[LEAK] Apparently this is the All New HTC One being used in Public

the all new htc oneWith the announcment of the All New HTC One only a few weeks away, it’s not surprising that the number of leaks have increased; we now know that the All New HTC One will be coming to Verizon and AT&T and we’ve seen various blurry photos of the device being spotted in the wild. Today, we get yet another two photos of the device, previously codenamed the HTC M8, the first as it is being used to take a photo of another photo, and the second of someone having their photo taken.

the all new htc oneTo conceal the identity of the persons involved in this leak, they’ve had their face censored in MSPaint, and we’re guessing these photos have actually been taken in HTC‘s native Taiwan seeing as these look like they were taken in the Taipei 101 tower. While this isn’t exactly anything we haven’t seen before, it is probably the first time we’ve seen the camera app in operation on the device, though someone who owns a current HTC One would be best to point out any differences.

What do you think about these leaked photos? Are you considering getting the All New HTC One when it is announced on March 25th? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

[LEAK] The all new HTC One seemingly confirmed as official name for the HTC M8

The all new HTC OneWith the biggest of the press conferences at MWC 2014 over, our eyes are now fixed on the March 25th event where it’s expected that HTC will be announcing their new flagship smartphone, allegedly called “the all new HTC One“. Codenamed the HTC M8, the device has been spotted in various leaked photos, most recently earlier today, and as far as we can tell, it indeed looks like a slightly newer HTC One. It looks like that name has been confirmed by evleaks who tweeted what looks like some marketing material for the new device, as seen above.

It’s definitely not the catchiest name, but it serves its purpose. The all new HTC One is expected to be released with some very interesting hardware including a dual-sensor rear camera which could change mobile photography as we know it. HTC doesn’t appear to be too fussed about the specifics of its upcoming device though, instead spending time having a go at Samsung following the release of its Samsung Galaxy S5 flagship, with tweets like these:

http://androidspin.com/2014/02/03/htc-m8-looking-launch-late-march-rumor/What do you think of the all new HTC One’s name? Think it’s a good name, or think it’s a bit of a dud? Let us know your opinion in the comments below.

All New HTC One Gets Photographed by Mr. Blurrycam

all-new-htc-one-2

With MWC wrapping up, and all the Galaxy S5 backlash ceasing, there is still another phone to look forward to. Yes, the “All New HTC One” is a pretty dumb name for the new flagship, but as long as a packs a punch and has a couple new and unique features, we can look past the barely a name, name. The New HTC One has been HTC’s worst kept secret, given that it seems to want to be photographed where ever it may be.

New images of the New HTC One showed up on HardForum.com that were taken by Mr. Blurrycam. The images show us the silver variant of the new phone in what looks like a clear case. Makes the phone not look so polished like it did in recent pictures, and we get to see that dual-camera once again that a lot of people seem to not be a fan of. Let us know what you think about the new images, and if you are excited for the New One. March 25th will be the day, and hopefully people are more forgiving than they were with the S5.

HTC Teases the All New One in a Pretty Funny Video

htc-all-new-one-video

HTC might not be too brilliant when it comes to marketing their devices, but a new video that landed today might steer them in the right direction. A new video segment called ” Technical Translation” hit their YouTube channel today, and it featured probably the best thing about the phone. BoomSound.

The video shows a smart scientist type guy, seeking the aid of a normal dense minded human being. Put them together and you got a recipe for success. What is great about it though is that they tease the “All New One” and do so in a very funny way. So check it out and let us know what you think of it.

HTC teases the ‘all new HTC One’ in official video

I remember how everyone was excited that HTC will reveal the successor to HTC One at the Mobile World Congress, but instead they decided to unveil the new flagship on March 25th in New York and London. Why? Probably HTC didn’t want the Samsung Galaxy S5 to steal their thunder, however delaying it is making us even more curious, but that’s not it for HTC as they decided to come up with a teaser. They are calling it the “all-new HTC One”, and in the video below, you will see a guy telling you about BoomSound on HTC One, and then he will take out the ‘all new HTC One’ from his pocket. Want to know more? Check out the video below.

Well, what we know that the successor will feature a better sound quality, but that’s not at all. Anyway, still a month to go, so you better stay tuned.

Do you think the latest HTC flagship will be good enough to take on the Samsung Galaxy S5?

[Discussion] What’s Wrong With Plastic Smartphones, And Is Metal Really Better?

What's Wrong With Plastic SmartphonesThe debate of whether plastic or metal is a better material for smartphones has raged as long as anyone cares to remember, of course reaching its climax in 2013 with the release of the aluminium-encased HTC One and the plastic all-rounder, the Samsung Galaxy S4. That argument has yet to come to a logical conclusion (whether or not logic is generally used in these discussions is a different matter completely) and with the imminent release of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and The All New HTC One, the battle of metal vs plastic has again been brought to the fore. In that light, let’s take a look at what’s wrong with plastic smartphones, or at least, the perception of this, and why people believe metal to be better.

