HTC devices to get Android Marshmallow leaks out, HTC One M7 is absent

HTC has had a relatively decent track record with getting software updates to their devices, and their HTC Advantage program has helped with ensuring that its most recent devices continue to get updates for at least two years. HTC owners will no doubt be nervously awaiting news of upcoming updates given the turmoil that has been constantly going on at HTC, but thankfully a leak of the HTC devices to get Android Marshmallow has come out today, hopefully putting some of those fears to bed. The leak was made public courtesy of HTC leaker @LlabTooFeR, and gives a list of 15 devices that could get the latest update, including:

  • HTC Desire EYE
  • HTC Desire 816
  • HTC Desire 820
  • HTC Desire 826
  • HTC One M8
  • HTC One M8s
  • HTC One M8 EYE
  • HTC One E8
  • HTC One M9
  • HTC One M9+
  • HTC One ME
  • HTC One E9
  • HTC E9+
  • HTC Butterfly 2
  • HTC Butterfly 3

Keen eyed readers will notice that there is one notable omission from this list – the HTC One M7. Although it received an update to Android Lollipop, it’s well over two years from the One M7’s release date and we aren’t surprised by this at all. Note that @LlabTooFeR points out that the list is still tentative and that HTC could still cut down the list further so unless you’re rocking a HTC One M8 or HTC One M9, you shouldn’t get too comfortable.

List of HTC devices slated to receive Marshmallow update leaks

HTC_One_M8_BoomSound_Speaker_HTC_Logo_TA

To help address a criticism of HTC that surfaced a few years ago regarding lack of Android updates for their devices, HTC implemented their HTC Advantage program. HTC Advantage is the company’s commitment to provide devices with updates to the Android operating system for at least two years after their release. With Android Marshmallow getting ready to be officially released, HTC will once again be tested against this standard they set for themselves. A new leak lists the devices that supposedly will receive an update to Android Marshmallow.

The devices include smartphones that are part of HTC’s One M9 line, One M8 line, Desire line and their Butterfly devices according to Twitter user @LlabTooFeR. The full list of devices slated to get Marshmallow and HTC’s Sense 7 interface includes:

  • HTC Desire EYE
  • HTC Desire 816
  • HTC Desire 820
  • HTC Desire 826
  • HTC One M8
  • HTC One M8s
  • HTC One M8 EYE
  • HTC One E8
  • HTC One M9
  • HTC One M9+
  • HTC One ME
  • HTC One E9
  • HTC E9+
  • HTC Butterfly 2
  • HTC Butterfly 3

After posting this list, @LlabTooFeR quickly noted the list is preliminary and some of the devices listed may not get Marshmallow. In particular, any device which is low on internal storage like the HTC Desire 816 may find themselves getting skipped over.

Although HTC has committed to providing operating system updates, they have still struggled to meet their deadlines for providing them to users. In the case of these devices, no schedule or target dates have been leaked.

All the colours of the HTC Aero leak out, bears striking resemblance to a certain other phone…

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

We’ve been hearing quite a bit about HTC‘s upcoming mid-range device, the HTC Aero – or HTC One A9, depending on who you ask. Today, leaker @evleaks has provided us with an image that shows the colour palette the HTC Aero is going to be available with. The colours themselves seem nice enough – it’s good to see HTC move away from just fifty shades of grey – but the design of the HTC Aero looks strikingly like the iPhone 6. Maybe we’re crazy, but the bands on the back of the device, and the single speaker on the front of device don’t look very HTC to us.

Now, sure: HTC probably did do metal unibodied smartphones before anyone else, but we have a feeling nobody’s going to buy that once the Aero is announced. As for what’s powering the device, the Aero is rumoured to be using a Snapdragon 617 processor and a 1080p display – the device is also rumoured to be launching with Android Marshmallow and Sense 7, and will be announced on September 29th.

HTC ‘Aero’ leak shows iPhone-like colors, mid-range power

We now know just about everything about HTC’s upcoming One A9 ‘Aero’ smartphone, thanks to phone leaker Evan Blass, aka @evleaks. If he’s right, it’s not the high-end, 10-core model we were expecting, but rather a mid-ranger aimed at style-conscious types, with no less than six color options. The skeptical among us might notice that it vaguely resembles an iPhone 6s, and in fact has three color choices that are nigh-on identical to Apple’s latest handsets (rose gold, carbon gray and silver). But it’s otherwise a pale imitation of that phone (and other HTC One devices), with a middling Snapdragon 617 CPU, 2GB of RAM and a 1080p screen.

That said, it should serve its purpose with a decent-sounding 13-megapixel backside illuminated, optically stabilized camera (4-megapixel selfie cam), fingerprint sensor and MicroSD card expansion. It’s also relatively thin at 7mm and, given the name, we presume lightweight. Despite Mr. Blass’s stellar track record for leaks, we’d again remind you that this is still a rumor, so plan (or don’t plan), accordingly. If it does pan out, though, it’s supposed to arrive in November with carriers like Sprint.

HTC One A9 leaked image shows device in 6 different colors

HTC-Logo-3 (1)

The HTC One A9 has been making plenty of rounds around the rumor mill. You may better remember it as the HTC Aero, though, which is the moniker it has held until recently. We know all about it by now – it’s design, specs, software and even its possible release date. But though we knew there would be 6 colors available, we hadn’t seen them all before.

Today’s leaked HTC One A9 image showcases the device in 6 different hues: Acid Gold, Opal Silver, Deep Garnet, Carbon Gray, Rose Gold and Cast Iron.

htc-one-a9-aero-colors

Looking fancy, right? But it seems the design and build quality will be the only luxurious part of this device, as it is expected to feature mid-end specs. This is not necessarily a bad thing; it could be the best option for those who want a good-looking handset but don’t need too much performance.

