As is the case with other OTAs, this update will be rolled out in stages, so it may be a few days before it makes its way to your device. Once you receive your update, be sure to let us know how you like it!
Asus Zenfone 4, 5, and 6 receive Android 5.0 Lollipop

Asus has begun rolling out Android 5.0 Lollipop updates to its budget friendly Zenfone 4, 5, and 6 smartphone ranges, bringing the collection up to date with Asus’ latest version of Android.
The Zenfone 4 (A400CG) is being updated to version 7.3.3, which is available over-the-air or through a direct download. The Zenfone 5 A500CG and A501CG are also in line for the same update, finally bringing these models up to date with the A500KL, which received its Lollipop update back in April.
The Zenfone 6 (A600CG) is a little behind the other models as it is currently without an OTA update, but this should begin rolling out in the next few days. However, a manual download link is already available for those confident enough to install the update themselves. Full instructions can be found on the Asus support page.
The full changelog for the Android 5.0 Lollipop Zenfone updates can be found alongside the manual download links. Along with the Material Design UI redesign and changes to a few apps, Asus has also had to drop some pre-installed apps, such as the Battery widget, Google Text-to-Speech, and Magic Smoke wallpapers, because of Lollipop compatibility issues.
Keep an eye out for that OTA notification in the next few days.
Huawei Mate 2 owners can now register to test Android 5.0 Lollipop update

Huawei is easily one of the best Chinese smartphone makers out there, and with recent products they have done a lot to push both hardware and design forward to levels that compete with more mainstream OEMs. One area of weakness, however, is the software. Not only is Huawei’s EMUI one of the more bloated software experiences out there, Huawei is also less than great when it comes to updating to newer versions of Android — as evidenced by the fact that my Mate 7 is still running on KitKat-based software. The good news for Mate 2 owners is that Lollipop is finally about to arrive.
The good news for Mate 2 owners is that Lollipop is finally about to arrive. As we speak, Huawei is allowing Mate 2 owners to register for the opportunity to test out an upgrade to Lollipop-based software. During the first testing phase only a select number of registrants will be chosen, though they will slowly roll out more invites as they come closer to the Mate 2’s full rollout next month.
It seems a bit ironic that the Mate 2 is now receiving Lollipop ahead of higher-end devices like the Mate 7, but it’s still great news to see Huawei supporting the Mate 2, especially considering it is one of the few Huawei devices officially available in the U.S. market. Mate 2 owners looking to register can do so from Huawei’s website.
Latest Android distribution numbers have been posted, Lollipop now on over 12% of all devices

Even though it’s been less than a month since Google last posted its Android distribution numbers, it looks like we’re already seeing new numbers coming in for June 2015. The biggest change we’re seeing this time around is that Android 5.0 and 5.1 Lollipop have now made their way to 12.4 percent of all Android devices, up from the 9.7 percent marketshare we saw last month. Although it’s not a big 4 percent increase like we saw from April to May, Lollipop is still steadily climbing to the top of the charts.

Android 4.4 KitKat is still the most common build available today, currently running on 39.2 percent of all devices. These numbers are only down a mere .6 percent from last month. Jelly Bean hasn’t seen a massive decline either, coming in at 37.4 percent of all devices, a decline of just 1.8 percent from May. Ice Cream Sandwich is installed on 5.1 percent of devices, down .2 percent from last month. Gingerbread still has a higher install rate than ICS with 5.6 percent, just .1 percent down from last month’s numbers. And yes, Android 2.2 Froyo is still installed on .3 percent of all Android devices.
Since last month, we’ve seen a handful of devices receive the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop including the Motorola Moto G (1st Gen.), the Verizon HTC One M7, the Sprint Galaxy S4, and the AT&T Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5. Are you still stuck on an older version of Android? If so, what device are you using? Let us know in the comment section below!
Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE getting Android 5.0.2 Lollipop OTA
Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 LTE is getting the upgrade to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. It adds yet another device to the small percentage running Lollipop.
Android 5.0 Lollipop brings with it a myriad of awesome changes, mainly with animations, effects, design, and the progressive move towards Material Design. Notifications have been drastically improved, the recent apps menu has been improved, and performance has greatly increased. However, running Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, aside from added features, you may not see a whole lot changes on the design front.
Updates like these do take some time to get to you. So, if you haven’t gotten the notification to download the OTA update, you should see it within a couple of days.
If Samsung keeps this up, maybe we’ll just see Android M on the device this time next year.

