HTC Flyer 2 with 3D Camera?

3D.. the biggest gadget gimmick of all time and some manufacturers were silly enough to go with it (for differentiation’s sake). Just look at the LG Optimus Pad (G-Slate in the US) or watch out for the upcoming Asus Eee Pad MeMo 3D.

HTC might be among those big names with a 3D tablet and thus dual cameras – possibly with a HTC Flyer 2, if this image below is to be believed, if it’s not the most easily photoshopped image ever. HTC is already in the 3D dual camera game with the Evo 3D smartphone. Other than the image above, we’re left to speculate. Speculate features like.. solar panels!

HTC rolling out unlocked bootloaders to select phones in August

HTC is rocking the world this Sunday evening with an announcement on its Facebook page, stating that, as promised, it’s ready to begin rolling out unlocked bootloaders to the global HTC Sensation in August, followed by the Sensation 4G on T-Mobile and the EVO 3D on Sprint. The process is two-fold: first, HTC pushes a “maintenance release” to the phones, but this won’t mean a thing until step two — releasing the actual unlocking tool — is complete in early September. This all sounds like a sure thing for the global HTC Sensation, but the major hurdle the company faces in the US is carrier approval. In order for it to push out the update, T-Mobile and Sprint first must give the final go-ahead for the Sensation 4G and EVO 3D, so nothing here is completely set in stone until then.

Fortunately, HTC doesn’t plan to stop there. According to its Facebook page, it will “continue rolling out the unlocking capability over time to other devices as part of maintenance releases and new shipments.” There was no word on which handsets will receive the capability or when we can expect to see it. Naturally, with the tight grip US carriers have on subsidized handsets, it’s possible you won’t reap the benefits despite HTC’s good intentions.

Temporary Root for HTC Evo 3D and HTC Sensation achieved

Developers have done it again! HTC Evo 3D and HTC Sensation have both obtained temporary root access. This opens the door for app developers to jump in and test their apps, which need root access, for compatibility.Though it is a temporary root, which implies the device will lose shell access when restarted, it is a good step forward towards achieving a permanent root. The same folks who developed the temp-root tool are also on the way to develop a tool for gaining S-OFF condition. Accordingly, they have named the tools as ‘Fre3vo’ and ‘Fre3dom’. While ‘Fre3vo’ is a temp-root acquiring tool, “Fre3dom” will achieve S-OFF on HTC Sensation as well as Evo 3D.

HTC EVO 3D review

The first time we saw the rumored Supersonic we were blown away. HTC and Google had just wowed us with the Nexus One, and here we were looking at something even better — a 4.3-inch phone with WiMAX wrapped in a white body. This prototype was buggy and had abysmal battery life, but it was real. Four months later it landed in our hands at Google I/O. We’re of course talking about the EVO 4G which went on to become a runaway hit for HTC and Sprint as the first ever 4G smartphone in the US. And here we are a year later with the HTC EVO 3D, the legitimate heir to Sprint’s mobile kingdom — at least until the Motorola Photon 4G comes along. When we first played with the 3D-capable handset at CTIA we were suitably impressed, but we left with a lot of unanswered questions. How do the 1.2GHz dual core processor and qHD display affect battery life? Is 3D a compelling feature or just a gimmick? What is 2D camera performance like with the lower specced camera? Is the EVO 3D a worthy replacement for the EVO 4G? Find out in our review after the break.

HTC Sensation review

A hotly anticipated smartphone with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, a “Super” 4.3-inch screen, and a manufacturer-skinned version of Android 2.3 — we must be talking about the Samsung Galaxy S II, right? Not on this occasion, squire. Today were taking a gander at HTCs Sensation, a handset thats just begun shipping in Europe under a short-term Vodafone exclusive and which should be making its way to T-Mobile in the USA early next month. By beating its stablemate the EVO 3D and Motos Droid X2 to the market, the Sensation becomes the worlds first 4.3-inch smartphone with qHD resolution, while also serving as the debut phone for HTCs Watch movie streaming service and Sense 3.0 UI customizations. That leaves us with an abundance of newness to review, so what are we waiting for?

HTC Flyer hands-on video

HTC’s first attempt at tackling the tablet market, the HTC Flyer has landed in the T3 offices and so we have compiled a gallery of hands-on images with the 7-inch device.

Available to buy now priced £599.99 as a standalone device the HTC Flyer, first unveiled at Mobile World Congress back in February, comes equipped with Google’s Android 2.4 Gingerbread mobile operating system with an upgrade to the tablet centric 3.0 Honeycomb reportedly already in the works.

Touting a 7-inch display with a 1024 x 600p resolution the Flyer’s spec sheet is plumped by the inclusion of a 1.5GHz single core processor 1GB of RAM and HTC’s hugely popular Sense UI skin running over Google’s Android OS.

With full Flash 10 and HTML 5 compatibility, the HTC Flyer comes boxed with a HTC Magic Pen stylus for note taking and improved user interaction with a 5-megapixel rear mounted camera with 720p HD video recording capabilities joins by a 1.3-megapixel forward-facing snapper.

HTC Flyer review

Over the past couple of years, HTC has rapidly built up an enviable reputation (and bank balance) in the smartphone space with a succession of feature-rich, smartly designed, and innovative handsets. The HD2 introduced us to the 4.3-inch form factor, the EVO 4G ushered in the era of 720p video recording, and the Legend wrapped itself inside a never-before-seen aluminum unibody enclosure.

Netflix releases Android app for select HTC phones, Samsung Nexus S

Well, it looks like the LG Revolution won’t be the first Android phone to get Netflix after all. The app has just hit the Android Market and is currently available for the HTC Incredible, Nexus One, Evo 4G, and G2, plus the Samsung Nexus S. As you might expect, there’s not a lot of surprises in terms of functionality — you can resume watching where you left off on your TV or computer, and the app will allow you to manage your instant queue in addition to letting you simply browse movies. On its official blog, Netflix explains that while the app is currently limited to phones with “requisite playback support,” it anticipates that many of the “technical challenges will be resolved in the coming months,” and that it will be able to “provide a Netflix application that will work on a large majority of Android phones.” That’s some curious wording, to be sure, and a notable change from earlier talk that suggested only certain Qualcomm processors would support the necessary DRM for Netflix. Also not supported at the moment: Canada. If none of that precludes you, however, you can hit up the Android Market link below to try it out for yourself.
