Storehouse comes to the Android platform with latest release

storehouse_app_icon

Storehouse is an app designed to help users share photos and videos by creating a web page to share a collage, album or tell a story. The idea is to make the presentation of images a little bit richer and have a little more context than the simple sharing available through most methods and platforms. The problem with the app up until now is that it was not available for Android users. Developer Storehouse Media changed that this week with the release of the Android version of the Storehouse app.

When creating a page, users can select photos and videos from their camera roll, which the app will then use to automatically generate the page. Storehouse gives users the ability to add up to 50 photos or videos. If a user happens to not be happy with the automatically generated layout, they can do things like resize content using handles on the items or drag and drop them to a new location. Storehouse also lets users add text to the page.

Once a page is ready to be shared, and they are kept private until a user is ready, Storehouse can provide a link that can be sent by SMS or Email. Storehouse also gives users the ability to embed their creations on blogs or share them through social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook. Users can even setup shared spaces so friends can contribute content.

You can get Storehouse from the Play Store using the download link below.

That said, the update to Marshmallow will be pushed out to unlocked One M8 owners within 24 hours.

Here’s the official statement from Versi:

If you’re an unlocked One M8 owner, be sure to keep an eye out for the update, as it should be coming your way fairly soon. As per the norm, you can check for the latest updates manually by heading into Settings > About Phone and tapping that check for update button.

The Omate Rise is a tough, circular, 3G-connected smartwatch running Android

Omate Rise

Omate is no stranger to producing wearables on the cheap, and that’s very apparent by the company’s lineup of smartwatches and other connected accessories. The Omate TrueSmart saw some pretty wide success over the years, only to be succeeded by the TrueSmart+, which launched back in September. Now Omate is launching another smartwatch that seems to fit right in to the company’s product portfolio.

The Omate Rise is a tough, circular, 3G-connected smartwatch running Android (not Android Wear). It sports a 1.3-inch touchscreen TFT display with 360 x 360 resolution, a strong sapphire coating on the display to protect from bumps and bruises, and supports interchangeable 22mm straps. It runs Android 5.1 Lollipop with Omate’s OUI 4.0 on top, and can be paired with any Android 4.3+ device or an iPhone running iOS 9. Powering this smartwatch is a dual-core 1.2GHz MediaTek MT2601 processor backed by 512MB of RAM. It also has 4GB of on-board storage, a 580mAh battery, and 1 ATM water-resistance.

This is a 3G-connected wearable, so you can connect it to any GSM network of your choosing. It takes a Micro SIM card, and supports 3G bands 2100 or 1900, as well as 2G bands 850, 900, 1800 and 1900.

Want to get your hands on one? Not so fast – the Omate Rise will only be available for 48 hours on Indiegogo beginning Monday, December 7th. Super Early Birds (folks who take advantage of the pre-sale) will be able to score the smartwatch for only $199 instead of the $349 retail price. Early backers will also get a free Bluetooth heart rate monitor chest belt with their order.

If you’d like to learn more about the Omate Rise, check out the company’s website for all the details.

Chrome for Android slims down the internet when speeds are slow

If you’ve ever been stuck with slow mobile internet and just wanted to read an article, Google has some mighty good news. It’s about to release a new feature to its Chrome for Android Data Saver mode that will only display text when it senses a slow network. Once a page loads, you can then show all images (above) or specific ones by tapping on them. Google says that the new trick will use up to 70 percent less mobile data on Android devices.

BlackBerry Priv edges will be more productive than the edges on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

BlackBerry_Priv_Android_smartphone (2)If you love the looks of the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, but hated how little function they gave, the Blackberry Priv has a surprise for you. It also features dual curved edges, but new reports are showing that they will be much more functional.

Canadian carrier Telus has leaked some documents showing a feature called Productivity Edge. It has been taken down now, but we still obtained some pictures from it showing features of what the edges can do.

The edge features seem to be somewhat similar to the S6 Edge, but expand upon it. One neat feature is the edge turns into a battery bar when charging.

