Facebook pushes users to download its Moments app

Facebook is urging people to download yet another one of its apps after shoving users towards Messenger. This time, the social network has begun sending out warnings that their synced photos will be deleted by July 7th if they don’t install the Moments app. Facebook gave users the capability to auto-sync their photos on mobile with a private album within its app back in 2012. Three years later, it introduced the standalone Moments app for iOS and Android to house those photos, but it clearly decided to wait a while before phasing the old feature out completely.

According to TechCrunch, users can see more info within the private album that will be affected by the move if they haven’t received an email and a notification yet. If they switched Synced photos on by accident and would like to get rid of the feature, though, then they can take it easy. Just let the deadline pass, and Facebook will do the heavy lifting.

[Review] JolyJoy makes minimal design accessible with an LED lamp

I’ve always been somewhat of a minimalist. Whether it’s trying out the One Backpack Lifestyle, or putting together modern architecture boards on Pinterest, I appreciate minimal and modern design. So when I received an LED lamp in them mail by JolyJoy, I was immediately enamored of its sleek look.

First Impressions

Not only is the lamp minimal, but the packaging is as well. It came in a simple black box with a thin plastic covering, so unpacking it was a breeze. The device comes out of the box fully charged, so you can start using it immediately.

The lamp itself is made of white silicon rubber and aluminum, so it is, dare I say…light. The most interesting feature of the lamp is its flexibility. You can bend it a full 180° back so it lies flat against the table, or bend it forward so it fits inside the packaging. The lamp also comes in black.

LED_lamp04

Features

  • Brand: Joly Joy
  • Item Weight: 1.9 lbs
  • Dimensions: 15.1 x 3.8 x 3.2 inches
  • Light Source: 0.4W – 0.5W
  • Battery: Rechargeable lithium-polymer, 2000mAh

On the top of the base near the front, there is a power button symbol etched into the plastic, but it’s not a button per se. Rather, it is touch sensitive. All you need to do is lightly touch the power symbol to turn it on and off.

At the front of the base you’ll see a small touch panel, to control the dimming/brightness of the light (six dimmable levels) and to cycle it through different shades of white. That’s right, another cool feature is the lamp’s ability to shine in three shades of white: a cool white, a neutral white and a warm white. The shades of white are meant be used for different reading situations in order to help reduce eyestrain.

LED_lamp03

The 2000mAh battery can last up to 30 hours on a single charge, and it takes about three hours to charge it up again with a micro USB port on the base. The lamp comes with a USB cord that’s about 12 inches long.

Fluorescence vs Incandescence vs LED

So what is the difference between these types of light anyway?

Compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs generate light by sending an electrical charge through an ionized gas mixture of argon and mercury vapor. First introduced in 1970, they were believed to replace incandescent bulbs because of their higher energy efficiency (lasting anywhere from 6,000 – 35,000 hours). But CFL bulbs are more expensive and contain mercury, which caused some people to worry about them as a health hazard.

Incandescent bulbs emit light by heating a metal filament, commonly made from tungsten, inside of a bulb filled with an inert gas like argon. These types of bulbs only last for about 2,000 hours. They aren’t as energy efficient but they are cheaper than CFL bulbs, so this bulb has stuck around for decades.

Light-emitting diode (LED) lights were meant to be a solution to the hazards of CFL bulbs. These lights are called solid state lighting (SSL), because instead of emitting light from a vacuum (incandescent) or a gas (fluorescent), an SSL commonly emits light from a solid piece of matter, like a semiconductor.

LED bulbs aren’t commonly found in most households yet, but they can be even more energy efficient than CFL bulbs, with some lasting up to 50,000 hours. The LED method loses less energy in the form of heat than other light technology.

LED_lamp10

Conclusion

This LED lamp has quickly become one of my favorite products. It’s a little pricey and doesn’t shine as brightly as a traditional incandescent bulb, but it’s more environmentally friendly and rechargeable. And if you’re a lover of modern design as I am, you might like this product too.

Check out the product on JolyJoy’s website for $45, or buy it on Amazon (Affiliate Link).

