Google Keep adds labels and expanded notes hit Android Wear
Google Keep, the company’s stock note-taking app, now displays entire notes on Android Wear devices. Users of Keep that have an Android Wear device can view their notes by swiping around and compose new ones with the “Ok Google, take a note” voice command. Reminders can also be applied through the Android Wear version of Keep.
Another option that Keep users on Android, Chrome, and the web have is applying labels to notes. It looks the same as labels do on Gmail and helps organize notes among a crowded field.

You can now browse through notes with Google Keep on your Android Wear device

If you’re a Google Keep user with an Android Wear device, managing your notes will soon become much easier. In a new update that’s rolling out now, Google Keep is getting better Android Wear support, allowing you to dismiss and scroll through notes directly from your wrist.

In previous versions, you could only use Keep to take a quick note on your wrist, but now you can do much more than that. To open Keep from your Wear device, you can scroll through and select Keep from your apps list, or simply say “OK Google, open Keep.” If you’d like to take a new note, just say “OK Google, take a note.” When the app opens on your wrist, you can scroll through your notes by swiping up and down, tap on an existing note to view it, or press the plus sign to create a new note. Also in this update, Google has added in recurring reminder support on Android Wear, too.
The update is rolling out to the Google Play Store as we speak. You can follow the Play link below to check for the update, or if you don’t want to wait, we’ve attached the APK file below.
LG Watch Urbane coming to Google Store soon

The Watch Urbane, G Watch R’s swanky-looking brother, is finally hitting stores, two months after its official unveiling.
LG announced earlier that the Watch Urbane will be landing in South Korea this week at an unspecified price, with customers in twelve other countries to get the option to buy it from this month through Google Store (formerly the hardware section of the Play Store). LG said that details about availability and price will be released when the phone actually goes on sale, though we expect a higher price tag than the $300 the G Watch R goes for.
The Watch Urbane shares with the G Watch R the 1.3-inch OLED display, Snapdragon 400 processor, 4GB of storage and 410 mAh battery. The differences are largely cosmetic, with the Urbane sporting a more sophisticated, less aggressive design that should appeal to more users.

The Watch Urbane will be the first smartwatch to get Android Wear 5.1, announced on Monday, which brings Wi-Fi support, always-on apps, and interface changes. The Urbane will ship with 5.1 out of the box.

LG has today announced that the LG Watch Urbane will be the first Android Wear device to receive and be sold with the latest Android Wear update that we detailed a few days ago. Not to be confused with the similarly named LG Watch Urbane LTE which doesn’t run Android Wear, the LG Watch Urbane will start being sold this week in LG’s native Korea, gradually rolling out in other markets including Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Spain, the UK and the US, and it will be available right from the Google Play Store. There’s still been no word on pricing, but we’d be surprised if it got much more than $300 USD, which is pushing it in this current wearable climate.
For those who have forgotten what the LG Watch Urbane is all about (including us), it’s LG latest Android Wear device which incorporates a stainless steel body with genuine leather strap for LG’s most premium smartwatch yet. Inside, though, it’s almost identical to LG’s previous two smartwatches, the LG G Watch and LG G Watch R, though LG is touting two new features available only on the Urbane including LG Call and LG Pulse, the former for making calling easier and the latter for much more accurate fitness tracking.

