htconem8prime

If you are a kind of person who only prefers ‘Pure Google’ experience, then I am sure you are familiar with Google Play Edition devices. In past, HTC also released the Google Play Edition of the HTC One M7 and M8; both are their top of the line smartphones. If you are using one of them, then there is a good news for you. Someone asked HTC VP of Product Management on Twitter about when Google Play Edition phones will get Lollipop, and he was nice enough to reply. Have a look:

Well, that sounds like we can expect the update any day now as he made that tweet last week. Are you using HTC One M8 or M7 GPE Edition? Did you receive any update notification yet? Let us know if you did in the comment box below.

HTC One M8 For $299 Unlocked Via HTC Hot Deals

Well HTC is back with their new deal for the week. After the excitement (and disappointment) from the last deal in which they sold the HTC Nexus 9 for 50% in a matter of minutes we hope this week the deals will flow smoothly. So what does HTC have in store this week. The HTC One M8 of course. For this HTC Hot Deal of the week HTC will offer the One M8 on any carrier or unlocked for $299. That means you can get a brand new HTC One M8 off contract for $299 which is one hell of a deal. You will save $350 off the regular price.

Sadly you will have to be quick with the F5 button for this one as HTC has only set 200 units aside at this price. After the 200 units sell out the next 300 individuals will get the HTC One M8 for $399. That still gives you a savings of $250 but who are we kidding we all want that $299 price. So hit up the link down below and try to snag one of the 200 $299 HTC One M8’s. Good luck!

Let the countdown begin for Lollipop on the HTC One (M8) and (M7)

HTC-One-M8_Gunmetal_Silver_Gold1

Last summer when HTC announced the new HTC One (M8) smartphone, part of their big news was a commitment to rolling out updates to Android on the device in a more timely fashion. This was obviously in response to criticism from the market that HTC lagged, if they even got around it, at updating their devices. Thus the HTC Advantage program was born to not only get updates out more quickly, but to keep devices current for at least a couple years.

Trying to live up to their commitment, HTC’s Mo Versi announced via a tweet today that they had received the final Android Lollipop code from Google. Earlier this year HTC indicated that they would have the new version of Android ready for both the HTC One (M8) and the HTC One (M7) within 90 days of receiving the code, so the countdown has started.

Just because HTC thinks they can get Lollipop ready for their flagship devices by February 1st does not mean users will have it then. International customers could see an update hit their devices within that 90 day window. U.S. customers will probably see an additional delay while carriers work to certify the update for devices on their networks.

The major smartphone manufacturers seem to have figured out that there is a large contingent of customers that want Android updates for their devices in short order after release. Samsung is working on Lollipop for the Galaxy S 5 to be released by December and LG is doing the same for the LG G3. The pressure will increasingly be on carriers to accelerate their verification efforts.

HTC Sense 7 with Material Design on Android 5.0 Lollipop screenshots leaked

Recently, Google made the announcement of Android 5.0, the latest and the most advanced version of Android so far. The new update is expected to hit almost all the flagship devices of different OEMs like HTC, LG, and Samsung etc. Talking about HTC, the M7 and M8 will be the first one to receive this update, and according to a leaked screenshot by YouMobile, we might have an idea about what HTC is working on.

1It can be seen in the picture above that HTC is planning to release a new version of HTC Sense, known as Sense UI 7; it will come with Material Design and obviously Android 5.0. However, the source further mentions that these leaked shots might be the early build of Sense UI, so nothing is set on stone. But at least, it still gives us on idea on what we can expect from HTC later this year.

2What are your thoughts about it? Let us know in the comment box below.

HTC Sense 7 screens show what it is shaping up to look like with Lillipop

Androids latest installment of Android treat, Lillipop, is all the rage right now. With Android 5.0 it is readily apparent that manufacturers are finally being forced to up their game a little bit and bring in more of the Google design elements to their own skins. This is a win for Google, the OEMs, and the consumers really. While we don’t get much of a look at everything that HTC has been working on, a couple of leaked screens do show some pretty fantastic Material Design elements at play.

It might be a bit of an adjustment for many, while others coming into Android for the first time will more than likely be in awe of the bold coloring. It will be interesting to see the various manufacturers approaches to the new Android version. Google is expected to release the final Android 5.0 Lollipop code on November 3rd when the Nexus 9 officially becomes available. HTC has said that they will have the Lollipop update available 90 days from Google release, at least for the HTC One M8. The One M7 and others should be in the mix too. That would put it out just after the New Year. How long it takes to get certified and pushed through the various carries is a totally different story.

HTC One (M8) for Verizon now receiving software update with Eye Experience, Android 4.4.4

verizon_eye_experience_android-4-4-4_update_htc_one_m8

A software update has arrived for Verizon customers with the HTC One (M8). It brings the Eye Experience software introduced a few weeks ago as well as Android 4.4.4 in a file totaling just over 210MB. The carrier estimates that the update will take six minutes and that is about what I experienced. The device cycles through some restarts with installations once the download is complete and then the device is ready to go. Of course, Android 4.4.4 is primarily unnoticed changes; however, the Eye Experience gives new features to the Camera app.

Android 4.4.4 and Eye Experience update rolling out for T-Mobile HTC One M8

Looks like today is a double good day for T-Mobile HTC One M8 owners. Not only is Google Play Music getting an update that brings Material Design styles to the app, but you guys are also getting an OTA. The update that has started to make its way to devices is Android 4.4.4. The update weighs in at 255MB and moves your build number to 3.32.531.2. While deing on the most currently official Android version is nice, the update brings something a bit more interesting and exciting for M8 owners, the HTC Eye Experience.

HTC eye Experience

The Eye Experience was first shown off by HTC at a press event on October 8th where they debuted the HTC Re and HTC Desire Eye. While the devices were pretty sweet, it was the mention of the Eye Experience software heading to the One M7, One M8 and One E8 that was a bit more exiting. After all, many of us aren’t ready to buy a new phone for some software when our M8 or M7 are still perfect. Some of the key comments include:

  • Auto and Voice selfie taking
  • Enhanced group video call with face tracking to keep you framed and focused
  • Split capture by taking a photo/videos with the front and rear camera at the same time.
  • Crop me in will let you crop your self into photos
  • And a few more

The update is rolling out to T-Mobile HTC One M8 owners starting today. While the T-Mobile support site isn’t updated to reflect it, we have seen a few posts from people saying they have it. I assume it will roll out in stages and could take a bit of time for ever M8 owner to receive. Be sure to check for the update through Settings > About Phone > Software Updates > Check Now. Don’t forget, a battery that is charged of 50% , Wi-Fi and a bit of time to get it downloaded and installed is recommended. Should take about 15-20 minutes.

EYE Experience for HTC One (M8) on T-Mobile to start rolling out tomorrow

HTC-EYE_029

When HTC announced their new EYE Experience, a bundle of improvements to their camera features, they indicated a variety of devices would receive the update over the coming months. Owners of the unlocked version of the HTC One (M8) were probably glad to see they were near the top of the line when the update started rolling out last week along with an update to Android 4.4.4. Now owners of the device on the T-Mobile network will be joining in on the fun as the carrier has given their technical approval for the update.

Users can expect to see an OTA update appear on their devices starting as soon as Tuesday, October 21st. This was announced by Mo Versi, HTC’s vice president for Product Management, via a tweet earlier today.