Personalize your Nexus 5X, 6P or 6 with a Google Live case (review)

Back in April, Google announced it was launching official Live cases for its Nexus 6, 6P and 5X smartphones. Live cases are personalized smartphone cases where you can put just about any image onto a blank slate for a personal touch to add to your smartphone.

There are two types to choose from, the Photos Live Case, and the Places Live Case.

google live cases

I decided to pick up two live cases for my Nexus 6P to test them out.

Designing your own live cases

The process of designing a Live case is simple. All you have to do is go to the Google Store, select Live Cases, pick from Places or Photos and follow the four step process.

For exact instructions, you can follow my tutorial here.

I chose to do one of each – one of my dog Taro when she was a puppy, and one from Places where I spend most of my time.

live case photosTaro on the Google Photos Live Case.

Custom Google Places Live Case for the Nexus 6P.Custom Google Places Live Case for the Nexus 6P.

Setting up a custom case design is very simple. Google will even warn you if your image is blurry and will result in a blurry print. In both of my cases though, I had no issues with resolution.

You’re free to choose from stock images, or you can place pre selected designs Google has laid out for you, from different colors schemes to different shapes and patterns. In the Live Case I made, I selected a two tone fading color scheme of blue and purple. My Places Case though remained stock from Google Maps.

Cases come with a live wallpaper and NFC chip

What’s an especially cool feature built into both live cases, is an NFC chip that serves as a button to bring in your image from your creation to create a live wallpaper. Once you download the official Live Case app from the Google Play Store, all you have to do touch the case to your phone to activate it.

DSC02782

Your live wallpaper will be the image of your Place or Live photo, so with my Live Case of Taro, my wallpaper became an image of her as well.

The shortcut button on the back can give you one-touch access to places of interest around you, or you can customize the button to open your camera or your favorite app.

DSC02794

Fit and Feel

The fit of the official Google Live cases is perfect. At the time I placed my orders back in April, the Matte option was available, but Glossy was not. Matte provides a smooth finish that doesn’t attract fingerprints and is nice to hold.

DSC02799

As you can see in the images, the cases fit about as perfect as one can ask for.

DSC02793

There’s also a lip that protrudes just above the display to offer drop protection for your screen.

DSC02785

Conclusion

At $35 per case, with shipping included, the price for a custom and well-built case is a great price. It fits perfectly, offers excellent protection for your Nexus smartphones, and looks pretty darned cool. It’s a nice change from the black and clear cases we normally purchase. The only downside to ordering a custom case is the long wait time of 4-5 weeks, but that may be shorter now that it has been available to purchase for a couple of months now.

Get your own custom Live Case from the Google Play Store for $35.

The Nexus 6P is also on sale at Amazon and Newegg for a limited time.

Scraby: Simple design and simple to play (Review)

Overview

Who doesn’t like a good word puzzle game? Whether it’s a fast-paced, thinking on your toes style, or a laid back playing the long game, they can definitely keep your mind sharp. Luckily for you there is a new app in town called Scraby. What is Scraby? Let’s find out.

Developer: Bushido Games

Cost: Free

Review

Scraby was until recently only available in Polish. But with the warm reception it had in Poland Bushido Games decided to extend it to English. The game is so short and simple that it only took a few minutes to learn.

When you open the app you are prompted to create a username, and don’t worry, if you don’t like it, it can be easily changed. After that, you click play and you are now in the game.

Scraby6What really sets this game apart is the gameplay. It’s not too far off from Scramble in that you have a bunch of letters mixed up and you have to score as many points as you can in two minutes. Each letter has an assigned value and there are also bonus letters that you can use. The main difference is while creating the words the letters don’t have to touch each other. You can pick any letter off the board that you want from anywhere.

The next thing that really makes it a unique experience is the way you play against other people. They have the same letters as you do on the same board. The game is the same for everybody who is online. There is only one game going on at a time. So when you click play you are added to the game in progress. Once the game is over you are added into another game in ten seconds or you can just leave the game.

