Inbox by Gmail gets updated with improved Trip Bundles and mobile attachments
Google today announced that Inbox by Gmail is getting improved Trip Bundles–a feature added earlier this year–and better mobile attachments. The new version of Inbox by Gmail with these new features will be rolling out to users over the next week or two.
Have you ever needed to find some information about a trip your taking, but it seems to be buried in your hundreds, maybe thousands of emails, making it nigh impossible to find? Trip Bundles fixes that by bundling all of your trip emails together. Now, that experience is getting some improvements, allowing you to share your Trip Bundles with family and friends. With just a quick tap of a button, someone else can have all of your Trip Bundle information, too!
That’s not the only thing getting improved in this new update, though. You can now manually add emails to your Trip Bundles by using the Move To selection. You can now view Trip Bundles offline as well.
Finally, Inbox by Gmail has gotten a few improvements to mobile attachments, which gives you quick access to all of your photos and lets you attach multiple at a time.
Once again, the update will be rolling out over the next week or so, but if you don’t have Inbox by Gmail yet, be sure to give it a try at the download link below.

Google and Huawei could continue to partner for another Nexus device in 2016, report says
Google is looking to continue to partner with Huawei on a new Nexus smartphone with a Snapdragon 820 processor tow for late 2016, according to a new report. The Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P may have only recently launched (with much success, at that), but the rumor mill is already churning as to what we could see next.
The Snapdragon 820 will no doubt be an ideal candidate for Google’s Nexus smartphone for 2016, especially with initial reports saying just how powerful it is. This report comes by way of Pan Jiutang, a Chinese industry analyst for electronics. He’s putting Huawei on the list of other big names that will be releasing handsets with Snapdragon 820 processor this year, according to his post on Chinese social networking site Weibo.
After Qualcomm officially announced the Snapdragon 820 processor, it’s common sense that manufacturers would want to take advantage of the new processor, if only for marketing purposes alone. With that in mind, this information doesn’t really tell us anything that we don’t already know.
However, a continued partnership between Huawei and Google would be most welcome, especially as Huawei plans to grow its presence in the US with a big push from its Honor brand. Seeing another Huawei-made Nexus smartphone wouldn’t be a bad thing either.

Google will be selling the gold Nexus 6P exclusively through Best Buy in the US
A gold version of Google’s Nexus 6P leaked a few times before the device was ever officially announced, but so far only Japan has been confirmed to carry the gold Nexus 6P. However, some rumors point to Google changing things up a bit and bringing that elusive gold color to the US.
The gold Nexus 6P will reportedly only be offered through Best Buy, which wouldn’t be the first time the electronics retailer has managed to score an exclusivity deal for certain colors of certain phones.
Huawei has some big announcements slated for CES 2016 and Best Buy has already said they’re expanding their phone lineup to include the Nexus 6P in the near future, so everything is lined up to make that rumor come true in the next few months.

Almond WiFi routers now control Nest gear in your home

Securifi’s Almond routers just got much, much more useful if you use one of them as the center of your smart home. Both the base Almond and the Almond+ now talk directly to Nest’s thermostat and Protect smoke detector, giving you network-savvy controls that Nest alone can’t offer. Thanks to equally new WiFi triggers, you can have the thermostat adjust the temperature the moment your phone connects to your home network. The routers will even “broker” between two connected smartphones — if you like it hot but your partner wants it cooler, you’ll get a temperature in between the two.
There are a couple of additional updates that should make your life easier. You now have local control over at least some devices without needing an internet connection, and you can create “scenes” that perform multiple actions at once. If you’re packing it in for the night, for instance, you can have the router lock your doors, set the alarm and shut off the lights. It’ll be expensive to put the Almond/Nest combo in action (you’re currently looking at $80 for an Almond 2015, and $249 for a Nest thermostat), but it might be easy to justify if you’re trying to create the smartest possible household.
Google is gifting employees with a Nexus 5X for the holidays
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
The holidays are a great time to be a Google employee, and 2015 is just as merry as years past. According to a post on reddit, Google is gifting employees with a Nexus 5X in any color they please for the holidays. If they choose to to forgo one of Google’s latest Nexus offerings, they can choose to donate the money to charity instead.
The Nexus 5X employees are being gifted with are identical to the retail version. Last year, the Mountain View tech giant gave its hard-working employees Android Wear smartwatches. In 2013, employees chose from a Nexus 5 and Nexus 7.
If you are looking to pick a Nexus 5X for yourself, Google giving them out to employees is great news for your wallet. Prices of the phone on sites like eBay and Swappa will most likely fall as a result of the free phones, and more of them will end up being sold on websites like these, leading to a drop in the average sold price – at least in theory.

