HTC plans to continue flooding the smartphone market with another One device in the near future

htc_logo_one_a9_rocks_TAThe HTC One A9 is barely getting shipped to customers that have pre-ordered, and we’re already hearing some new rumors about what the company is cooking up next. HTC is really, really bad at spacing out device launches, or even launching devices that make sense, and this new phone isn’t bucking that trend at all.

There are two rumored models for this upcoming device, one of which is the flagship-sounding HTC One X9. The other is a less exciting HTC One E56. Regardless of what the device ends up being called, it’ll use a full HD 5.5-inch display with a MediaTek CPU and 2 GB of RAM. There’s a 3,000 mAh battery on the spec list and a 13 megapixel camera with a front-facing UltraPixel camera. That’s not a better phone than the HTC One A9 (or the One M9, while we’re at it) and it muddies up HTC’s already confusing lineup of devices. Did we really need another HTC One device that doesn’t bring anything new to the table?

One step forward, two steps back. Come on, HTC.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Sense 7.0 spotted on HTC One M9

htc_one_m9_marshmallow_leak_16

HTC is struggling to remain in the smartphone market and one of their moves to try to keep buyers interested is a commitment to getting the latest version of Android out to their devices. With the recent release of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, HTC has been hard at work trying to make that happen for the HTC One M9 and the HTC One M8 before the end of the year. Evidence of their efforts surfaced today thanks to Twitter tipster @LlabTooFeR.

In a series of tweets by @LlabTooFeR, we see several examples of Android 6.0 Marshmallow and HTC’s Sense 7.0 user interface running on an HTC One M9. The images include some of the setup screens, a shot of the keyboard, the recent apps task switcher, some of the permission system screens, and some settings. Thus far no information has been shared about how the actual performance has been on the device.

This appears to be a good sign that HTC is very close to being ready with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update on their flagship devices.

HTC Holiday Deals 2015

HTC has kicked off its Holiday Deals today with tiered discounts that apply to all products purchased through HTC’s online US store today.

HTC has three tiers, you can save 15 percent if you spend at least $200, 20 percent when you spend $400 and a 30 percent saving is applied if you spend $650 or more. The deal applies to all HTC products available through the website, including the new One A9 handset. The HTC One X9 is going to be HTC’s next flagship powerhouse

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

While the HTC One A9 is a great little device, it wasn’t exactly the “hero” device that everyone was expecting – unless its superpower is camouflage. While most of us would have expected the HTC One M10 (or whatever its name ends up being) to be the proverbial hero, it appears that HTC isn’t quite done with the 9-series devices yet. According to a leaked teaser on Weibo, HTC is gearing up to release a device called the HTC One X9, which is quite possibly going to be the hero we deserve, but not the one we need right now.

HTC One X9Pictured above, the HTC One X9 is rumoured to have a 5-inch Quad HD display, Snapdragon 820 or Helios X20 chipset, 4GB RAM, 3,500mAh battery and either 64 or 128GB storage. The device is also sleekly designed, but doesn’t appear to have metal everywhere as the One A9 and One M9 does – at least, not on the front of the device. The teaser also seems to make reference to “city smarts”, which seems like a relatively arbitary and vague reference to make, but we’ll have to wait and see what HTC meant by this. Odds are we won’t be seeing the device till early next year so get comfortable.

Report claims HTC cooking up new One X9 flagship

Many may think that HTC is down for the count, but the company has expressed that it’s not stopping. We can’t forget that the yearly cycle will soon refresh, and Spring will come calling for the One M10.

Interestingly enough, that is not the leak we received today. Instead, HTC is allegedly cooking up a new line under the “One” monikor – the One X9.

htc-one-x9

And this guy apparently has all the bells and whistles, unlike the mid-end stature of the newly released One A9. But before you get too excited, I would hold your horses until we get more info. On the promo pic, the X9 shares a close resemblance to HTC’s Butterfly line of phones, which have limited market availability.

The leak fortunately tips some specs to go with that promo shot:

  • Display: 5″ QHD
  • Chipset: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 or MediaTek Helio X20
  • Memory: 4GB of RAM
  • Storage: 64GB or 128GB on-board
  • Cameras: 23MP rear and 4MP (Ultrapixel) front
  • Battery: 3,500mAh

BoomSound is said to make a return, which is apparent on the promo pic by the top and bottom speaker grills. We’re not quite sure what “Packed with city smarts” means. Maybe some location-based software tricks? And the promo pic looks like it shows the return of capacitive buttons.

Anyhow, all this information suggests a beastly phone, worthy of a 2016 flagship. If you’re intrigued, hopefully you’re on board with HTC’s new iphone-y design language. No word on date or market availability yet.

HTC One X9 rumored to be “packed with city smarts” and stunning specs

HTC-Logo-2

If the latest rumor is to hold true, HTC’s line-up is about to get very interesting. The Taiwanese manufacturer’s M series has always been known for housing flagship devices, but it seems there may be a new breed of HTC smartphones in the works.

