HTC revenues continue to fall, company has high hopes for the HTC A9

HTC Logo

HTC has saw its revenues fall for the fifth month in a row to NT$6.89 billion in August. The company is down 6.99% this month, and down by 52.62% this year. Suffice to say, things continue to get worse for the Taiwanese company.

HTC saw a revenue of NT$88.83 billion during the first eight months of 2015, which is a 27.97% from just a year earlier.

The Taiwanese company is hoping to see better revenue once it launches the HTC Aero, which will be marketed as the HTC A9. HTC will launch a few new devices during the fourth quarter of 2015, according to industry sources. And the HTC A9 could be one of them.

HTC has high hopes for the A9. But let’s hope this won’t just be another repeat of a flagship device doing extremely well followed by another two-year downward spiral.

Acer’s CEO says merging with Asus is unlikely due to Taiwan’s Fair Trade laws

acer-chromebook-11-c740-acer-ta

It wasn’t too long ago that Asustek was muted to be discussing a takeover of its struggling local rival, HTC after its own mobile division posted a profit. However, the takeover rumour was strongly refuted by HTC shortly after becoming public news. Today, we have Acer’s CEO, Jason Chen, shooting down talk of a merger between itself and Asustek, stating that the joining of the two companies would violate Taiwan’s Fair Trade laws.

A merger between Acer and Asustek would result in a combined market share of over 70% in Taiwan, creating an unhealthy monopoly in the eyes of the government’s regulatory bodies.

That being said, Acer’s CEO isn’t against the idea of the company being taken over by someone. Acer’s stock price has plummeted by 50% since April, and the company made just $5.4 million in profit for the first half of 2015 compared to $15 million the previous year. The trend is continuing, because July’s revenue saw a year-on-year decline of 33%.

All of this makes Acer a target for a hostile takeover, something that Acer founder, Stan Shih, actually welcomes as he believes the buyer could end up buying an empty shell due to the existing management quitting Acer. Whether it’s merely bluster or shrewd business sense, it’s clear that Acer’s situation could result in significant changes ahead for the Taiwanese manufacturer, although a merger with local rival Asustek would appear to be off the cards.

HTC books event for September 6th; will it announce the HTC One A9?

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

Just the other day we heard about the rumoured HTC device called the HTC One A9 – the “A” stands for “Aero”. As if right on cue, HTC has booked an event for September 6th to announce a new device – its invite shows a smartphone’s silhouette amongst nebula-like (galaxy?) clouds accompanied by the Chinese words “Meng Yao”. A literal translation of this comes up with “superior handsomeness” which is a big call, but give HTC’s recent financial problems, going big is something that they are going to have to do.

HTC One A9Whether or not the One A9, or whatever the device is called, lives up to its tagline, it must tick all the boxes if it has any hopes of going up against Samsung and even Apple who will announce its new iPhones just a few days after HTC’s event. Rumours say that the One A9 will have a Quad HD display, a deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 processor, 4GB RAM and an all-metal body – that all sounding good so far, but we all know hardware is just half the battle. Let’s see what HTC shows up with on the 6th.

We weren’t exactly able to translate the text in the image, but the caption next to it reads:

September 6, “Meng Yao,” the listing, so stay tuned!

According to recent rumors and leaks, the device could feature MediaTek’s high end deca-core Helio X20 SoC, a 5.2-inch Quad HD display, 4GB of RAM and a big 3500mAh battery. It’s also rumored to come with 2.5D glass and a full metal unibody design. According to a few leaked images of the device, it looks like it will closely resemble an iPhone 6, as well. Could this be the HTC One A9?

Android Smartphones_HTC_Aero_One-A9_090115Just yesterday we heard that HTC’s upcoming flagship type quality smartphone will be called the One A9. Today, the device might have been caught on camera.

The video below briefly shows us a glimpse of what could be the HTC One A9. HTC has plans to announce a so-called “handsome” smartphone on September 6th in Berlin. The device will include high-end flagship type specifications in addition to an industry first deca-core processor. The device is also expected to include a ground-breaking camera, much improved over the One M9 smartphone that came before it. Recent rumors suggested the device wouldn’t make it in time for IFA 2015, but it turns out the device may be ready ahead of schedule. The video shows a quick glimpse of the upper body of the device showing off a front-facing camera and what looks to be a front-facing flash. Hopefully we’ll find out more over the course of this week.