An-early-look-at-BlackBery-Privs-Productivity-Edge-4Other features are swiping from the edge and getting a notes app to quickly write something down. The edges, to me, seem almost like a Note 5 and S6 Edge combined. Instead of taking out the S pen and getting a new app menu, that app menu is now built into the edges through swipe gestures.

Another cool thing we learned from the leak is if you swipe up on an app it will launch the widget if it has one. Similar to Action Launcher’s Shutters feature.

The more leaks that we see about the Priv the more interested I am in it. Wether you like it or not, BlackBerry is at least trying new things that many other Android manufactures have not.

Hands on with People Edge on the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+

samsung_unpacked_2015_galaxy_s6_edge_plus_edge_contacts_TAWhen Samsung unveiled their new Galaxy S6 Edge+, they also brought with it one new feature that it’s smaller sibling doesn’t have. That new feature is App Edge, which is an expansion on People Edge.

Like the old People Edge feature, you can swipe from the top right or left of the edge screen (depending on what you picked in the settings) and out will slide a menu. This will show you your top 5 favorite friends and will let you call or text them directly. Any contacts can be added and colors can be changed for each one. The new App Edge is exactly the same, only with apps. To open it, open People Edge and swipe one more time. The menu will now show your favorite apps. Select your favorite top 5 apps and you now have quick access to them no matter where you are on your device.

Click here to view the embedded video.

While this feature is definitely wanted by many, it’s not as good as Glovebox. I have written a full guide on how amazing Glovebox is and why I love it on my S6 Edge. It does basically the same thing, but can also add widgets, more apps, folders, almost anything you would like. Plus, it works on any Android device. However, for those of you who don’t want to install any additional apps, App Edge is a great new feature.

(Source: Debashis Sarkar)

After the launch of flagship Galaxy S6 edge, Samsung recently introduced the plus version of S6 within five months in India at an almost similar launch price. Wait for it. The Galaxy Note 5 is next in line. The next Note device is expected to arrive soon. Now, if you wish to buy any of these premium devices, which one should it be?

Ask Samsung India the same question. “The Galaxy S6 edge+ is meant for those who would want a large display. The Galaxy S6 edge+ caters to the demand for large screen devices in the market. The Note 5, goes without saying, is aimed at our Note fans who wants to do more with the improved S-Pen,” said Asim Warsi, VP, Marketing, IT & Mobile, Samsung India.

While it may sound simple, this comparison is tricky given all the three devices shares similar specifications.

Galaxy S6 edge vs S6 edge+

The Galaxy S6 edge+ is simply the bigger version of Galaxy S6 edge. While the S6 Edge comes with a 5.1-inch screen, the S6 edge+ display measures 5.7-inch. The S6 edge+ is obviously wide and longer than the S6 edge, however, the dual curved screen ensure that 5.7-inch is not too big to use. Both displays are Quad HD with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels. The quality of both are stunning.

The plus version comes with 4GB RAM while S6 edge has 3GB RAM. It would be hard to differentiate the performance based on the 1GB more RAM only. The bigger S6 edge+ obviously is powered by a bigger 3,000 mAh battery when compared to 2,600 mAh battery of the S6 edge. If you intend to buy a wireless charger, then the S6 edge+ supports fast wireless charging while the S6 edge doesn’t.

Samsung, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Samsung Galaxy S6 pictures, Samsung Galaxy S6 first look

The major difference between them is only display sizes. On the software front, thankfully, Samsung has tried to differentiate in the bigger version. The Galaxy S6 edge+ comes with Live YouTube broadcasting, App Edge and Side Sync.

Live YouTube Broadcast: With this feature, you can live stream on your YouTube account directly from the camera app. This feature will make you forget Periscope or Meerkat and will help you focus on your YouTube channel. This feature works even if you have just one subscriber or none on your YouTube channel.

App Edge: In the Galaxy S6 edge, the right edge of the display can used only to showcase five contacts in different colour themes. In the plus version, Samsung now allows you to add five apps which you mostly use. The App Edge simply acts as a shortcut.

Side Sync: This feature helps you to share the screen and data between your PC and S6 edge+ wireless. Side Sync is supported on both Windows and Mac.