Baked inside this game is a leader board among your friends. It doesn’t use Facebook or anything like that, it just recognizes people you have played with that are in the same location as you. The setting is really stripped down to only two options. Light and Dark mode as well as animations on or off. That’s it.

Conclusion

This game isn’t overly complicated or covered in flashy animations that distract you. It’s a simple game with a simple design that can really drive your competitive spirit. I also appreciate that this game is totally free with no ads or in-app purchases of any kind. Bushido Games could easily charge a little for Scraby and it would be totally worth it.

Ragnarok: Heroes of Midgard could use some Godly help (Review)

Overview

Ragnarok: Heroes of Midgard is a free-to-play card collecting/RPG game that has a lot of potential, but also a lot of faults.

Developer: OmegaGamesLLC

Cost: Free (with micro-transactions and ads)

Impressions

Ragnarok: Heroes of Midgard is an interesting game, to say the least. It’s a sort of card game/RPG hybrid with characters based off of Norse mythology and fantasy. The game features card collecting, exploration and battling with a team of characters – sounds great, right? Unfortunately, Ragnarok doesn’t exactly do any of these things in an outstanding way.

The story of the game is essentially Loki, the Norse god of Mischief, is up to no good and you need to stop his evil deeds across the realms of Asgard. The game takes some liberties with Norse lore, but it isn’t the worst premise.

The game is similar in style to other popular mobile games like Brave Frontier, where you collect characters of varying rarity and power, put them in a team, and fight in automatic battles. Ragnarok uses cards instead of characters, with admittedly nice art on them, which you collect from the field of battle and from the environment. You can summon cards using in-game currency and real money, as well as upgrade and fuse them together to get more powerful units. Once you get the cards, however, the game takes a sharp drop in fun.

1 of 4

Pay no attention to the user name… I run out of ideas easily.

Where a game like Brave Frontier has Final Fantasy-style animated battles with interesting effects and some degree of interactivity, Ragnarok does not. Battles in Ragnarok boil down to two parties bumping into each other with little to no animation, and just some numbers popping up.

The battles last about 2-10 seconds at most, and sometimes you don’t even know what happened until the win/loss screen appears. I wish they had sprung for animations, or added some strategy to the mix, letting you pick which cards attack when, or maybe add some ability to launch special attacks. The game just doesn’t give the player much to do besides tap one button and watch.

The same can be said of exploration, which consists of tapping the “explore” button and watching a little animation over and over until something happens. Occasionally a battle will crop up, or a cut-scene detailing the story will occur, but they are not very frequent, making exploration become tedious at times.

There are other modes to play as well, including an arena mode, where you can battle your party against others. A guild feature is also available, in which you can create and join teams with other players or friends. These modes are fine, but the arena is just more of the same boring battles.

Also, the app has a weird issue where it installs two different icons. Worst of all, one works and the other doesn’t. Confusing and frustrating for sure.

Conclusion

Overall, I was disappointed with Ragnarok: Heroes of Midgard. It has a lot of promise and a bunch of content to work with, but the gameplay itself, coupled with the bevy of superior games available in the same genre for the same price, make this game a hard sell. If you’re looking for a decent game to pick up and play for a time waster, or if you need that collectible free-to-play card game/RPG fix, you could certainly do worse, but also a lot better.

Download and install Ragnarok: Heroes of Midgard from the Google Play Store.

Pelican PROTECTOR: A case review

The Shpeel

Smartphones are not cheap. In fact, if you already have a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge you know this all too well. Almost 800 bucks is the current going rate.

The debate is fierce, do I go “NAKED’ and show off the beauty of this very expensive pocket size computer. Or do I cover all the beautiful glass and metal up with a case, so that it lasts longer than the first day when inevitably I drop it on the sidewalk, face down and try to convince myself that ” it didn’t drop that hard. The screen is fine!” only to pick it up and to realize that even though “it didn’t drop that hard” it’s now a shattered mess that will cost almost as much to fix as replace.

I say COVER IT UP! Protect that investment and put a good case on it. Even though it’s not 100% certain that it still won’t break, there is a lot better chance of it dropping and being ok with a case on.