Packed inside the HTC One A6 we are expecting to see a Snapdragon 617 processor, 2 GB of RAM, a 5-inch 1080p display, 16 GB of internal storage, a 13 MP main camera, an UltraPixel front shooter, a 2150 mAh battery, microSD support and a fingerprint scanner.

We are probably learning more about this device once it’s announce, come September 29th. Until then, hit the comments and tell us which is your favorite HTC One A9 color!

New leak shows colors of the HTC One A9

htc_one_a9_leak_color_options

Being less than a week away from HTC’s announcement event scheduled for September 29th is yielding a significant uptick in leaks regarding one of the smartphones they are expected to reveal, the HTC One A9. HTC will be competing for attention that day against none other than Google which is expected to officially announce Android 6.0 Marshmallow and their new Nexus smartphones. So it may not be a surprise to see news leaking out to help garner some interest for HTC, like a newly posted image that appears to show several color options for the HTC One A9.

Thanks to Evan Blass (@evleaks) we have our second look at the HTC One A9 just today. The first image was a close-up of the device being held in someone’s hand. This new image looks like it may be some marketing material. The image shows the front, back and one side of the HTC One A9 in six different colors. The colors include Acid Gold, Opal Silver, Deep Garnet, Carbon Gray, Rose Gold, and Cast Iron.

In response to the Twitter post by @evleaks, some have noted that the device shows on-screen buttons, including a home button, in addition to the physical button that has been noted on the device. Most people believe the physical button is a combination fingerprint scanner and home button, but with a software home button, it may just be a fingerprint scanner.

Anyone out there considering this smartphone from HTC?

CyanogenMod now supports more mid-range Huawei, Motorola phones

Cyanogen’s partnership with OnePlus may be over, but the company is still hard at work to make sure its namesake Android ROM will run on just about everything else. According to a new post on the company blog, its been working with device manufactures like Xiaomi, Motorola, Oppo and others to extend official support to a wider array of mid-range Android handsets — and it has a list of devices to prove it.

Specifically, Cyanogen says it now supports both the 2015 Moto E and G, Xiaomi’s Mi3w and Mi4 handsets, a new handset from up-and-coming European manufacturer WileyFox and a whole mess of phones (and variants) from Samsung, HTC and LG — all of which can be viewed and searched in Cyanogen’s officially-supported device wiki. This update also marks the first time since CyanogenMod 7 (we’re on 12 now, for those of you who are counting) that it’s been able to officially support a Huawei device. “It’s nice to see the company supporting the community ahead of the rumored Huawei Nexus,” Cyanogen wrote, noting support for the Huawei Honor 4 and 4x, Ascend Mate 2 and Snapto. “We’re expecting good things here.”

The company seems proud of its expanded support for mid-range devices, but says flagship handsets (teasing the HTC One M9, Galaxy S6 and LG G4) are still being worked on. Either way, it’s good news if you want an affordable phone with CyanogenMod, but aren’t quite ready to go all-in on OnePlus’ original handset.

Tons of new devices have officially been added to the Cyanogenmod family

Cyanogen_New_Logo_February_2015Cyanogenmod has officially expanded support for several new devices from different manufacturers, expanding the list of phones that will support Cyanogenmod releases. This doesn’t necessarily mean that all of these devices have a stable build ready right this second, but they’ll be supported with future releases.

There are some heavy hitters that you’d expect, including devices from the likes of Samsung, HTC, and LG, which cover some specific international versions, but other devices from Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi are making the cut. Even some obscure phones, like Smartfren’s own CM-powered device and WileyFox’s European devices, will be supported going forward. It’s a pretty inclusive list that fills in what were previously niche gaps in Cyanogenmod coverage.

If you’re interested in seeing if your phone made the cut, hit the link below.

HTC to launch updated One M9+ and Butterfly 3 at Sept. 29th event

If you were disappointed to hear that the promising HTC A9 (Aero) will end up being a modest midranger rather than beastly flagship, you may like today’s news a little better.  It seems that HTC has a couple more smartphones up its sleeves for the Sept. 29th event.

The tip comes from an HTC-focused ROM developer on Twitter, @LlabTooFeR.  Not much is shared, only that we should expect updates to two well-known HTC flagships:  the Butterfly 3 and HTC One M9+.

llabtoofer_htc

The Butterfly 3 launched earlier in the year, as the HTC J Butterfly HTV31 in Japan.  So this could simply be market expansion for the device.  But regarding the One M9+, the tweet says that it will be updated.

Recalling the One M9 launch, many were upset that the One M9+ outdid it so quickly (larger screen, QHD resolution, and fingerprint scanner) and wasn’t offered in their market.  We can only hope that HTC has it together now and will widely release a top-end contender with this update.

Because of the fact that HTC’s Sept. 29th event is taking place in Japan, I wouldn’t hold your breathe if you’re in a non-asian market.  But this isn’t a good time for HTC to ignore the rest of the world.

It’s a week away, so stay tuned.

More details emerge on HTC’s September 29 event

htc-logo

HTC is gearing up for its event scheduled on September 29, the same day Google will introduce Android 6.0 and the new Nexus devices. According to a recent twitter post, HTC will announce a minimum of two new devices at the upcoming conference.

Next week HTC will likely announce the Butterfly 3, in addition to an updated HTC One M9+. The Butterfly 3 is expected to be exclusive to the Chinese market. As for the HTC One M9+, it’s currently unknown whether the company will follow the same route as the Butterfly 3 or launch it globally. No details regarding the upcoming device’s specifications have been mentioned. One could expect each to be a slightly improved version over its predecessor. Additional rumors have led us to believe HTC will announce a new mid-range HTC One A9 smartphone alongside what could be the company’s first ever Android Wear smartwatch. We’ll see what HTC brings.