Lenovo announces Lenovo Cast streaming device
Google introduced its Chromecast nearly two years ago and since then, we’ve seen a myriad of competitors also launched. Today, at its TechWorld keynote in Beijing, Lenovo has announced the Lenovo Cast, a competitor to Google’s streaming device with a difference as it also supports the DLNA and Miracast standards.
The puck-shaped Lenovo Cast is compatible with just about any Miracast or DLNA device and can be connected to any display that supports HDMI. The Lenovo Cast features a microUSB and a micro HDMI port along with dual-band Wi-Fi support (unlike Google’s Chromecast, which is limited to 2.4GHz Wi-Fi only), support for broadcasting in full HD and a range of 20 metres, including streaming through walls.
The Lenovo Cast comes measures 70mm diameter by 15mm thick and weighs just 50 grams; unlike the Chromecast, which just sticks out of your TV’s HDMI port, you can mount the Lenovo Cast to the back of your TV if you so wish. The Lenovo Cast is compatible with iOS, Android 4.3 and higher and selected Windows 8.1 devices.

The Cast will launch at the beginning of August at a cost of $49, which – although higher than the $35 Chromecast – is cheap enough to still be an impulse-buy item that offers value for money.
T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z1 now getting Android 5.0.2
T-Mobile customers rocking a Sony Xperia Z1 have now begun to receive the update to Android 5.0.2 Lollipop. This comes not long after Sony brought the update to the Xperia Z2 and Z3.
The update brings with it a whole host of new features, the new Material Design layout being one of them. It also brings with it lock screen notifications, the 64-bit ART compiler designed to open apps faster, Project Volta for battery performance tweaks, a new Recent Apps page, and much more.
Once you download and install the update, your software version should be 14.5.B.0.236. Most manufactures and carriers recommend that your device have at least 50% battery life and hooked up to Wi-Fi before downloading this update.
If you haven’t gotten the update yet, firmware upgrades like these are usually sent out first in small stages to make sure there are no bugs that render the device useless. If successful, the update is sent out to a larger crowd of people, and so on. It could take anywhere from a couple days to two weeks to get the new update. If you want to update your Xperia Z1 manually, you can get the FTF firmware file along with install instructions here.

Android 5.0 arrives for the Sony Xperia ZL, Z Ultra, ZR LTE and Tablet Z

Sony’s substantial Android 5.0 Lollipop roll-out continues, with a host of older handsets all being treated to an update this week. Sony Xperia Z (LTE model), Xperia ZR (LTE model), Xperia ZL and Xperia Tablet Z owners should all keep an eye out for an OTA notification in the coming days, as updates have already begun rolling out.
The download, labelled 10.6.A.0.454 and weighing in at around 700MB, will update the list of Xperia devices to Android 5.0.2. It has been spotted as an over-the-air update in countries as far and wide as Hong Kong to the US, even on some carrier branded handsets, suggesting that this is a truly global rollout for these devices.
The update matches features which have already rolled out to Sony’s Xperia Z3, Z2 and other smartphones, including Priority Mode notifications, actionable lock screen notifications, Smart Lock, and the slightly redesigned user interface.
Given the age of some of these handsets, Sony should be commended to bringing Lollipop to so many devices in its extensive Xperia range. Don’t forget, Android 5.1.1 has also recently been spotted running on Sony’s Xperia Z3 smartphone too, so even more updates are likely already in the works.
Android 5.0 Lollipop begins rolling out for the Moto G (2013)
Motorola’s Moto G (2013) has begun receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop. This comes only a couple days after the Moto E (2014) received the bump to Android 5.1.
Android 5.0 brings a suite of new features with it, such as better multi-tasking, sharpened battery statistics, improved notifications, and much more. If you haven’t been prompted to install the update yet, head over to your app tray, tap the Settings icon, select ‘About Phone’ > System Updates, and tap “Yes, I’m in.”
If your smartphone says your system is up to date, you may have not received the update yet–usually you can check what version of Android your on in ‘About Phone’. Firmware upgrades are pushed out in stages, often its sent out to the first 1% of device users to ensure the software update isn’t going to debilitate your smartphone. I would be thankful for that, considering broken smartphones tend to cause mass hysteria in all of us. If you haven’t gotten it yet, you’ll see the update within the next few days, sometimes up to a couple weeks.
Android 5.0 is an excellent improvement to the operating system. Unfortunately, there’s no word on when the Moto G (2013) will be getting the jump to Android 5.1. Don’t even get us started on when you’ll see an update to Android M.
Have you gotten Lollipop on your Moto G? Let us know in the comments.

Sprint’s HTC One E8 now getting Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA
Sprint’s HTC One E8, a plastic version of its One M8, is finally receiving the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop. While the announcement was made yesterday, the OTA update just began rolling out today.
The update brings with it all sorts of goodies, such as factory reset protection. Once you have the update downloaded and installed, your software version should be 2.32.651.7.
Keep in mind that updates do roll out in stages, so it could be up to a couple of weeks before everyone can enjoy the sweetness of Lollipop. If you’re eager to get your hands on the update, both Sprint and HTC have posted a changelog. Only, HTC’s changelog features a 1.9GB RUU file paired with detailed instructions on how to flash the update manually.
It’s surprising that the One E8 took this long to get the update, considering the One M8 received it back in February. The One M8 will be getting the jump to Android 5.1 in August, and if its anything like this this update, the One E8 should get it a few months afterwards.
Such is the life of waiting on telecommunication providers.
