Motorola delays Moto 360 software update because it’s “not quite there yet”
The software update hitting Android Wear devices around the world has yet to make it to the Moto 360. Motorola does have a reason for that. An owner of the smartwatch concerned with the software update’s status asked the company what was going on. The company responded on Twitter by saying that “performance is not quite there yet.” However, Motorola is actively working with Google to ensure the update arrives soon without any bugs.
@davidcstevens_ Performance is not quite there yet. We’re working with Google to ensure the software works great on #Moto360. Thanks.

Another job well done by Motorola for being so transparent.

Motorola says performance issues are delaying the Moto 360’s Android Wear 5.1.1 update

Motorola’s Moto 360 still has yet to receive the big update to Android Wear 5.1.1, and apparently that’s for good reason. According to a recent tweet sent out by Motorola Mobility in response to a curious 360 owner, the update still isn’t ready for the Wear device because of performance issues. No specifics were called out in the tweet, so we’re not quite sure what exactly is holding Motorola back from unleashing the update.

Of course, many owners will be upset that their devices haven’t gotten the update, but it’s good that Motorola is working with Google to fix the issues before sending it out to the masses.

For those unaware, Android Wear 5.1.1 brings many new features, including the ability to set always-on applications, new gestures for scrolling through Google Now cards, and a much more refined contacts/app menu. The update also brings Wi-Fi support, allowing compatible devices to receive notifications, as long as your watch and your phone are both connected to a Wi-Fi network. This update is the biggest one since Android Wear’s inception, so hopefully Motorola can get things sorted out in a timely fashion.
LG’s G Watch R is unofficially discontinued in favor of the Watch Urbane
Bad news if you were trying to hunt down an LG G Watch R instead of a Watch Urbane; it looks like production of LG’s first rounded smartwatch is coming to an end.
The G Watch R is showing unavailable in Google’s store, which typically only happens at the end of a device’s lifespan, and while LG’s US site doesn’t say anything about it, Best Buy doesn’t show any available inventory. The key there is that it’s “unavailable,” not “out of stock.”
Discontinued products aren’t uncommon, especially in the fast moving world of electronics. But if you see a G Watch R in a store somewhere and you’ve been thinking about buying one, you may want to pick it up. It probably won’t be there the next time you go back.

Yesterday, the ASUS ZenWatch 2 was announced at Computex 2015, and for the most part looks like a very nice evolution over its predecessor. Keeping mostly the same form factor, the ZenWatch 2 now offers more customization options including 2 body size variants, 3 body colours and an assortment of first-party accessories to spruce up your watch band. As the event has gone on, we’ve found out about a few more features of the ZenWatch 2, in particular the fact that it boasts 4 days of battery life. Compared to a conventional watch, it seems almost ludicrous to glorify 4 days of battery, but in the Android Wear world, 4 days is almost an eternity – we’ll have to see if the production models actually do this when they are actually released.
The ZenWatch 2 also introduces a digital crown, however this only appears to operate as a power button. There are also quite a few improvements to what existed on the original ZenWatch, such as improvements to the remote camera viewfinder feature which lets you see what your camera is seeing all on your watch. We’re interested to see the verdict about the ZenWatch 2 when reviews start pouring in because it seems like ASUS has made lots of little tweaks that should make its latest smartwatch an even better companion.
What do you think about the ASUS ZenWatch 2? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

The Carrera Wearable 01 will be TAG Heuer’s first Android Wear device

Luxury watch maker TAG Heuer’s high-end Android Wear device isn’t slated to launch until November 2015, but it looks like a few early details are starting to surface regarding the wearable. In an interview with Wearable, TAG Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver outed that the company’s first Android Wear device would be called the Carrera Wearable 01. The Wearable 01 will be largely influenced by the recently-launched Carrera Heuer 01 (pictured above).
The CEO explains:
There is no other choice for Tag Heuer than to have all its DNA, all its watchmaking emotion and flair into the connected watch. Somehow, one should not see from a certain distance the difference between a Carrera Heuer 01 and a Carrera Wearable 01.

