HTC One A9 is now available in the US
HTC has had a difficult year, with the HTC One M9 proving to be less than a runaway hit. As the year closes out, HTC is hoping to win over fans with a handset that is arguably the Android world’s best alternative to the iPhone, offering similar looks yet offering a few extras that the iPhone doesn’t (microSD, quick charging, etc). We’re of course talking about the HTC One A9, a phone that has found itself surrounded it a bit of controversy with many feeling that the phone seems a bit too inspired by the iPhone.
It’s hard to say how well the HTC One A9 will do among casual consumers, but we’ll find out soon enough, as the HTC One A9 is now available in stores in the United States via HTC, AT&T, Sprint, or unlocked from Amazon.

The HTC One A9 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 617 with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage, with microSD for further expansion. Other specs include a 5-inch 1080p display, a fingerprint scanner, hi-res audio, a 13MP main cam, Ultrapixel front cam, and a 2150mAh battery with quick charging. The phone also runs Android 6.0 right out of the box, making it one of the first devices on the market to ship with Marshmallow.
While the specs aren’t bad for a mid-range device, pricing isn’t the cheapest. While it originally arrived for $399, after the pre-order phase it has bumped up to around $500 – depending where you get it from.
For AT&T customers, you can get it for $99 with a two year contract, or $17.34 a month on the Next 30 plan. For Sprint, it’ll cost you $20 a month with a two-year lease. Amazon is offering the 16GB model for $488.90, or $529 for the 32GB model. Lastly, HTC offers the phone “for pre-order” at $399, so you better jump quickly if you still want that price, as it is expected to go up tomorrow.
Sprint and AT&T start selling the HTC One A9
If you are interested in buying the HTC One A9 and want to use the Sprint or AT&T networks for your wireless carrier, then they are ready for you to go ahead and place your order. Both carriers opened up their online sales systems for orders starting today. Both carriers are offering the HTC One A9 in Carbon Gray or Opal Silver.
Sprint offers several payment options including a 24-month lease, their 24-month Easy Pay option, or a 2-year contract. If you opt for the 2-year contract, be ready to lay down $250 after instant rebates, but you will be eligible for a $50 reward card rebate. Easy Pay will run consumers $29.00 per month with zero down. A lease only costs $20 per month and Sprint is offering to pay 2 months of the lease via a credit.
AT&T offers several options through their AT&T Next program with the cheapest on coming in at only $17.34 per month with no down payment for 30 months. If you want to get the phone with no service contract requirements, you can get the HTC One A9 for only $520.

Marshmallow update now pushing out to HTC One M8 GPe

Google may have put the kibosh on the Google Play Edition phone program a while ago, but for owners of the few devices that came out of that program, you’re probably wondering if and when you’ll get some Marshmallow lovin’. For HTC One M8 GPE owners, the update was supposed to hit sometime in October but, unfortunately, HTC would later reveal that the update had been delayed.
For the few out there with the M8 GPE, the good news is that Android 6.0 Marshmallow is finally starting to roll out! The 450.4MB file brings all the stock Android goodness you’d expect from a proper Nexus device, including new permission settings, Doze power savings, Google Now on Tap, tons of bug fixes, and other new features and general improvements.

The arrival of Marshmallow to the HTC One M8 GPE means that HTC now offers two devices with support for Android 6.0, the first being the HTC One A9, which recently arrived with Android 6.0 and the latest version of Sense in tow. Those with older flagships like the One M9 and One M8 (non-GPE) should see the update sometime by the end of 2015, though no other specifics have been revealed just yet.
For those HTC One M8 GPE owners, have you upgraded to Marshmallow yet? If so, what do you think so far?
HTC gives Apple the boot in new One A9 commercial
HTC today released a new “Be Brilliant” full-length commercial for the One A9. It’s without a doubt a strange commercial, but subtly urges society to stop walking around with the same smartphones and “be different”. I think we all know what group of users HTC is referring to there. Instead, you could also “be free” by purchasing a One A9. The jabs at Apple doesn’t stop there, though.
In fact, there’s a scene where the main character in the commercial literally jumps on a table and kicks a plate of apples. A YouTuber asked HTC if there was any symbolism with this scene, and got this response:
“Maybe it was symbolism, maybe it wasn’t. That’s for you to decide.”
We’re going to say that’s symbolism.

