Motorola refines the Moto 360 by tailoring the smartwatch for everyone
The world is full of rectangular displays, but the original Moto 360 actually resembled a traditional watch with its display’s round shape. Motorola pushed engineering boundaries with the design of last year’s standout smartwatch. Now the company is back with a new, refined Moto 360 that is made the way you want it. The Moto 360 may have not changed too much since its debut, yet you’ll notice that customization is as important as ever to Motorola.
Since Android Wear devices are typically similar, here is a quick rundown of key specifications:
- 1.37- (360×325) or 1.56-inch (360×330) display
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor
- 512MB of RAM
- 4GB of internal storage
- 300mAh or 400mAh battery (with wireless charging)
- Optical heart rate monitor
The way in which bands are attached to Motorola’s smartwatch has changed with the inclusion of lugs. Bands have a quick-release switch to easily remove and replace them.
Both men and women now have the option purchase a Moto 360 that was designed specifically for them. The smartwatch now comes in two sizes: 42mm and 46mm. Men can choose from either size while women, if they so choose to buy based on the recommend size for their gender, are offered only the 42mm size. The design choices, too, differ for men and women. Rather than having the men’s Chamfer and Micro Knurl bezel treatments, women are able to choose between peak and micro etch looks. And, of course, women are offered the Rose Gold case color and bezel color instead of the men’s black.
Men’s Choices:
- Watch sizes: 42mm, 46mm
- Case Colors: Silver, Black, Gold
- Bezel Treatments: Chamfer, Micro Knurl
- Bezel Colors: Silver, Black, Gold
- Bands: Silver Metal, Black Metal, Gold Metal, Black Leather, Cognac Leather
Women’s Choices:
- Case Colors: Silver, Gold, Rose Gold
- Bezel Treatments: Peak, Micro Etch
- Bezel Colors: Silver, Gold, Rose Gold
- Bands: Silver Metal, Gold Metal, Rose Gold Metal, Blush Leather, Grey Leather, Blush Double Wrap
Moto Body, which Motorola calls “a holistic experience that helps you lead a healthier lifestyle,” acts as the Moto 360’s health and fitness companion service. It actively tracks steps taken, monitors heart rate, and measures calories burned. But Moto Body expands upon those statistics by providing feedback and coaching to motivate you to give your health the attention it deserves.
An exclusive feature brought to the Moto 360 is Live Dials. Shortcuts to your most-used apps are pinned right on the watch face.
Motorola, Best Buy, and the Google Store have the Moto 360 available for pre-order starting today. Nordstrom, Best Buy, and Verizon retail stores will then selling the smartwatch in late September. Based on your design, prices range from $299-$429.

Looking for a fitness-focused smartwatch? Motorola’s Moto 360 Sport is for you
Motorola’s smartwatch, the Moto 360, is known for being a design masterpiece. The stainless steel and round display are just some of what gives the Moto 360 its appeal. Its design, though, may not be ideal for consumers that want to use the Moto 360 while running or working out at the gym. Either the smartwatch will be uncomfortable to wear or likely nicked and perhaps damaged during any type of workout. Enter the Moto 360 Sport.
The Moto 360 Sport is Motorola’s first take on offering a wearable device to fitness enthusiasts. This smartwatch drops any signs of metal or leather in favor of a silicon construction that wicks away moisture and has ventilation on the band. And the display features a front-lit reflective technology that pairs with the traditional LCD display to keep the Moto 360 Sport visible at all times.
To really make this a smartwatch for people that are always active, Motorola included an on-board GPS. What exactly does it do? It allows users to track their speed, distance, and pace.
Battery life on the Moto 360 Sport is longer than any other Moto 360 generation or model, reaching for around two days of use.
Availability and pricing for the Moto 360 Sport will be announced within the next 3-4 weeks.

