HTC One M9 going on pre-order in the US at 12:01 AM tonight

HTC will be putting the One M9 up for sale early, with pre-orders set to begin at midnight in the US.
HTC previously announced April 10 as the availability date for its new flagship, but the company will be opening pre-orders for the unlocked model from March 27 at 12:01 AM. This goes for its online store; other retailers and carriers will offer the One M9 from April 10.
The unlocked One M9 will cost $649, and HTC also offers a 12-month interest free financing option. From April 10, the One M9 will be available from all four major US carriers, as well as retailers Amazon, Best Buy, Best Buy Mobile specialty stores, Costco Wholesale and Target.
According to an HTC rep, those who “order soon” may receive their devices before general availability begins on April 10.
All HTC One M9 purchases include the company’s newly announced Uh-Oh extended warranty program, which gives you a free replacement in case of screen damage, water damage, or carrier switching in the first 12 months from purchase. Even if you don’t need a replacement, you still stand to win from Uh-Oh, as HTC will give you a $100 gift card to use towards the purchase of a new One device.
Despite the lack of major changes compared to the previous generation, the One M9 left a positive impression on our Joshua Vergara, who scored it a solid 8.5 out 10. The only real disappointment is the camera, which is simply subpar. Check out the full One M9 review here.

Bellevue, WA —March 26, 2015 — HTC America Inc., a leader in mobile innovation, will begin selling its highly anticipated new flagship device, the HTC One® M9 that comes with the industry-leading UH OH™ Protection, online in the U.S. at 12:01 a.m. ET on Friday, March 27 and in-store on April 10 at major carriers and retailers.
Widely considered smartphone of the year for the past two years, the third generation of the HTC One ups the ante in the smartphone category with the most personal, intuitive and powerful smartphone from HTC yet while continuing the design heritage for which the HTC One is known.
“The craftsmanship of our new HTC One M9 resembles that of a fine watch. We’ve retained our iconic design but made it even better while not compromising on what is important to our customers,” said Jason Mackenzie, president of HTC America.
The HTC One M9 boasts the iconic all-metal unibody design with a new scratch resistant, dual finish that is as distinctive as it is durable. “According to Kantar*, HTC One owners listen to music more than the average smartphone user and so we didn’t compromise on what is important for our consumers,” said Mackenzie. “We kept the microSD slot and increased capacity to 2TB because you want your content with you, we made our HTC BoomSound™ experience even better by adding Dolby Audio™ to give you a surround sound experience, and while others are reducing battery size, we increased it so you can enjoy your music and movies even longer.”
The HTC One M9 delivers an unparalleled personalized smartphone experience with the new HTC Sense® 7. HTC Themes offers a unique customizable home screen either by selecting from the theme collection or by creating a custom theme from a favorite photo. Sense Home is a new, intelligent widget that automatically curates apps based on your usage and location. It is contextually aware of location, time of day and what apps are preferred at home, work or on the go and will intelligently recommend apps and nearby restaurants with ratings from friends and followers.
The HTC One M9 cameras are designed to capture every moment with amazing quality. A 20 megapixel rear-facing camera delivers crisp, detailed shots and has a sapphire lens cover to protect it from scratches. The front-facing UltraPixel™ camera captures more light than most 13 megapixel cameras ensuring sharper, more natural and balanced self-portraits in any lighting conditions. A host of new editing effects have been added to HTC EYE™ Experience software include Double Exposure, Shapes, Prismatic, Elements and Bokeh.
The HTC One M9 comes with HTC BoomSound, the iconic dual front-facing speakers, now featuring 5.1 channel Dolby Audio Surround*. Theatre mode uses HRTF and Crosstalk Cancellation technology to create an extraordinary, cinema-style surround sound effect while watching movies. Whether listening via HTC BoomSound speakers or headphones, users will be blown away by 24-bit high-definition sound. As a hub for home entertainment, HTC Connect® makes it easy to create a multimedia experience beyond your phone. A three-finger swipe on the screen connects the phone to compatible TVs or external speakers. The integration of HTC Connect with Qualcomm® AllPlay™ smart media platform and Blackfire Research™ wireless media technology enables high-quality content to be streamed from the HTC One M9 to multiple home entertainment devices around the house.
“We are not only delivering the best-looking, best-performing smartphone on the market, we are ensuring it stays that way with UH OH™ Protection,” said Mackenzie. “We are the only smartphone company that has your back if something unfortunate happens or if you need to change carriers.”

HTC One M9+ resurfaces, appears headed for China
With the HTC One M9 release imminent, rumours have surfaced of another variant called the M9+ after a launch event in Beijing got sent out earlier today.
A bigger device with the Duo Camera as seen on the M8 as well as a fingerprint sensor on the front of device is what makes up the M9+.
Another leak seems to indicate a model designated as the M9pt which seems to be destined for China has a QHD display, a MediaTek 64-bit Octa-Core chipset and 3GB of RAM.
The launch event in China is scheduled for April 8th so it won’t be long before we find out for real.

HTC invites for event in China seemingly point to One M9 Plus announcement
The HTC One M9 Plus is another device from the Taiwanese manufacturer that hasn’t been kept hidden very well. HTC One M9 Plus could be announced at event scheduled for April 8th
Although HTC is still in the process of rolling out their newest flagship device, the HTC One M9, they have issued an invitation to an announcement event scheduled for April 8th in Beijing. The announcement includes an image of an HTC smartphone that appears to have a dual camera setup, consistent with rumors of the HTC One M9 Plus camera equipment. Another clue that the HTC One M9 Plus will be headlining the event is the “More than One” tagline HTC uses, indicating their announcement will be about the One “plus” something.
Some sources are worried that the selection of Beijing for the announcement is an indication the HTC One M9 Plus will only be available to the Chinese market or only Asian markets at best.

