Updated HTC One M9+ Aurora Edition with 21MP camera, OIS, and Laser AutoFocus set to hit Taiwan in October
It’s getting closer to Google’s announcement on all things Nexus and maybe a device that isn’t, but let’s not forget that HTC also unveiled a couple of handsets today at a press event held in Japan. Besides announcing that the Butterfly would be released from captivity and re-branded as the Butterfly 3 before spreading its wings to international markets, HTC also announced an updated One M9+ Aurora Edition, the specs of which are after the break.
Basically, the HTC One M9+ Aurora Edition is pretty much the same as the M9+ that was announced earlier in the year, albeit with an updated camera. HTC announces One M9+ “Supreme Camera” Edition

Back in April HTC unveiled the One M9+ to the world, giving HTC fans a QHD-equipped variant of its flagship, that also saw the Qualcomm processor traded out for a MediaTek chip, and a few other changes such as a fingerprint scanner inside a front-facing home button. The device initially launched in Asia, and later made its way to Europe as well. At a special event today, HTC announced the Butterfly 3, as well as a new upgraded version of the M9+.
The new version is officially called the One M9+ “Supreme Camera” (Yes, really), trading out the 20MP sensor from the M9+ for a 21MP camera with OIS and laser auto focus. While the M9+ had duo camera lenses, this time the M9+ Supreme Camera offers the laser AF system in the second rear camera’s place. Outside of the upgraded camera, the new M9+ variant is pretty much the same phone as before.
As a refresher, that means you get a 5.2-inch QHD display and a MediaTek MT6795T Helio X10 processor with 3GB RAM. Other specs include 32GB storage, front-facing speakers, a fingerprint scanner, and a 2840 mAh battery.
At least for now, the M9+ Supreme Camera is only slated to arrive in Taiwan, starting October 6th, with a price point of $630. Considering the modest improvements, we sincerely doubt the phone will ever officially make its way outside of Asia.
HTC has officially taken its wraps off the Butterfly 3
Earlier today in Japan, HTC unveiled an HTC One M9+ remake (pictured on the left) and the Butterfly 3 handset (pictured to the right) aimed at international markets.
The HTC Butterfly 3 is a new high-end smartphone with a QHD display coming to international markets. The Butterfly 3 will launch on October 25 in Taiwan with more countries to come.
The handset features a 5.2-inch QHD panel, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 20MP rear-facing camera, a 13MP front-facing camera and 32GB of internal storage space. A 2700mAh battery is built-in and can not be removed. In addition, the handset boosts IPX5 and IPX7 certification for an added durability. However, as far as design goes, it features a plastic build unlike most high-end HTC smartphones. HTC hasn’t announced its plans on where else the handset will launch, but there is still hope the company will add more in the future. We’ll keep you posted.

HTC launches the Butterfly 3 for international markets

HTC launched its J Butterfly smartphone exclusively in Japan back in May and now a version for the international market in on the way, under the new Butterfly 3 name. The handset boasts some cutting edge specifications that arguably make it more of a flagship than this year’s One M9.
The hardware remains the same as before, offering a 5.2-inch display with a QHD (2560×1400) resolution, a Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage with microSD card support if you need more. There is also a 2,700mAh battery, dual front facing BoomSound speakers, Quick Charge 2.0 support, and IPX5 and X7 certifications for water and dust resistance.
One of the more interesting features with the Butterfly 3 is the dual rear camera setup, which offers a 20 megapixel sensor that is able to capture additional depth information, much like the HTC One M8. The rear camera also features optical image stabilisation and a dual LED flash. On the front, there’s a 13 megapixel camera for some high resolution selfies.
Seeing double: New HTC J Butterfly announced for Japan, offers better specs than the M9
The HTC Butterfly 3 is scheduled to arrive in Taiwan on October 20th with a retail price of around $600. The handset is also rumored to be heading to other markets in the future, although HTC is remaining tight lipped about a possible wider global release.
List of HTC models expected to see Android 6.0 updates surfaces
When a new Android version gets announced, it can be both an exciting and frustrating time. Not everyone has the cash to upgrade phones frequently, so we can be left holding our breathe to know if we’ll be able to taste the sweetest treat from Google.
Fortunately for a multitude of HTC users, you can let out a sigh of relief. That is, if this recent leak is accurate. Thanks to the frequent HTC leaker LlabTooFer (via Twitter), we now have a list of HTC devices that will be brought up to speed with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow).
Note that although the Android version will be updated, the Sense UI version will still be 7.0. That isn’t to say there can’t be new features.
Have you been satisfied with HTC’s software support?

HTC teams up with Spotify to generate playlists based on your selfies

HTC and Spotify have joined forces to create a rather fun online tool that can create a Spotify playlist for you based a picture of yourself. The partnership is part of the HTC Desire 626’s promotional campaign and the company is pretty keen to tell you about the phone’s 5 megapixel front facing camera for all your selfie needs.
You can either take a current picture or upload an old one and the website will attempt to analyse your mood based on the picture and will recommend a selection of songs to match how you’re feeling. I say attempt has the results seem to be rather hit and miss, at least when it comes to detecting my bizarre facial expressions. It seems to understand my angry face pretty well though, but I don’t think that Robbie Williams’ Angles is a good suggestion to help me “cool off”.
As for the phone, the HTC Desire 626 was launched back in July as part of HTC’s latest series of affordable smartphones. The phones comes with a 720p 5-inch display, Snapdragon 210 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel rear camera, 5 megapixel front camera and 16GB of internal storage.

In our review, we found the Desire 626’s camera to be rather good for an entry-level smartphone, although the handset is not without its share of flaws.
What are you waiting for, go and see what HTC and Spotify have to say about your facial expressions.
Unannounced HTC One M9e passes through TENAA
Earlier today, an unannounced HTC-branded smartphone passed through China’s official certification database — TENAA. The handset is believed to be the M9e, and judging by the images and documentation included in the filing is a scaled-down model of the standard M9.
The M9e features the same aluminium unibody and 5-inch Full HD display that the M9 does, but will ship with a 2.2GHz octa-core Helio X10 SoC as opposed to the Snapdragon 810 SoC. It will also come with 2GB of RAM instead of 3GB.
All other specifications appear to have been unchanged, so it looks like, that the device will pack a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with dual-tone LED flash, an UltraPixel selfie shooter, 16GB of expandable internal memory and dual front-facing speakers.
