HTC Sense 7 to make its way to HTC One M8

htc_sense_7

When HTC officially unveiled the HTC One M9 a little while ago, one thing that comes with the new hardware is a new user interface. HTC’s newest iteration of their custom skin is Sense 7 and comes with some included features like themes that many users get from third party launchers.

If you happen to own last year’s flagship from the manufacturer, the HTC One M8, you will be glad to know that HTC indicated during their event today that Sense 7 will be coming to that device as well. No timeline was provided for the rollout of Sense 7, so we will just have to watch for the update to surface on the HTC or carrier web sites.

Be sure to keep checking TalkAndroid for more news from MWC 2015.

Old versus new: HTC One M8 vs HTC One M9

HTC have finally released the cover on their new flagship HTC One M9 after it was heavily leaked. With the focus primarily on small hardware improvements that significant changes, lets see how the new HTC One M9 compares to the older HTC One M8. We’ll be updating this chart as more specs get revealed over time and the benchmarks begin to get posted.

Much of the same, but better

A spec improvement, power button moved to the side, and a camera refinement sees the HTC One M9 as an incremental update to the previous model and perhaps not the major redesign some were hoping. HTC have admitted that they got it right with the M8 and it is seen in the M9 just how little they wanted to deviate from the old design given how much they liked it.

HTC describe the M9 as the technical aspects such as antenna design and frame from the M7 combined with the unibody design from the M8, combined with the latest hardware. But did HTC make enough changes to their already tested M8 design to make the M9 appealing enough to upgrade?

But it’s not just the hardware – of course the HTC One M9 comes with Android 5.0 and Sense 7, which is the best experience yet from an HTC device. HTC have really taken the relationship of the hardware and software to the next level with the M9 and this is shown off in the camera software. The boomsound is retained from the M8 and it is still as impressive as before – this should certainly be the standard moving forward for speaker design on smartphones and tablets.

HTC’s DotView case is back and is even better with the One M9 allowing even more customisable settings for consumers, taking the concept even further.

Drop us a comment below – is the new One M9 enough of an upgrade to the older model? HTC have opted to refine their M8 experience to offer us the M9, but did they chose right?

Demo video of the HTC One M9 leaks out early, compares all three HTC Ones side by side

It appears a journalist at MWC 2015 has inopportunely (or opportunely for us) released a video detailing the HTC One M9 a day early, even going so far as to compare HTC‘s latest flagship with its two predecessors, the HTC One M8 and HTC One M7. It’s a very brief overview at two minutes, but […]

uefa-champions-htc-one-m8

If you’re a serious football fanatic, or soccer for the benefit of our American friends, you may be interested in HTC’s new UEFA Collector’s Edition One M8 smartphone. The handset was announced in partnership with UK retailer Carphone Warehouse at an event with Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel and Arsenal Women’s goalkeeper Emma Byrne.

The handset features exactly the same specifications as the regular HTC One M8, but comes with every Champions League winning team engraved into the back of the aluminium chassis, from Marseille in 1992 to Real’s 10th tournament win last season. Last year, HTC released a similar UEFA Collector’s Edition One M8 with a trophy engraved on the back.

If you’re looking to get your hands on one, you won’t be able to buy one online or in-store. Instead, HTC will be running a competition through its various social media channels, where winners will receive one of the few Collector’s Edition handsets. Better keep your eyes on HTC’s Facebook, Twitter and G+ pages.

HTC One (M8) for Verizon expected to receive Lollipop approval in two weeks

HTC_One_M8_Back_TA

A few weeks ago, Verizon shocked everyone when it became the first carrier in the United States to push Android 5.0 to the Galaxy S 5. Look back at Verizon’s history in updating its devices and you will find that the updates are either extremely slow or nonexistent. So it is great to see some changes at Big Red. Now, many people with the HTC One (M8) on Verizon are waiting to receive Lollipop. HTC Vice President of Product Management Mo Versi, essentially the company’s spokesperson for software updates, took to Twitter to provide some information.

Hit the break for more.

On Twitter, one owner of the 2014 HTC flagship expressed hope that his device would receive the update this week. Versi responded with good news and bad news. The bad news is that the update will not arrive this week. The good news, though, is that approval for the update is expected to be received in the first week of March.

There you have it, the HTC One (M8) on Verizon should receive Android 5.0 Lollipop within the next two or three weeks.

HTC anticipates the arrival of Lollipop update for the Verizon One M8 in early March

HTC-Logo-3

Just a few weeks ago, HTC announced that the update to Lollipop wouldn’t make its way to most One M7 and M8 owners within the company’s 90-day guarantee. Even though HTC had good reason to delay the update, this still discouraged many users hoping to try out the latest and greatest software in a timely fashion. But that didn’t stop the company from rolling out the Lollipop update to multiple M8 handsets only days after that announcement. We’ve seen the T-Mobile, Unlocked, Developer Edition, GPe and certain European variants get the update, and now it will soon be Verizon’s turn.

Mo Versi, HTC‘s Product Manager, took to Twitter to respond to a user’s inquiry on the Verizon HTC One M8 Lollipop update. In response, Versi told the user that the Verizon M8 Lollipop update is “in the lab,” and that the company is expecting approval for the update in the first week of March. We don’t have an exact date as to when the update will roll out, but at least now we have a pretty reliable timeframe.

Verizon may not be the quickest carrier with software updates, and HTC may have missed their 90-day guarantee, but now we know the company is working hard on the update. If you have a Verizon HTC One M8, you may want to start checking for a software update in the coming weeks. Head to Settings>Software update>Check new.

Hold onto your britches, Verizon HTC One M8 Lollipop expected to be approved first week of March

Various variants of the HTC One M8 have seen their update to Android 5.0 Lollipop. T-Mobile and Sprint have led the charge here in the states while others, like Rogers and Telus in Cananda have done their due diligence. Stateside that still leaves AT&T and Verizon. AT&T recently pushed an update, but it wasn’t Android […]

[Deal] HTC discounts the One (M8), select accessories, and the RE Camera through the weekend

HTC_One_M8_Main_TA

This weekend, various products designed and sold by HTC will be available at discounted prices. The company will reduce the cost for buyers of the One (M8), RE Camera, Dot View case, Double Dip case, and Flip case. The reason for discounting these items can probably be explained by the March 1 event hosted by HTC. The company is expected to introduce a new range of prodcuts, namely the HTC One (M9). A successor to the RE Camera will likely debut as well.

Here are the terms of the sale:

  • $150 off when buying the HTC One (M8) for $499
  • 50% off when buying the Dot View ($25), Double Dip ($12.50), and Flip cases ($15)
  • 25% off when buying the RE Camera for $149

The discounts will be applied when items are added to the cart prior to checkout.