Back in packageBack in package

The Scoop

Enter the Pelican Protector! Pelican has been at the “protecting things” game for a long time. 40 years in fact! It started out making Scuba diving gear, and have since moved into protecting everything imaginable.

Which so happens to include the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The Protector is “Tested to Military Specifications to survive multiple drops”, has impact absorbing TPR rubber lining to protect the electronics inside the phone, and angled edges to divert energy and protect the screen from surface contact. The case is made with hard plastic and rubber for “two layer” protection.

61hw9rbLFbL._SL1500_

Summing it up

This case has a hard plastic back, but softer rubbery side walls. There is a rubber ring around the back that helps it not slip around when the phone is sat down on its back and when it’s in your hand. This case is two layers, not two pieces like with some other cases.

The smooth look of the hard plastic with rubber grips in all the right places make this case from Pelican visually pleasing and feels great in your hand.

Some drawbacks are the power and volume buttons are a little bit too small and take just a slightly harder push than I would like. Also the charging port cutout is slightly smaller than the non-Samsung chargers I have. Neither of those issues are a deal breaker by any means.

The other drawback for me specifically is I use a magnetic CD tray mount in my car (LIKE THIS ONE). The thickness of the hard plastic on the back, and the slippery section in the middle where the magnet connects, made my phone fall off the mount while driving. I really like the look and feel of this case and definitely feel my phone is protected from drops. Also, this case comes with a lifetime warranty that covers the case if it breaks. “Guaranteed For Life: You break it, we replace it” is the Pelican’s motto.

You can buy the Pelican Protector at Amazon HERE for around $39.99 with free shipping included.

You can also learn more at Pelican.

ilumi Bluetooth Smartbulb: Add some color to your lights

When it comes to technology in our homes, one of the last things we probably think of is our light bulbs. I imagine that most people don’t even think about light bulbs at all until one goes out. However, there is an entire selection of bulbs that go far beyond simply lighting up our homes. Some of these light bulbs were created for pure fun while others are meant to add another level of security. Sitting right in the middle of those bulbs is the ilumi Bluetooth Smartbulb.

Design

The ilumi Bluetooth Smartbulb looks almost like any other light bulb except for the fact that it is built much sturdier. The body of the bulb is completely metal which gives the bulb a nice weight. The dome where the light shines through is made of translucent plastic, but even that feels sturdy. The overall feel of the ilumi Smartbulb is simple but elegant. It is understated and blends in, which is exactly what a light bulb should do.

ilumi Smartbulb and box

That being said, the design does lend itself to some faults. While using the ilumi Smartbulb, it has gotten extremely hot due to the metal body. If something were to happen and you needed to remove the ilumi from a light socket, you will get burned if you attempt to hold it from the sides.

I am not sure if this problem would have been fixed with a plastic body, but I do know that the plastic dome does not get nearly as hot as the rest of the bulb. Even after sitting on my desk for 10 minutes after being taken out of my lamp, the ilumi is still too hot to touch. I would definitely recommend using ilumi Smartbulbs in places they will not be accidentally touched.

Setup

Groups (FILEminimizer)ilumi makes its bulbs extremely straightforward to set up. After downloading the ilumi app from the Play Store, all you need to do is create an account to get started. After putting your ilumi into a light fixture and turning on your phone’s Bluetooth, you should see your bulb appear in the menu.

From there, you can begin to customize your bulb to your liking. You can create Groups to control multiple bulbs at the same time, which can be useful if you have several ilumi Smartbulbs in one room. Once you have placed your bulbs into a group, you are ready to explore the numerous features in the ilumi app.

Features

Color Wheel (FILEminimizer)The ilumi app is full of features, and we will touch briefly on the majority of them. Controlling your bulbs through Groups is a fairly straightforward process. After selecting the group you want to control, you are given a slider for brightness, several preselected color choices, and an RGB color wheel for fine tuning the color and tint of your lights.

