Video: here’s what 4GB of RAM can do for your multitasking
The Asus Zenfone 2 has a chance of becoming the sleeper hit of 2015 so far. After the affordable, but hardly impressive first generation series, Asus announced in January the Zenfone 2, featuring some interesting features and an unprecedented 4GB of RAM. But how big of a difference does the extra gigabyte(s) of memory makes when it comes to actual use? This video from YouTuber L BS seems to suggest that memory is put to very good to use.
L BS ran five graphics intensive games on the Zenfone 2 at a time, and switched between them alternatively. Not only was the Zenfone 2 able to keep all the games in the memory without closing any of them down (Android automatically closes down apps when memory is insufficient), but the games seem to be running without any lag.
Now I know what you are thinking – why would I need to run five games at once? But even if you’re not into absurdly-intense multitasking, more RAM should give you a better experience. Just being able to keep your frequently used apps in the memory for longer should cut down on loading times.

In his recent review, Lanh singled out performance of the Zenfone 2 as one of the main benefits offered by Asus’ flagship. That said, you should be careful when buying the device, as the Zenfone 2 comes in two flavors: one featuring an Intel Atom Z3580 processor and 4GB of RAM (selling for €349 in Europe) and one featuring an Intel Atom Z3560 processor and 2GB of RAM (selling for €179 in Europe). The Zenfone 2 is yet to arrive in North America, but we’re optimistic that will happen, eventually.

All right. Well, take care yourself. I guess that’s what you’re best, presence old master? A tremor in the Force. The last time felt it was in the presence of my old master. I have traced the Rebel spies to her. Now she is my only link to finding their secret base. A tremor in the Force. The last time I felt it was in the presence of my old master.
Remember, a Jedi can feel the Force flowing through him. I can’t get involved! I’ve got work to do! It’s not that I like the Empire, I hate it, but there’s nothing I can do about it right now. The new Asus VivoWatch offers fitness tracking and 10 days of battery life
Asus has unveiled their newest VivoWatch (that’s actually not part of the Zen family of devices) that’s focused on fitness tracking. The watch is water and dust resistant, offers a heart rate monitor and several other health services, and features a stainless steel frame. Asus is also making a pretty bold claim with this watch, saying it will last 10 days on a single charge.
Other details are pretty scarce about the device, such as pricing and how Asus is going to squeeze that much battery life out of the this thing. We do know that it won’t be an Android Wear device, so maybe Asus has their own extremely power-efficient software on the VivoWatch to keep it going. It’s supposedly going on sale later this year, so we should hear more sooner rather than later.

Some users reporting Nexus 7 brick issue on Android 5.0+ Lollipop

Can you think of anything worse than bricking your phone when flashing a new ROM? Well, how about your Android device turning into a fancy paperweight when the official OTA update is installing? That’s right, a good bunch of Nexus 7 owners, both 2012 and 2013, are reporting that Android 5.0+ Lollipop is bricking their tablets.
Making matters even worse, users so far are feeling that Google and ASUS both are trying to wash their hands of the problem, leaving users in the lurch. Even users with warranty are feeling the pinch. Hopefully this is just a growing pain or misunderstanding, but these users are pretty vocal, just check out the hashtag #Nexus7bricked for some surprisingly calm and polite outrage.

For starters, if you have not yet updated your Nexus 7 tablet, 2012 or 2013, to Android 5.0+ Lollipop – especially 5.0.2, you may not want to hit that update button now. Wait for Android 5.1 Lollipop. If you’ve got a custom ROM on your device, just stay clear of stock images for now as well.
If you do already have Android 5.0.2 Lollipop on your Nexus 7, the recommendation is to try not to turn your device off at all until 5.1 rolls out.
What is going wrong?
At this point, we have some amazingly talented users that have identified a few things for us to look at, but an official cause is not yet known.
It appears that the problematic devices boot to the Google logo at startup, but do not proceed past this point, thus, do not load the operating system, leaving the device, essentially, useless. A few users have talked about getting into fastboot and recovery to find what appears to be the complete failure to mount the local storage flash memory.

Is this a hardware failure of the flash memory or a software failure that corrupted the partitions or filesystem? We do wish we could answer this at this time, but, as mentioned, nether Google nor ASUS is stepping up just yet to inform users of the cause, or a solution.
Luckily, there is a large group of awesome Nexus 7 users out there that have figured out a ‘fix’. Pull out your tool kit, the repair for now appears to be a complete replacement of your system motherboard/logic board. I hope you’ve got warranty, and that they cover you.

Again, to be safe, let’s just say that this covers all Nexus 7 models, and all Android 5.0+ Lollipop updates. Please backup all your stuff and do not do anything crazy until Android 5.1 rolls out to your device, which some of you should already have.
If you already have a fancy paperweight, be sure to check out this Reddit thread, with links to a couple Google product forums on the topic. Make sure your voice is heard if you have been left out of warranty repair.
Have any of you seen this Nexus 7 bricking issue, or is it just an unfortunate few that are having the problem?
A big thank you to Christopher Watson for taking a proactive approach to seeing this issue get fixed.
