Xiaomi announces $205 Mi 4i with FHD screen, Snapdragon 615 SoC & Android Lollipop

Xiaomi today launched the Mi 4i, the low-cost variant of its flagship phone – the Mi 4 – in India. This $200 packs some really impressive specifications including a 5-inch Full HD (1080 x 1920) display, primary snapper with a 13-megapixel sensor and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. Also on board are 16GB of native storage, Snapdragon 615 chipset, 2GB of RAM and Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box.

Despite its thin frame, the device packs an impressive 3,120 mAh battery. According to Xiaomi, the phone uses a new high-density battery technology to fit that much juice in such a small space. Also, the device comes with a quick-charging feature that is capable of charging the device up to 40 percent in just an hour.

In terms of design, the device features a polycarbonate unibody with a thickness of around 7.8mm. It also has a soft touch coating to avoid fingerprints.  The device also comes with fully laminated OGS Corning Concore display that offers the same level of protection as Gorilla Glass 3. The latest Xiaomi handset is available in black, white, light blue, orange and pink colors.

The Xiaomi Mi 4i will be released on April 30 in India for a price of $205. It will land in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia in May.

For some odd reason it feels like manufacturers and carriers are getting things done when it comes to the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. I seem to remember a time where I wasn’t so busy every week telling you all that an update was coming out for a device somewhere. Not that I am complaining though. It is a good thing for all parties involved. Adding its self to the list of Lollipop sporting devices, is the LG G3 on US Cellular.

LG G3 Lollipop US Cellular

The update users will be looking for is version US99020a and it has already started rolling out. To get your hands on it you will want to look for a notification to pop up at the top of the screen. You can also head to Settings > About Device > About Phone > Update Center> Software Updates. If you go that route, make sure you have well over 505 battery life, a solid Wi-Fi connection and some time to download and install the 1.2GB update file. You also have the option to update the device using your computer if you would rather go that route. LG offers the LG Mobile Support Tool, which is similar to Samsung Kies. It is a simple install of drivers, the software and connecting your device. To go that route you will want to visit the manual update support page for the LG G3.

micromax yu yureka

Following the release of the Android Lollipop-based Cyanogen 12 OTA update for the OnePlus One, the same update is now hitting the Micromax Yureka.

Cyanogen OS 12 brings the new features and design tweaks from stock Android 5.0, with a couple of new Cyanogen-made features on top, including App Themer and the new Boxer-based Email app. More details about the changes in Cyanogen 12 can be found here.

Like with the OnePlus One, Yureka users should be getting their OTA within three days, but the more impatient can opt for the relatively straightforward process or sideloading the updated OTA file, which can be downloaded from here.

Yesterday, Cyanogen announced that it will begin bundling its operating system with a number of Microsoft, starting later this year. It’s not clear if existing devices, like the Micromax Yureka, will get the same treatment.

LG seems to be doing their best to keep their current, and past, devices updated. Especially on AT&T. The Now Network has pushed out the Lollipop update for the LG G3, while not everyone has it yet, it is out there. Today they are beginning the update process for the flagships predecessor, the LG G2. The update officially comes in with Android 5.0.2 Lollipop and weighs in at 725MB’s Making it one of the smaller Lollipop updates I have personally seen so far.

You will get all the awesomeness that is Lollipop like the lock screen notifications, bolder colors and fluid animations. It will also remove the browser bar and Famigo along with the AT&T Code Scanner and Beats Music. Current stock LG G2 owners will need to make sure they have well over 50% battery life, a solid Wi-Fi connection and some time to kill for the file to download and the update to complete. To check for it you will want to head to All Settings > General > About phone > Software update > Update now.

Continuing on the trend of what I think I will call AT&T Lollipop week, we have two more devices getting the sweet treat. Just moments ago I alerted you guys the LG G2 seeing an update to Android 5.0, now I hear that the Galaxy S5 Active and, lower tiered, Galaxy Alpha are both seeing updates now as well. Unlike the smaller G2 update, which was 725MB’s, these updates are 1GB and 1.4Gb respectively. Guess which device gets the larger one?

The update brings in a lot of new UI enhancements for both devices along with a plethora of redesigned Samsung apps that are more inline with Google’s Material Design guidelines. The colors are bolder and sometimes brighter. You will also see the lockscreen notifications and Smart lock. It should be same update that the Galaxy S5 started to receive a week ago.

Like all other updates, they are rolling out in stages. You might be lucky and se it today, or you might not see it until the end of the month. At least you know it is out there legitimately though. Head to Settings > About device > Software Update > Check for Updates. If you see it is ready, then make sure you have well over 50% battery life, a solid Wi-Fi connection and some time to kill for it to download/install.

Just like on most other Samsung devices, the Lollipop update will bring along with it many UI enhancements, but they won’t be very prominent thanks to Samsung’s Touchwiz overlay. Other changes you’ll find in the update include the switch to the Android Runtime (ART), priority mode notification settings, new battery saving features, Smart Lock, more fluid animations and much more.

The updates to both devices are rolling out now, but it may take a few days to make their way to your device. If you’d like to check manually, head to Settings>About device>Software updates>Check for updates. Once the update is downloaded and installed, your Galaxy S5 Active’s software version should now read LRX21T.G870AUCU1BOC5 and your Alpha’s software version will read LRX22G.G850AUCU1BOC6. Be sure to let us know in the comments when you start receiving the update!

Lollipop beginning to roll out to the Verizon Galaxy Note 3

Rise of the Phablet - Galaxy Note 3

Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is next in line to receive the big update to Android 5.0 Lollipop. The update, which is rolling out now, will bring your software version up to LRX21V.N900VVRUEOB6.

So what’s new in the Lollipop update? For starters, a big portion of the user interface will be revamped with Google’s Material Design guidelines. You can expect a redesigned notification shade, Settings menu and a few other tweaks on the UI side. Unfortunately the aesthetic changes won’t be as apparent as you’d see on a device running vanilla Android, but we think you’ll like the changes overall. You’ll also get a bunch of other new features like priority mode notifications, Smart Lock, actionable lock screen notifications and more.

Lollipop is rolling out to the AT&T LG G2 today

lg-g2-front-left copy

Not more than a few hours ago, we told you that T-Mobile’s LG G2 was beginning to see Lollipop. Whether it’s a coincidence or not, AT&T has also started pushing out the Lollipop update to its version of the G2. The update, which will bring your software version up to D80020y, weighs in at 721MB.

Android 5.0.1 Lollipop will bring a number of notable changes, both aesthetic and under the hood. Once you update your device, you’ll notice a cleaned up notification panel, new Settings menu and updated Lollipop-style softkeys to coincide with the other enhancements Google’s Material Design brings to the table. A bevy of performance enhancements are also present in the update, including the switch to the Android Runtime (ART), and new security features like Smart Lock. Among others, you’ll also see a new Priority Notifications mode and actionable lock screen notifications. AT&T also says the following applications will be removed along with the update: Browser Bar, Famigo, AT&T Code Scanner and Beats Music.

This update is just beginning to roll out today, so it might be a few days until you see it come to your phone. If you’d like to check manually, you can do so by heading to System settings>General>About phone>Software information>Check now. Be sure to let us know in the comment section when you get the update!
