HTC will release the Hima Ultra exclusively for Chinese markets with the launch of the M9

htc_one_m9_sprint_dark_gunmetal_greyIf you weren’t entirely impressed with HTC’s M9 today, there’s always a chance that the bigger sized version of the device will change things up a bit. According to @upleaks, HTC will announce the Hima Ultra at a Chinese press conference later this year when they announce the M9 for that particular market. Unfortunately, that means the supposedly bigger sized version of the device will be exclusive to Chinese markets, at least at first.

There isn’t much info on what the Hima Ultra will be, but it’s a pretty safe bet it’ll stick to the same mold HTC is using for the new HTC One. We’ll keep you updated as more information surfaces.

HTC One M9 vs. Motorola Moto X

OneM9vsMotoX

Motorola’s latest Moto X flagship has been on the market for a few months now, and while the price has dropped, it is still an amazing phone that uses metal materials found on the One M9, and is just as speedy despite it’s older Snapdragon 801 chip. In terms of hardware, the One M9 has the edge over the Moto X in basically every way. You can expect much better battery, camera, and system performance in the One M9. The Moto X does have heavy customization options in terms of hardware, which is a huge selling point for many who wish to have a leather or wood back with their name’s engraved on them.

So, still a fan of the Moto X, or will you be hopping on an M9 as soon as it’s released?

HTC announces virtual reality headset, ‘Vive’

HTC presents one more contender in the growing VR market, the HTC Vive. The Vive will feature a 90hz refresh rate for very smooth video, a very light build so it is not uncomfortable on your head, a fully immersive experience with the partnership with Valve and Steam’s VR tracking software, and even wireless controllers to come with to make playing games the bets experience possible.

Cher Wang, Chairwoman of HTC commented, “It’s rare that a company has an opportunity to forever transform the ways in which people interact with the world and communicate with each other, but that is exactly what we plan to do with Valve.”

“We achieved this once before with our development of smartphone technology,” Peter Chou, CEO of HTC added, “And, through our partnership with Valve, we’ll now be doing this for a second time with VR technology of which consumers could only previously dream.”

HTC already has multiple other key partners on board to further develop Vive, such as HBO, Lionsgate Entertainment, and Google.

HTC’s full press release is below:

Mesmerizing quality, fully immersive experience

Vive offers the most immersive experience of any VR package, plunging people into other worlds at a moment’s notice. HTC and Valve have introduced a Full Room Scale 360 Degree Solution with Tracked Controllers, letting you get up, walk around and explore your virtual space, inspect objects from every angle and truly interact with your surroundings. Setting a new benchmark for performance, the headset features high-quality graphics, 90-frames-per-second video and incredible audio fidelity.HTC is also introducing new wireless VR controllers that will make you feel one with your virtual environment. The new HTC VR Controllers come in a pair and are designed to be so versatile that they will work with a wide range of VR experiences. Unlike typical game controllers, the HTC VR Controllers are simple and intuitive to use, helping everyone make the most of their experience.

Gaming and Beyond

Beta versions of the Vive Developer Edition have already generated rich entertainment content from some of the world’s top game developers including Vertigo Games, Bossa, Barry–Fireproof, Dovetail Games, Wemo Labs, Google, Steel Wool Games and Owlchemy.

“Our collaboration with HTC is driven by the companies’ shared desire to produce the most compelling and complete VR experience,” said Ken Birdwell of Valve. “Delivering content creators with the Vive Developer Edition is an incredibly important milestone in our efforts to achieve that goal.”

While amazing gaming experiences are a staple in the VR universe, the potential beyond gaming is limitless. HTC and Valve are committed to realizing a broader vision for VR and see a real opportunity in transforming everyday experiences. Travel, attending a game, meeting friends or even shopping will never be the same again, and the companies are working with leading content creators, including Google, HBO, Lionsgate and the National Palace Museum in Taiwan in order to make that vision a reality.

“Vive creates an exciting opportunity for all developers and content creators, to help us bring virtual reality into the mainstream with an end-to-end solution that completely redefines how we entertain ourselves, communicate with each other, learn and, eventually, how we become more productive,” Cher Wang concluded. “HTC Vive is real, it’s here and it’ll be ready to go before the start of 2016.”

Samsung Galaxy S6 vs. HTC One M9

S6vsM9

Samsung and HTC are going head-to-head today, both with devices that shine and fall short in some places.

While both powered by Android 5.0, Samsung puts its TouchWiz software overlay on top, this year with a cleaner and lighter design that they emphasized has “zero lag”. HTC has integrated their Sense 7 into Android with an improved home screen that gives the user much more customization options, such as changing the way icons look, which has only been done by third-party launchers.

In terms of processor used, this is a battle of Samsung’s in-house Exynos chip versus Qualcomm’s widely used Snapdragon series. Both chips are capable of 64-bit processing and include 8 cores inside them.

As of right now, Samsung is offering more storage options than HTC, including a 128 GB option. But they removed the option for expandable storage, while HTC is offering up to 128 GB expandable storage with micro-SD card.

In the camera department, HTC has put their 4 UltraPixel on the front of the device for great low-light performance and wide angles, and opted for a 20.7 MP camera on the back with autofocus and dual-LED flash. Samsung has promised with their new 16 MP camera that it has the best low-light performance of any smartphone, even the iPhone 6.

Samsung has decided to shrink the battery in the S6 to 2,550 mAh compared to their 2,800 battery last year. HTC has improved with a 2,840 mAh battery, that they promise will give the user 21 hours of talk time. Samsung has promised they have made many optimizations to the software, and have included quick charging capabilities that give the S6 four hours of use with only ten minutes of charging time. The One M9 also has QuickCharge 2.0, for 60% of battery charge in 30 minutes.

An honorable mention is the phones’ speakers. Samsung has confirmed the S6 will has 1.5x clearer and louder speakers than their S5, and HTC has improved Boomsound once again to stay king of the speakers department with Dolby 5.1 surround.

So, do either of these two announcements make you want one or the other? Let us know in the comments!

This morning, at least stateside, HTC announced the HTC One M9. Previous leaks were all pretty spot on. The new flagship from the Taiwanese manufacturer carries the Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core 64-bit processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB on board storage, Micro SD card slot, a 5-inch 1080p display and a 20MP camera and is all […]

HTC One M9 vs. LG G3

OneM9vsLGG3

In terms of power, the One M9 is the clear winner with the new Snapdragon chip capable of 64-bit processing and new graphics chip, and HTC looks like it has made some impressive modifications to Android 5.0 Lollipop, with heavy customization options, including the ability to edit icons to your preference, which only third-party launchers have done in the past. HTC is looking to hold the crown for best camera, but LG has optical image stabilization on its side, which HTC unfortunately did not include. Battery life could be very close, but because the One M9 has a smaller screen with lower resolution, they promise 21 hours of talk time, which could mean very impressive battery results in other activities as well.

What do you guys think? Does anyone still have their eyes on the G3, or does the M9 destroy just about everything?

htc_one_m9_sprint_dark_gunmetal_grey

As expected, Sprint will offer the new HTC One M9 to its customers. The carrier did not provide a specific release date, but it did say “early spring.” While waiting for the concrete release date, you can pre-register starting today. Sprint will then forward exact information when it becomes available.

On the carrier branding side of things, it looks like Sprint has only touched the status bar. The physical appearance is untouched and the status bar features the carrier’s LTE logos.
