Lollipop now rolling out to the T-Mobile LG G2

According to T-Mobile’s support website, Android 5.0.2 Lollipop is beginning to roll out to the LG G2 today. The update, which is 617MB in size, will bring your device’s software version up to D80130b.
Among many other improvements, Lollipop brings a slew of new design and under the hood changes including a new notification panel, revamped Settings menu, Lollipop-style navigation buttons and much, much more. All of these aesthetic enhancements are based off of Google’s new Material Design guidelines. Some additional changes you might notice after the update include the new Smart Lock feature, Priority Mode notifications and actionable lock screen notifications.
T-Mobile’s update page explains that Lollipop will roll out from today until May 22nd, so if you don’t get the update just yet, you may have to wait a few days. If you’d like to check for the update manually, you can do so by heading to System settings>General>About phone>Software information>Check now. We know it’s not easy to be patient when a new software version is rolling out, but sit tight! And be sure to let us know in the comments when you receive your update.
Sprint rolling out Android 5.0 to Galaxy Note 3 and Galaxy Note Edge
The last few weeks have been pretty big for carriers here in the US. Seems every time I turn around Android 5.0 Lollipop updates are heading to one device or another. It is a nice thing to see when compared to previous updates where we could only HOPE that an update would even be considered. […]

Sprint Galaxy Note Edge and Note 3 now seeing Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout
It seems like every other day we are bringing you news of a Samsung device getting an update to Lollipop. Today Sprint is bringing us two more, as the Galaxy Note 3 and Note Edge are both now receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop.
The official changelog for Sprint’s Note 3 update only mentions one thing, “Android 5.0”. In addition to Lollipop, the Note Edge is also getting factory reset protection and Wi-Fi calling. In other words, we can pretty much expect these updates to be about the same as we’ve seen from other Samsung devices. That means Material Design elements will be less noticeable here than they would be on a stock Android device due to TouchWiz, but you can expect brighter colors, an updated multitasking interface, a new lock screen, and the priority system from Lollipop.

The update is hitting devices starting today, and comes in at just under 1GB, meaning you’ll probably want to download using Wi-Fi unless you have an unlimited data plan through the Now Network. It’s also worth noting that this will be a staged rollout, as you’d expect, and so don’t be surprised if it takes hours, days, or even longer before it reaches your device.
AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop Update
Yesterday AT&T started rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop updates to the Samsung Galaxy S4. Needless to say, that didn’t go over well with Samsung Galaxy S5 owners. I am pleased to inform you that the update wasn’t too far off though as AT&T has posted the details on the update to Lollipop for Galaxy S5 […]

Lollipop is rolling out to the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S5 today

The AT&T Galaxy S4 just received its Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update yesterday, leaving S5 owners on the network wondering when they’d get the update. It turns out, according to the AT&T customer support Twitter account, the Galaxy S5 should be receiving Lollipop sometime today.
@JeRrYFaR Hi Dave. The update for the Samsung S5 will be released on 4/8/2015. Thank you for your patience. Please DM any questions. ^DonW.

Just like other Samsung devices, the update to Lollipop will bring a ton of new UI and under the hood changes. Most notably, the user interface will get a nice refresh with Google’s Material Design guidelines, although the changes won’t be as noticeable as they would be on a device running vanilla Android. You’ll also get a few other new features including Smart Lock, Priority Mode notifications, and actionable lock screen notifications.
Unlike the S4’s update yesterday, we’re not exactly sure when the update for the S5 will begin rolling out. You will get a notification on your device when the update is ready. If you’d like to check for it manually, head to Settings>About device>Software update. If you don’t receive the OTA today, you may need to wait a day or two before it comes to your device.
Any S5 owners on AT&T receive the update yet? Let us know if you do!

