Samsung SideSync update features Marshmallow support
Samsung’s latest update for its screen-sharing SideSync app adds support for Marshmallow, hinting that the group could be bringing Android 6.0 to its devices soon.
The latest changelog for SideSync offers some clues as to the future of Marshmallow on Android, even mentioning that certain changes will take effect ‘after Android 6.0’. Simply put, the evidence is mounting that Marshmallow is on its way to Samsung’s tech lineup.
Over on the Play Store, Samsung’s productivity app has been treated to some great user feedback, with the software proving invaluable for thousands of Samsung owners.
Samsung SideSync is a PC-Mobile solution that allows users to share screens, windows and files between their Samsung gadgets and a PC. The tool is compatible with the Galaxy Tab and Galaxy smartphone and also provides keyboard and mouse sharing, meaning it’s possible to use an Android device as a PC input.
Here’s the full changelog:
- Support Android 6.0 OS
- File Transfer improved (After Android 6.0)
- Add Video Player Option (After Android 6.0)
- Add On/Off option of URL Web address share
- Add Option File Save Path for Phone and Tablet
- Add URL Link of Notification Popup
- Usability improved
SideSync is also available to grab from the Galaxy Apps store, although the app changes previously mentioned aren’t listed there at the time of writing.

Unlocked Moto X (2014) receiving Marshmallow from Motorola
Owners of Motorola’s Moto X (2014) should be able to download Marshmallow right now, according to Motorola’s discussion forum.
Users began posting about the update Sunday and continued Monday in response to a question originally posted in October about when carrier-branded versions of the Moto X will receive the updates. Motorola’s website does not indicate any plans to bring the Marshmallow update to carrier-branded versions of the Moto X 2nd Generation in the United States.

Microsoft’s AI no longer listens to ‘Hey Cortana’ on Android

Less than two weeks after Microsoft introduced its hands-free AI helper, Cortana, to Android mobile devices, the company has yanked the feature from the US market. Users used to be able to say “Hey, Cortana” and then issue a command, just like “OK, Google” natively does for Google Now. However, the feature appears to be incompatible with Google’s voice recognition system and, in some cases, could make the phone unusable for commons tasks — like making phone calls.
As such, Microsoft updated the app on Sunday to disable Cortana’s voice activation. The company could well reinstate it once the interference issues are resolved but until then, the only way to talk to Microsoft’s robo-helper in the states for the time being is on a Windows Phone. The feature is, however, still active for non-US customers.

Action Launcher’s December update adds Quickedit icon tool
Action Launcher, one of the most flexible launchers on Android, just got even better thanks to a new Quickedit tool.
The December update, which is free to download on the Play Store, also adds a host of other features including Smartsize icons, Bundled Google Calendar icons for each day of the month and a built-in Marshmallow icon pack. A ‘completely overhauled’ icon picker gives users something new to play with.
Click here to view the embedded video.
Action Launcher’s Chris Lacy admits the star of the show is Quickedit, a ‘bottom sheet panel that is used for quickly editing a shortcut’s label, uninstalling, etc’.
Quickedit can offer suggestions for icon alternatives based on which icon packs a user has installed on their Android smartphone or tablet, which makes it handy for folk that love customising the look of their tech.
Speaking on Google Plus, Lacy adds: “Obviously not everyone has icon packs installed, so there’s handy shortcuts to use Google Photos, Dropbox, etc, or jump to the store. By using the double-tap to apply, you can change icons on a bunch of apps in a few seconds”.
Action Launcher’s makers promise a ‘boatload of bug fixes’ too, so it looks like this December update could spell the best version of Action Launcher yet.

Cortana for Android update removes “Hey Cortana” feature
Microsoft yesterday updated Cortana for Android, removing the “Hey Cortana” feature from the version available in the US market. This comes just a few days after bringing Cortana for Android out of beta and officially launching the full product.
The Redmond-based company hasn’t released an official statement yet, but initial reports indicate that the “Hey Cortana” feature was having conflicts with the device’s microphone.
There was already hints that the “Hey Cortana” feature wouldn’t work properly on Android, which is largely because of developer restrictions.
Microsoft is partnering with Cyanogen to offer Cortana for Android in its fullest form on Cyanogen-powered smartphones, which is as close as Android will get to seeing this function, for now.
This update to Cortana for Android also brings some stability enhancements as well as improved call and text features.
Cortana for Android is available to download for free from the Play Store.