Samsung might look at providing these features to the S6 edge as well going forward. However, Samsung did not mention any specific time.

Galaxy Note 5

While the Galaxy S6 edge+ sports a dual curved screen like the earlier Galaxy S6 Edge, the Note 5 has a dual curved back and a flat display. Both share the exact specifications but Note 5 comes with the stylus. The Note 5 allow users to scribble notes with the stylus even when the device is locked. So, who should buy the Note 5? If you really need the S-Pen only then buying the Note 5 makes sense.

The Galaxy S6 edge was launched at Rs 58,900. The market price of it, after five months of its launch, is around Rs 49,900. Now, the Galaxy S6 edge+ will go on sale starting August 28 at Rs 57,900. So, Samsung may have reduce the price of the S6 edge to accommodate the new plus version. Also, the Note 5, following earlier trends, might be launched in the price range of between Rs 58,000 and Rs 60,000.

When asked what is Samsung doing to justify the drastic price drops in a short span of time, Warsi said, “The price keeps on varying due to market conditions. However, we were the first to introduce a unique cover for customers who had pre-ordered the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge. Under this, Samsung will cover up to Rs 10,000 in the form of points and freebies equivalent to difference amount, when the price drops.”

Samsung Mongoose benchmark leak reveals huge step forward for processor

samsung_exynos_mongoose_logo_hack

Although the high-end smartphone market may be cooling a bit around the globe, that does not mean manufacturers of smartphones and their components are slowing down their efforts to produce parts on the leading edge and ahead of the pack. For Samsung’s processor business, this means working on a successor to their Exynos 7420 processor. Reports indicate the codename for the project is Mongoose and a new leak of some benchmark results shows Samsung is ready to unload with this new chip.

The new Geekbench results show the new Mongoose processor will operate in three modes – regular, power-saving and super power-saving. Samsung is working to have the chip step down its speed in an effort to save battery power. At the regular setting, the Mongoose chip is slated to run at 2.4 GHz.

Even though Mongoose is only rumored to be a quad-core chip, the Geekbench results are definitely noteworthy. On the multi-core test, the processor racked up 7,497 points compared to the Exynos 7420’s 4,970 ponits. Even in power-saving mode where the chip scored 5,263 points the Mongoose outperforms the current generation Exynos processor. Only in super power-saving mode, where the Geekbench score dipped to 3,489, does the Mongoose fail to match the Exynos.

The big question is whether Samsung will be able to maintain these performance levels once the chip goes into production, which is expected to take place in the latter half of 2016. Even if Samsung does have to throttle things back some for stability purposes and to make sure it is suitable for a consumer device, the potential looks promising.

What features or uses of a smartphone do you think could benefit from a big jump in processor performance?

Samsung quietly adds 128GB options for the Galaxy S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5

samsung_unpacked_2015_galaxy_s6_edge_plus_galaxy_note_5_just_got_bigger_TA

Samsung has quietly listed 128GB models of the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+. At yesterday’s announcement, Samsung told the press the two devices would only come in 32/64GB models, which was to many consumers’ dismay since these devices will not have microSD card support.

The 128GB models should be available to buy through Samsung’s website alongside other memory options on August 21, barring no unforeseen delays.

There are a few odd details, such as the 128GB S6 Edge+ only being offered in black through Sprint and T-Mobile. But it’s available in black or gold via Verizon and AT&T. It’s slightly disappointing if you have a color preference.

samsung_unpacked_2015_galaxy_note_5_front_in_hand_TA

Either way, this is still fortunate news. Having a 128GB memory option will no doubt help offset the disappointment of offering no microSD card support, despite Samsung saying there would only be 32/64GB options.

Both 32GB/64GB options of either device are not far under the $1,000 mark, and there’s no doubt that the 128GB model will put you past that. What’s unfortunate is that it doesn’t seem Samsung is offering any 128GB memory options unlocked and straight from their store.

Let’s just hope carriers will actually offer these options on August 21 and this isn’t some mistake. After all, none of these memory options actually show up on the carrier websites themselves, and that’s a bit worrisome.