KitKat beats out Jelly Bean for the first time, as Lollipop gathers steam – April data

Google released the Android distribution numbers for April 2015, and, for the first time, KitKat surpassed Jelly Bean versions as the most popular version of Android.
To give developers a better understanding of the Android ecosystem, Google releases monthly estimates of the relative number of devices running each version of Android. This includes devices running Android 2.2 or higher that have checked in Google’s Play Store servers over the previous week.
Data for April shows two interesting developments. The first is KitKat’s rise to absolute dominance, with Android 4.4 now running on 41.4%, more than the combined share of Android 4.1, 4.2, and 4.2, which is 40.7%. KitKat (API level 19) has had the largest share of any single API level for a while now, but until April, Jelly Bean (API level 16-18) held the lead when counted together.
The second noteworthy development is the new entry of Android 5.1 Lollipop (API level 22). The new version was officially introduced on March 9, and it managed to get on the radar with a 0.4% share in less than a month. That’s compared to Android 5.0, which needed a couple of months to register (versions with less than 0.1% share are not included in this stat).
Lollipop is now at a combined 5.4% (compared to 3.3% last month), and with updates reaching more devices, as well as a couple of real heavy hitters in the pipeline, its share will jump even more next month.
Android 5.0.1 Lollipop now rolling out to the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4

Although there have been two new iterations in the Galaxy S lineup since its launch, the Galaxy S4 is still a great device. For those who are on AT&T’s network and still own this device, you should be getting a nice update sometime in the near future. AT&T has just begun pushing out Android 5.0.1 Lollipop to the Samsung Galaxy S4. The update, which is 947MB in size, carries build number LRX22C.1337UCUGOC3.
Multiple other Samsung devices have already gotten the Lollipop update including the Galaxy S5, Galaxy Note 3 and 4, and some variants of the Galaxy Note Edge. The most notable changes you’ll see with Lollipop are some improvements in the UI with Google’s new Material Design guidelines, Priority Mode notifications, Smart Lock security features and much more.
According to the AT&T update page, this is what you’ll get with the new update:
- Songs, photos, apps, and even recent searches from one Android device can be immediately enjoyed across all of your Android devices.
- New User Interface look and feel, more fluid motions
- Priority mode to only allow certain notifications to get through
- Battery saving features and remaining time left to charge or deplete indicators
- Smart Lock to secure phone or tablet by pairing it with a trusted device like a wearable or car
- Most frequently used settings available with just two swipes down from the top screen
- Removal of Code Scanner, Browser Bar and Softcard apps
Since the update is so large in size, AT&T requires that you download it over Wi-Fi. If you have yet to receive the OTA, you may have to wait a day or two before it comes to your device.
S4 owners, how are you liking the new update?
AT&T is pushing out Android 5.0 to their Samsung Galaxy S4
Patience is a virtue they say. While I can agree with that to some degree, technology and the “instant” gratification it can bring certainly makes our patience run thin when it comes to updates. Those of you that are still holding on to dear life with your Samsung Galaxy S4 with AT&T are in for […]

Lollipop is making its way to the Sony Xperia Z3 Dual, Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra next week

In what seems like a continuous rollout as of late, Sony just announced earlier today that a number of devices should be getting the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop in the near future. Alongside the Lollipop update for the Xperia Z2 and Z2 Tablet, Sony has also announced that the Xperia Z3 Dual, Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra will all be updated sometime next week. Although this timeframe may seem a bit vague, we do know that the T2 Ultra and C3 will both receive their updates shortly thereafter.
In addition to all of the devices listed above, Sony says that the Z series will also receive the update sometime soon, though the company didn’t announce a timeframe. As a refresher the Z series includes the Xperia Z, ZL, ZR and Tablet Z.

Wondering what exactly the Lollipop update will bring to your compatible Sony device? The company has put together a nice video showing off some of the main improvements. Major features include the addition of Priority Mode notifications, actionable lock screen notifications, Smart Lock, and a great implementation of Google’s Material Design.
It’s nice to see Sony taking initiative and updating as many of its devices as it can. Although many Sony devices still have yet to receive the update, it’s great to know that older devices are still getting attention.