Moving on from basic bulb control, there is a section labeled Experiences that contain several features for your ilumi. Rise and Shine is one of my favorite features because you can set it to begin at a certain time, and it will mimic a sunrise to gently wake you up from your sleep. You can change things like the time and days it is active, the duration of the sunrise, and even the type of sunrise.

Music Sync is one of those features that sounds super fun but is actually disappointing. In theory, activating it should cause your ilumi to pulse and change color to the music you are listening to. Unfortunately, I never found that to be the case. My ilumi always seemed to be confused by the music I listened to because it would never change with the beat. Perhaps the effect is best seen in a room with multiple bulbs at the same time, but I found it to be unusable with a single bulb.

Scene Scheduler is useful if you have a fairly structured schedule because it allows you to have your ilumi Smartbulbs change at certain times and on certain days. You can create different Scenes, which are basically preset settings for your ilumi, and schedule them to run at a certain time. This can be useful for those who return home at a specific time because they can have their lights turn on before they get home.

Experiences (FILEminimizer)Vacation is one of the security features built into the ilumi app. Activating it will make you ilumi Smartbulbs turn on and off at random times to simulate you being home. This can be useful to ward off would be criminals or even just pesky neighborhood kids. If you are planning on taking advantage of this feature, I would recommend having several ilumi bulbs throughout your house because the effect is not convincing when only one light turns on and off.

Circadian is a feature meant to help you fall asleep easier. Having this feature enabled will cause your ilumi bulbs to change color throughout the day to mimic the Sun’s natural movement and color. In theory, this should help you get to sleep, but like many of the features in the app, it is probably more useful if you have more than one ilumi Smartbulb.

Torch, like Music Sense, should be an amazing feature but suffers from poor usability. Torch is meant to use your ilumi Smartbulbs as flashlights by turning them on as you get close to them. This way you can find your way around your house at night without having to turn on every light. Unfortunately, I found that it rarely worked with my single bulb. Perhaps it would have worked better with multiple ilumi bulbs, but I am skeptical.

ilumi Smartbulb blue

Simon lets you play a fairly basic game of Simon Says with your ilumi Smartbulb. Even the hardest mode is not extremely challenging, but I imagine that children would have a blast playing it.

The last feature is called Shake, and it allows you to set times when shaking your phone will turn on certain ilumi Smartbulbs. I found this to be much more useful than Torch because I could just shake my phone (which is right next to my bed) if I needed to get out of bed at night, and my lamp would turn on.

Usage

I have been using the ilumi Smartbulb in the lamp in my room for a while now, and I have to say that it is a cool piece of technology. As far as being used for a light bulb, the ilumi is fairly average. It does not get extremely bright, but it is bright enough for most any task. The amount of colors to choose from is incredible and truly allows you to make your house your own.

ilumi green

Since the ilumi is controlled by Bluetooth instead of over WiFi, you are more limited in your ability to control it versus other smartbulbs like the Philips Hue. You must be in fairly close proximity to your bulbs to control them compared to being able to access WiFi connected ones from anywhere.

This limited reach also expands into the security side of smartbulbs. While the ilumi Smartbulb has a few security features such as Vacation mode, the fact that you cannot control your lights from far away means that you cannot activate this mode if you forgot before leaving your house. If the price of the ilumi Smartbulb were less than the price of comparable bulbs from the Philips Hue set, I could see a reason to purchase the ilumi bulbs over WiFi connected bulbs. However at a regular price of $60, I cannot see any reason to purchase an ilumi Smartbulb over a bulb controlled over WiFi.

Conclusion

Although the ilumi Bluetooth Smartbulb is a well-built bulb with several useful features, I believe that it is competing with better bulbs at its current price point. If you do not want to have your bulbs connected over WiFi, then I would strongly recommend the ilumi Smartbulbs. You can purchase the ilumi Bluetooth Smartbulb from Amazon on sale for only $45!

EC Technology Bluetooth 4.0 Speaker: Rock out on a budget (Review)

Overview

We all love getting things at a value and getting good quality out of it. EC Technology has worked tirelessly manufacturing products that provide its global customers with high quality products at budget friendly prices. They have stayed true to that core value with its Bluetooth speaker they offer in its Amazon store for just $24.99.