PREMIUM LG WATCH URBANE FIRST NEW
ANDROID WEAR DEVICE TO FEATURE LATEST OSElegantly Designed Smartwatch Rolls Out Worldwide
With Latest Technology and Performance
SEOUL, Apr. 23, 2015 ― LG Electronics (LG) will begin the global rollout of its premium LG Watch Urbane this week in South Korea to be followed by key markets in North America, Europe and Asia in the weeks to come. Customers in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Spain, the United Kingdom and the United States will be able to purchase the LG Watch Urbane on Google Store starting this month. At MWC 2015, the LG Watch Urbane received numerous awards and accolades from consumers, media and industry thought leaders for its modern design, full-circle Plastic OLED (P-OLED) display and overall usefulness. The LG Watch Urbane carries over the 1.3-inch P-OLED display from the LG G Watch R but features a less prominent and lower profile bezel. Its dimensions are smaller overall and thinner, without reducing the size of the display or the battery. Responding to consumers’ desire for style as well as function, the LG Watch Urbane has a full metal body with a stitched genuine leather strap. The stainless steel body is available in a luxurious polished rose gold and silver, accentuated further with a narrow bezel that gives the device the sleek lines of a classic timepiece. Unlike many other competing smartwatches, the band can be exchanged with any replacement 22mm leather, silicone or metal strap for the ultimate in convenience and personalization.
LG Watch Urbane is the first new smartwatch powered by the latest version of Android Wear which works seamlessly with smartphones running Android 4.3 and above. Some of the features available for the first time on any Android Wear device include Wi-Fi connectivity, always-on apps to keep the display from going dark when running, navigating or even grocery shopping and an improved UX that makes launching favorite apps and getting in touch with friends easier than ever before with everything now front-and-center.
The latest OS allows users to send emojis by drawing them directly on the LG Watch Urbane. Draw a smiley face, a clock showing a certain time or any other pictures and Android Wear will match your drawing to the closest Unicode emoji for sending to another Android Wear watch, smartphone, or computer. Other improvements include the ability to change the font size and see notifications even when looking at another function on the display, such as directions. What’s more, the screen on the LG Watch Urbane can now be set to lock automatically when it is removed from the wrist.
Included in LG Watch Urbane are two new and useful features not available on other Android Wear devices: LG Call and LG Pulse. LG Call allows the wearer to access recent calls and the favorite contacts list on the connected smartphone to dial out directly from the watch. When connected to a Bluetooth headset, there is no need to remove the phone from one’s pocket to place a call. And LG Pulse takes health monitoring to a whole new level by measuring the wearer’s heart rate every second during exercise with no maximum time limit. At the end of the activity, LG Pulse will report the average heart rate over the entire duration of the activity and display a heart rate graph on LG Health (coming soon).
“The LG Watch Urbane is the third Android Wear device introduced by LG in the past year which demonstrates our commitment to this platform,” said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “More importantly, LG Watch Urbane is a perfect example that Android Wear watches can be functional and beautiful and a useful accessory that complements any wardrobe. No one would mistake LG Watch Urbane for a computer on your wrist.”
Price and additional purchase details will be announced locally at the time of availability.

LG Watch Urbane heads to the Google Store in 13 countries by end of April
Next on the Android Wear release schedule is the LG Watch Urbane. This evening, LG issued a press release that states the smartwatch will be available through the Google Store in thirteen countries by the end of April (or next week). Along with an unspecified date, LG did not provide a price. Also, this is merely for the rollout of the Watch Urbane and that means shipping will likely take place at a later time. It could be June before anyone gets their smartwatch.
The wait could be worth it, however, as the Watch Urbane has specifications to put it at the top of its class. The completely round 1.3-inch display has 320×320 resolution and P-OLED technology. Inside is the usual Snapdragon 400 processor and collection of sensors. Two unique feature are LG Call for viewing recent calls and LG Pulse for monitory heart rate with no pause. And, right out of the box, the Watch Urbane has the latest version of Android Wear.
Being that the G Watch R has a $299 price tag, the Watch Urbane could reach $349.
Hit the break for the full press release.