Pre-order the Leagoo Alfa 1 Android Lollipop smartphone for $99.99
On a budget? Or simply of tired of paying a ton for phones?
I am tired of paying hidden fees with cell phone companies, and simply am going the route of unlocked devices to save money. Companies like AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile want to keep you buying $500-800 devices every two years to maximize profits. Mobile carriers keep you locked into service through two-year contracts or financing programs and make the devices and plans seem cheaper than they really are.
You can completely break free of carriers if you’re willing to check out unlocked phones and buy them outright.
For example a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 costs $25 per month, on T-Mobile, over 24 months for the base 32GB model. It will cost you $27.17 a month over 30 months for a Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+ on AT&T and ends up in a total cost of over $800. Do you really want to pay that price for features you may not need? For some people they will always want flagship devices and this post isn’t for them. But with Android being optimized and hardware equalizing, you may want to consider saving yourself money and picking up an unlocked device like the Leagoo Alfa 1 Android Lollipop smartphone for just $99.99.

The world’s ‘most powerful’ smartphone isn’t, but it’s still good

One smartphone maker is learning the hard way why you shouldn’t promise more than you can deliver. Yu (partly owned by India’s Micromax) has unveiled the Yutopia, which it bills as the “most powerful phone on the planet.” There’s only one problem: it isn’t. You’ll find plenty to like in the Cyanogen OS handset between its 5.2-inch quad HD display, Snapdragon 810 chip, 4GB of RAM, 21-megapixel rear camera, 8-megapixel front shooter, fingerprint reader and 3,000mAh battery. However, you’ve seen all of this or better in phones released months ago — odds are that you bought a Galaxy Note 5 or Nexus 6P if you were determined to get the best specs.
However, you might forgive Yu’s stronger-than-usual marketing bluster when you see the price. The Yutopia will sell for 24,999 rupees off-contract, or about $377, when it reaches India on December 26th. Given that even Motorola’s fine Moto X Pure Edition costs $399 in the US, you’re getting a whole lot of phone for the money.

We are giving away the ultimate gift package! An Amazon gift card, Chromecast Audio, Star Wars Cardboard and more
2016 is coming to an end and we are just a week away from Christmas. I know everyone doesn’t celebrate Christmas, but many of you do support giving and especially love getting free stuff.
One perk of writing we have as writers, is getting free stuff to review. We do our best to give you readers an honest opinion so you can make an informed purchase, but the cool part is we get free stuff.
I personally want to thank each and everyone of you, but I cannot afford to buy all of our readers gifts. However I will be giving away a host of items, some of which I personally bought, while others are products I received as review units. It’s a way to say thank you for your support.
Here are some of the products I will be giving away to ONE reader within the United States(I wish I could ship worldwide but shipping fees are expensive):
Dead Zebra Android Mini Special Edition – Bingle Bear
These Android Mini collectibles from Dead Zebra sell out quickly, and are so popular that they frequently gain value over time. Last year’s Christmas edition Androids are selling on ebay for over $50. I love the Android Minis because they look cool and are perfect for any fan of Android. There will also be a couple other Android Minis from my personal collection in the giveaway as well.
Tis the season for gift giving! No doubt the elves have been busy at the workshop.. but so have the lesser known toy production bears! Bingle Bear by Scott Tolleson is here to deliver holiday cheer!
- 3″ vinyl figure.
- Includes removable hat and present accessories.
- Limit two per household.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens Cardboard
Apparently some move called Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now out in theaters, and I guess more than a few people are excited about it. Technically this Cardboard was free from Google, but they ran out of them very quickly, because millions of people around the globe are head over heels for Star Wars! Google Cardboard is a great way to experience Virtual Reality, and you can read more about it at Google Cardboard. The giveaway will include the Google Cardboard Storm Trooper Edition.
$25 Amazon.com Gift Card

