Nova Launcher’s “L” update is out of beta, you can get the final version now via Play Store

Nova-Beta-Android-L

Nova Launcher “L” update was in beta for some time now. You had to do a few steps in order to get that version of the app to your device. Well, this update is now available in its final release and you can download it via Google Play Store (link below).

We’re calling it the “L” update because the developer added animations, icons and so much more in order to make it look like Android “L”. Other than these additions to the application we also get some tweaks and improvements to its functionality (squished bugs and such). You can find more information in the Google Play Store or if you follow the link above.

Android “L” developer preview gets ported to HTC One (M7)

htc one android l

Other than the official Android “L” Developer Preview which is available for LG Nexus 5 and Asus Nexus 7 (2013) devices by Google, we’ve seen it ported to the Nexus 4 recently. We knew that this is not the end of it though, of course.

HTC One (M7) unexpectedly gets its own Android “L” Developer Preview port thanks XDA Senior Member ssrij and a team of developers. Nexus 4 port was kind of expected, but not this one. The port is still in alpha though, so keep this in mind if you intend on flashing it. The port was made possible thanks to ramdisk and kernel modifications which ssrij had to do. We say it once again, this is an alpha version of the port and some things will simply not work, at all.

Keeping all this in mind, if you’re interested in it follow this link.

[ROM] The Android L preview has been ported to the HTC One M7, currently in Alpha

Android L preview has been ported to the HTC One M7For many of us with Nexus devices, the Android L preview has only been a pipe dream that we can, for now, only gawk at from a distance. Well, thanks to the boffins at XDA, there is another device to gawk at now, and that device is the HTC One M7. The Android L preview has been ported to the HTC One M7, a photo of which is shown above, and although the ROm is currently in alpha, it’s undoubtedly better than nothing.

This alpha build comes courtesy of XDA Senior Member, ssrij, and his team, achieved the feat by making changes to ramdisk and the kernel; for those in the know (which doesn’t include me), this has had some side-effects on the device’s performance and stability. As it stands, there are outstanding issues with the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, data, sensors, camera and sound, and predictably there is a lot of work to do before it is stable. But the fact they achieved it at all is extremely impressive, and if you’re interested in trying out their work so far, be sure to visit the forum page here for instructions on how to do so.

Are you pining for a chance to try Android L on your device? Which device would you like to see it on next? Let us know in the comments.

Alleged Motorola device shown on video running Android “L”

Motrola Android L paper tape___

Video of an alleged Motorola device running Android “L” leaked, courtesy of TK Tech News. They say the video was sent to them and that they’ll meet their source soon.

The device is wrapped in paper tape and we can’t see much expect for the screen. They claim this is not the Moto X+1 device though, rather some other upcoming Motorola smartphone. It could be a Droid device or maybe some other variation of Moto X+1. At one point in the video the device is placed next to a Nexus 5 (1:45 mark in the 1st video) and we can see it has at least 5″ screen, although it looks even bigger than that. Some sort of a phablet maybe? We actually doubt it considering it doesn’t look that big, but who knows.

We can’t say much at this point. This might as well be fake considering they could just load Android “L” developer preview on a device along with Motorola’s boot animation (2nd video). Hopefully we’ll get to see the device without that paper tape all over it in the near future. What do you think?

Android L’s quick settings might be customizable once the OS gets released

android l quick settings

The beauty of Android si the ability to customize it. Even without rooting the phone you have an incredible level of customization that you can apply on your device, unlike some other platforms which allow you to do very little when ti comes to this *cough* WP and iOS *cough*.

Non-rooted Android devices can’t do much when it comes to customizing built-in quick settings at the moment but that might change once Android “L” is launched. Certain user requested some feedback on this in the official Android previews issue tracker, actually he requested this feature and a member of Android “L” project responded to this. He seemed intrigued by the idea, so intrigued that we might actually see something like this once Android “L” is released or in the future updates to it.

This of course doesn’t have to mean absolutely anything, but it might. I personally would definitely welcome a feature like this, how about you?

Android L is all the rage. We all want the Material Design look and feel today, not this fall. For many, this fall doesn’t mean a thing since we know carriers and OEM’s tend to be much further behind than Google. That doesn’t mean you can’t have bits and pieces of the what Android L looks like, minus the fancy little animations of course. If you happen to own an Xperia device then you are in luck. Candl Design recently released a theme specifically for us to use with the Xperia theme engine on our devices.

‘Floatify’ Brings Android L-like Stacked Notifications to Your Lockscreen for Android 4.3+ Users

floatify-android-l-notifications

Android L has been the talk of the community for the past two weeks, but we still got a little bit of waiting to do before we get the official release. One of the foremost features in Android L is the enhanced notifications. Not only has the notification drop-down drawer been rehashed, but we will now be able to access our notifications on our lockscreen without the need to download a third party app. But for those that don’t quite have the luxury of playing Android L, a new app called Floatify brings that Android L style to any device running Android 4.3 and above.

  • When you receive notifications Floatify will show you a popup window with stacked notifications.
You can interact with the popup, expand a notification to full size, open or cancel the notification, setup a reminder or open the app in xHalo.
  • Even if the phone is locked you can directly open or cancel the notification! Floatify will also wake your phone if you like.
  • The notify on unlock feature will automatically show you all pending notifications as soon as you unlock your phone.
    Simple, fast and efficient!
  • Use the smart blacklist to prevent notification popups when gaming or browsing.
As soon as you leave the app Floatify will show the missed notification.
  • Floatify actions can be added to your homescreen or directly started from other apps.
This way you can cancel all notifications, open the notif. popup or similar with a simple touch.
  • Customize popup window style as you like with smooth animations, backgrounds and colors.

Android L theme available for Xposed devices

Android L Keyboard

So you want to receive the Android L visual goodness of Material design, but don’t want to or can’t install the developer preview. If you’re rooted and running the Xposed framework then the Android L theme package may be for you.

Whilst it is only the visuals of the Android L version, and doesn’t include the functionality, it sure beats installing a buggy ported ROM or early developer preview.

The Android L module contains themed statusbars, calculator, settings app, boot animations, fonts, and ringtones.

Couple this with the Android L app package and you’re pretty close to that Android L experience. Hit up the source link to get started.

Moto X and G will get the Android “L” update, according to customer support at least

Moto X, G and E___

Since Google announced Android “L” at Google I/O everyone has been wondering which phones will get it and which won’t. Some OEMs have released official statements regarding this, while vast majority of them has not. Motorola belongs in the latter category.

About a week ago Motorola Germany released a statement via Facebook that Moto X and G devices will get Android “L” update this fall. However, Motorola released an official statement shortly after letting us know that the mentioned Facebook page is not Motorola’s official page, which left Moto fans somewhat disappointed.

Though we were quite certain Motorola will update both at least Moto X to Android “L” even before this, now we have some sort of information that it will update both of those devices. A user allegedly talked to Motorola customer support (there are screenshots below containing that conversation) and got a confirmation that both Moto X and Moto G devices will get the Android “L” update while there are no information to be found regarding Moto E at this point.

Customer support is of course not the most reliable source of information, but it’s at least something. Do you think these devices will get the update?
