Android 5.0 Lollipop coming for the Verizon Galaxy Note 4

Well hello there Lollipop. Verizon hasn’t always had a very stellar track record when it comes to updating devices to the latest Android OS variant on devices. Often time they are way past fashionably late to the party. However, that isn’t the case with the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. […]

Android 5.0 Lollipop now rolling out to the Verizon Galaxy Note 4

Galaxy Note 4 Verizon-6

If you’re a Galaxy Note 4 owner on Verizon, you’re in for a treat. Big Red is now pushing out Android 5.0 Lollipop, carrying build number N910VVRU1BOAF.

As is the case with most other Samsung devices, Android 5.0 Lollipop will bring a slew of awesome aesthetic enhancements and some under-the-hood changes. For starters, the UI will be updated to fit in with Google’s Material Design guidelines including some brighter colors and more fluid animations. Unfortunately the majority of the visual changes you’ll see won’t be as prominent as on a device running a vanilla build of Android, but they will definitely add a few nice touches to the UI. The Note 4 will also receive the Smart Lock security feature, priority notifications, notification interaction on the lock screen and much more.

Verizon is also bringing Advanced Calling 1.0 to the Note 4, which is essentially VoLTE, or Voice Over LTE. Advanced Calling 1.0 allows for the ability to make HD voice calls, 2-way video calls and 6-way conference calls. You can now toy with all of these changes by heading to the Advanced Calling menu in your phone’s Settings.

There are a few other nice additions that Lollipop will bring, so if you own a Note 4, take a look at the PDF that’s linked below. If you’d like to check for the update manually, head to Settings>About phone>Software updates>Check for updates. Since the update is just beginning to roll out today, it might take a few days for your device to get the OTA.

Galaxy Note 4 getting Lollipop in India, Brazil, UAE and more

samsung galaxy note 4 first impressions (11 of 20)

Samsung has been slow at updating the Galaxy Note 4 to Lollipop, only having released the update in a small number of markets, starting in February. Now it looks like the Korean tech giant is ready to speed up the process, with Note 4 users in India, Brazil, UAE, and the Baltic countries reporting the arrival of Lollipop.

SamMobile reports that, for now, Lollipop is hitting two Galaxy Note 4 models in particular, SM-N910C and the SM-N910G. Given that these models are available in multiple countries, it’s likely that the OTA will arrive soon to other regions as well.

So far, the Note 4 Lollipop update has begun in the Baltics, Brazil, Bulgaria, Caucasus countries, Croatia, Hungary, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Trinidad and Tobago, and the United Arab Emirates.

The update is about 1GB in size. As always, note that unlocked devices may get the update ahead of carrier-branded models, which are subject to extra certification steps. To check manually for the Lollipop update, go to Settings > About phone > Software updates.

Samsung’s implementation of Lollipop brings the new lockscreen notifications, new notification style, new recent activities, improved battery life and performance, as well as a number of smaller visual changes.

Any update notification on your phone? Let us know.

T-Mobile LG G3 owners can now update to Lollipop through the LG mobile support tool

LG G3 Vs HTC One M8-83

If you own the LG G3 on T-Mobile’s network, your Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update is waiting for you as long as you’re willing to jump through a few hoops first. While T-Mobile’s software update page still reads that there is no update available for the G3, the update can be installed on your device by using the LG mobile support tool.

To download the update manually, you’ll first need to visit LG’s mobile support tool website, then click the link that reads Software Update (LG Mobile Support Tool). Once you download the new software, the tool may tell you that your software is already up to date. If so, select the options button, then choose upgrade recovery. This will install Android 5.0.1 to your G3. And don’t worry, the update process won’t erase anything from your device, though it may be a good idea to back up your information just in case. If you want to find out the best way to back up your data, our own Jonathan Feist went through a few methods in his Android Customization series.

Now that the update is available directly through LG, we can’t imagine it will be too much longer until the OTA starts rolling out to devices. With that said, if your T-Mobile LG G3 gets an OTA anytime soon, be sure to let us know!

Verizon LG G2 gets Android 5.0 Lollipop, ahead of the G3

LG-g2-1

While LG G3 owners on Verizon’s network are still rocking KitKat, owners of its predecessor are in for a pretty sweet treat starting today. That’s right, Android 5.0 Lollipop is now rolling out to Big Red’s LG G2.

The new software is dubbed version VS98039A, and with it comes a number of improvements such as an improved notification panel, Lollipop style navigation buttons, searchable settings, and more. Even the aesthetics have been revamped a bit with this update, but it’s not Lollipop’s Material Design changes that we’re seeing. Instead, the LG G2 is being upgraded to a new flatter, minimalist design that is in line with the custom UI found on the LG G3.

For full update notes, you’ll want to head over to Verizon’s website. Keep in mind that the update is just starting to roll out, so it may be hours, days or even weeks before it reaches your device. Anyone receive the update yet? If so, what do you think so far?

Sony confirms Android Lollipop for the Xperia C3 and T2 Ultra

Sony Xperia T2 Ultra-40

A post on the official Sony Mobile blog has confirmed that Android 5.0 Lollipop will be heading to the Xperia C3 and T2 Ultra, following the Lollipop roll out for the Xperia Z3 and Z2 range earlier this month. Sony also stated that a wider global rollout of Lollipop for its Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet would commence next week.

Sony has not given a release date or listed any regional availability for the Xperia C3 and T2 Ultra Lollipop updates, so we will have to keep an eye out for further news.

While Android 5.0 is a welcome update for these handsets, Sony also released Android 5.1 Lollipop binaries for a range of handsets earlier in the month. Although this doesn’t confirm a 5.1 release, it will allow for custom ROMs based on the latest Android OS. The Xperia Z series made up the bulk of the 5.1 list, but the Xperia E3, M2, T2 Ultra and T3 handsets were also mentioned.

If you fancy a look at what Sony’s latest software update has in store for compatible devices, check out the promotional video below.

One M7 getting Lollipop in India and other Asian countries

htc one vs sony xperia z on design back in hand aa

HTC is now pushing OTA updates to bring Android 5.0 Lollipop to One M7 users in India and other Asian countries.

Following the release of the Lollipop OTA for the One M7 in Europe and the US in February, HTC is now bringing the same update to India, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Other countries have not been confirmed, but there’s a solid chance the update will be coming soon to other markets in Southeast Asia as well.

The update brings several Lollipop design elements to HTC Sense, including the new notification style, lockscreen notifications, the revamped quick settings, and the recent activities interface. The OTA changelog also mentions the addition of a search function within settings.

The software update bears the 7.21.707.105 version number and weighs in at roughly 775MB. To check for the update manually, visit Settings>About Phone>Software Update.

This may be the last major update that the two-year One M7 receives. HTC’s Mo Versi announced that only the Google Play Edition of the M7 would see Android 5.1, though the HTC representative backtracked to an extent the following day.