Google CEO publishes essay on immigration and supporting minorities

I believe we can all agree the USA has seen better days. Our daily cup of tea now includes discrimination all over the media, as well as an aspiring president who wants to build walls and mass deport certain groups of people. Some hate it, some may love it, but one thing is for sure – none of us should be indifferent.
Donald Trump sure has its supporters, but he seems to have no luck being friends with the tech giants. Many of them are standing up for what they believe to be right, and now Google CEO Sundar Pichai has shared his 2 cents in an essay published in Medium.

In his inspiring essay, Pichai opens with his own experience coming from India. He goes on to mention that tolerance and diversity are important parts of both the company he runs and the country, which he now feels very much part of. He stands strong against this “intolerant discourse”
“Let’s not let fear defeat our values. We must support Muslim and other minority communities in the US and around the world.” -Sundar Pichai, CEO at Google
Of course, this is a very touchy subject, but Pichai believes it is important to speak out about these matters, even if you are not under attack. Sundar joins other big tech CEOs in this fight, including important executives from Facebook, Microsoft, Qualcomm and many others. But where do you stand? Hit the comments and let us know whether you agree with Google’s CEO or not.
Get $20 in Google Play credit when you buy a Chromecast

Are you looking to buy a Chromecast? You might want to wait until tomorrow, December 13, when Google is starting a promotion in which Chromecast purchasers will get $20 of Google Play Store credit to enjoy some content with the brand new dongle.

Considering the Chromecast is only $35, this offer effectively brings the price down to $15 for the hardware alone. We would say that’s a pretty good deal for those of you who need a good streaming device that won’t break the bank and work like a charm.

There is no small writing to worry about, really. The only trick is that you have to buy the Chromecast from December 13th to January 2nd. Oh, and it seems the deal does work with both the regular Chromecast and the Chromecast Audio. You do have to go redeem the offer, so make sure to hit Google’s Offers page to request your prize once you have your Chromecast.

Don’t you love this stuff? Google has always been great at making the Chromecast not only affordable, but also full of goodies and freebies to keep users happy. It’s just one more reason why you should opt for a Chromecast. That is, unless you really need more functionality and would prefer a full smart TV experience. I can see how this would also be upsetting if you just bought a Chromecast, though.
The After Math: ‘Murica!

With the presidential elections just under a year away, the American political season is kicking into high gear. But the race to be Commander in Chief isn’t the only thing going on in this country. We’ve got veterans getting new members, Chicken McNugget dispensers and hoverboard bans as well! Here’s your United States, by the numbers.

Chromecast Audio dongle stars in yet another video
The YouTube channel ‘Google Cast’ has uploaded yet another video promoting the Chromecast Audio dongle.
If you’re new to streaming media, Google’s newest Chromecast dongles are a great place to start. ‘Google Cast’ has uploaded a brief video on how easy it is to use the Chromecast Audio dongle. Users can use just about any Android device, laptop, desktop computer or even an iPhone or iPad. It’s extremely easy to set up and works using your home’s Wi-Fi network. Best of all, the library of supported apps is growing by the day.
Google also managed to put time aside in the ad to show how its newest feature works. Home Group allows you to link multiple Chromecast dongles together so that you can play the same song all throughout your home. Google also points out that users can use the device while the music player simply runs in the background. Guests can also cast to your Chromecast Audio dongles with no initial setup. If you’re interested in getting one for yourself, now’s a great time because of Google’s active promotion. For a limited time, you’ll get a $20 Google Play credit with your purchase.

Android Authority this week – December 13, 2015

Android fans, this week Android 6.0.1 started rolling out to Nexus devices; alleged CAD renders of the Galaxy S7 leaked out; Marshmallow updates became available for a number of devices; we spotted a credible image of the Xiaomi Mi 5; the Pixel C rolled out to mixed reviews; first rumors about HTC’s next flagship surfaced; and Google released updates to many of its apps.
Inside AA HQ
Across media, December is the time of silly year-end lists and recaps. In the tech blogosphere, December is when we wrap up and look back at the best devices that launched over the past twelve months. We wanted to do something a little different this year, and that’s how we came up with the idea of Best of Android.
Best of Android is where we put the best devices available right now through a series of in-depth comparisons. For this inaugural edition, we picked the Xperia Z5 Premium, Nexus 6P, Moto X Force, LG V10, Galaxy Note 5 and BlackBerry Priv. Through the week, we brought you in-depth looks at which phone is the best in terms of display, audio, performance, battery, and camera. Later today, we will have a close look at the UX, and tomorrow we will wrap the series and announce the overall winner.
We hope that Best of Android 2015 will become a recurring series on Android Authority, even if it was not perfect. The first edition has been a real learning experience, and we already know how to make the 2016 installment better. Feel free to tell us what you think!
Another series that’s concluding this week is our holiday guide collection, where we offer techie gift ideas for all budgets.
