!

As you can see, this is a large-screen smartphone that looks to be the successor to the Huawei Ascend Mate series. It’s not yet verified if this is the branding the device will be released under, though. In fact, not much is revealed about this mysterious smartphone. All Evan Blass could tell us is that the device will be launching at IFA 2015, on September 2nd.
At first it was believed this smartphone would be a part of the D-series and feature Force Touch, but Blass later confirmed neither bits of information were correct, leaving us in the dark.
Followup: I’m told that this is not a D-series — which is dead — and that the force touch feature has been pulled from this model.
— Evan Blass (@evleaks) August 8, 2015
What we can capture from the image is that the new Huawei handset will come with a sizable display, a fingerprint reader on the back and what looks to be a full metal body. We had actually seen a leaked video of this phone before, but we couldn’t confirm its validity. I mean, even the branding in the back was off, but now that this image is around we can see a huge resemblance.
Maybe the weird brand in the video is just being kept as a place-holder, something Huawei has been known to do in the past. Just remember all this information is unofficial, so don’t hold your breath on the image, the video or any of this information just yet.
We are sure more leaks and rumors will show up before IFA, so keep it tuned to the Android Authority home page for more details to come. Also, you can be sure we will be in Berlin covering all the goodies, so you will hear from us as soon as this phone goes official (if it does).

Huawei’s next phone to be announced at IFA 2015
On Twitter, Evan Blass revealed that a new device from Huawei will be launching on September 2 at IFA 2015.
Blass went on to state that Huawei will be announcing a new smartphone possibly belonging to a “D-series” of devices; however, shortly after sharing the image above, sources informed him that there is no such series. Also, a planned force touch feature was removed.
What we could be looking at here is a new Ascend Mate device. That would mean this is the successor to the Ascend Mate 7, coming with a large display and debuting in early September at IFA.

Mysterious Huawei device is leaked out prior to its September 2nd announcement
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Mr. evleaks is at it again – in the latest leak from the king of leaks, Evan Blass a.k.a. @evleaks, a mysterious Huawei device has been photographed which is said to be announced on September 2nd at IFA 2015. No doubt that this is one of the device’s Huawei is going to announce at the event, and previous leaks suggest to us that this device is either the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 Plus or the Huawei Ascend Mate 8, with the former being more probable according to the rumour. From the appearance of the device, it’s clear that it is quite large and takes a lot of design cues from last year’s Ascend Mate 7, with only the flash changing position since last year’s device.
Launching at IFA on 9/2. Features force touch. Branding currently unknown (D-series?). pic.twitter.com/5w2t7m7Nsx
— Evan Blass (@evleaks) August 8, 2015
The “force touch” mentioned in the tweet refers to a new capacative display technology that puts force sensors under the screen, allowing for more pressure-sensitive gestures. With the leak of this device comes another consideration – will the Huawei Nexus look like this? The Huawei Nexus was allegedly leaked earlier this week and it has more than a passing resemblance to the device that @evleaks posted a photo of. Food for thought.

Android vulnerability can lead to stolen fingerprints “in a large scale”

Biometric security is on the rise as more manufacturers adopt advanced security systems. The most popular method is the use of fingerprint sensors, a technique that has proven to be among the most secure and accurate. But is it really the safest authentication technique?
According to researchers Tao Wei and Yulong Zhang, from FireEye, there is a significant vulnerability in Android devices with fingerprint sensors, which can lead to mass fingerprint data theft.

This research was to be announced at the Black Hat conference in Las Vegas, and it’s said to include four methods hackers can use for stealing fingerprints. One of them is particularly worrisome. It is named the ‘fingerprint sensor spying attack’, and it can remotely steal fingerprint data “in a large scale”.
The attack has been confirmed on two popular smartphones – the HTC One Max and the Samsung Galaxy S5. This is not an isolated issue, though. It seems this is a problem that affects most Android smartphones with a fingerprint sensor, especially the popular ones from Samsung, HTC and Huawei.

The issue lies on the fact that most of these sensors are not fully protected on both a root and system level. Yulong Zhang goes on to mention that Apple’s iPhone is actually more secure, as it encrypts data from the scanner. Even if a hacker gains access to the reader, he would not be able to obtain a clean fingerprint image.
This news is especially bad right now, as we finally start to get over the Stagefright pandemonium. And an attack on this biometric information would be critical, because fingerprints are something that lasts a lifetime. Hackers would be able to harm you for an indefinite period of time.

It’s said affected manufacturers have patched the vulnerability by now, so you don’t have much to worry about now. But the issue does continue to have relevance for future security concerns. As devices become more secure, we tend to trust them with more personal information and private data. This means that when we do get attacked, the results will be more significant.

Those who want to read all the details can take a look at the presentation slide show and research paper. There’s more than enough details there, so have at it!
What do you think? Should we trust our devices with our biometric data? Should we just dump these systems and stick to our antiquated PINs and passwords?
