The HTC One (M9) gets the teardown treatment

The folks over at iFixit have finally managed to get their hands on an HTC One (M9), and have taken it apart to show us just how difficult it is to fix and rebuild. The handset can be taken dismantled in 17 relatively easy steps, but due to an abundance of small parts and the intense use of adhesive it would be somewhat tedious to repair at home, therefore, only scoring a mere 2/10 in its repairability rating.

Hit the break to see a few key images from the teardown.

It’s a new day so that means more leaked HTC One M9+ images

HTC_One_M9_Plus_Leak_Home_Button_Closeup

I am using the word “leak” here, but it’s more like a running faucet. Images of the HTC One M9+ continue to appear, not only daily, but multiple times daily.

This latest leak seems to be promotional materials, and although they don’t show anything all that new, there is a closeup of that Samsung-like Home button that will house a fingerprint sensor.

It still boggles my mind why this phone wasn’t the M9 to begin with. Why offer two variants?

HTC Blinkfeed rebranded to Sense Home, include HTC themes and more

HTC-sense-home

The One (M7) was not only a big step forward for HTC in terms of design, but the handset also saw some significant advances on the software side of things, particularly with the introduction of Blinkfeed. Since then, Blinkfeed has evolved a bit, and with the One M8 even made its way to the Play store for quicker updating. Now with the One M9, Blinkfeed is being rebranded as Sense Home.

Sense Home isn’t just Blinkfeed with a new name, the app also includes the new Sense Home widget, HTC Themes, and a few other tweaks that bring some of the features from the M9 over to existing devices. HTC’s Google Play listing notes that some of the features for Sense Home require Sense 7, something the One M7 and One M8 haven’t seen just yet. One of the biggest new software features introduced with the One M9 is theming, and so we’re happy to say that the new Themes system reportedly works fine on older devices with Sense 6 — though we’ve yet to try it out for ourselves just yet. With HTC Themes you can change colors, icons, wallpapers, sounds, and more.

To download the new HTC Sense Home app, you’ll want to head on over to Google Play. Keep in mind that you’ll also need to update the HTC Service Pack. Have you downloaded it yet, if so, what M9 features have you found to be working — and what’s not?

HTC One M8s gets announced with a Qualcomm 615 processor, 13MP camera and larger battery

HTC has gone out on a limb with a new device announcement this morning. One that seems a bit late, but still has its place in the world of phones. The Taiwanese manufacture has added an “S” model to its line up with the HTC One M8s. No, not M8’s, as in plural, M8s as […]

HTC_One_M9+_Silver_On_Gold

We are less than a week away until the HTC One M9+ is unveiled for real, but we aren’t sure what there is left to unveil? We have two more images for you to feast your eyes on.

HTC_One_M9+_Gold

As you can see, HTC will offer up the same Silver and Gold and all Gold options that are offered in the basic One M9.

I am still trying to figure out why HTC would offer this Plus version so close to the April 10 launch day of the basic M9?

HTC BlinkFeed merges into Sense Home, works with the One (M8) too

htc_sense_home_app_icon

Today, HTC BlinkFeed has been replaced in the Play Store by another one of the company’s apps. This one, however, houses more than just BlinkFeed. The new Sense Home app acts as an umbrella for BlinkFeed, Themes, Sense widgets, and the launcher. All these apps and services are already found on the new One M9, but owners of the One (M8) are able to take advantage of them. This means that both One (M8) and One M9 owners have the ability to customize themes for their devices. Most items can be changed on the One (M8) as they would on its successor, but there are some limitations. That will change once Sense 7 rolls out to last year’s HTC flagship.

64GB HTC One M9 arrives to Taiwan, but what about the rest of the world?

htc one m9 review aa (6 of 34)

While Samsung gives us three different storage configurations for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, the HTC One M9 is shipping with only one storage option, though it does have the advantage of a microSD slot. However, for those in HTC’s home country of Taiwan, a larger 64GB option has now arrived, retailing for NT$23,900 or $767.42. That’s a premium of about $67 over Taiwan’s 32GB model.

Aside from double the storage, the 64GB One M9 is otherwise the same as the 32GB model we’re seeing internationally. The One M9 64GB option will be offered both in HTC’s stores and through Chunghwa Telecom outlets in Taiwan. But what about the rest of the world? Focus Taiwan says HTC has absolutely no plans to introduce the model to other markets.

While it’s true that combining the 32GB model with a 128GB microSD card still gives One M9 users considerably more usable space than Galaxy S6 users will have, this still feels like a missed opportunity. MicroSD expansion is great, but it’s also not as fast, and we’re sure there are quite a few soon-to-be HTC One M9 users that would consider paying $50 – $75 more for double the internal storage. At the very least, HTC could throw us a bone and release an unlocked/dev version with 64GB storage.

What do you think, should HTC consider releasing additional storage variants of the One M9 internationally, or is having a microSD slot more than enough?

HTC One M9+ leaked again, this time in promotional materials

HTC_One_M9_Back_HTC_Logo_TA

HTC will unveil the HTC One M9+ on April 8 in Beijing, and if the recent leaked images of the device were not enough, how about some promotional materials?

HTC_One_M9_Plus_More_Than_One_Leaked_Promo_01

“More than One” is the way they will market the phone and you can see they will be highlighting the new Home button, the metal build, and it’s UI. The M9+ is also rumored to sport a Duo Camera, but none of these images confirm that.

Should we be excited for the M9+ or ticked off because HTC is unveiling a better phone before the basic M9 is even officially launched?

New invites tease more of the HTC One M9 Plus, including its physical home button

On April 8th, it’s been made pretty obvious that HTC is going to announce a new device, the HTC One M9 Plus. We’ve seen plenty of this device already through leaks, but HTC has decided we haven’t seen enough yet and has put even more explicit hints on some invites spotted in China, one of which […]

A challenger appears: HTC unveils the HTC One M8s, a new take on the 2014 flagship

It’s not quite the HTC One M9 Plus, but it is a familiar face. HTC has just announced a new device called the HTC One M8s and as you might expect from the name, is actually just last year’s HTC One M8 with a few changes. At first glance, it will look like the phone has […]