In the box

  • Bluetooth speaker
  • Instruction manual
  • microUSB cable
  • 3.5 mm audio cable

Design

The EC Tech Bluetooth speaker is one lustrous cubed device that measures in at three inches tall, with a width of two and a half inches wide, and is just heavy enough to feel like a paper weight. Yet, it’s still lightweight and still portable. The top of the speaker is made of black grated plastic, where the power button that also serves as an answer button rounds out the top. While playing music, the built in blue lights, flash making for one beautiful experience.

ECBluetooth

The body is made of a chrome like shiny plastic that you can see your reflection in. You can’t do your makeup in it, but it’s delightful to look at. The one downside is the speaker is a fingerprint magnet, but it doesn’t detract from its great looks.

Around the back is where the two skip buttons reside. If you long press them you control the volume. There is also a microUSB slot for charging, and located to the right of that is a 3.5 mm port for devices that don’t have Bluetooth.

Performance

The speaker volume is modest, the levels are balanced well, and they have an enhanced bass sound. To put it into perspective, one of my favorite songs to test with is Too Close by Next. In my book, a speaker sounds great if it can play my favorite song. The EC Tech Bluetooth speaker had me singing along with the song and it passed my sound test with flying colors. I wouldn’t recommend taking it to the lake on a Saturday, but setting it on your desk at work or perhaps next to your porch swing while reading a good book and drinking a glass of sweet tea would be perfect. It simply doesn’t have the power to be an outdoor speaker.

ECBluetooth2

The EC Technology speaker has remarkable Bluetooth capabilities. You can go up to 30 feet away and through walls you can still reach the speaker. It does have a 3.5 mm audio cable input, but what’s the point if the Bluetooth doesn’t work? Since it has Bluetooth that means you can also make calls from your Android or iOS mobile device. On the receiving end you can hear clearly, however on the receiver’s end, they do have a hard time hearing me if I’m not right up on it.

This speaker has an acceptable battery life. You can easily get six to seven hours of play time, which is great for a work day. If you do need to recharge, it only takes about two hours and you’re ready to go again.

Conclusion

There are a lot of wireless speakers out there. It’s all about getting the biggest bang for your buck. EC Technology is dedicated to that very thing, and has provided a good product for a good price. It’s easy to operate, and easy to hook up. A satisfying bluetooth speaker for $25 is hard to beat.

Flamingo for Twitter: An alternative to the big names (Review)

Overview

The battle still rages to find the perfect Twitter app. The Play Store is flushed with them, however, it remains that there are only a few that dominate. And what’s crazy is that, at the bottom of that top contenders list, is where the official Twitter app lies. Now looking to push the official app even lower is Flamingo for Twitter from Sam Ruston, the creator of Weather Timeline.

Developer: Sam Ruston

Cost: $0.99

Review

FlamingoRight out of the gate you can see that Flamingo has really embraced material design. It uses gestures to change from timeline, mentions, messages, and any other page you wish to add.

Once you click the traditional hamburger menu, you are given those exact same options plus an activity page, profile and your lists. Clicking the settings option opens the possibility of customizing several features to your liking, such as themes, navigation, fonts, and more.

The timeline is laid out in one nice solid color, with a short line dividing the tweets. That color will depend on your currently selected theme, but more on that later.

Once you click on a tweet, you are given all the options you expect from a Twitter app, like retweet, like, quote, etc. Also, when you click a link, it will open a built-in browser so you don’t have to leave the app. The app fully supports GIF playback, with the option of turning off autoplay in order to save your precious data allowance.

When composing a tweet, you have the option of adding your location, pictures, and GIFs, just like in many popular Twitter apps. What’s cool is that, if you have second thoughts about your tweet and don’t want to send it right now, you can save it to your drafts and send it later. It also has autofill when typing in a Twitter handle, which is always handy.

Direct Messages are the same as all apps, except it doesn’t give you the option to delete a conversation, which is a bummer.

