Got $1,400 spare? Then TAG Heuer’s Android Wear smartwatch just might be for you

We’ve known for some time now that TAG Heuer has intended to make a smartwatch to combat the likes of the Apple Watch (their words, not ours), but today is the first time that we’re hearing of a potential release window and a price. The new, reported by Bloomberg, places TAG Heuer’s Android Wear smartwatch for a October or November launch later this year, and alleges that it will cost $1,400 USD. Realistically, that isn’t much for a watch, much less a TAG Heuer watch, but in the smartwatch market where your options are usuallyin the $250-$400 range, $1,400 is a pretty large leap of faith.
What we do know about the watch is that it will be powered by an Intel processor, as announced last month, and will allegedly last for 40 hours on one battery charge. It almost sounds ludicrous to be saying that 40 hours is impressive for a watch, but it is, and could be a key differentiator for those wanting to sleep with their watch or just want a little more juice from their wearable. Either way, even if none of us end up being able to afford it, at least we’ll get to see what a smartwatch made by a Swiss-watchmaker is supposed to look like.

Yesterday the new LG Watch Urbane made its debut on the Google Store for a good portion of the world to order. It carried a $349.00 price tag with a ship date starting May 8th. Prior to that news we got our hands on some information that Verizon Wireless would be carrying the device on April 28th. Looks like the docs panned out and Verizon is indeed offering the new Android Wear toting device.
Running through the order process I see that Verizon is offering FREE 2-day shipping on all orders. That would place the LG Watch Urbane to your door by April 30th if you get your order in now. If you want to shell out a few bucks more, $12.99, you can opt for overnight delivery. The only potential downside is that the Verizon offering is only available in silver with the gold option not present. If the silver variant was your choice to begin with, then the $0.99 difference to have the device a week earlier than those who jumped on the Google Store option is a small price to pay.
Direct yourself over to Verizon Wireless to get your order started.

TAG Heuer’s first Android Wear smartwatch to launch by November for $1,400

About a month ago, we got word that luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer was beginning to develop a high-end Android Wear smartwatch, though details were scarce when we first heard the news. Now a bit more information is beginning to trickle in, thanks to a new report from Bloomberg. Jean-Claude Biver, CEO of TAG Heuer, on Wednesday said that the company would begin selling the smartwatch sometime around October or November of this year. The watch will go to market for about $1,400 and will boast up to 40 hours of battery life on a single charge.

Android Wear has yet to see a high-end option, the most expensive ranging up to $349.99. And of course, 40 hours of battery life is more than any of the available Android Wear devices can offer at this time.
When asked about the Apple Watch and the high price tag associated with the wearable, Biver commented:
I hope they sell millions and millions and millions of [Apple Watches]. The more they sell the more a few people will want something different and come to TAG Heuer.

These are the only details we have regarding the new Android Wear device, but we’ll be sure to update you as we hear more. Would you be interested in a high-end Swiss-made Android Wear device? Or would you rather stick to the low-cost items?
TAG Heuer smartwatch to come with big price tag and long battery life
Jean-Claude Biver, who is heading up the effort to bring a TAG Heuer smartwatch powered by Android Wear to market later this year, revealed some new details about the device in comments at a recent store opening. According to Biver, the TAG Heuer device is expected to hit the market in October or November at a starting price point of $1,400. Biver did not indicate whether the device that sells for that amount will be the only version available or if that is just the base and prices for other versions could be higher. TAG Heuer hopes to compete against Apple in the smartwatch market, whose watches start at $349, but can go for as much as $17,000 for versions in gold.
Biver also indicated that the TAG Heuer watch will come with a battery projected to last 40 hours on a single charge. Although the price may turn off a lot of buyers, that long battery life should make the device attractive to many interested consumers. After all, anyone who buys one may be able to make it through a short weekend jaunt to the resort without needing a recharge if that projected battery life holds up.
In his comments, Biver also indicated that the company looks forward to competing with Apple,
“I hope they sell millions and millions and millions of them. The more they sell the more a few people will want something different and come to TAG Heuer.”

Google Play Services version 7.3 SDK now available, brings Google Fit enhancements and ability to connect multiple Android Wear watches to one device
Google has been updating all Android devices to Google Play Services 7.3, and they just announced the roll out has been completed. What does it bring to the table?
As we learned last week, Android Wear has a pretty big update and Google Play Services 7.3 plays a big role in that. It allows you to connect more than one Android Watch to your device. The Capability API is new, which allows apps to communicate different things to devices with different features. The Channel API is also new, which creates a bidirectional data connection between nodes for the transfer of larger binary files.
Users will of course need the latest Android Wear companion app and the newest Android Wear update, which should be rolling over the next few weeks.
Google Fit now has the ability to track granular nutritional information such as protein, fat, cholesterol, and more. Third party apps can start implementing these data types now. It’s also now easier for apps to retrieve data totals for the day, making it great for watch faces.
Lastly, you may not realize it, but a lot of apps are asking for your location these days, which can be a battery drain. Google has updated the LocationRequest with a maximum wait time for location updates via setMaxWaitTime(). This way the system will batch location updates together, which will not only consume battery, but it could improve location accuracy on some devices.

LG Watch Urbane now available at AT&T
The LG Watch Urbane is already available from Google and Verizon Wireless, and now it’s available at AT&T. For starters, it’s only available online, but it will hit stores on May 15.
Unfortunately, just like Verizon Wireless, AT&T is only offering the Silver option. The price is the same as Google and Verizon, which is $349. However, the best deal might be Verizon since they are offering Free two day shipping, while Google and AT&T only offer standard shipping for Free.
Are you buying one?

Google cuts prices on the Moto 360 and LG G Watch R.
Smartwatches are all the rage nowadays (or whatever kids are saying these days) and Google knows it. It seems that they are quickly becoming more prominent than regular watches, and with good reason. Let’s see that shiny Rolex of yours tell you what time it is AND the weather…nope…how about sending a message? No? Darn it. Anyway, in a move that we can only assume is in response to said trend, Google has decided to cut the price of the LG G Watch from $299 to $249 and to $179 from $249 for the Moto 360. That is a nice $50 and $70 price for the Android Wear devices, in that order.
We recently finished posted a review on the Moto 360 and found it to be the top Android Wear device on the market today, so if you read that earlier (You should head over if you haven’t, like, now) and had been waiting for a nice price cut before getting one, now would be the time.
