HTC One M9(s) has sapphire glass rear camera, MediaTek SoC, 2GB RAM

HTC M9(s)

HTC apparently has a new variant of its flagship One M9 coming soon, called the One M9(s). The device makes use of some markedly different specs from the original product despite looking remarkably similar. The key is in the specifics, however, as the device has made some change-ups, namely a fresh new sapphire glass coating for the rear camera and different internals from the earlier flagship. It will launch in Taiwan on November 21st.

The HTC One M9(s) will ship with a 5-inch Full HD display, a 2.2GHz 64-Bit Octa Core MediaTek Helio X10 SoC with PowerVR G6200 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board storage, a 13-megapixel f/2.0 BSI rear camera with sapphire cover, and a 4-UltraPixel f/2.0 front camera with Flash and Dual-LED. It will have a 2840mAh battery, and support both NFC and microSD.

The spec listing also makes note of a “Sensor Hub,” however, it is currently unclear as to if this refers to a Nexus 6P/5X-type deal or else something different entirely. Curiously missing is any indication of what Android build will be present, or the fingerprint sensor included on the M9+.

The M9(s) will be made of dual-layer double-anodized aluminum and is currently up for pre-order in Taiwan where it is going to retail for NT $12,900, or roughly $393.

What do you think? Clearly HTC decided to change from a Snapdragon 810 SoC to a MediaTek, as well as decrease the RAM from 3GB to 2GB, however there is a lower price point in-tow and the presence of scratch resistant sapphire glass for the rear camera is definitely a plus.

Hot deal: buy an HTC One M9, get a Desire 626/626s for free

htc-one-m9-95

Everyone loves free goodies, it’s basic human nature. Today HTC is appealing to our nature with their new, and decidedly appealing, promotional offer on the One M9

The smartphone manufacturer’s latest Holiday Hot Deals promotion gets you a free Desire 626 or Desire 626s handset, depending on your carrier preference, on the purchase of a brand new One M9. Verizon and AT&T users who purchase the One M9, which is priced at $649, get a free Desire 626 handset. Meanwhile, customers of T-Mobile, Metro PCS, or Cricket get the Desire 626s.

In case you don’t recall, the Desire 626 was launched in early 2014 and comes with a 5-inch HD display, 13 MP primary camera,  2GB of RAM, MediaTek MT6752 / Snapdragon 410 chipset, and a 2000 mAh battery. You can check out our Desire 626 / Desire 626s review to learn more about the handsets.

HTC’s Hot Deals promotion includes one more bonus. Purchasing the new One M9 also gives the buyer $100 of free Google Play credit, which can be used to buy games, apps, movies, etc. from the Google Play Store.

HTC’s new promotional offer does have a caveat. You are eligible to receive a free Desire 626/Desire 626s, which is worth $179.99, if and only if you purchase a new One M9 handset before the end of today, November 17. Additionally, the offer is valid only until stocks last, and is limited to residents of the United States.

Unable to make up your mind? Reading our HTC One M9 review might help – the handset scored a solid 8.5 out of 10. To summarize, the device is speedy, has an attractive body, but sports a less than impressive rear camera, despite it being a 20 MP module.

Buy a HTC One M9 and get a Desire 626/626s thrown in for free as part of HTC’s Hot Deals promo

HTC_One_M9_Back_TA

HTC is running yet another great Hot Deals promotion, giving away a Desire 626 or 626s when you buy a One M9. It’s a great deal for those that are doing their holiday gift shopping–who wouldn’t want a One M9 or Desire 626 in their stocking come Christmas morning?

The way it works is that you purchase a One M9 and HTC will ship you a Desire 626 or 626s as well, depending on what carrier you’re with. You’ll get the Desire 626 if you’re on Verizon or AT&T, while the Desire 626s is for those on T-Mobile, Metro PCS, or Cricket.

Obviously this deal would be much sweeter if the One A9 was included in it, but for some reason, HTC isn’t including its latest and greatest this time around.

Keep in mind that this promotion is exclusive to those in the US, and the offer will expire once all available stock has been sold or the day, November 17, is over, whichever comes first.

Anyone picking up a One M9 as part of HTC’s Hot Deals promotion? Despite it getting close to almost a year old, it still has great hardware and won’t leave you hanging dry. Thoughts?

[Deal] UK retailer Argos discounts the white 16GB Wi-Fi model of the Nexus 9 to just £149

nexus 9

With Black Friday fast approaching, it seems many retailers are trying to steal a march on their competitors by cutting prices early on electronic goods. In the UK, it doesn’t get much better than the HTC manufactured Nexus 9 16GB (white), which can be found heavily discounted from Argos for just £149 ($226), which is basically half price.

While the white Nexus 9 16GB is down to just £149, the black version is a tad more expensive at £199($302). Both devices are available to order online or in-store and for collection or delivery to your home depending on stock availability. In certain areas, you might be lucky enough to qualify for the Fast-Track same day delivery service as well.

The promotion runs until the end of today (November 17), so there isn’t too much time to decide. Oh, and if the price still isn’t low enough for you, you’ll also receive a £10 voucher to spend on your next purchase because the Nexus 9 16GB costs more than £100. This means that theoretically, you can get the white Nexus 9 16GB for £139 (by including the voucher).

Priced at just £149, the white Nexus 9 16GB is an absolute bargain and the perfect Christmas gift, especially when you consider its specifications and that it’s running the latest version of the world’s most popular operating system, Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Let us know if you plan on buying one.