Huawei Watch available to pre-order today, launches September 17
Huawei today at IFA 2015 confirmed that the much anticipated Huawei Watch will officially launch on September 17, albeit those eager to get their hands on one can pre-order a unit today.
The Chinese-based company has a Huawei Watch for just about anyone. There’s a stainless steel option with a black leather band ($349), or if you fancy something more high-class, Huawei has a gold plated stainless steel watch with a golden metallic band available ($799).
Those are the lowest and highest prices available, but there’s a few other options between those price points.
Keep in mind that the Huawei Watch will also work for our friends using an iPhone, too. Google just recently announced the news, making Android Wear compatible with iOS 8.2 or higher, albeit the compatibility only goes as low as the iPhone 5. Anything earlier than that loses out, unfortunately.
The Huawei Watch sports a Snapdragon 400 dual-core 1.2GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and has a circular AMOLED 400 x 400 display.
Classic Watch Design and Smartwatch Function Come to the U.S. with Introduction of the Huawei Watch
Huawei Watch pre-orders start today with mid-September availability
PLANO, Texas [September 2, 2015]: Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology solutions provider, today announced U.S. availability and pricing of the highly-anticipated Huawei Watch, a new smartwatch that redefines smart by blending timeless, uncompromising design with the functionality of Android Wear™.
Starting today, consumers can pre-order the Huawei Watch on GetHuawei.com, Google Store, Amazon.com and BestBuy.com. General availability and pre-order shipments begin September 17th. Six models with stainless steel, black and rose gold-plated watch bodies will be available in the U.S. with prices ranging from $349 to $799 USD. Stainless steel and black models are available for pre-order today, with rose gold models available later this year.
“Designed first and foremost as a watch, the Huawei Watch is unlike any smartwatch available today,” said Zhiqiang Xu, President of Huawei Device USA. “We are committed to meeting U.S. consumers’ demands for premium products and the Huawei Watch is a step in that direction. It embodies Huawei’s technology innovation heritage, pursuit of premium design and integration of useful functionality that we strive to develop in each product.
Timeless Design
The Huawei Watch is inspired by classic, high-end wristwatch design and executed with the most sophisticated materials. In keeping with traditional wristwatch design, the Huawei Watch has a round face and body, standard lugs and a 42mm diameter. Improving on classic design, the physical crown is in the 2 o’clock position on the watch body, making it ergonomic and easy to use on either wrist.
Sophisticated Craftsmanship with Premium Materials
The craftsmanship of the Huawei Watch is evident in the materials chosen and the attention to detail throughout the manufacturing process. Both the scratch resistant, two-layer sapphire crystal and the 316L cold-forged stainless steel body construction are details usually found in premium and luxury watches.
Style and Personalization
Just as a classic wristwatch is a symbol of personal style, the Huawei Watch provides customization options to let individual style and personality come through. With six watch body and band combinations, consumers can choose the watch that’s right for them. The lug design makes it easy to swap standard 18mm bands for a classic, modern or eclectic new look. In addition, the Huawei Watch comes with a variety of watch faces that users can switch for different settings, moods or activities.
Rich Functionality
Running the latest version of Android Wear, the Huawei Watch offers the rich functionality consumers expect in a smartwatch. Features of the Huawei Watch include:
- 300 mAh battery offers up to two days of battery life with regular use, and fast charging offers 80 percent battery life in just 45 minutes, or 75 minutes for a full charge.
- Always-on watch face gives immediate access to the most important information a watch can provide – the time.
- Wi-Fi connectivity for instant notifications when the user’s phone isn’t in Bluetooth range.
- Bluetooth 4.1 LE enables users to pair directly to Bluetooth headsets and speakers to enjoy music on the go with or without a smartphone.
- 6-axis motion sensors automatically identify activity and provide accurate tracking.
- Enhanced heart rate monitor provided by one of the world’s most advanced heart-rate detecting sensor manufacturers delivers measurable health tracking.
- 1.4-inch AMOLED screen offers the highest resolution display of any Android Wear watch at 400 by 400 pixels with 286 pixels per inch.