5 reasons why your next smartphone should be from HTC.
Unparalleled Build Quality
HTC has been in the Android business for quite some time now (more on that later), and during that time, they have learned a great deal about what makes a great smartphone, well, great. You of course have the software, sound quality (it is a phone after all), radio quality, screen technology, camera capabilities, the list goes on and on. One of the most important features though, is the design of the smartphone itself. I mean, come on. The phone might be able to do a hundred things, and then some, but if it looks hideous and is uncomfortable to use, no one is going to want to use it. Well, almost no one. Anyway, HTC took that into account when they designed their latest smartphones, and it shows. The metal unibody of the HTC One M7, M8, and soon to be released, M9, has made HTC one of the leading exemplars of how a smartphone manufacturer should design their devices.
A Company of Firsts
When the first Android device came out, guess who manufactured it? If you guessed HTC, then you guess right. (Not too hard, since this article is primarily focused on HTC). The HTC Dream was the first commercially available smartphone to hit the market back in 2008 with the Android operating system on board. One of the biggest hits of the year, and the beginning of what would be one of the largest mobile operating systems in the world. All thanks to a Dream shared between Google and HTC. (Pun intended.) HTC was also the chosen carrier for Verizon when they decided to release their 4G LTE network to the country, and so they created the HTC Thunderbolt. It able to download and upload at speeds that, at the time, were unheard of. And lets not forget the Nexus One. After so many manufacturers took the Android OS and made countless adjustments to it, Google wanted to create something that would run vanilla Android, with no OEM tweaks whatsoever. HTC was again chosen to be the leader of the pack, and they released the Nexus One, which would be followed by various other Nexus devices in the upcoming years.
HTC BoomSound
One of the things that has befuddled many a user is the fact that OEM’s (which stands for original equipment manufacturer) have always placed the phones media speakers on the back of the devices. When you are watching a video, the sound can sound distorted, since it is moving away from you instead of towards you. HTC decided to make a change, and they moved not one speaker, but two, to the front of the device. As a longtime Android user, I can definitely notice the difference it makes having the speakers face you, instead of facing away. Sound is clearer, louder, and more defined, and makes any media experience better because of it.
No Gimmicks
After so many years, OEM’s have run into the issue of what they can do to differentiate them from the crowd. While one can say it has only made Android devices better in the long run, it has also lead to some not so useful features that look and function like they were scrapped together in an attempt to just add them into the Android OS. We wont name any names, but HTC has managed to say clear from that policy of some of its competitors and instead has focused on making features that are useful, such as HTC BoomSound and HTC Sense, which we will discus in more detail later on.
HTC Sense
HTC Sense was born of out a need to stand apart from the other smartphone makers. When everyone was scrambling to make what really were just skinned versions of Android, HTC was busy trying to compliment it, not detract from it. So out of that came HTC Sense. Though I will say it was a bit buggy and laggy when it first came out, it is now one of the best features about owning an HTC device. Most notably, BlinkFeed, which shows you FB posts, twitter posts, and news right on the homescreen. There were also some UI tweaks that just made the overall experience of owning an Android smartphone all the better.
Final Thoughts
While this is by no means a complete list of why owning an HTC smartphone is a great experience, it does cover some of the more notable features that has made the smartphone company one of the best for so many years. I have owned devices from Motorola, Samsung, Asus, and some others, and I always come back to HTC. It’s hard not too when they make such great devices. HTC’s beefier M9 for China leaks with sharper screen and fingerprint reader
Rumor of a beefier HTC One M9 variant — aka “M9+” — had been floating around for some time, but we’ve remained skeptical until we came across the latest batch of leaks. Better yet, some of these are backed up by an official (poorly made but actually legit) Beijing launch invitation sent out earlier today; see for yourself after the break. What we’re seeing is that the Duo Camera feature on the M8 is here to stay, and there’s also the previously rumored front-side fingerprint reader which, sadly, reminds us of the home buttons on earlier Samsung devices.

Another leak shows that this “M9pt” device — the “t” means this is for China Mobile — packs a QHD (2,560 x 1,440) display, a MediaTek MT6795T 64-bit octa-core chipset (with PowerVR G6200 GPU), about 3GB of RAM and the same 20-megapixel camera as the M9 — albeit in a prettier circular shape instead of a squircle.
Little else is known about this M9+, but given the April 8th launch event in China, it won’t be long before we find out more. We must say, though, that HTC China really needs to hire better graphic designers.

The HTC One E9 shows off its glossy exterior in leaked image
Earlier this month we saw the HTC One E9 get certified by the Chinese version of the FCC, the TENAA, and today a new picture of the handset has been leaked via Twitter. You would be correct in thinking that this is not a variant of the HTC One M9 that we saw released on March 1st.
As you can see from the image above that was posted on Twitter by @upleaks, the HTC One E9 has a glossy plastic exterior like its predecessor, the E8. The handset will probably be restricted to the Asian markets with a price tag of around $480. The HTC One E9 will apparently be announced next week in China which means we should find out more information about its hardware specifications then. What do you think of the HTC One E9?
Specifications
- 5.5-inch QHD display (2560 x 1440)
- MediaTek Octa-core processor @ 2.2GHz

The HTC One M9 Plus makes another appearance, this time in dummy form
@OnLeaks has continued his crusade to reveal as much about the rumoured HTC One M9 Plus handset as much as possible before it is officially announced (or unceremoniously cancelled). Today’s leak seems a dummy unit of the HTC One M9 Plus surface, in video format no less, which gives a rough look at the size of the […]