What's Wrong With Plastic Smartphones

There are plenty of rumours about what the Galaxy S5 is going to be made of: there is talk of the Galaxy S5 adopting a metal construction while other reports say that it will end up adopting the faux-leather back cover seen on the Galaxy Note 3. Both of these rumours could be true in their own right, but then there’s also the rumour of two variants, a premium and standard edition. It’s possible that Samsung will give the premium version the more ‘premium’ treatment with metal whereas resorting to the ‘cheaper’ plastic for the standard edition, but I guess what the issue at hand is, what exactly makes metal a better choice for a smartphone.

While at the heart of the discussion is obviously personal preference, we’ll deal with that a little later; I’d like to first address the practical and physical aspect of the debate. Metal is a material that humanity has now dealt with for many years and we’re all very familiar with its properties; from a smartphone perspective, it provides a very protective shell with high tensile strength, something that is rarely replicated with other materials. Converse to this, plastic’s strength can never really be compared to metal’s, in a general sense, as metal’s method of preparation ensures that it will inevitably be harder and much stronger, from a materials perspective. Applied to a smartphone, however, I think plastic comes into its own.

The ‘strength’ of a phone’s construction, I feel, has been given a fairly arbitrary interpretation in today’s media; we are generally quite quick to assume that metal is more premium feeling and we know it is a stronger material, therefore it should be better for our smartphones. If, however, you take a look at all the hyper-protective cases available on the market, you will notice they all have one particular characteristic in common: they all incorporate an absorption system that usually relies on give. More specifically, this is quite similar to the idea of crumple-zones on vehicles where the impact of a crash is absorbed by the car’s chassis rather than transferred in its entirety to its occupants. In the same way, these cases distribute destructive forces away from your device when it hits the ground.

In a similar way then, in the absence of a case, the construction of your phone has a similar mandate; to direct damaging forces away from the phone’s internal electronics. Perhaps most telling about metal devices is the fact that they have no give; metal does not warp or bounce, therefore if a HTC One is dropped, the exterior of the One is likely to dent, as is often documented. Conversely, a plastic device that is dropped is unlikely to suffer the same kind of permanent defect, though in extreme cases, the cover itself may snap. As you can see then, plastic is in no way less appropriate for a smartphone than metal; they simply have different abilities, both with their own advantages in specific scenarios.

Now, moving on to the question of whether one material or the other feels ‘premium’, this can only ever be a personal preference. It can be said that a brushed aluminium object may be one of the nicest objects to hold in the world, but plastic can be just as smooth, if not smoother (on a molecular level). It’s an impossible argument to win as everyone prefers something different in their own personal device, and it’s worthwhile to remember that before you question somebody for liking something “they shouldn’t”.

What's Wrong With Plastic SmartphonesThe purpose of my discussion here is not to paint the picture that either plastic or metal is superior as a material for a smartphone, as both have their pros and cons, and at the end of the day, it is down to a person’s personal preference. Rather, the point of this article is to perhaps encourage more intellectual discussion between opposing parties in this debate and try to discourage blind ‘fanboyism’, which unfortunately many conversations tend to boil down to; it’s often one thing to say you prefer something, but entirely another to accept the disadvantages and consequences of your choice.

But enough about what I think: what’s your opinion on metal or plastic, and why do you prefer it?

New HTC One 2014 Shows Up in Silver and Gray Press Render

htc-m8-silver

The HTC M8, or All New HTC One, shows up in silver and gray today brought to you by evleaks. Now as you can see, it looks like all the other renders, but I find that the gray looks more black than gray. I guess it is a dark gray, and if I had to choose between the three colors it is going to come in, I would definitely choose gray.

The New HTC One will be unveiled on March 25th, with a double event hosted by HTC in New York and London. Let us know which color you plan on choosing when the New One comes out.

T-Mobile HTC One’s KitKat update coming this week, AT&T “likely” next week

T-Mobile and AT&T HTC One owners waiting for the update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat don’t have to wait too much longer.

On Tuesday, Jason Mackenzie, president of HTC America, took to Twitter and answered a few customer questions about the updates.

Mackenzie said that the update for the T-Mobile version will be coming later this week, while the update for the AT&T version will be “likely last week of Feb(ruary),” which is already next week.

The update for all US versions of the One were originally expected before the end of January, but carrier testing took more time than HTC anticipated.

Once the update arrives, it should hold all you HTC One owners over until “The All New One,” the rumored HTC M8, is announced March 25.
