HTC America had made it official; The HTC One M9 will be available for purchase beginning on April 10.
The HTC One M9 was announced just a few short weeks ago and now it seems we wont have to wait long before we can get our hands one. HTC America today made a live announcement where they stated that the HTC One M9 will be available for purchase here in the States beginning on April 10. This in an interesting date, as it was reported that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will also be released on that same date. Maybe HTC and Samsung decided to coordinate their release dates as they did their announcements.
HTC’s latest flagship will come with 5-inch screen, Snapdragon 810 processor, Adreno 430 GPU, 3 GB of ram and 32 GB of internal storage. For more information regarding the HTC One M9 or to see the official announcement, click on the link below.

U.S. availability for the HTC One M9 begins April 10th

During the company’s “Uh-Oh” presentation this morning, HTC announced that the new One M9 handset would be available in the United States starting April 10th. According to HTC’s Jason Mackenzie, the phone’s availability will vary based on carrier. Also, Mackenzie confirmed that we will not see a Google Play Edition HTC One M9.
The U.S. launch of the HTC One M9 coincides with the global launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, which begins the same day. With that said, it’s now clear that HTC wants to compete directly with the best that Samsung has to offer.
Availability in the United States wasn’t the only thing HTC announced at its presentation, though. The company also launch its new Uh-Oh protection plan, which will give users a free one-time replacement if their One M9 or One M8 handsets suffer a broken screen or any water damage. The coverage lasts for the first 12 months of having the device, and all users are automatically signed up for the service upon purchasing the smartphone.
If you’d like to get some more information on HTC’s newest flagship, head to our hands-on and first impressions post here. Now that we know the One M9 is launching in the U.S. on the same day as the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, which one will you pick up?
HTC One M9+ arriving in late March-early April says @upleaks

Remember the HTC Hima Ultra rumors that popped up in the run-up to the official launch of the One M9? Well, @upleaks has just revived the rumor, stating that the handset will be heading to market under the HTC One M9+ name tag.
As well as the new name, the leak also says that the M9+ will be made available in Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The handset will allegedly make an appearance towards the end of Q1 or possibly in early Q2 this year.
Confirmed:Hima_Ultra will be going to the market as HTC One M9+(not Plus), and I was wrong it will be available in EMEA too…
— @upleaks (@upleaks) March 18, 2015
Although hardware specifications are being kept under wraps, @upleaks suggests that the One M9+ won’t be using the same Snapdragon 810 processing package as the standard One M9. Instead, the handset is said to come equipped with a MediaTek SoC, possibly the company’s flagship MT6795. The MT6795 is a 64-bit octa-core processor, featuring a similar 4x Cortex-A57 + 4xA53 CPU design as the Snapdragon 810, but packing a PowerVR G6200 GPU.
Rumors have previously suggested that the Hima Ultra, or One M9+, will also feature a larger 5.5-inch display, possibly with a QHD (2560×1440) pixel resolution, which would make sense based on the name.

HTC UH OH Protection: 1 year free replacement for cracked screen or water damage
It happens. You drop your phone. It gets wet. Life gets in the way. And, sadly, for a lot of us, this sort of thing happens within the first year of owning a smartphone. HTC, recognizing this, and seeing an opportunity, has introduced a terrific new program to address this situation.
Called UH OH Protection, it’s a service plan that comes free of charge with HTC’s smartphones. Essentially, it works like this: if your HTC One M9 ends up with water damage or a cracked screen in the first year, HTC will replace it for free. Period. What’s more, HTC will even extend you a free replacement should you switch wireless providers in the first 12 months.
How does it work? Simple. You reach out to HTC either through phone or chat. From there you have two options:
- You have a replacement model sent to you the next business day; HTC will hold $299 on your credit card until they get your old one back.
- You send the damaged device in first and HTC sends you a new one within two days of receipt. No credit card holds required for this option.
For those of you who make it through the first year without any UH OH situations, HTC has something special for you, too. Customers who do not take advantage of the program automatically receive $100 towards the purchase of a future HTC One smartphone.
HTC is launching the UH OH Protection program with its One M9 smartphone, which is expected to go on sale shortly. If you’re interested in learning more about UH OH Protection, HTC is hosting a live Q&A today at 12:00PM EST/9:00 PT.