Not only are we given a hint as to what the new wearable will look like, the report also implies that the Carrera Wearable 01 may be able to withstand the test of time. TAG Heuer’s UK communications manager Alexandra King talks about the potential lifespan of the device:
If your child completed their Masters degree, you might want to give them a watch. We want to create something that will stay on your watch for a lifetime, that’s what Tag Heuer does. And as the technology changes, it will change.
No clarification was given regarding King’s statements, so it looks like we’ll have to wait until the wearable’s launch later this year to find out more. According to past reports, the smartwatch is slated to launch for around $1,400 and potentially come with a 40-hour battery life.
So, what are your thoughts on the wearable so far? If the Carrera Wearable 01 turns out to look just like the Carrera Heuer 01, could this be a viable option for you?
Tag Heuer names its first Android Wear Device, the Carrera Wearable 01
Tag Heuer, the watch company famous for its high-quality (and very expensive) Swiss-made watches, has unveiled the name of its first Android Wear watch, the Carrera Wearable 01.
The watch, according to Tag Heuer CEO Jean-Claude Biver, will be upgradable “for a lifetime,” and will cost around $14,000. Powered by Intel silicon, the watch will run the latest version of Android Wear. As for the “lifetime” upgradability, we’re not so sure what this entails, but Biver says the watch will be upgradable as time goes on and technology matures. The goal is to have the watch “last a lifetime.”
Expect a Q4 release for the Carrera Wearable 01.

Get the low down on the new Asus ZenWatch 2
Earlier this morning, at the Computex Conference in Asia, Asus introduced the world to the latest iteration of their Android Wear smart watch. The Asus ZenWatch 2. Since it was in the wee-hours of the morning, we didn’t have all the details on the specs of the two different options of the ZenWatch 2. Now that everyone (on the East Coast) has been awake for awhile now, we have the specs for the two options.
As we noted this morning, Asus is bringing two different watches to the game with the ZenWatch 2. There will be a 49m model, and a new 45mm model. As for the specs for both, they are matching for the most part, with only two differences. The first difference is that the 49mm model will have a a 22mm strap width, while the new 45mm version will have a 18mm strap width. The other difference, one of which was briefly mentioned this morning, is that the 49mm rendition of the ZenWatch 2 will have the ability to act as a mobile power bank.
Now there are three different options for case colors for both models. The ZenWatch 2 will come in either Gunmetal, Rose Gold, or Silver. Asus has also added a metal crown to the side, which will change how users interact with and control some of the features included with the ZenWatch 2.
In regards to the straps that will be available, there is a special option through a partnership with Swarovski that will bring a diamond pattern, laden with crystals, professional leather strap. If you aren’t looking for the special order, bling-y Swarovski leather strap, Asus announced that there will be a total of 18 different watch/strap combinations.
It has been confirmed that both versions of the Asus ZenWatch 2 will run the latest version of Android Wear, version 5.1.1 Lollipop. This version was introduced, and released originally on the LG G Watch Urbane last month, but has been slowly rolling out to other Android Wear devices.
Now if you’re looking for the specific specs for each watch, here they are:
Asus ZenWatch 2 WI501Q
- Processor: Qualcomm Processor
- OS: Android Wear
- Display: 2.5D curved AMOLED Corning Gorilla Glass 3
- Charging: Magnetic Charging Cable
- Water Resistance: IP67
- Dimensions: 49mm x 41mm
Asus ZenWatch 2 WI50Q
- Processor: Qualcomm Processor
- OS: Android Wear
- Display: 2.5D curved AMOLED Corning Gorilla Glass 3
- Charging: Magnetic Charging Cable
- Water Resistance: IP67
- Dimensions: 45mm x 37mm
Something to take note of is the fact that Asus did not release the specifications for the battery, but we have seen some instances where it’s been mentioned that the ZenWatch 2 will be able to get up to 4 days of battery life. More than likely that’s just speculation, however, if that’s what ends up being the case, that’s huge for Android Wear, and puts the ZenWatch 2 at the top of the list for Android Wear devices to purchase.
Pricing and availability have yet to be announced, but we can expect there to be somewhat of a difference between the 49mm and 45mm options, as well as the option to get the Swarovski leather strap. We can also expect to hear more about the ZenWatch 2 in the third quarter of this year, more than likely around the beginning of the fall.