The commercial (video above) is almost reminiscent of a Hunger Games trailer (or Apple’s own 1984 ad). HTC even has their own Peeta, Katniss, and loyal following at the end of the clip! So, who’s ready to kick the plate of apples and switch over to the HTC One A9? Any takers?

HTC One A9 to be exclusively available in Topaz Gold at O2 in the UK
UK-based carrier O2 took to Twitter today to announce that HTC’s new flagship device, the One A9, will be available in Topaz Gold on November 12. This colour variation will be exclusively available through the telecommunications provider in the UK.
The HTC One A9 has undeniably created a lot of buzz with its design looking strangely familiar to the latest iteration of the iPhone. It also has decidedly low specifications compared to flagship hardware we’re used to seeing. However, Talk Android’s very own Justin Herrick took the device for a spin, and despite these minor issues, the One A9 is a gorgeous smartphone with a slick interface, promising extremely fast updates.
In addition to O2 announcing its exclusivity with the Topaz Gold colour, they also noted that the One A9 will be available in Carbon Gray as of today. Pricing for the smartphone starts at £33.50 per month with £0 upfront costs.
Any takers?

Deal: HTC Nexus 9 on sale for 40% off while supplies last

When Google launched the HTC-made Nexus 9 last year, some were a bit surprised by the relatively high price of the tablet. Still, when considering all the tech packed inside, it was quite a fair offer. Shortly thereafter however, HTC offered up an unbeatable price for the device (50% off) though it was an extremely limited affair. Now that some time has passed – and the holidays approach – it’s time for some supplantive savings. The Nexus 9 is now being sold at 40% off at HTC’s website, while supplies last.
Pricing is as follows:
16GB WiFi: MSRP $399 on sale for $239.40.
32GB WiFi: MSRP $479 on sale for $287.40.
32GB LTE: MSRP $599 on sale for $359.40.
It should be noted that only Black and White color variants are available for the Wi-Fi model – no Sand unfortunately. For reference, the LTE variant is only produced in Black.

As of the time of publishing, the 16GB variants (both colors) are already sold out.
This offer is limited to residents of the USA, and there is a limit of three tablets per customer. Supplies are limited, thus it would be prudent to act quickly if you’re interested. The sale itself will end on November 4th at 11:59PM Pacific Time regardless.

AT&T will be the first US carrier to offer Blackberry’s Priv
AT&T will begin carrying the Blackberry Priv on November 6th, the company announced on Monday. The phone, which runs Android’s Lollipop OS and features a slide-out physical keyboard, will be available that Friday in both AT&T retail outlets and the company’s website. Specs for the Priv leaked late last month, though the price listed there has since been corrected to an even $700 if you buy it unlocked.

HTC’s One A9 is now available from AT&T
The newest HTC flagship, the One A9, separates itself from any of the company’s previous handsets by having a somewhat low off-contract price with respectable specifications. Consumers interested in the One A9 can buy it directly through HTC for the limited time price of $399 that will soon increase. But HTC hasn’t forgot about working with carriers to enable subsidizes and maximize exposure. Customers with AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon will all have the chance to purchase the One A9. Today, AT&T becomes the first carrier to make the One A9 available.
Here is how AT&T is pricing the One A9:
- Next 24: $17.34 per month for thirty months
- Next 18: $21.67 per month for twenty-four months
- Next 12: $26 per month for twenty months
- Two-year contract: $99
AT&T stores nationwide will start offering the One A9 on Friday, November 6. The carrier is only selling the handset online at this time. Even AT&T customers, though, should be looking at HTC’s current price of $399 because its off-contract and doesn’t require any carrier commitment. There is really no valid reason to choose buying the One A9 from a carrier unless you’re strapped for cash and need to pay for the handset monthly.