This rumored handset is said to be named the HTC One X9. We have a set of stunning specs and a nice promotional flyer to go with this murmur, but we would be a bit wary of their accuracy due to the fact that the rumored components look more like they come from an M series handset. And we also can’t stand behind the sources so far.

The flyer simply displays the murmured smartphone, a beautiful background and a quote that says “Packed with city smarts” (whatever that even means). But it’s the stapled specs that have us scratching our heads (and being hopeful that these rumors are true).

HTC-One-X9-Press

Reports claim this phone is to have a 5-inch QHD (2560×1440) resolution, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 (or MediaTek Helio X20) processor, 4 GB of RAM, a 23 MP rear camera, a 4 MP UltraPixel front-facing shooter and 64 GB to 128 GB of internal storage. All powered by a sizable 3500 mAh battery.

The image also shows capacitive hardware buttons and what look like BoomSound front-facing speakers; all in usual HTC fashion. As we said above, it’s hard to say how accurate these details are, though.

Does all of this information add up for you? I believe a phone like this wouldn’t make much sense, unless HTC is thinking of changing its usual naming scheme. This does sound more like an HTC One M device to me, at least considering the specs. We won’t know for sure until more details show up, though. That is, if they ever do. Regardless, it will all be discovered in due time.

But what do you guys think? Are you digging this rumored handset?

Android 6.0 update reaches the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition

android_6-0_marshmallow_fallingSo far, there have been only a select few that have been able to update to Android 6.0. These include the HTC One A9 and Google’s Nexus devices. However, HTC is adding to that list with the extension of the HTC M8 Google Play Edition.

This past week, HTC begun pushing out the Android 6.0 update to its M8 Google Play Edition, not to be confused with the standard HTC One M8. This is due to the lack of HTC’s pre-loaded skin called Sense. This makes it easier to push out the update because it’s handled by Google. The update comes in at around 450MB in size and requires users to have at least 50% battery life prior to installing. It’s also recommended to connect your M8 Google Play Edition to a Wi-Fi network to avoid a high data consumption.

We should see Android 6.0 hitting many high-end devices across many manufacturers in the coming months. We’ll let you know as soon as we can when we’re provided with the details.

HTC is delaying HTC One A9 orders in the US

http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();

We kinda like the HTC One A9 – despite the heated discussions around its appearance, we do like that it comes out of the box with Android Marshmallow and is a generally well-made device. What we don’t like is that HTC has been stuffing around with the US release of the device – and that’s coming from an Australian. There was the whole ordeal of the device being offered at a lower price to start with, and now HTC has been sending emails around to pre-order customers, saying that HTC One A9 orders in the US have been delayed – and if you’re a Verizon customer hoping to get your hands on the HTC One A9, look away now. Here’s the email:

Thank you for ordering the HTC One A9. It’s the phone that gets all the important elements right-including UH OH Protection, and 6 months Google Play Music. When you buy the HTC One A9 from HTC.com, you get more value and greater level of freedom with a special SIM unlocked edition that comes with unique benefits. Your order of the Carbon Grey HTC One A9 will begin shipping on 11/10/2015 based on shipping method.

It’s taking a little longer than expected to get you your Carbon Grey HTC One A9. To make up for it, HTC would like to give you 25% off of accessories to protect and personalize your new phone.

FOR VERIZON CUSTOMERS:
The HTC One A9 is the first CDMA-less device to support both voice and data services over LTE, providing individuals with the flexibility to use the same device on multiple carrier networks. To ensure the best experience for our customers on the Verizon network, we are conducting more extensive testing and certification. As a result, Verizon compatibility on the HTC One A9 won’t be available in December as originally expected. We are working with Verizon to make it available as soon as possible.
If you want to change your order, please contact HTC customer support.

The tl;dr version is that if you ordered a HTC One A9 in Carbon Grey, your shipment has been delayed till the 10th of November. Additionally, if you’re waiting for the Verizon variant of the HTC One A9, the email seems to suggest that the device is now in limbo with the only assurance on release date being “we are working with Verizon to make it available as soon as possible”. All-in-all, a bit of a setback for some, and for others, possibly a deal-breaker.

Let us know your thoughts about the delays to HTC One A9 orders in the US.

HTC One A9 pre-orders get pushed back in the United States

htc_one_a9_back_rocks_TAHTC has sent out an email to all who ordered the company’s glorious One A9 handset. Apparently, pre-order shipments in the United States have been delayed.

HTC has indicated the wait will be multiple weeks depending on your carrier and that it will begin shipping orders on November 10th. Sprint has seen the heaviest delays thus far, but others aren’t far behind. Verizon has also pushed back the shipping date, although no specific day has been mentioned. According to HTC’s press conference, the grey and silver variants will be among the first to ship, with the red and gold versions to follow a few weeks later. However, the company decided to accept pre-orders of all color options going against their previous statement. Up until this point, HTC hasn’t elaborated much on this other than the fact that orders have been backed up.

If HTC seriously wants to change things around, this has not been a good start considering some won’t get their hands on the device they ordered until December depending on color and carrier. We’ll notify you if any changes are made. In the meantime, check out our written comparison of the HTC One A9 and Google’s new Nexus 5X.