Flamingo10Whether you want a preset theme, or really get in there and dig in, Flamingo has it. There are 12 different preset themes that you can choose from. These presets are so diverse that you probably won’t need to do more, but, if you want to, you can change the colors of everything from title text, links, header, and more.

You can also add more pages to the home screen, with content such as specific lists, search, and trends. This adds a lot to customization and really helps in making it your own.

You also have total control of your notifications. You can turn them off individually or all of them with one tap. If you wish to defer notifications to a later time in order to save battery, you can activate the Power Savings mode.

Finally, there are a few awesome features in the Advanced settings entry that I wanted to point out. The first up is turning on/off hover preview. This allows you to long press profile pictures to preview them. Also, Flamingo allows you have different themes for different accounts. This isn’t unique to them, but good nonetheless, especially for a first release.

1 of 11

Conclusion

This is a solid first release by the famed developer Sam Ruston, but a tall order to compete with the likes of Fenix and Talon. I do think it’s better designed than the official app. The developer do needs to add scheduled tweets, as many people depend on this feature. While it is missing that, it does make up for it in price and other useful features. At only one dollar, it’s by far cheaper than the rest. I would suggest giving it a try.

Download and install Flamingo for Twitter from the Google Play Store.

Inateck’s Aries BH1101 Headphones: High-end look for under $20 (Review)

Great headphones for under $20 seem to be a rarity these days and buying them online seems like a shot in the dark. You don’t really know what you’re going to get. I just reviewed some headphones from Inateck that were some amazing sounding budget headphones. Well, I have another pair from them and this time its the Aries Dynamic Driver In-Ear Headphones. That’s such a mouth full that we are gonna call it by it’s model number, BH1101, and for $15.99, they didn’t disappoint.

In the Box

  • BH1101 Headphones
  • 3 Silicone Ear Tips
  • Clothing Clip
  • Carrying Case
  • Airline Adapter
  • Instruction Manual

BH1101-2

Design

Just like before, Inateck makes some high-end looking headphones. The earbuds are made with an aluminium housing and the backs are topped with dark wood that really makes them pop. The four-and-a-half-foot cord is is wrapped in PU Aluminum Foil that prevents it from getting tangled easily. The package says the color is dark gray, but it looks to have a copperish tone to it, which looks amazing.

The inline microphone is encased in aluminium and has a durable button that answers and ends calls and doubles for play and pause for music. One quarter of the way down from the ear buds is an adjustment slider to snug the wires hanging from your ears up. This keeps things nice and tight. While at the bottom, the 3.5 mm connector is made from the same material as the microphone and earbuds making it tough.

To ensure the best possible fit, they have included three different sizes of ear tips (S,M,L). Made from silicone they are comfortable inside the ear. Although they don’t stay in my ear (if you have read any other headphone review from me, you know this is a problem I have) they don’t fall right out; it takes a little work. Inside the tips, they are color coded to make it easy to find matching pairs.

The case is made from a soft cloth that will ensure the protection of all your pieces and even has a compartment for all the small pieces so they don’t just tumble out when you open it. The overall design makes you feel like you got the better end of the deal.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, sound is where it counts. Headphones can be beautiful and still sound crappy. These Hi-Fi headphones seem to focus more on mids and highs. That’s not to say that the bass isn’t there, it’s not just as prevalent. These headphones have a clear and crisp sound. They are great for pop music and podcasts, but you can still enjoy all types of music with them.

Let’s not forget the microphone. Sure it plays music, but that’s only half. I made a few calls, and on both ends, the sound was clear and every word was understandable without any stutters.

One more thing to touch on. People just hate when you blast your music through headphones so loud that they can here it. But Inateck’s headphones are designed so well that you can barely hear anything coming out no matter the volume. It makes being in public more pleasant for everyone.

Conclusion

I consider Inateck a trusted brand in the headphone market. It makes a product that is durable, with high-end style, and an amazing sound that keeps your bank account happy, as well. Add in the clothes clip to keep from the cord catching and an airline adapter all for $15.99 on Amazon and you can’t go wrong!
