HTC One M8 getting 4G LTE support in India on August 15

When HTC launched the One M8 in India in April, the company promised that the One M8 will be compatible with TDD-LTE networks. During the launch of HTC Desire 616 and HTC One E8 in India, the company has once again announced that they are planning to roll out 4G LTE support for One M8 starting August 15.

Android 4.4.4 update for the HTC One M8 and M7 Google Play editions

It was quite puzzling to see smartphone brands launching non 4G LTE devices in India even though phased roll out of fast connections have started over 2300MHz band. Nevertheless, the list of 4G compatible smartphones in India is growing, thanks to LG G2 4G, LG F70 4G, Oppo Find 7, Oppo Find 7a, Samsung Galaxy S5 4G, Xolo LT900 and now the HTC One M8.

Wi-Fi Calling is finding its way to the Sprint HTC One M8 with Android 4.4.3 Update

Sprint is working on pushing out a OTA to those of you that are rocking a HTC One M8 that moves the device to Android 4.4.3. The update will bring Wi-Fi calling and a HD Voice Icon to the flagship device. Their description of the changes is limited to just those three mentioned above. We assume there are a number of little tweaks and bug fixes as well.

HTC One M8 Sprint Android 4.4.3Interestingly enough though, it would seem that after a number of sites reported on the update appearing in the Sprint support pages, listed as version 2.16.651.4, Sprint has since removed it. We hope that there wasn’t some sort of major issue sprouting up on devices that already received it. If you see it, let us know. Maybe it was a snafu and it was supposed to be Android 4.4.4. We can hope, right?

mandroid-htc-one-m8

Hello Android friends. Time the ManDroid Show that should have been up yesterday. Hopefully you America type people had a great 4th of July yesterday. Looks like HTC is finally rising from the money pit they were sinking in. Android is almost overtaking iOS in global users, and I have a feeling after Android L gets released officially, we will overtake that OS. Enjoy the show?

Guess who’s back?: HTC is back in the black thanks to the HTC One M8

HTC is back in the blackLate last year, Taiwanese device manufacturer, HTC, was not in a good place. While its flagship device, the HTC One, had exceeded expectations, a slow start due to supply issues ensured that it never really saw its full potential. A bevy of subpar devices that followed it, including the HTC One Mini and HTC One Max, really hit HTC hard, which became months of quarterly losses following October 2013 after having not made a loss since it became public in 2002. Not one to be kept down, HTC changed their game plan: their fearless CEO, Peter Chou, downgraded his duties to focus on smartphone development, and HTC introduced several new services and, of course, the HTC One M8, which I predicted would all play a part in eventually seeing HTC rise from that dark place. And lo and behold, in July 2014, HTC is back in the black.

In the press release for its financial results in Q2 2014, HTC reports that its quarterly net profit came in at a healthy NT$2.78 billion (or approximately $93 million USD), which is almost the same amount HTC lost in the quarter ending October 2013. A lot of this can be attributed to the resounding popularity of the HTC One M8, but HTC’s mid-range devices, like the Desire line, have also improved in quality which is sure to have helped it in other regions. Whatever really caused the turn around, it’s good to see HTC back on the up, and hopefully this time they continue doing what they’re good at: being “quietly brilliant”.

Android 4.4.4 rollout for HTC One M7 and M8 GPE has started

htc one kitkat____

Just a day or two after Android 4.4.4 update rollout started for Motorola Moto G Google Play Edition, same thing is happening for HTC’s One Google Play Edition smartphones, both M7 and M8.

As you might already know Android 4.4.4 isn’t exactly what we’d call a big update, it came knockin’ not even a month after the 4.4.3 update. Though it is highly recommended you update your device as soon as possible. According to Google it improves performance, security, stability and squashes some bugs.

Do you own either of these devices? DId you get the update yet?

HTC commits to Android L for One series

This year Google I/O was probably the best so far, and also a lot happened this year. Google introduced their latest version of Android, known as the Android L. The new OS is coming this fall, and HTC is making sure that their customers are not having second thoughts about it. They said on their official blog that:

We are committed to updating our flagship HTC One family as fast as possible and will begin rolling out updates to the HTC One (M8) and HTC One (M7) in regions worldwide within 90 days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly by other select HTC devices.

HTC_Android-Response_EMEAHTC is trying their best to be the first one to release Android L update for the One series. That’s definitely a good news for all HTC One (M7) users because they might have thought that HTC is only focusing on the flagship smartphone right now.

Android L is still the codename, and it might be known as Lemoncake when it is officially released. Though we personally like Lemonheads as well, you should share your thoughts with us too.

Are you happy to hear this One-users?

HTC Dot View Case for the HTC One M8. A Cool Idea that Needs Work.

HTC has been on an up and down spiral over the last couple of years as Samsung took the lead in the Android smartphone race.  That’s not to say they haven’t made some awesome hardware, but they lost their way a couple of years ago and flooded the market with too many options and nothing spectacular.

With the Release of the HTC One and now the HTC One M8, HTC appears to be on the right track and the release of the HTC Dot View case for the HTC One M8 showed they were thinking out of the box.

HTC Dot View Case Phone Answer Call

The HTC Dot View case protects your phone while still allowing notifications and touch control without opening the case itself. There are a couple of issues that stop it being what it could have been, but it’s still a cool case, just not one that I’d have for myself.

Verizon calls up red and gold HTC One M8 options

glamour_red_amber_gold_htc_one_m8

Verizon will soon offer a Glamour Red and Amber Gold version of the HTC One M8 later this week. Arriving on June 5, the new colors will be exclusive to Verizon and sold online and in retail stores. Pricing should be the same as the standard colors.

To help jump start sales, Verizon will shave $100 off any smartphone that normally runs $199.99 or higher (with a two year service agreement). Indeed, all colors of the HTC One M8 qualify for the savings. It’s unclear how long the promotion will run so be sure to hop on it if you’re weighing a purchase.