Uh-Oh: HTC’s new warranty program offers some serious benefits (US only)

HTC is extending its Advantage warranty program with new benefits and a longer validity period. The new program is called Uh-Oh, and while the name is funny, the benefits it offers are nothing to laugh at.
Customers who sign up for Uh-Oh will receive a free one-time replacement if their One M9 or One M8 suffers a broken screen or any water damage. The coverage lasts for 12 months from the purchase of a device, and all users are automatically signed up upon purchasing a device. Like Advantage before it, the Uh-Oh program will be available in the United States only. It’s not clear yet if other devices besides the M9 and M8 will be included, but we know for sure that Desire series phones are not covered.
Compared to last year’s Advantage, the new Uh-Oh doubles the coverage time and extends it to water damage, one of the most common ways to ruin a smartphone. Even if you don’t damage your phone, there are some benefits – HTC will give you a new device if you switch carriers (you have to give back the old one), and, if you don’t use any of these replacements, you will get $100 credit to use against a future HTC One purchase.
For more details, HTC will be holding a live customer Q&A session with US president Jason Mackenzie from 12PM ET/9AM PT. Watch the live stream here. Mackenzie is pretty confident that Uh-Oh will help differentiate the M9: “Our competitors look at cracked screens and broken phones as a way to milk more money from [their] customers,” he said. “We see it as a way to change the game, and give customers a premium experience with a premium product. We think the Uh Oh Program is something that will tip people over the edge.”
Uh-Oh looks like a nice little bonus for One M9 buyers, especially if you’re a butterfingers like me (and you don’t like bulky cases.) Too bad it’s US-only at this point.
Is this warranty program something that would sway you towards picking up the M9 when it becomes available later this month?
HTC’s “Uh-Oh” service will offer a one-time replacement of your broken device
HTC will be hosting an event tomorrow called “Uh-Oh,” and if it’s anything like HTC Advantage that they did last year with the M8, this will be another program to offer you a one-time replacement of your device in case you bust it up. The “Uh-Oh” program goes a bit beyond six months of cracked screen replacements, though.
The broken phone coverage period will reportedly be extended to a full year instead of six months, and it does cover everything that happens to the phone, including water damage, not just busted glass. There are a handful of other benefits that will come along with this new program, too, including support for switching carriers. The details are a little fuzzy on that, but it’d be nice if HTC could help further subsidize the price of a device if you wanted to jump to another carrier halfway through your contract.
There’s also supposedly a trade-in program for devices in the works that will offer potential buyers up to $100 towards a new HTC One. HTC certainly won’t be the first (or last) to try to use trade-in incentives to switch other customers over to their brand of devices.

HTC planning ‘Special Announcement’ for the U.S. on Wednesday March 18th
Tomorrow, March 18th, HTC will be live streaming a “Special Announcement” that will be broadcast on HTCAmerica’s YouTube channel. HTC will stream its big “Uh-Oh” announcement Wednesday at 9am PT

HTC is counting down the hours until it’s big “Uh-Oh” announcement, which will begin on Wednesday, March 18th at 9am PT (11am CT). As of right now, we’re not quite sure what the term “Uh-Oh” means in this case. HTC has posted the countdown video on its site, and you can find it by heading to HTC.com/us/uh-oh.
The HTC event that’s happening tomorrow was alluded to by the company’s own Jason Mackenzie just yesterday. On Twitter, he said:
HTC has a BIG announcement for US customers on Wednesday. #HTCOneM9
While Mackenzie didn’t specify what details will be outed in the announcement, we have a feeling that it has to do with the One M9‘s U.S. availability. Multiple carriers in the United States have announced that they’ll eventually carry the One M9 sometime in “early Spring”, though we haven’t heard any information beyond that.
Last year when HTC announced the One M8, the company made it available exclusively on Verizon that same day. Needless to say, that got customers pretty excited, so we wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what we hear tomorrow. For now that’s just speculation, so we’ll need to wait for official word from HTC during the “Uh-Oh” event. If you’d like to watch the event, you can check out the YouTube video below. If not, Android Authority will surely keep you updated as HTC announces more details.
If the HTC One M9 becomes available tomorrow, will you pick one up?
Samsung Galaxy S6 does not support all features of the Android 5.0 Camera2 API
It was revealed yesterday that the Android 5.0 update on the Sony Xperia Z3 did not introduce the camera features from stock Android. Known as the Camera2 API, these features introduce the likes of RAW image capture and some other crucial features. It has now been revealed that even the Samsung Galaxy S6 , Galaxy S6 Edge and the HTC One M9 are missing these Camera2 API features.
The Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge reportedly don’t have the .dng or RAW image capture support. The two devices are also said to be lacking shutter speed control, which might come as bad news for prospective buyers of the two flagships.
SpectraStudy has compiled a list of features missing with the two devices:
- no manual white balance via RGB gains
- no custom color space conversion matrix
- no shutter speed control
- no manual exposure parameters (only rough exposure steps control)
- non-fixed metering, etc.
This also applies to other flagship devices like the HTC One M9 which was unveiled at the MWC. Interestingly, Google offers the full list of features from the Camera2 API on its Nexus devices like the Nexus 5 and the Nexus 6.
What do you make of these exclusions by major companies like Samsung? Sound off below.