Android Wear makes its debut on iOS
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push();
There were hints, rumors and leaks that all pointed to Google working to bring Android Wear support to iOS device. Everyone can stop hoping and dreaming as Google has announced today that the app is now available on Apple iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6 and 6 plus so long as they are on iOS 8.2 or newer.
- Get your info at a glance: Check important info like phone calls, messages, and notifications from your favorite apps. Android Wear features always-on displays, so you’ll never have to move your wrist to wake up your watch.
- Follow your fitness: Set fitness goals, and get daily and weekly views of your progress. Your watch automatically tracks walking and running, and even measures your heart rate.
- Save time with smart help: Receive timely tips like when to leave for appointments, current traffic info, and flight status. Just say “Ok Google” to ask questions like “Is it going to rain in London tomorrow?” or create to-dos with “Remind me to pack an umbrella.”
Google also makes mention that the release of the iOS compatible app works with the LG Watch Urbane and will be supported by all future Android Wear devices, including the Huawei Watch they used for the promo image. (below) Don’t fret though, ASUS and Motorola are in the mix as well. Although I have heard that the current line of Android Wear devices, including the Moto 360
, G watch R, Gear Live, ZenWatch
and others are off the table. However, Droid-life does have it working with the Moto 360 that is sporting the latest software and Android Wear v1.3.
This is really a huge thing for Google and for Android Wear watch manufacturers as well as developers. Getting these watches into the hands on billions on the other side of the os spectrum is only going to boost sales and bring more people to the party. Any dual weilders out there happy to see this, or have already tried to get their watch up and running with an iOS device? Let us know so others can know as well.

LG reveals the Watch Urbane Luxe with 23-karat gold and a $1,200 price tag
LG has announced a 23-karat gold version of the Watch Urbane in a fairly limited capacity, called the Watch Urbane Luxe. The watch stands up to some other premium wristwatches and includes an alligator leather strap and a hefty $1,200 price tag.
The watch is being produced in collaboration with REEDS Jewelers, and a supply of 500 watches will be up for pre-order on REEDS’ website. They’ll be available to purchase in retail stores in October.

LG WATCH URBANE LUXE, AN EXQUISITE SMARTWATCH
Limited Edition Device from LG is More Jewelry Than Wearable
SEOUL, Aug. 31, 2015 ― In collaboration with U.S. retail jewelry company REEDS Jewelers, LG Electronics (LG) will introduce a premium limited edition smartwatch, LG Watch Urbane Luxe. This luxurious wearable was designed with a specific wearer in mind and is adorned in 23-karat gold and gorgeous alligator leather strap set in an exclusive piano-gloss lacquer case. Available starting at the end of October, the LG Watch Urbane Luxe will retail for approximately USD 1,200.
The LG Watch Urbane Luxe will sport a deployment clasp for a fitted, elegant look that isn’t bulky. Invented by Louis Cartier in 1910, the use of a deployment clasp makes this timepiece even more exclusive and unique. The alligator band itself is handcrafted at the highest level of craftsmanship, undergoing 50 separate steps in its creation, handled lovingly by 30 experienced leatherworkers. The 23-karat gold used in the LG Watch Urbane Luxe is stronger and harder than the 24-karat gold used in jewelry and heavier than the 18-karat gold used in traditional luxury watches.
“Wearable devices shouldn’t be thought of as an extension of one’s smartphone but an extension of oneself,” said Chris Yie, vice president and head of marketing communications for LG Mobile Communications Company. “This blending of craftsmanship and technology is a natural evolution of the smartwatch, which is becoming more of a lifestyle accessory than a piece of hardware. We think this is a good direction for wearables and we want to encourage this transformation.”
Each of the 500 limited edition watches will be engraved with its own serial number for authenticity and available initially in the USA for pre-order at http://www.REEDS.com later this month or by visiting any REEDS Jewelers location. Visitors to IFA 2015 can see this beautiful work of art for themselves along with other mobile devices from LG in Hall 18 of Messe Berlin from September 4-9.

LG announced truly absurd $1,200 Urbane Luxe smartwatch
Are you sitting at home figuring out the most ridiculous way to spend all of your money? LG is here to help you out.
The South Korean giant has announced an ultra premium version of their beautiful LG Urbane smartwatch. The new version, dubbed the Urbane Luxe is $1,200 and has a 23k gold plated body and a nicer alligator band. And while it may look beautiful, it’s crazy to think that any Android Wear smartwatch could be worth so much, regardless of what it’s made of. But these items are supposed to be high end luxury items and will be sold as such. Pre-orders will start later in September at jeweler Reeds if you feel so inclined to pony up the dough.
LG has obviously seen where Apple is trying to with their ridiculously priced smartwatches and wants to get in on the action for the crazy Android user out there. And hey, since some Android Wear watches are now able to work on select iPhones, you can even use this with your favorite fruity phone. But hurry! There will only be 500 made and just so you know yours is special, each one will be engraved with its serial number so you know it’s legit.
Or you could keep your money. Or spend it on a nicer non-smartwatch. But hey. If you have more money than sense, this watch may be smarter than you.
