HTC brings two new low to mid-range devices to Verizon
Even though their shareholders think that the company is worth just about nothing, HTC is still churning out new devices. This time, we find ourselves looking at two new mid-range devices that are making their way to Verizon.
The HTC Desire 526 features a 4.7-inch QHD display, a quad-core Qualcomm MSM8909 clocked at 1.1 GHz, 1.5GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage. As with most devices nowadays, 8GB of storage is hardly anything, even with the cloud. HTC kept that in mind and included support for a microSD card up to 200GB.
As for the camera, you won’t find any UltraPixels, as the Desire 526 is sporting an 8MP rear-facing camera, and a 2MP “selfie” camera. Finally, the Desire 526 is running all of this with Android 5.1 Lollipop with HTC’s Sense overlay.
The Desire 526 will be available tomorrow, August 13th, through Verizon. You will either be able to purchase this device for $120 for prepaid usage, or on contract for $5 a month for 24 months.
The second device that HTC is bringing to Verizon, will be the HTC Desire 626. This device is the more “fun” one, as there are multiple color options, to try and stay hip. Under the hood, the specs are a bit more impressive compared to the little brother of the Desire 526.
If you pick up the Desire 626, you’ll be getting a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdrafon 210 clocked at 1.1GHz with 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of memory, and microSD card support for up to 200GB. Also running under the hood is a 2000mAh battery, 8MP rear camera, and a 5MP front facing camera. Both of which record HD video in 720p. The display is a 5″ 720p Super LCD with 293ppi.
There isn’t a specific date for when the HTC Desire 626 is to be released, other than “in the coming weeks.” Neither Verizon nor HTC make mention of how much the Desire 626 will cost, but we’d put a guess of around $200 or $250 due to the fact that this will also be available via both contract and Verizon prepaid.
What do you think about these new devices coming out HTC? Are you interested in throwing these names in the hat to compete for best low to mid-range smart phones?

Budget-friendly HTC Desire 526 and Desire 626 are coming soon to Verizon

Verizon has just announced that two more budget-friendly Android handsets made by HTC are coming to the carrier sometime soon. The HTC Desire 526 and 626 were both announced back in July, each boasting decent specifications, solid build quality and some great software enhancements for a cheap price point.
For starters, the Verizon-exclusive Desire 526 has a 4.7-inch qHD display, a 1.1 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of on-board storage and microSD card expansion. It also comes with an 8MP rear-facing camera, 2MP front camera, a 2,000mAh battery, and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop. The 526 will be available on Thursday, August 13th for $120 off-contract or for $5 per month for 24 months on Verizon’s prepaid network. For more information on the Desire 526, check it out here on Verizon’s website.

The higher end of the two is the Desire 626, which comes with a 5.0-inch 720p display, a 1.1 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and microSD expansion. This one also has an 8MP rear camera, 5MP front facer, a 2,000mAh battery and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop. The 626 will also be available on Verizon prepaid “in the coming weeks”, though the carrier has yet to release any specific pricing or availability details.
Cracked your Nexus 6? Get it replaced through Project Fi
Good guy Google is at it again. If you’re prone to dropping and breaking your phones, there’s a special deal for you if you’re using Project Fi. We all know that the Nexus 6 is cumbersome, and can be prone to drops and such since the device is so large.
Well, Google has announced that customers of Project Fi, will get a one-time replacement of their Nexus 6. Now there’s a little bit more to that, which is where the “Good Guy” comes in. If you break your Nexus 6, you will only have to pay $100 to get your Nexus 6 replaced. Now, the only catch that can be found, is that it seems that you will only get this coverage if you purchased your Nexus 6 through Project Fi.
This is in line with HTC’s Uh-Oh Program, where you can get a new device if you break or crack your HTC M8 or HTC M9. The difference is that the Uh-Oh protection is free, where Google is charging $100. Regardless of the fee, paying $100 is A LOT better than having to shell out another $500 for a new device. It’s all about paying attention to the dollars and cents.
So if you’re on Project Fi, and ever run into this issue, Google’s got your back. If you do it again, well, get ready to shell out the dough. At least until more devices are supported by Google’s Project Fi.
Have you gotten your Project Fi invite yet? Let us know what you think about Google’s foray into the mobile network spectrum in the comments below.