Swedish automaker Volvo has just announced that it’s now applying the finishing touches to its On Call app for Android Wear and Apple Watch.
Both applications will enable Volvo owners to remotely lock/unlock their car, switch on their heater/air conditioner and check fuel/mileage. There’s even a feature on board that can be used to locate your car in a busy parking lot.
Volvo aims to have On Call available to download on both the App and Play Store by the end of June.
Do you own a Volvo? If so, is this an app you’d like to get your hands on? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.

ASUS announces the ZenWatch 2 Android Wear smartwatch, comes in two sizes and three color choices
ASUS has already announced the ZenWatch 2, only 9 months after the original was unveiled. It doesn’t look all that much different, but there are some subtle differences.
The first is that you will notice a button on the side. This is actually a good thing because you now won’t always have to tap on the screen to wake it. It also provides you a quick way to get to the settings (long press) or put the watch into Theater Mode (double press).
Next up is that ASUS will offer two sizes. With most people complaining that smartwatches are too big for those with smaller wrists, this is a good move. Apple is already doing this, so it’s no surprise that one of the Android Wear manufacturers would offer the same. The larger one will measure 49 x 41 mm and will match with 22 mm bands, while the smaller one will measure 45 x 37 mm and gets paired with 18 mm bands. Speaking of bands, ASUS will offer a variety of bands consisting or rubber, leather and metal. Considering that the watch itself will be available in either Silver, Rose Gold, or Gunmetal, ASUS says there will be 18 different combinations of material and colored straps.
Click here to view the embedded video.
Another positive change is the charger, which is now magnetic, much like what LG offers for their smartwatches. Recharging time is also supposed to be much faster. Now everyone wants more battery life so they are offering something called a Chargeback battery case, which it sits under the watch to provide more battery life. This will only be available for the larger model.
Lastly, the ZenWatch 2 is more dust and waterproof than it’s predecessor. It’s now rated at IP67.
As far as the actual specs of the watch, ASUS didn’t go into much at all. It does have an AMOLED display along with 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass 3. It will have a Snapdragon processor, but we aren’t sure which one. They also didn’t show off the software since it hasn’t been finalized yet. It’s obviously Android Wear, but they will offer some enhancements that will center around their own wellness apps.
If you have your eye the ZenWatch 2, don’t pull out your wallet just yet. This one won’t get released until quarter 3, which will more than likely mean September. No pricing was mentioned, but the larger one will probably be priced about the same as the current model, which is $199.

Asus announces new ZenWatch 2 at Computex
While many of of us are asleep, or should be asleep in my case, there’s actually a pretty big and important conference going on over in Asia. Known as Computex, this is Asia’s largest tech exhibition, and where companies like Asus make various announcements. Hot off the heels of Google I/O, and the latest update to Android Wear, which was rolled out with the LG Watch Urbane, Asus has announced the successor to the ZenWatch.
Not too much has been announced about the Asus ZenWatch 2, however, we do know that there will be two different sizes, 45mm, and 49mm. Along with the two new sizes, Asus is adding three different body styles, and new watchbands, there will be up to 18 different combinations available for whatever style you are looking for. Asus has also partnered with Swarovski to bring a more extravagant look to the straps for the ZenWatch 2.
What makes the larger ZenWatch 2 more interesting is that Asus is stating that users will be able to use the 49mm version as a mobile power bank. Surely this will not be for any extended period of time, but could definitely help out in a pinch. Battery size has not been announced, so if you have a phone with a huge battery, you may be out of luck regardless.
Asus has also changed the charging mechanism on the ZenWatch 2 to allow for faster charging. We are only 6 months removed from the announcement of the original ZenWatch so we can only speculate the reasons behind why Asus got such a head start on the ZenWatch 2, to the point that it was announced today.
More details will be coming as the Computex conference progresses, so be sure to keep an eye out of the specs and fun stuff that can be expected today. Meanwhile, let us know what you think about the latest rendition of the ZenWatch from Asus.
