A recently discovered plastic flagship smartphone has gone from rumored to real world as the One E9+ quietly makes an appearance on HTC’s Chinese website. Without any real fanfare, the handset has made its way online with specs, but no pricing or availability.

Powered by Android 5.0 with HTC Sense 7, the specifications include:

  • 20-megapixel rear camera
  • UltraPixel front camera
  • 64-bit octa-core MediaTek MT6795M processor
  • 5.5-inch 2560×1440 display
  • 16GB storage
  • microSD expansion card slot
  • 3GB RAM
  • Dual-SIM support
  • 4G LTE connectivity
  • BoomSound front speakers
  • 2800mAh battery

The E9+ is wrapped in a glossy polycarbonate and figures to come in three color options: Meteor Gray, Classic Rose Gold, and Gold Sepia. It’s not clear where the phone with be sold, but, based on its predecessor, we might expect it to be offered in Asian markets.

One M7 getting Lollipop in India and other Asian countries

htc one vs sony xperia z on design back in hand aa

HTC is now pushing OTA updates to bring Android 5.0 Lollipop to One M7 users in India and other Asian countries.

Following the release of the Lollipop OTA for the One M7 in Europe and the US in February, HTC is now bringing the same update to India, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Other countries have not been confirmed, but there’s a solid chance the update will be coming soon to other markets in Southeast Asia as well.

The update brings several Lollipop design elements to HTC Sense, including the new notification style, lockscreen notifications, the revamped quick settings, and the recent activities interface. The OTA changelog also mentions the addition of a search function within settings.

The software update bears the 7.21.707.105 version number and weighs in at roughly 775MB. To check for the update manually, visit Settings>About Phone>Software Update.

This may be the last major update that the two-year One M7 receives. HTC’s Mo Versi announced that only the Google Play Edition of the M7 would see Android 5.1, though the HTC representative backtracked to an extent the following day.

HTC One M9 pre-orders begin shipping today

htc one m9 61

US pre-orders for the HTC One M9 will begin shipping out today, March 30th, and should be completed by April 3rd, according to an email circulating by HTC. It looks like those who pre-ordered will receive their new One M9 ahead of the general in-store launch date, which is set for April 10th.

Orders for the HTC One M9 will begin shipping on Monday 3/30, and should ship by Friday 4/3 at the latest. Any changes to this will be communicated directly to you from HTC.

The One M9 has been made available to pre-purchase from almost all major US carriers, including AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint, and Verizon’s pre-orders are scheduled to begin tomorrow. HTC is also allowing you to compare all deals and buy the handset directly through its own online store.

Despite a delay to its home launch in Taiwan last month for software fixes, the company appears to be on schedule for the broader rollout of its M9. If you’re still undecided about whether the M9 is right for you, be sure to check out our in-depth review.

E-Scooters with swappable batteries will land in Taipei this summer

Scooters don’t normally generate much buzz without some kind of gimmick — unless they’re, say, connected to a well-known company and feature a crazy business model. The all-electric Gogoro Smartscooter fits that description perfectly, as it was created by former HTC executives and relies on a network of swappable batteries. After debuting just a few months ago at CES, it will launch commercially this summer in greater Tapei following a pilot program. The centerpiece is the Gogoro Experience Center, a retail outlet that’ll show off the Smartscooter EV’s design and options. It’ll also teach consumers about the GoStation, a removable battery vending machine that’s part of the company’s Gogoro Energy Network.

In fact, riders can’t even charge the Smartscooters themselves — the only way to juice up is to subscribe to the network and swap the encrypted, Panasonic-built batteries (below) at kiosks around the city. You’ll also get an app that tells you when you need to swap the batteries and where to find a kiosk, among other functions.

While Smartscooters will cost about the same as regular scooters, riders won’t be able to use them without a subscription that may cost more than gas — similar to how printer companies make their money off of ink. There’s no word on exact pricing yet, but Gogoro will test the program with 100 riders ahead of the summer launch to work out any bugs. They may also appear elsewhere around the world later this year, though we’d guess that everything depends on a successful trial in Taiwan.

One E9+ launched in China: 5.5-inch Quad HD, MediaTek processor, plastic body

HTC One E9+ zz

A steady stream of leaks revealed most of the key details of HTC’s newest flagship phones, but, over the weekend, HTC quietly finished the job by publishing an official page for the One E9+.

Like the E8 last year, the E9+ looks like a cross between the One M# series and the Desire series, featuring a two-tone plastic body, the distinctive BoomSound speaker setup on the front, and a large camera positioned up top on the back. Continuing the hybrid theme, the frame of the device is actually metallic with chamfered edges. The three color options are “Meteor Grey,” “Classic Rose Gold,” and “Gold Sepia.”