CyanogenMod 12.1 nightlies for the HTC One M9 finally arrive

htc one m9 review aa (2 of 34)

Do we have any fans of CyanogenMod nightlies around here? How about HTC One M9 owners? Well, we are bearing good news for you today. It’s always nice to hear a new device is enjoying nightly support from the most popular 3rd-party ROM around, so today we are glad to let you know HTC‘s flagship phone has just started getting this treat.

The CyanogenMod team has uploaded the new files to their downloads page and now you can explore the nightly adventure with your shiny HTC One M9. Just head over to the website, download the software and install it.

htc one m9 review aa (27 of 34)

By the way, remember that tinkering with your smartphone could be dangerous. You might end up with a bricked device. And to make matters worse, these procedures may void your warranty, leaving you in the dark if something goes wrong. Be careful and do your research!

Also – what the heck are nightlies?! These are considered experimental versions of a software that is under development. The CyanogenMod team will continue to update the code and upload the updated software on a daily basis.

Other HTC One M9 stories:

Users will be at the bleeding edge of the software’s advancement, and they will get to test all those nifty new features before others, but this does come with its repercussions. ROM nightlies are not for the faint of heart; you are likely to encounter bugs, which is why I really wouldn’t recommend this software to anyone who wants reliable stability.

Those who are adventurous will love playing around with CyanogenMod 21.1 nightlies, though! How many of you have been waiting for this to happen?

HTC One X9 passes through TENAA

HTC_One_X9_TENAA_111515_3HTC has yet another smartphone in the works. The HTC One X9 has just made its way through TENAA.

The TENAA listing shows off a 5.5-inch full-HD display, a 2.2GHz octa-core processor, 2GB of RAM, a 13MP rear-facing camera and a 5MP shooter on the front side. The One X9 has 16GB of internal storage which is expandable via a built-in microSD card slot, which can provide some additional space. The design can be very much related to the Nexus 6P, you’ll see what I mean, with a mixture of HTC’s One A9 aluminum uni-body design.

Unlike the previously launched, HTC One A9, the One X9 will come pre-installed with Android 5.0.2 aimed at a different market. It’s only a matter of time before a release date pops-up along with the device’s availability.

HTC One X9 specs and shots revealed by China’s TENAA

In the past week or two, the One X9 has seemingly taken over all news related to the HTC. Rumors and leaks have been flowing freely, and now we finally have some more concrete details, courtesy of China’s TENAA. The telecommunications agency has not only photographed the glorious gadget in a series of proper poses, but also revealed some of the specs:

/* see gallery_shortcode() in wp-includes/media.php */

The device looks to be retaining the flatter back side as seen in the HTC A9, as well as a return to BoomSound speakers. Perhaps more importantly however, the smartphone is also moving the company’s oft-criticized front branding to the top of the device. Onlookers will be perhaps disappointed, however, to note that the face of the phone has capacitive buttons, something that is more noteworthy for the fact that unlike the A9, no fingerprint sensor is present.

Specs reveal that the device has a Full HD 5.5-inch display, an unknown 2.2GHz Quad Core SoC, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of on-board storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front camera, and microSD support. The device is detailed as being 153.2mm X 75.9mm,  7.99mm thick, and weighs 174 grams.

The “other” part

For better or worse, these pictures will only serve to further the blossoming discourse that has begun, asserting that HTC has “copied” the Huawei Nexus 6P, or even the Lenovo PHAB Plus.  While that may ultimately be for the individual to decide, the Taiwnese company has made a point to remind people that it actually started the whole metal casing trend.

Wrap Up

Please note that, despite the fact the source is an official agency, regional variations and/or changes may still be possible to the device. Likewise, HTC itself has yet to officially announce anything yet, thus any concrete information regarding pricing and availability will need to wait until said PR event occurs.

With that said, any takers?

HTC One X9 render surfaces, rear camera is strangely similar to the Nexus 6P

HTC-One-X9-render

Right off of the heels of HTC’s One A9 event, the Taiwanese-based company is already planning to launch a new smartphone. The handset said to appear in Q1 2016 is rumored to be the One X9, and according to a new render, its rear camera is strangely similar to the Nexus 6P.

HTC was already accused of copying the iPhone 6’s design pattern, and now the new render is indicating that the company could be taking some design hints from Google and Huawei in its new One X9 handset. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. After all, there’s only so much you can do to make a smartphone unique. On top of that, there’s plenty of other handsets out there that are sporting rear camera visors.

One thing to note about this render is that the bezels could be some of the slimmest we’ve seen from HTC yet. The render by no means screams premium, but the One X9 could potentially be one of the slimmer handsets from HTC.

Keep in mind that this is just a render and is by no means anything official. Initial rumors indicate that the One X9 could sport a 5.5-inch Full HD display, a MediaTek processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, a 13-megapixel rear camera, a 4-Ultrapixel front camera, and a 3,000mAh battery.

All we know for sure is that the One A9 is a nifty handset, and it might not be time for HTC to begin flooding the market with mid-range handsets while revenue continues to crumble.

HTC Releases first One A9 Marshmallow kernel source files

HTC One A9

Now that the HTC One A9 has been released, HTC has made open source kernel files available at the HTC Developer Center. Unfortunately, the only models supported are the Austria, Germany, Spain, Turkey, and Arabic-speaking nations, with no US support as of right now. There will almost certainly be US support added in the near future, just as there was for Lollipop on the previous HTC models.
The size for the download is 205 MB for all models. There’s no code for the Google Play edition of the M8, despite the fact that the update has already been released. These kernel source code files will allow developers to modify the HTC stock OS to make their special ROMS that we all know and love.
