Spotify video is now on Android and iOS

Spotify’s new video content section, dubbed Shows, hit Android devices this week. And though the feature wasn’t supposed to make it to iOS devices until sometime next week, there is a way for you to access it right now. You won’t be able to access it from the Browse page, as you would on an Android. Instead, iOS users will need to first navigate to the Your Library page and look for the Shows listing under Playlists. That’s it. Once you’re in the Shows page, you’ll be able to browse and search through video content from more than a dozen providers including the BBC, Comedy Central and ESPN.

Fluance Fi70: The world’s first wireless speaker with dual 8″ woofers
Fluance, a North American based home theater company just announced its largest Bluetooth speaker, the Fi70. Fluance is a well-known and award winning brand, and is showing off its prowess with the first wireless speaker to house dual 8″ woofers. Most Bluetooth speakers are small and portable, but few focus on true home audio sound quality. That means you won’t be able to unplug it and carry it with you as it is just built for home use. “Fluance’s Fi70 continues to turn heads with its useful and convenient features. Its aptX streaming capabilities improve the quality of Bluetooth audio, ensuring every single note and beat is heard. It can also be utilized to amplify the sound of a television with its optical input – perfect for upcoming Super Bowl parties. Additional features include auxiliary input, touch controls to adjust a variety of settings, digital AM/FM radio, LED display and a USB port to simultaneously charge USB-powered devices while soaking in the sound.” – Fluance

Reddit starts testing its official Android app

Reddit is finally developing an official Android app, and it has started its closed beta testing phase today. CEO Steve Huffman has announced the development in the middle of a long post talking about how Reddit has changed over the past year and what’s in store for its users. Unfortunately, you can’t sign up for the beta testing phase anymore, and only those who volunteered to test it back in December have gotten access today.
9to5google and Android Police both had the chance to try it out and posted a number of screenshots showing the app’s blue/white (day) and black (night) interface. They both agree that like other software and apps still in beta testing, it still suffers from bugs and could benefit from more features.
Huffman didn’t say when the app will be released to the public, but there’s no shortage of third-party Reddit applications you can use till then. He did reveal, however, that the company’s also developing an iOS version. It’s unclear if that one’s completely separate from Alien Blue, which Reddit snapped up and turned into its official iOS app in 2014.

Reddit’s official Android app just began its closed beta test

In the internet equivalent of a State of the Union address, site founder Steve “spez” Huffman revealed that the closed beta for the official Reddit Android app will be starting today. Applications for the beta opened in December, but we haven’t heard much news about it since then. Only a few thousand candidates were selected to take part in the test, but we look forward to seeing what comes of this app. An iOS beta is also slated to begin soon.
Historically, users have had to rely on third party applications like Reddit is Fun, Baconreader, and Slide. Although access through a mobile browser is possible, the nature of Reddit’s content and organization make a mobile-optimized app a much more convenient option. Since the only options to date have been third party, there have always been hiccups and difficulties when Reddit makes any changes. Having an official Reddit app may make any transitions much smoother.

However, the opposite could also wind up being true. Many Twitter users, for instance, eschew the official app in favor of more powerful third party creations. Depending on the kind of functionality Reddit’s official app will have, it could become the go-to choice like Facebook’s app, or it might just become one of the competition.
There’s no details yet on what this official app will look like, so we’ll have to wait around to see what functions and aesthetics it will offer. If you’re a part of the beta squad, and there’s no agreement preventing you from disclosing your experience, feel free to let us know what it’s like in the comments! In the meantime, what app do you use to browse Reddit? Think you’ll switch to the official one when it comes out?
Yahoo unifies its homepage and news app with more content

Yahoo’s bringing a major overhaul to its homepage and apps for iOS and Android. Today, the internet giant announced it’s making notable content and design changes to these platforms, in an effort to make the experience consistent across the board. One of the main tweaks is how it delivers articles to users: If you have an account, the news feed will now tailor itself for you, with topics you’re interested in. So the more time you spend on the homepage or app, the more they learn about your preferences.

Additionally, Yahoo is also making it easier to keep up with developing stories. You can get real-time updates as a story is developing and, should your heart desire, notifications when new information has been added to the article. It’s definitely an improved way to consume media — that’s particularly beneficial for those of you who are Yahoo power users.

Yahoo Mail app lets you customize your inbox swipes

Yahoo debuted a new Mail app back in the fall, and today the mobile software is getting a few new features. First, both the Android and iOS versions will allow you to customize your swipes. This means that when you’re looking at your inbox, you can opt to swipe right to archive or swipe left to mark as spam. Other actions include starring a message and marking it as read. When using a long press to select multiple messages, you can now star a group of emails or mark them as spam from the so-called multi-select toolbar in the app.
For the iOS version, Yahoo is looking to make hunting for the file you’re trying to attach easier. The app will display a collection of recently received photos and files alongside a search bar so that you can find exactly what you’re looking for quickly. The iOS version also allows you to create, delete and rename folders and subfolders with a long press. Android users can now move or star messages as soon as they arrive. Thanks to actionable notifications, you can deal with an email the moment it arrives on your device. Updates for both OSes are rolling out today.