According to the HTC product page, the One E9+ will feature a 5.5-inch Quad HD LCD display (2560 x 1440 pixels) for a pixel density of 534 ppi. This is the first HTC device to make the jump from Full HD, with HTC sticking with the smaller resolution for the range-leader 5-inch M9.

HTC swapped the Qualcomm processor it usually prefers for higher-end devices with an octa-core chip from MediaTek, MT6795M. Like the troubled Snapdragon 810 inside the One M9, this is a 64-bit chip combining four Cortex A53 cores with four Cortex A57 cores, set up in a big.LITTLE arrangement. Other key features are 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage (expandable), a 2800-mAh battery, a 20MP camera on the rear, and a 4MP UltraPixel camera up front. The device is running Lollipop with Sense 7.

There’s some confusion regarding these specifications, with the E9+’s spec sheet listing some lesser configurations, though, as Engadget points out, that’s likely an error on HTC’s side.

The lesser specs (1080p screen, 16MP camera, 2GB of RAM) could actually belong to the One E9, which hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. The E9 appears to be very similar to the larger E9+, save for the absence of the metallic frame and a smaller camera on the back. Here are some press shots of the E9 shared yesterday by @upleaks.

Both the E9 and the E9+ are likely to be primarily targeted at East Asian markets; so far, there’s no official info on price or availability, but we’ll keep you posted if HTC makes any announcement.

HTC One E9+ makes an official appearance on HTC in China

HTC devices are pretty notorious for being leaked early. They usually come from inside sources from material that is being prepared for a launch. Other times it comes from testers who snap some photos and send out details to others. When a new device gets quietly launched on an official channel, it really isn’t much […]

HTC’s One E9+ gets quietly announced with high resolution 5.5-inch screen

htc one e9+HTC has very quietly listed the One E9+ on their Chinese website, detailing the phablet ahead of its official launch. The E9+ sports a massive 5.5-inch quad HD screen, giving it a higher resolution than what HTC’s current crop of flagships use. This marks HTC’s first foray into quad HD resolutions, catching up with Samsung and LG.

Other specs include a 64-bit octa-core MediaTek processor, 3 GB of RAM, and a very capable 20 megapixel camera on the backside of the device. You’ll find 16 GB of expandable storage, a 2,800 mAh battery, and an UltraPixel front facing camera, plus BoomSound speakers above and below the screen. Those speakers sound fantastic, but on a device like this, it means the phone is going to be very big compared to other 5.5-inch offerings.

No word on pricing or availability just yet, but the site shows the device will be available in three different colors; Meteor Gray, Classic Rose Gold, or Gold Sepia. HTC will likely fill in the rest of the details soon.

HTC’s One E9+ is its latest phablet with a stunning screen

Just like that, HTC has quietly — well, maybe unintentionally — unveiled its latest phablet on its China website. With some minor differences, the One E9+ is pretty much what we saw on the certification database earlier this month. The biggest selling point of this half metal, half plastic device is perhaps its 5.5-inch Quad HD (534 ppi) display, making it the sharpest screen ever used on an HTC phone. Oddly, though, the website’s spec sheet states a 1080p resolution, which we’ll assume is actually meant for a lesser E9. Likewise with the 2GB of RAM instead of 3GB, as well as the 13-megapixel main camera instead of the 20-megapixel version mentioned on the product page.

If the rest of the specs are correct, we’re looking at a 64-bit, octa-core 2GHz MT6795M chipset from MediaTek, 16GB of internal storage, microSD expansion of up to 128GB, dual Nano SIM slots, a 2,800 mAh battery, an UltraPixel front-facing camera and the trademark BoomSound front-facing stereo speakers. And of course, you also get multi-mode LTE along with 802.11ac WiFi. All of these goodies are tucked into a 7.49mm-thick body. Alas, that’s all we’ve got so far; no price nor date just yet, so stay tuned for more.

The HTC One M9+ has its design showcased in latest leak

m9-plus-leak

Renowned leaker @Upleaks has posted a couple of press renders clearly showing the design of the much-anticipated upscaled variant of HTC’s flagship smartphone of 2015, the One M9.

As can be seen in the image above, the design of the M9+’s chassis is extremely similar to the standard One M9, with only a few minor alterations. One being a second UltraPixel camera on the back of the device. Another, a fingerprint scanner beneath the screen on the front.

If recent speculation is anything to go by, the One M9+ is set to pack a 5.2-inch Quad HD display, a high-end octa-core Mediatek CPU, 3GB of RAM, a 20-megapixel rear-facing camera, a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter and a 2,840 mAh non-removable battery.

As with all leaks and rumors, we have to take the alleged design and specifications with a large pinch of salt until HTC provides us with some solid evidence regarding what it has in store for its next flagship phablet, but thankfully we don’t have to wait too much longer until we find out as the Taiwanese company has a press event scheduled for April 8.