Amazon.com is without a doubt my favorite place to shop, and included in the giveaway is a gift card valued at $25. An Amazon.com gift card is almost as good as cash because you can buy practically anything, from gadgets to groceries, Amazon has all of your needs covered.
1byone Plasma Ball Music Speaker
1byone has been behind a couple of big giveaways this year on Androidguys.com, and included in the holiday giveaway will be my review unit of the Plasma Ball speaker. I hate to see this 1byone Plasma Ball go, but I think one of you will enjoy it. You can read my review here. Thanks to Kara at 1byone! 1byone is a company based in China that makes great products at unbelievably low prices.
There are still a few hours left for the 1byone giveaway for 10 portable multi-function power banks here!
Solove Titan 20000mAh Ultra Slim Power Bank
The people behind the Solove Titan 20000mAh are hooking it up with a free 20000mAh portable power bank. My Titan is a must have in my gadget bag and I bring it with me whenever I need power on the go. It earned a 5/5 star rating in my review. I think you’ll love it too. It’s one of the best all around portable power banks you can get today.
Chromecast Audio
Have you heard of Google? The Chromecast Audio was added to its lineup of connected devices and enables you to stream music to any speakers in your household.
What is Chromecast Audio?
Chromecast Audio is a small device that plugs into your speaker for streaming music through WiFi.
Once set up, simply use your iPhone®, iPad®, Android phone and tablet, Mac® and Windows® laptop, or Chromebook to cast your favorite tunes to the best speakers in the house.
dbrand Nexus 5X skin
dbrand is a company you need to check out if you haven’t already. They shipped me two skins for my Nexus 5X(I gave away the extra 6P skin to a lucky reader), but I can only use one. dbrand’s phone skins are literally so cool that people asked where they could buy the carbon fiber version 5X. People who see my 5X truly think my phone is made from carbon fiber. They make a wide variety of skins and you can check them out here.
Tronsmart Quick Charge 2.0 54W 4 Ports Rapid USB Car Charger – LINK
Tronsmart is giving away a four port Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 car charger. Most of us have more than one device that needs charging these days, so do it in style with the car charger from Tronsmart.

There are going to be more surprises in the giveaway box, and one lucky reader is going to win it all. This is the season for giving and it is my favorite time of year. By no means do you have to give in order to qualify for this giveaway, but if you’re in the spirit of giving and have a few extra bucks to spare, check out a few of my favorite charities.
Animals are near and dear to my heart. My cat Poi came all the way from Maui, where she showed up on my doorstep as a kitten, and I simply had to give her a home. My dog Taro was abandoned at a foreclosed home in San Diego as a puppy, and she has filled my heart with love and joy for the past eight years.
The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty has worked endlessly to fight animal cruelty and neglect. They are the nation’s leader in the areas of rescue, adoption and welfare and none of it would be possible without donors like you.
Escondido(San Diego) Humane Society
The Escondido Humane Society is where I adopted Taro and they will always have a special place in my heart. Taro is all I need for Christmas and she is the gift that never stops giving. If you love animals, I promise you that the Escondido Humane Society does wonderful things for domestic animals.
Sacramento, CA is my hometown, and taking care of the hungry and sheltering the homeless has always been a passion of mine. I am heading back to Sacramento to spend time with my family, and my mom and I will be feeding breakfast to the homeless and to those that are less fortunate. Christmas is a time of giving and we should all have compassion for those in need.

Almost all of us use Wikipedia as a resource of endless information. Wikipedia is not paid for by corporate powerhouses and survives solely on the generosity of its readers. They are asking for help to keep us informed without ads. If you use it, consider giving back and help keep it free and ad free.
In no way do you have to donate to charity in order to qualify for the giveaway. Simply make a comment below in order to enter into the contest and a winner will be selected on Christmas Day. But if you do have a few extra dollars, consider giving back and spreading the holiday cheer.
I want to personally thank you for being dedicated and loyal readers. Stay safe and from all of the writers here at AndroidGuys, we wish you happy holidays.