Android Wear companion app gets big update, ahead of new firmware

Earlier this week Google officially announced a new update for the Android Wear platform adding Wi-Fi support, always-on apps, Emoji drawings, an easier way to access AW apps, and more. While we are still waiting for this update to roll out, Google has now introduced a new version of the Android Wear companion app that will be needed in order to take advantage of some of the new firmware features heading to our watches.
First up, the interface has been drastically improved, making better use of Material Design while adding new Google Now-like cards to the main screen that bring important info front and center. The settings have also been switched up a bit. Clicking on settings will give you a list of general settings, but you’ll need to tap on “Device Settings” to go to a new screen that contains options like tilt to wake, ambient screen, and other device-specific settings.
Aside from the aesthetic changes, there’s also some pretty important feature additions as well. The biggest change is the addition of cloud sync, which will basically let you use your watch through Wi-Fi, with no need for the phone to be within range anymore, as long as you have a strong Wi-Fi connection. Of course, this feature will require the upcoming firmware update before it can be utilized. Last but not least, the update makes it easy to pair multiple Wear device and quickly switch between them without needing to go back through the repairing process. Most of us only own one Android Wear watch, but for those that like different types of watches for different settings (formal, casual, etc) — this could eventually come in handy.
The latest update is rolling out gradually to Google Play, though you can grab the APK now if you wish to avoid the wait.
Android Wear companion app updated with support for Wi-Fi, multiple watches, and more [APK Download]
A couple of days ago, Google announced that Android Wear will get a major update in the coming weeks that will bring support for Wi-Fi, always on apps, the ability to draw emojis, and more. It’s no surprise that the companion Android Wear app just received an update in preparation for some of these changes, but it also adds a couple of new goodies.
When you open the app for the first time after the update, you will notice a screen asking you to accept that your watch will be connected to Wi-Fi via CloudSync. You will however still need to enable CloudSync in the settings. I should note that none of this matters until your watch receives the new update.
The main screen is also different in that it gives you a chance to watch a video showing you the features of your watch. You will also find sections for “Jump into action with watch apps” and “Try out watch notifications.”
Another new feature is the ability to pair more than one watch and easily switch between them without having to re-pair them. I am not sure how many people own multiple Android Wear watches, but it’s a nice feature to have.
The Settings have also changed in that there are now two settings screens. The first page is more general and includes a new option for Calendar settings in which you can select what types of events will show on the watch itself. You can tap on the device to open a second page of settings that include the usual stuff like “Tilt to wake” and “Card Previews.”
This update is rolling out slowly so you might not see it in Google Play as available to you for several days, but we have the APK download link for you if you’re impatient and want to sideload now.

Android Wear update is coming soon, bringing always-on apps, Wi-Fi support, and gestures

The Android Wear family is growing with every passing month and with so many new faces, Google has seen fit to announce that a Android Wear update is on its way. The update will bring three main areas of improvement for Android Wear users, including support for always-on apps, Wi-Fi, and gestures to control your wearable and how you interact with it.
First up, always-on app support will allow apps to stay on screen, meaning you will be able to see them on your watch display even after the screen has dimmed. This is not dissimilar to the option which allows your watch face to remain visible after dimming. This will definitely be an important feature once Android Wear apps start to get better and more useful, but we’ll have to see if battery life incurs any kind of penalty with this new feature.
Next on the list is Wi-Fi support. Unbeknownst to many people (including me), most of the Android Wear smartwatches out there support Wi-Fi, which means they can independently connect to a Wi-Fi connection. What this means is that after this Android Wear update drops, as long as your phone has a data connection and your smartwatch is connected to Wi-Fi, you will be able to get notifications.
Gestures looks to be one of the more interesting parts of this Android Wear update. The first gesture feature will allow you to scroll through notification items just by flicking your wrist. Google is also finally adding some easier phone capabilities into Android Wear, adding an apps list and contacts list once you tap the screen.
The last gesture feature Google elaborated on is emoji support, which will allow you to reply to messages simply by drawing an emoji with your finger and your smartwatch will figure out what emoji you meant.
All-in-all, this Android Wear update looks like it’s going to introduce a lot of neat features that are going to make your Android Wear experience just that much better. What do you think about these updates? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

LG confirms the G Watch doesn’t have WiFi built-in
With Android Wear 5.1 expected to bring the WiFi feature to smartwatches, there has been much speculation about which devices will get the feature. Bad news awaits early adopters of the Android Wear platform as LG has confirmed that its G Watch will not get the WiFi feature when the new update is rolled out over the coming weeks.
This is perhaps the only Android Wear smartwatch out there that doesn’t support WiFi due to lack of necessary hardware. LG has mentioned that the G Watch R and the Watch Urbane come with WiFi preinstalled, so these devices should get the feature as scheduled.
Strangely, the Samsung Gear Live which was announced alongside the G Watch in mid 2014 was revealed to have a WiFi chip built in by teardowns, so it’s likely that the Samsung wearable will receive support for the feature as well.
Motorola and Sony have openly confirmed that their devices (Moto 360 and Sony SmartWatch 3) will be getting the WiFi feature with Android Wear 5.1. The ASUS ZenWatch has also been revealed to be packing WiFi support.
That leaves the LG G Watch to be the only device at this point which will not have support for the feature. The smartwatch will still receive the all new app-drawer, contacts, emojis and some other nifty features, so not all hope is lost for the users.