HTC Re Camera 50% off at Best Buy right now, that makes it $99
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
Technology lets us do amazing things. However, there are still limitations set by our most used items, our phones. Surely if you have a Samsung Galaxy S6 Active or a Sony Xperia Z of some sorts, then you have a bit more freedom then most when it comes to get photos and videos where water is involved. Not everyone is keen to buy those devices just for that luxury though. That is where an accessory that costs a fraction of your device can come in handy quite a bit. The HTC Re Camera is one such little device that packs some solid specs, expandable storage, and additional abilities like using your phone as the view finder or the trigger to start recording or shoot a photo, comes in handy. At launch the little cameras were priced at $199. Considering the competition, it wasn’t a terrible price for the imitation inhaler and all that it can do. If you have yet to pull the trigger on one of these little guys, today is the day you may want to pull out that credit card and do so as it is on sale through Best Buy for just $99.
Like all good deals, this is a limited time offer that is part of the Deal of the Day promotion. They are offering the deal on all three color options; Blue, White or Orange. I personally dig the Blue one, but certainly wouldn’t regret picking up any color. The little Re isn’t perfect as low light images aren’t the best, but if you are out and about to finish up summer and want to get some great shots without the fear of ruining your phone, this is a great device to do it with. While you are at it, be sure to look at the various mounts and charging cradle too.

Deal: Purchase a 16GB Wi-Fi Nexus 9 from Expansys USA for just $290

If you’ve been looking to pick up a brand new Nexus 9 tablet for cheap, odds are you’ve stumbled across Expansys’ website. Over the past few months, the retailer has offered big discounts on the 32GB LTE Nexus 9, and now it’s time for the Wi-Fi model to drop down in price. Right now, you can purchase a brand new 16GB Wi-Fi Nexus 9 for just $289.99, which is more than $100 off the price Google is asking for the same tablet.
Don’t miss: Best Android tablets (July 2015)
Want something a little more out of your new tablet? The deal Expansys introduced last month is actually still going on as well. If you’d like to pick up a 32GB LTE Nexus 9 in Indigo Black, you can for the low price of $339.99 ($260 off). Not bad at all!
The Nexus 9 is a great tablet, but most folks tend to think it’s overpriced. It features an 8.9-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1536 x 2048, a NVIDIA Tegra K1 processor clocked at 2.3GHz and backed by 2GB of RAM. It also has a big 6700mAh battery, runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop at the moment, and will be among the first devices to receive the Android M update once Google releases it to the masses.

HTC pulls the One M9+ from shelves in the Netherlands
It was only last month that HTC launched the up scaled variant of its flagship smartphone in Europe and now it’s being removed from the shelves of retail stores in the Netherlands as a result of its 4G LTE connectivity issues.
Independent retailer, Phone House, sent out the following bulletin to its stores: “At the request of HTC, we ask you to withdraw the HTC M9+ immediately from sale. We will let you know how to deal with this further in a few days.”
To provide some explanation for its decision to pull the handset, HTC published this official statement on its website: “We put the quality of its products and providing an optimal user experience first. In that context, [we] are currently investigating the One M9+.
So there you have it, folks. The One M9+ has been pulled from stores in the Netherlands. We currently don’t have any information as to whether any other countries will receive the same treatment, but if it’s an LTE issue, it’s more than likely they will.

Sense 7 for the HTC One (M8) will be paired with Android M
Wondering when your HTC One (M8) will get the latest version of the company’s Sense 7 software? The wait will be at least a few more months.
On Twitter, HTC’s Mo Versi commented on the status of Sense 7 for the 2014 flagship.
Versi, HTC’s Vice President of Product Management, noted that owners of the One (M8) will not see Sense 7 until the major Android M software update. The company has decided that it would be best for the handset’s software to receive a major change at once rather than focusing resources now on Sense 7 and later on Android M. The latter is expected to arrive in October or November; therefore, it probably won’t be until December at the latest for the One (M8) to receive this software update.

HTC “worthless” – Tech giant trading below cash
HTC, one of the biggest Android OEMs on the planet is essentially worthless. The company has taken a massive hit, losing 60% of its stock’s value. Currently the troubled tech giant has more cash on hand than the value of it’s stock which means investors think that the assets the company owns are essentially worthless. HTC’s assets are not only physical things like factories, building and their current stock of products but also their brand which has taken a huge hit in the last year.
HTC had NT47.2 billion cash on hand and their market price has fallen to NT47 billion ($1.5 billion). This counts as a 60% drop in the company’s value this year and almost 10% since June. HTC had been valued as high as NT900 billion in 2011 about two years before the release of the release of the redesigned HTC One M7.
Since then a series of strange advertising choices, small evolutionary changes in their flagship devices and changes at the top of the company have signaled to investors that the path forward for HTC is going to be rocky, if there is one at all. In the third quarter, HTC is forecasting sales as low as 48% below analyst estimates.
In the early days of Android, HTC was the best selling brand in the United States. Google thought so much of the company that they’ve partnered with them on several projects including the Nexus One in 2010 and Nexus 9 in 2014. But after the failure of the One, Butterfly and Desire lines to gain any traction in globally, HTC now sits in peril. It should be no surprise that they’re in trouble right now.
They bet big on the HTC One M9 which many people have seen as a step back from the HTC One M8 and sales back that up. Many tech sites have panned the camera as a regression and the processor, a Snapdragon 810, as reason to avoid the newest flagship. In a day when one failed launch can significantly hurt you, the consequences loom large.