HTC teases new flagship release date in social media post

HTC has taken to the Chinese version of Twitter to start teasing their newest flagship. Dubbed the MengYao, the newest phone from the struggling Taiwanese tech giant hopes to find some success after the failure of the HTC One M9.

htc-a9

There have been leaks recently of an “HTC Aero” pointing to a second flagship line much like Samsung and LG have been putting out lately with releases early in Spring and in Fall. We don’t know much right now except that HTC is really pumping up the “handsome” angle with this device. The code name for the phone, MengYao literally translates to Handsome Gentleman. The ad on Weibo simply states “September 6, MengYao, Stay Tuned.”

Previously leaks have pointed to a device named the HTC Aero releasing late this year packing a MediaTek Helio X20 SoC, 4 GB of Ram and a an all metal build. We hope that HTC has learned the sins of the HTC One line and given this a unique but upgradeable design that can evolve over time unlike the One which has become stagnate. The failure of the One, among other things, have caused a massive collapse in the value of the company which at one point was trading less than cash on hand, deeming the company basically worthless.

If released in the US, it will become one of the first major flagships to use a MediaTek chip over rivals Qualcomm’s Snapdragon and Samsung’s Exynos chips.

The HTC One A9 is the name of HTC’s next flagship

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

HTC‘s future is looking pretty bleak right now after posting repeated quarters of loss, culminating in the layoff of 15% of its workforce. It’s pretty clear that HTC’s next flagship is going to have a huge weight on its shoulders, and we may have a name to put to that device now: the HTC One A9. Specifically, the “A” stands for “Aero” and it’s rumoured that thanks to the MediaTek Helio X20 processor in it, it’s going to be the first smartphone with a deca-core processor. The name was leaked by none other than @evleaks, and it’s said that the device will be launched either in late 2015 or very early 2016.

Other notable features of the One A9 include 4GB RAM and a Quad HD display. Word is the rear facing camera is also going to be improved. It’s difficult to tell whether HTC is going to be able to recover from this position without a lot of luck and hard work, but we hope for their sakes they can come up with something revolutionary.

What do you think about the HTC One A9? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

According to recent reports, the A in A9 stands for Aero. The new flagship will likely hit the market in late 2015 or early 2016 and will likely be the first ever smartphone to be powered by a deca-core processor.

The HTC One M9 rumors are beginning to heat up. We’re expecting the flagship to include a Quad HD (1440 x 2560 pixels) display, a first of its kind deca-core MediaTek Helio X20 processor backed with 4GB of RAM and an improved rear-facing camera with support for RAW photography.

HTC CEO Peter Chou joins digital production firm to strengthen VR endeavors

HTC CEO Peter Chou Credit: HTC

Every manufacturer worth its salt is entering the VR market one way or another, but very few have managed to impress us like HTC did with the Vive VR headset. This system is very special, and you can bet the Taiwanese manufacturer is putting a lot of time and effort into it. So much that HTC CEO Peter Chou is getting a second gig just to gain more knowledge in digital production.

Peter Chou is to join Digital Domain as an executive director, effective August 30th. This company has been behind the digital production of popular movies, such as Iron Man 3, Tron: Legacy and Her. They are also responsible for animations in famous games like Assassin’s Creed: Unity, Destiny and others. When it comes to digital production, these guys sure know what they are doing.

HTC-Vive_White

The idea is to bring some technical knowledge on VR to HTC, as it is a market the Taiwanese manufacturer has no true experience on. The HTC Vive is already an impressive VR headset, so we can’t wait to see what it’s like after the finalized product hits the store shelves. The commercial release is not expected until next year, though, so we won’t see any this move bearing any fruits soon.

As it stands, the HTC Vive is one of the most exciting VR headsets thanks to its location-aware technology, which uses a bevy of sensors and wall-mounted lasers. While other headsets only allow users to look up, down, left and right, the HTC Vive has you walking around things, effectively granting full immersion. It’s hard to efficiently convey this experience – you just need to try it.

More details will surely come in due time, so let’s keep calm and have Peter Chou do his thing for a while.
